I am not a huge fan of this type of food, but came in recently with some family who come here just for the herb roasted chicken. For that experience, it's a 4 star review, but just for that. Ambiance is nice - it's your classic, quiet-ish American steakhouse type of vibe. We were seated in a booth which gave extra privacy, making it easier to hear each other. We got wine since the cocktail menu looked pretty basic and boring- they do 9 ounce pours here which is pretty nice too. For dinner, three of us had the herb roasted chicken which was perfectly tender with a crispy skin. The potatoes were garlicky and delicious. One person got the club sandwich with fries - no complaints there either. Service was attentive - we got checked on more than at most restaurants. Again, the food isn't exciting but they did a solid job with the chicken and sometimes you have older folks who want that quieter experience with good service, (over bare bones service with amazing food). I think it's a little pricey for the boring but well executed dishes we had, but to each their own. read more

Excellent lunch at Stanford's in Tanasbourne. We had to come for the iconic Kruse Burger during the lunch period. Katy, the bartender and server was simply a joy to meet and engage with. The food was terrific. We had to start off with before lunch adult beverages. My daughter had a greyhound and I had the Clone 7 chardonnay. Both were excellent. And of course what meal would not be complete at Stanford's if we didn't have the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer. The chips were fresh and the flatbread accompanying the spinach dip was especially good. And yes, the dip was as good as I could remember. What a treat. Then the main event came...two Kruse Burgers cooked perfectly to temperature. Hats off to the cooks for preparing these burgers. I've always loved this place. It's where I went with my mom and sisters all the time before it closed in Walnut Creek ca. I am so psyched they are here in the PNW. I've been for my faves several times already and experience impeccable service and a consistent, delicious SW chicken chop salad. Not to mention the onion rings. Tonight we ordered takeout for the first time and unfortunately, there was no chicken on our two salads, for which we had paid. I was already home and frustrated but the AGM Marci, drove all the way to our house (a solid 20 min to pdx from the Hillsboro location) and brought the food we had paid for. The ambiance here is lovely. Great for an intimate setting. Quite pricey so be prepared! We've had the pork chops and prime rib. We've always had a problem with those meals. Either too fatty, undercooked, burnt, so we stopped ordering those items (they're VERY expensive anyway). However, the prime rib sandwich is delicious. So is the Cajun Prawn linguini. Delish! "You just never know..." On Sept 28th, 2022 at noon, it was a normal hump day lunch with coworkers. Upon reaching the main entrance, a young kid with a beige polo shirt opened up the door for me. In which, I thought he was a patron just leaving. I said "thank you" and thought nothing of it. Then a welcoming hostess gave us a booth and we were ready to grub! As we were eating, we noticed a commotion going on in the corner with a large party of about 12 people. One of the guys stood up and couldn't breath. He started choking. Stunned, the party he was with didn't know what to do. Someone called for help, and in comes that kid with the beige shirt that opened the door for me. Then realizing, oh that kid works here. Well he performed the heimlich maneuver and saved the guy's life! Thank goodness! Give that kid a raise! Like a superhero in disguise, "you just never know..." Now onto my 4-star review and what makes this place an instant classic. Lets start with the food and the apps I've tried: ~ Iconic Cheese Bread - Fat slices of focaccia bread with melted cheese. Yes, I'd say its "iconic"! Too good, but deadly. ~ Brussel Sprouts - These were served glazed and warm on a plate. I had these delivered once, and they still weren't too bad. ~ Onion Rings - Huge crispy rings definitely worth getting! ~ Fried Calamari or Creamed Spinach & Artichoke Dip - Tasty shareable appetizer, but both were nothing special to me. Main Dishes: ~ 9oz Filet and Lobster Tail (added) - Their filet was perfectly grilled, loved it! We had it paired with a red cab from Spellbound wine which a great match. Made me imagine how good their $100 tomahawk would be lol. Someday! ~ Cajun Prawn Linguine - Another good combo of flavors in this little pasta dish. They prawns and sausage were plenty! I also enjoyed this as leftovers too. ~ Pepper Bacon Mac'n'Cheese with andouille sausage (added) - Eh, was OK. Not worth a main dish to me. ~ Double Cut Pork Chop - I liked it, but didn't love it. I felt something was missing. ~ Knife & Fork Crab 'n Artichoke Sandwich - Another lunchtime disappointment. I've order this twice and it just never satisfies me. ~ Stanford's Burger - Primo delicious! At the restaurant or take-out, their burger is juicy good and holds up well. They certainly do meats right, as this is just a well rounded burger. In short, Stanford's once had a well-known name back in the day. Nowadays, not so much. This location does an excellent job of staying classic and modern. Although its kinda hard to find them after simply exiting the freeway. Its sorta hidden imo. Prices will always be expensive here, but its expected for a steakhouse. I don't feel they are considered a steakhouse, but they do well with beef and meaty dishes. Only they fall short on some items. But with "delivery", most of their dished are still good reheated. This is where I teeter-totter between 3 or 4 stars. But here's the reason for the instant jump to 5-stars: Excellent service from Jessica (or Jess) who kept us entertained one dinner evening. To Karina who's always smiling and helpful during lunch hours. And to that superhero kid that opened the door for me and ended up saving a life. I think that just about says it all! read more

Hostess was rude and dismissive. Sat my son and I in a section that appeared to be closed. Dimly lit and in the back when it was bright outside and the restaurant was close to empty. She did give me a look of almost disgust when we walked up to the hostess stand so there's that. I was trying not to assume it was because of my race as being from Hawaii, it's not a common experience. But anyway, the waitress was pleasant. My son and I both ordered the prime rib. It was just ok, if a little cold. Oh, and my salad was brought to me way after my entree was served without any apologies as if this is how it's supposed to work. For the price, the service was lacking and the food wasn't worth it. I wouldn't go back. There were way better options with gracious service that made sense. read more

We went during the December holidays for my husbands birthday and had invited two other couples for a total of six at our table. The staff from making the reservations, to asking to put the walk in birthday cake into their refrigerator to helping us make my husbands birthday memorable with great food and service all worked out well. The bill before the tip was $700, which was pretty crazy, but everyone loved their steaks, fish and salads. Etc. when you think about it, $125 or so a person isnt bad. We had two bottles of wine and drinks as well. So I think it was a great value overall. We even got to share the cake with the staff who loved my friends talented pastry skills. It was slow service, but we weren't in a hurry and we all walked away happy. I was only disappointed in one item. The Mac n cheese. I saw other people ordering it and it looked incredible. So I ordered it and when it came out it was cold and congealed. Ick. But it wasn't worth griping about because everything else was good, Including my lamb which I loved. read more

This was worth the drive to Hillsboro. A friend and I were looking to treat ourselves after a long day of Christmas shopping & Standfords came to mind. I had never been to this location, but it was darling! We were sat in the bar area in a large booth next to a window. It was quiet and cozy. Our waiter was friendly and although our food took a little extra time to cook, he communicated that with us. When they were served, both steaks were cooked perfectly and they came with two sides. The menu was pretty generous! At the end, I had about half of my raspberry lemon drop left and (with covid rules allowing it, obviously) the waiter kindly let me take it home. I thought I'd have to ditch it at the restaurant, but instead I was able to enjoy it at home while I wrapped presents. read more

This is our first time eating here. We got seated pretty quickly. Our server didn't come around for like 15-20 mins. We had no water or even a "I'll be right with you". Waiter didn't even introduce herself when she did come. Just asks if we ready to order. We ordered apps which were bread and crab cakes. They were really good. I got the Cobb salad which was huge. It was ok. We got our appetizer probably 20 mins after order. No problem. The problem was the service. We had to wait 45 mins for our main. Two parties we sat after got their food before we got ours. The steak and lamb were ok. The Mac and cheese not good at all. Onion ring ok. We won't be back nor would recommend anyone to go there. Also we asked for our check and another waiter walked up to take our card with us not even being presented our bill. So crazy. I would say they should train their waiter better in hospitality. read more

I don't understand why the rating for this restaurant is so low. The food is great, the staff is great, the happy hour is fantastic. Stuff mushrooms - so good! Ribs - fall off the bone and so tasty. Burger - great! Chicken quesadilla - holy hell, a definite staple for every order. Caesar salad, tuna, chocolate mousse dessert - all great. We're still working through the list of stuff - have only been to happy hour a couple of times now but we are absolute regulars now. Going to stop in for a full dinner soon. We had Katie once and the next time we were in, she remembered our orders. Haven't had this kind of service since living in Ohio and Florida - it's just a great, friendly vibe. As long time fans of Stanford's we were happy last night to be near the Tanasbourne location . Our anticipation was spoiled, however, when the first staff contact we had was brusk and rude rather than welcoming. "Did you check in at the front desk, " said the scowling shaved head bar server with glasses. "We can't serve you until you check in." I immediately went around the corner to the front desk and was escorted back to my still waiting wife. Fortunately, the meal was rescued by the amazing service we received from Katie, and the chicken tenders were even better than we remembered. This would have been a five-star review if not for the initial server's unwelcoming greeting--hope the Stanford's GM will read this and realize that he has a real liability in this employee who definitely doesn't belong in the hospitality business ( I watched him closely throughout our visit and didn't see a single smile in his interactions with guests). read more

Stanfords....the pluses are amaaaazing waitstaff! Our server Nicole was friendly, attentive, bantered with us and we kept laughing because she reminded us of the actress Mayim Bialik who played "Blossom" the drinks are worth the price, not watered down and great flavor. The Tequila Sunshine and Lavender Cosmos are bomb! The minuses-the prices and food- I ordered Mediterranean chicken. Amazing flavor and delicious, but for about $30 it was barely a whole chicken breast...another member of our party paid $135 for the tomahawk ribeye-not worth the price at all, flavor was so so but cheaper to buy and cook your own. Stanford's was a staple for me and my wife for years. I've got to say though, the last few times, it's kind of went downhill though. We probably won't be back. Drinks are still pretty good, and the food was alright. It's always a little dark in the restaurant, which is fine because I don't know if I wanna eat with bright lights on me all the time. Ha! The biggest problem for me is, I'm now spending $27 a plate for mediocre food at best. I don't mind spending money on good food, but it has to be good food. This is meh. We just took my son there for dinner after a baseball win, and he was pretty excited to get something good. I ordered the fish and chips, my wife got the prime rib dip, and he ordered the Cajun prawn linguine. I got three small pieces of Cod and probably 15 fries. The food was ok. My wife's was good, but again, meh with 15 fries (see pictures). No picture of my sons food, because they gave his to someone else who took a couple bites off of it and they brought him a chicken dish by mistake. They then came back and took the chicken dish from our table and gave it to the lady who ordered it. He eventually got his food, put half of it in a box and it's sitting in our fridge. He said the prawns had absolutely zero flavor. Not a Cajun dish by any means. Maybe they used all the seasoning on the first dish that was given to the other lady. Our waitress seemed nice, didn't say much to us at all. Was very on top of refills which was nice. Save your money, or go somewhere where the food is actually worth it. STILL OPEN! If you've heard Standford's closed in Portland - that's the "other one", this one in Hillsboro is still here, and still serving up the stuff we love. They are still doing salmon chowder on Fridays, still have the ample appetizers that are as fun as they are filling, and happy hour is a must. I've even ordered delivery, and they package in such a way that salads don't get soggy, they keep the bread fresh and entrees warm. read more
