When this company was owned by the Gelber family it was top tier. They did the install from stem to stern in our home including all new ductwork. When there was a problem you could easily get someone on the phone to assist. Ever since they sold the company I'd like to say it's gone downhill, but it's more like off a cliff. Having issues with our AC unit. Called two weeks ago to make an appointment. Appointment was set for tomorrow 4/28 - received a call TODAY, that they are not taking appointments for "new customers". When I called to question this, I was placed on hold and then told that I would receive a call "later this week to explain". Forget it. We've used them to put in central air in 2021 and a new boiler in 2024. Spending thousands of dollars. But we are a "new customer" and they wait till the day before to cancel? Problem with AC condenser. Was told because of the new refrigerant the entire second floor system had to be replaced. Cost $20,000. Within a few months the new air handler blew a leak causing over $100,000 in water damage. Following year the first floor condenser needed to be replaced. This time instead of taking the word of the Gelber salesman, a call to the manufacturer of the air handler that revealed a switch that would allow the new refrigerant without changing the air handler. In other words, the Gelber salesman either did not know the working of the air handler, even though, the company came highly recommended by the air handler manufacturer, or he lied. read more

To echo everyone else, this company has gone downhill, don't bother to call them. I did get their tech Versalius to come and diagnose the issue with our mini ductless system which he did and he was great. Told us we need a new control board. Supposedly they received it but they will not schedule it to be installed I suppose because we no longer have a maintenance contract. I've called multiple times and always get a different excuse as to why they can't schedule this. I'm done calling --- going with a different company. read more

Having problems with the heat. Called up Stan to help with the issue since we paid for the Member Plus service contract. (What a fucking scam) Only thing we've paid for is a lot of grief and a cold house! Took a week for the first "service" person to arrive and said they had to order a part and would be in touch that same day to tell us when they were coming back. Well! I made a maitenance appointment a few months ago to have my ductless units serviced. I should note I used them to purchace and install my units only a few years ago. They called me today, two days before my appointment, to cancel. Their reason? They're only servicing customers who belong to their long-term maintenance plans. Our technician, Versalius Trotman, came to our house and spent a lot of time checking our system as it wasn't working and needed to be opened for the year. He ordered a part and came back as soon as it was available. He wound up spending over 4 hours fixing the system. He was neat, polite, informative and considerate. He had to do overtime to finish the job and never once complained or commented on it. Versalius was wonderful, respectful of our home, and great to work with. He explained everything he was doing in terms we understood. While I hope we don't need him again anytime soon, I would gladly welcome him back to help us out. read more

What a disappointment. We had been using Gelber since 1991. Today we were scheduled for maintenance between 8 and 12 and at 9 we were told no technician was assigned. Gelber sold up to some big company and now all you can speak to is a call center. No one calls back and on top of that they are overpriced. I WOULD GIVE LESS STARS IF POSSIBLE. I have been a long term customer of Stan Gelber. They did a whole house central AC unit and a couple of split units for me. I have also recommended them to several other people for whole house installations. When Stan ran the company it was fantastic. The company has now been bought out by SERVICE EXPERTS. They are a TERRIBLE company. I have scheduled 8 appointments to fix my AC that they installed and is still under warranty and they either can't fix it or simply don't show up. John that was running the UNIONDALE office is a pathological liar and as of 4/28/26 he is fired and the UNIONDALE office has closed. All work is supposedly being handled by FLANDERS SERVICE EXPERTS in HAMPTON BAYS. This location is just as terrible. All customer service is handled by the TEXAS office. CHRIS ANDREWS is the head pathological liar at that location. No matter what he tells you DO NOT believe it. He tells you he will give you his cell # but it's worthless because he will not answer the phone or text back. It seems if the whole SERVICE experts business model is a scam, they are trying to sell maintenance contracts that they have no intention of honoring. Used this company to install a Brand New HVAC system, went with them for their 10 year parts and labor warranty on the specific system I wanted. Called them the other day and was REFUSED yearly AC Startup Service. They said I didn't have a "Maintenance Plan" I pay yearly for the startup and my warranty is consistant upon having a yearly service by them. I have 3 years left on my warranty. Called 3 times and each time was told by the operator they would contact me back. Haven't had one call back. They left me high and dry with essentially a useless Parts and labor warranty. Why pay for a Maintenance plan for $500 a year when they should only charge me a startup fee and the rest is warrantied. Ever since they sold to "Setvice Experts" this company has become a failure at service and has no compassion. Check all the other negative feedbacks, seems to go along with my experience. All I can say is It's not the same Stan Geller & Sons. They sold their business and the new owners are very secretive about it. I had been a customer of Stan Geller for many, many years so when I called them recently and had someone come over, something did not seem the same. The technician was terrible and was not able to do a very simple task. He said the service mgr would have to send someone at an additional charge. After waiting several weeks with many phone calls for the service mgr and never getting a call back from him, I finally learned the business had been sold and although they kept the name they did not keep the quality and reliability. My 88 year old father is a long time customer of Gelber. He came home to find no heat- his house was 34 degrees and freezing. He has a contract with Gelber ("Advantage") so we called around 2 pm. They told us they could have someone to his house the next day after 1! What is the point of having a contract/emergency service? Their website says access 24/7 - yes someone will take your message but they are not sending anyone. His pipes could have frozen it was 27 degrees outside. In addition the person on the phone said we should look at the pilot light- when I asked where that was or where I could find it she didn't know. We called twice before and were "disconnected" We found another company who came at night and we paid out of pocket for the repair. They should say you can have a service contract but we don't provide any emergency service- even with an 88 year old man in a home that is freezing. read more

Wow - I had an appointment for today between 4 and 8 to fix my AC. Stan Gelber and Sons installed it 3 years ago. I received a text message confirming my appointment and yesterday I received another text reminding me of my appointment. At 1 PM I received a call that said sorry we can not come today - we can come on JULY 28th - if is June 26th. I informed them that they confirmed the appointment and even sent a reminder text yesterday. They said sorry the can not come for over a month. I told them that there is a sick elderly person living here and that I have no AC and the temperature has been insanely hot. They said sorry they can not come until JULY 28th. I asked to speak to the supervisor and I was told - SORRY the supervisors are not accepting any calls. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY REASON!!! THEY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED!!!! Have used this company for years and have a service contract with them for a heating system they installed. Recently had the yearly service performed on the unit. Had to book this service twice since they missed the first appointment. Right after the service and technician left I noticed the unit was leaking water. I called right away to get this fixed and the earliest they could come was 5 days later. WOW!!! Waited the 5 days and new Tech was over an hour late. He looks briefly and said this was not the companies fault and I would be charged. Really, everything is ok before, then an "expert" shows up and causes a leak and its my fault. This repairman then tells me he does not have part anyway and the office will call to schedule an appointment. 3 days later no call back and I have to empty a bucket twice a day. I found out this "local" company is owned be a Texas company and the calls goes through them. Will not renew with this company. One of the worst consumer experiences I have endured. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. As a "preferred contract customer" when my heat stopped working from a power outage, I expected a prompt response, especially during sub freezing temperatures. Their original response was that they could come in 5 days. After multiple calls and pleas, they found a tech to show up the same day. That was great, but the tech couldn't get the heat back on, and said I needed new circuit boards, even though there were no blown fuses in the system. They weren't in stock and needed to be ordered. I asked how long that would take and he said he put the order in, but did not know. After spending a cold night in the house without heat, I called the next morning to find out the status of the order. No one got back to me. Out of desperation, I went online and found that turning the breakers off for 20 minutes and then resetting them was necessary to get the system running. I tried that, and the heat came on as if nothing was wrong. And nothing was wrong, just a misdiagnosis. I didn't need new circuit boards which would have cost a lot of money, just a reset, which I did myself. I called the next day, after still not hearing back, left a message for a call back and still did not hear back. 3 days later I received an invoice for the service call. When I called to dispute it, I still got no callback. I called back 2 more times with no return calls. Their 100% satisfaction guarantee is words only, as I am totally dissatisfied and my bill hasn't been cancelled. read more

When calling for an appointment (for either sales or service) I have been on hold for 20 minutes. I waited at home all afternoon and they failed to show up for an appointment without any communication or explanation. Shame on me, this happened to me Twice! Rescheduling their missed appointment is difficult, as you will wait 2-3 months for another appointment after being on hold for 15-20 minutes. Wow! Talk about flushing a business down the toilet! If I could give them zero stars I would! Used Stan Gelber & Sons for over twenty years. I didn't know they were sold and had them replace my central air conditioning system 2 years ago. When they first installed it they put air handler in the attic with the condensation flow pipes backwards. Instead of taking the condensation away from the unit, it flowed back to the unit overflowing the overflow pan. I came back from a weekend away to find my ceiling and wood floors ruined. They paid for the damage and then sent other technicians to fix what the first techs did. Apparently, they did not fix the problem as the water all of the sudden started to fill the pan again and run out of the emergency pipes. I now have to fix the pipes, the overflow pan and the wet switch, which was to shut off the system as soon as water goes into the pan, which no longer works (probably due to the first incident). THIS IS A TWO-YEAR-OLD SYSTEM and now I have a $1000 repair bill to fix their shoddy workmanship. Moreover, water flowed into the main part of the unit and the insulation got wet. Now I have to worry about potential mold. Do not use them!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I paid for a contract and had a spring tune up. Recently the system was not as cool as the set temperature. I tried calling Gelber for service. Just received a loop of "please stay on the line." I left my number numerous times as well as multiple voice mails. Received no response. After a week I finally gave up and got another company to service the system. The fellow who fixed the problem said that when Gelber came to do the spring tune up, he never attached the attic filter properly and warm air from the attic was feeding into the ac system. Gelber is not the company it was. Do not sign up for a service contract. Run, don't walk to another company that will be responsive, stand behind their work and honor their contract. read more
