It rained on us. Indoors. This was last fall and it had been raining a bit. We had to change booths 3 times as there were so many leaks in the roof that were dripping on the dining area. Best part is after we moved, they continued to seat other people in the wet booths until our waiter yapped at the manager and host to pull their heads out. Food was fine but this place used to be one of the better places on 82nd, now it is average at best. We haven't been back and don't plan to. read more

First, I want to say that I never right reviews particularly poor reviews. My purpose is for Stanford's to learn from this review. I ordered a garden burger and specifically asked the waitress whether the lettuce was green. She indicate it was. When my lunch arrived the garden burger had iceberg lettuce. I thought that the waitress may not have understood the difference. When I mentioned it she immediately came back with green Romain lettuce that was chopped and likely was prepared for a salad. That was fine. The waitress put in the effort and I appreciated that. The fries were over salted and the entire meal came cold or rather tepid. My family and I were the only ones there in the booths. Even the waitress remarked how slow it was which my family and I appreciated. But when Food comes cold given it's not busy that is surprising. They should Automatically have fresh green lettuce, The tomato was small and light in color, not a nicely sliced tomato which also is surprising as this is the tomato season. The fries were minimal and way too salty. years ago pre-Covid I loved stanfords. The Food and presentation of the food was superior. I am walking out as I write this review because after 90 minutes of waiting for our meal, then being served over cooked, dry, cold sirloin (clearly had been sitting awhile), raw prime rib (ordered medium rare), cold mashed potatoes and the worst margarita I've ever had (was there any tequila in there?) all of which we had to send back, we were told it would be another 20 minutes to get our food - seriously? Then the manager told us he could comp us with a gift card to come back? Even when I said I was traveling from out of state (California), I was met with "oh, we have a location in Walnut Creek" - guess what, not everyone who lives in California lives close to Walnut Creek! The only bright spot? Our waitress, Tina - Kudos, cuz you rocked!! She provided awesome service and should be working somewhere her customer focus would be appreciated! Visiting Portland Oregon in the area of Clackamas and wanted to eat somewhere that had a variety, and we found it in Stanford's restaurant. Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Staff is excellent and you won't be disappointed! The bar made an excellent Manhattan with Woodford Reserve, and it was superb. The food is excellent and had Fish and chips and it was delicious. We come here about every two weeks. We sit in the bar for their happy hour. Great happy hour deals btw. We get a beer each (the selection is respectable for sure) and we split the crab and artichoke dip and the southwest chopped salad... and both are amazing!!!! Come to find out, Stanford's is a chain, however, it presents itself as being slightly more upscale than other chains. I came for lunch and found the staff to be super friendly and had a good time. Both lunch specials were fine, I had the soup and salad wich was okay, but not all that memorable. The service, despite being professional and friendly, couldn't make up for the unremarkable food. The other thing is that the place is too dark. I don't know if it's the extensive use of dark wood and/or the lighting, but it doesn't make for a great atmosphere. That said, I have only been once. Came here with my husband, an old friend of mine and three of his friends. I am so glad we made reservations, it was hopping on a Friday night. It's in a fairly unassuming strip mall that I've passed every day for months, on my way to work, and I never even realized it was there until one of the folks I dined with mentioned it. Drinks - Raspberry crush is amazing. Mixed well and poured just right so that it's still drinkable, while packing a hell of a punch. Table mates had a mango mojito and some other raspberry concoction that were equally well received. Food - Lobster tempura sushi roll was on point flavor wise. A table mate's ahi tuna was perfectly seared. Both of us nearly licked our plates clean, so - both are definite YESes! My entree, the prime rib, was sadly underwhelming. I'm used to this cut of meat melting in your mouth and for a $30 entree, it failed to do so. My husband's rib eye was delicious. Everything came out cooked to order, just as we asked. Service - pretty great. We never felt rushed, which for how busy they were is something that's truly notable. The old friend of mine is living up in Seattle. We don't get to see each other often, once every few months. One of his other friends lives here in the area and they know each other from high school (we're all late 30s, early 40s, so it's been a while) and don't get to see each other often, either - so it was nice to be able to visit with each other without feeling like we were being shoved through our meal to clear the table. This Stanfords hit the spot on a shopping day to the Promenade. We were starved, we needed a pre-shopping pop and some decent food. We were seated quick and left to peruse the 2 ft long menu, the kind where you have to move your head/shoulder/body to turn it over. Broiled salmon with herby tartar sauce, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus. It was 5lbs of food, and it was good. Topped with my mango? mojito. This drink was more like a dessert as it was mostly syrup. What was good about this place is that it filled me up, tasted fine, and provided perfect chat surroundings. All Stanfords seem to have tasty seafood, great portions, and a sweet happy hour. Kinda chainy, but in a reliable way. And sometimes you just need a reliable chain to make the meal on a lazy day a wee bit easier. read more

Server Joshua ROCKS beyond reason! I waited tables on and off, but mostly on, from 1986 to 2001 putting myself through lots of schooling. When I trained waitstaff I always said you needed two skills to succeed... give a sh-- and consolidate your moves. Joshua cares about his guests dining experience... period. One small example: I always drink water with no ice and with limes when I eat out. 99% of the time the server brings me water with ice and or lemon, usually both. Joshua not only heard lime, he heard limes and repeated it to make sure he heard me right. Sounds small, but greatness is in the details. Stanford's used to offer high quality service and food. If they still do, it's not at the Clackamas location. We were seated quickly, then promptly ignored for at least 10 minutes while servers chit-chatted with other customers, or strolled by us with no contact. Once flagging down someone to acknowledge us, our drink order was taken. My coffee came in a half full cup, and I asked why- being told that's how it works if you order with cream. Okay. We ordered salmon, and prime rib. A couple that arrived 10 minutes after us was enjoying their meal while we waited even longer. After flagging down the manager, our meals finally arrived- which I had to send back to the kitchen. Baked potato was so cold, it wouldn't melt butter. What came back was a plate straight out of a cheap diner. Small portions, no presentation, and very overpriced. Prime rib was the thinnest cut I've ever seen in 20 years. Salmon was the size of a hot dog. Manager attempted to appease us with an offer of a free dessert, which we declined. She did adjust our tab, but the overall treatment left us with a sour taste. I don't like to give one star reviews. But I've been going out to some very nice places and some dives. Let's look at this restaurant and you can choose which it is When you first walk in it smells heavily of fish since the kitchen is right by where you wait to be seated. (perhaps next to the cooler also) The waitress tries to detour you by saying "there's a twenty minute wait to sit" (which got quite a few people after me and my dinning companion to leave. They then tell you how nice the bar is and how you should get a drink. ($8 for a well whiskey up to $15 for a cheep wine) When we were seated (exactly 20 minutes later) we passed 3 empty tables on the way back. The lighting was that that if your eyes hadn't adjusted you could fall. Thankfully they have gaudy signs attached to the end of the table stating "step down" in large enough letters I could read it at the end of the eisle. We waited about 10 minutes before seeing a menu then were rushed to order. Stupidly I gave into the peer pressure and ordered a appetizer chicken strips and fries thinking it would be a fancy restaurant it will be done nicely. We had finished the appetizer before she came back wanting our dinner order (we had been there about 40 minutes total) Once dinner came she went on and on about how this item was so delicious so my companion tried it. Food: Chiken strips were basically any old piece of chicken thrown in a batter twisted in strange shapes (I'm sure not on purpose) I've had better from a frozen food case. Fries (in basket ) were a oily mess stuck together in a giant glob. Mac n cheese: I thought it tasted a bit off. There was a lot of crunch on top I thought might be parmisian that was too close to the oven. After I got home and looked at it. It's chunks of garlic and something else. The garlic taste was so overwhelming I couldn't eat nearly half of it. If you reheat it even 30 seconds you will end up with a pool of grease on your plate. And the garlic is even stronger today. Appearance: I've never known children (6-9 age) to be brought to a place like this let alone running up and down the rows. I believe the point of the low lighting was so you felt like you were alone with your date. The loud people apparently celebrating a birthday next to us (they tried singing happy birthday and it fizzled out as they realized no one in the restaurant wanted to hear them let alone join in ) Summary: for $70 you can go to a much classier place without kids running up the eisles and actual editable food. I love Stanford's, every other one except the Clackamas location. We spread out our visits pretty well between this and Lloyd. But the service here (in our experience) is always slow. Last night was pretty much the last straw. We showed up at 7PM, and went to the bar since the wait was 15 mins. They are busy. No big deal. We ordered our drinks then got our food order in. We asked for an appetizer which never came, and our food came out AN HOUR LATER! No joke. One hour. To make matters worse, a couple that walked in after us to the bar...left with leftovers as we got our food. D'oh! Not typical Stanford service. read more

Food poisoning response. I have been a long time visitor to Stanford's. I noticed they have changed the menu recently and it has more limited selections. Last night we visited. I ordered panko breaded Dijon chicken and my husband had mac and cheese with chicken. I found the entree to be so lightly flavored as to almost be bland; and the mac and cheese was mostly MAC with not a lot of cheese. Our server was courteous and prompt, although so prompt that she brought and took away the dessert menu, before we had a chance to look at it. We did not share food and didn't eat anything else in common that day. We both got violently ill that night. I called in the morning and the manager didn't take my name or number, just said she would "make some notes and find out what happened." How are they ever going to follow up with me if they didn't take my contact information? I got the sense that she didn't believe me (because no one else had called) but still I think it would have been nice to get a follow up call. read more

My family ate here for brunch on Mother's day. I had the "Knife and Fork Crab and Artichoke Sandwich". They should have named it the open-faced tomato, mayo, and cheese sandwich. It was almost all mayo, possibly a solid 1/8", and the only reason I ate it was because I had skipped breakfast and was STARVED. Hands down the worst sandwich I have had in years. They have a great happy hour! However, if you are in the mood for an actual meal, then this may not be the place for you. In an attempt to be healthy, I ordered a chinese chicken salad, but was disappointed when the salad was a lot of lettuce (of the wilted kind), boiled chicken and way too much salad dressing. Brother in law used to work here, but that's not why I'm rating 5 stars. We came in with our baby last night after going through the options that would have things soft enough for him to eat. We were seated promptly, and after being seated Mindy, our amazing server came. We talked about getting a side of veggies for baby, she said they might be too hard and suggested mashed potatoes instead. After she brought them, we asked for a spoon to eat them with, she went and specifically found the smallest spoon she could, so it would fit in his little mouth. When my husband went to change the baby, she told him "if you want a changing table, use the unisex bathroom." On top of all that she was extremely attentive and gave wonderful recommendations. And they weren't busy. He was very rude to us and for that we will not come back. We almost went back inside because we didn't get his name. But he was awful. I wasn't sure what to expect given the past ratings and reviews but I was not disappointed. After a long work day there is nothing better than a good steak dinner and a good glass of wine. Fortunately for me on Wednesdays it is 1/2 price bottle night, another plus to a long day. So for me, the food was good, the wine was good, the service was good and friendly, a little on the slow side, otherwise it would have been 5 stars. The good - the service. However, the food was disappointing. Perhaps Happy Hour is better but I came here for dinner. The onion rings were huge, but I thought it was breaded a bit too much. It's worth ordering just to see how huge they are though! Fried calamari were not fried enough so were soft and clumped together. SO DISAPPOINTED! BLAGH........ I heard great things about the food from co workers and when I walked in to pick up my take out, I thought FINALLY I am going to enjoy a great meal. Friendly young woman greeted me, upscale interior and customers that actually dress up a bit inside eating at the tables with white table cloths!! YUMMMM cant wait to get it back to my room, put on a good old movie and feast! As you will see from my pics the food was just typical "pub style food" with a higher price tag :-( Calamari was SMALL, greasy and lots of crumbly crumbs not attached to the food. I could not imagine sharing this appetizer with any one if I ate in..... bigger pieces please. Crab cakes...OMG so gross, salty and smooshy inside...it was fried mush with corn (threw it in the garbage). Lastly my club sandwich was ok only, freshish chicken breast, It tasted boiled not grilled, small amount of bacon and why??? do they need to slather the bread in oil then grill that but not the chicken??? We stopped in for a Happy Hour treat. The staff was extremely friendly, bar is very high end. We tried the chili cheese waffle fries and the fish tacos. They were both excellent. The chili was really tasty, and we're kind of picky about chili. The salsa on the fish tacos had a pleasing subtle kick to them. We will definitely be back to try more items! read more

Stanford's food used to be very good. It used to be a moderately classy place to eat. Service is always going to vary no matter where you choose to eat. The drinks used to be great too, but, again, that probably depends on who's tending the bar. Stanford's overall has gone downhill. When they started messing with their menu too often, it seems like they tried to streamline it and it didn't work. Then they changed it back--sorta--but too little, too late. The music in the bar is far too loud for enjoyable dining and conversation. Also, in my humble opinion, a place like Stanford's should be playing some nice Jazz not Top 40 Pop since the bulk of their clientele are obviously over 30. Service can be slow at all their locations even when they aren't particularly busy. The prices have gone UP!! We paid $22 for WAY over-salted fish, bland rice and 4 pathetic asparagus stalks, $13 for (very good) mac-n-cheese, $3.50 for mediocre iced tea and $6.50 for a very strong mixed drink. When I can make salmon better at home than in a restaurant like this then it's time to stop eating there. :( This particular location has been a disappointment the last few times we've tried it and I don't think we'll be going back. We already gave up on the Lloyd Center location (pitiful), and the one at Riverplace closed it's doors (too bad because they had a great view). And, no, we aren't driving out to Lake Oswego just to eat at Stanford's. Meh, indeed I've experienced better--from the old Stanford's. read more

Can't rate the food at this location. Was told I couldn't make reservations in the afternoon for a party of 6 as tables set aside for reservations were booked to 8:00. Said we could come in for open seating however. Drove from Beaverton and arrived at 4:45 on a Friday night. Upon checking was told we couldn't get a table until 8:00!! Have always enjoyed Stanfords food and service. We had take out from them for the 1st time tonight. It was all excellent. Ordered filets, rare. Once home we heated them in a hot oven until medium rare....tender and flavorful. Will definitely do this again when wanting a good steak during these trying times. read more

Just ate one of the best meals I've had in a while! I had the sirloin with mushrooms sub the mash for sweet potato fries...oh the sweet potato fries... The steak was cooked perfectly and the mushrooms were good. Asparagus was also cooked well. Now to the best part...the sweet sweet sweet potatoes. Happy Hour Haunt - we watched another movie in the Clackamas area and decided to mix it up. My BIL is on a diet and said Gustav's would be too tempting. Agreed. So we ended up at Stanford's. I was a little put off by some of their fusion foods (blackberry meatballs?), and am still mystified to this day why anyone thinks "tots" are a good happy hour/bar food. French fries = yes. Tots remind me too much of school lunches. They only belong in my dad's famous tater tot casserole or formed into a triangle piping hot from Mickey Ds. And that's a hashbrown. Tot ranting aside - their food was alright. Nothing that would make me crave a return visit anytime soon. I did enjoy my caesar salad but the chicken pieces were rather sparse. The pasta bowl wasn't as delicious as I remembered from a previous visit. The jolly rancher alcoholic drink is what sailed me effortlessly through this meal. Without the booze? Probably not as good. And the company. I enjoyed my drink and the company and that's about it. The bar seemed really sparse for a Friday night Happy Hour and I'm wondering if they've been hit pretty hard by all the other fancy chain restaurants that opened up across the street. *shrug* Capitalism at it's finest. :P I'm enjoying the concept of mixing up the happy hours out in this neck of the woods, but the execution is not as good. Stanfords is another place that is good for happy hour. They have an assortment of food to try from including chicken tenders, salads, pasta and ribs. I would recommend the chicken BBQ quesadilla and the house salad. I tried their homemade tator tots, but found them to be a weird texture. It is like they friend mash potatoes with some chives and bacon in it. All I wanted was some tots and these were not tots! They have good prices on the beer and the food so it is better to go after 10. Other than their happy hour, their regular menu is overpriced. Stanfords is a nice place to go to and has good service in the lounge. read more

I don't like Stanford's, however, my friend asked me to meet her there for happy hour when she was home for the weekend so I obliged. I understand why she likes to come to this location, there are lots of parking spaces and, typically, there's not a wait for seats at the bar. You don't have buy a drink to get happy hour prices on the food. This time around, I thought the server was very attentive and all our needs were met. She got our orders right, refilled our drinks without being ask, and easy to find when needed. I got the mac n' cheese and a Caesar side. Normally, when I ask for red pepper flakes...they tell me that they don't have any. Of course, I always ask and she provided! The service this time around changed my impression of this establishment. Granted, I am still not a big fan of chain restaurants. My last experience was awful when we attempted to sit outside. All the other times, it has been consistent, decent food, affordable happy hour prices and times. I'll just opt to sit inside from now on, the view of the parking lot isn't that great even if it's a nice day out. read more
