I'm a veteran and used VA Community Care to cover the cost at Sango Family Dentistry along with my wife's dental insurance. I had a molar causing some pain and they decided they wanted to cut the tooth off and replace it with a crown. OK, easy enough. The problem is the tooth they cut had a nice size hole in it at the gum line. Well, they modeled the crown after the bad tooth and the hole remained in the crown. I went to 4 more appointments complaining about the still existing hole in that tooth and refused any other work be done until it was fixed. I was told numerous times by hygienists and the dentist himself there was no hole in that crown. After the 4th appointment I was expelled from Sango Family Dentistry by the very rude billing girl everyone sees when their session is over. Can't remember her name as this was 2 years ago and I tend not to remember names of people who have zero respect for others. She did however, have the audacity to try to get me to come in for cleanings and other sorts using my wife's dental insurance after expelling my off the VA Community Care program. Making pretty obvious it was all about the money! Fast forward to now. I started seeing a different dentist and what do ya know? There's a hole in the crown Sango Family Dentistry put in my mouth. The entire tooth had to be surgically removed because it went rotten under the crown that Sango Family Dentistry said had no hole in it. I wasn't even having problems with that tooth. The new dentist just saw it after the xray and said it needed to be fixed. I cannot and will not ever recommend this place to anyone and if you're a Veteran using Community Care, don't give them the money. They absolutely do not care about anything other than the money. Horrible practice that has cost me a lot. I will from this point forward talk nothing but negative about Sango Family Dentistry. Just because they have a 5 star rating doesn't mean they are actually 5 stars.......

I was told that they take my insurance but are not in network and would cost ONLY about 5% more than others. I was told what the bill would be, got the work done, they tried to upcharge even more, but I turned it down because I can't afford more. I paid the total bill and left. A few weeks later I received a bill saying my insurance didn't cover it. I called the Hillcrest office and was told that it was only an estimate. What?!!! I would not have had anything done that cost so much. I don't have the money. I ended up paying, but it happened again and again. I have paid over $8,000 in extra costs. I stopped going months ago and I still am getting unpaid insurance bills for a year ago. Not only was I over charged, but they apparently did not even send in some of the bills to the insurance. Plus, the insurance keeps turning down the ones they received saying that it was UNNECESSARY work.

I loved this dental practice years ago but things have changed. Now if they cancel on you they schedule you 45+ days out for a reschedule even if the cancel with less than six hours notice. They take no suggestions to leave spots open for last minute things like this so people aren't waiting even longer for their dental care. As someone with dental anxiety suddenly canceling and requiring another2-4 month wait is ridiculous. Especially when they insist I stay up to date to make cleanings easier - you're the problem. Most people have to plan their appointments with their work schedule and can't just come in on a whim. And they expect you to cater to them. This has become an unreliable practice that often has phone and scheduling issues. Look else if you want quality care and customer service.
