Three weeks ago I was blessed with the opportunity to take a trip to Seattle Washington. I got a chance to hit the trifecta. I saw one of my college teammates so I hadn't seen it 45 years, I got a chance to meet with Costco and to do some business and I was blessed to eat at a wonderful barbecue place consecutively while visiting the place for three days. Finally tried out this BBQ place, we visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was a little busy, but we were able to grab a booth. The bar is interesting (I guess the owners are KC Chiefs fans!), but clean and a relaxed atmosphere. Parking nearby was easy. The staff were quick and friendly. There are plenty options on the menu, but we ordered the Who's Your Daddy so that we could try and share alot of options, the $70 seemed reasonable given what we received and the quality of the food. We were really happy with the meal. The brisket was delicious, and we opted for the jalapeno cheddar sausage which was so good. The baked beans were probably my favorite side. The following is based on my DoorDash order and not an experience at the restaurant. The food here was decent. I had the 3rd Down which consisted of pulled pork and smoked chicken wings. The portions were plentiful for one and really two. The meats are not seasoned or sauced. I was provided two small sauce cups which was nowhere near enough. I would rate both meats as average for bbq. The coleslaw was mostly shredded cabbage with some dressing. Not a creamy dressing like many places but more vinegar based. Again, it was average. The potato salad tasted like everyone else's. I'd guess it was a pre-made and not their own recipe. In all the dinner was fine. Little things like more sauce would have made it better. read more

Upcharge for mac & cheese and you're north of $40. I got the brisket & ribs. Comes with dry bread (untoasted). Brisket was very fatty. Not "wet" where the fat is rendered and marbled into the meat, just globs of fat where the cut wasnt careful. Ribs were dry and unseasoned. No rub I could taste. No carmelized sauce. Stuck on the bone. On top of all this, they are stingy with BBQ sauce. Comes with 2 small containers of sauce; ask for more and they give you 1 more. Amounts to a few tablespoons. When the meat isn't cut, cooked, smoked or rubbed right the least they could do is have some bottles of sauce at the ready. First and last time here. Onto the next place. read more

Dissapointing and bland. I was expecting much more simply because local friends told me this place had respectable BBQ. Perhaps I'm just biased because I have eaten great BBQ in Texas or that I work hard to try to perfect my own smoked BBQ at home, but this was just a big pile of sad meat. Brisket was fatty, greasy, and no smoke flavor whatsoever, no visible smoke ring. It felt like any hint of smoke flavor was added after the meat was boiled or put through a Instapot until it fell apart. The ribs were the worst part: gray, dried out and tasteless. Pulled pork was average at best and had no flavor. Sausage seemed the same with no smoke flavor and very hard skin exterior. Burnt ends were overly sweet and chewy. Everything seemed like it had been overcooked with smoke flavor added later (liquid smoke style). All the sides tasted store bought and the even the corn bread tasted like it had been microwave reheated rather than out of an oven. At the end of the day, if you're going to serve BBQ and charge these prices of over $20 for 1/2 lb, please don't call yourself a BBQ place if you don't really smoke anything but pass off overcooked meat with no flavor. The brisket pieces were thick and I can use the fork to cut them into pieces. I did not taste smoke flavor on the meat. I just added a lot of bbq sauce. The coleslaw was okay. Cream corn, the corn seems old but the cream was good. The serving side could be little more. They have most of NFL games which was nice. Price is typical BBQ place $18-$20 for sandwiches. Went to Stan's recently with my family, and met the new owner Andrea. We've always enjoyed Stan's, but over the last few years things occasionally seemed a little inconsistent. With the new owner, the meal was perfect and it was wonderful chatting with the enthusiastic staff. She said all the original menu is the same, but has also added cornbread - that's one we've been hoping for. We have REALLY tried to like this place. Inconsistant is the word. So today after a long absence I went in to get a take out order. Asked for two Brisket sandwiches to go. Nothing else. I about gagged when the counter person told me the price......41.79! No drinks, just two sandwiches! I did gag a bit but paid and left. Came here with my best friend Andrew as its his favorite bbq restaurant and place to eat in Issaquah after growing up nearby in Sammamish. When we arrived we were informed a comedy show was about to start which was the perfect addition to our plans. I ordered a half pound of the burnt ends with potato salad, a jalapeno and cheddar beef link, and a glass of woodinville rye and my friend had a pulled pork sandwich and Mac & Jack's African amber. Food was all tasty and high quality. Iv been missing good bbq after living in the bay area. For the comedy show both openers and the headliner were all funny. Paul Goodwin joked about his hill billy conservative family growing up in Mississippi and using a giant dildo instead of a gun for home defense, Ev Jenson talked about being trans and transitioning and being a stoner, and Kermet Apio was partway into a good set when a drunk old lady heckler derailed everything talking about how she saw him preform over 30 years ago. After not knowing what she was even on about he pivoted to throwbacks of some of his 90s jokes he does remember and jokes about Hawaiians loving spam which this lady kept asking about. He managed to finish the night strong and the whole place cheered when this lady finally left near the end. Downtown issaquah is always one of my favorite places to walk around and this is a great spot to eat and catch a show in a really small intimate venue. I love to eat great food! One of my favorite foods to eat is bar-b-que. I've been all over the US eating various regional styles from Carolina to Texas to Kansas City and place in between. Stan's is a great place in an area that you don't expect to find Texas style. Normally you think of a chain restaurants in the suburbs. Fortunately, they are just a few minutes away from home. Since this was my first visit, I chose the mixed platter that had brisket, ribs and pulled pork. It had some vegetable side dish, which I ignored since I was there for the meat. The brisket was excellent! Juicy and full of beefy goodness. The ribs were just as good! Lots of smokey flavor (not over smoked) and a nice dry rub. The pulled pork was good, but a little dry. The bun on the side was not memorable, but when I'm eating bar-b-que I don't really pay attention to the side dishes. Service was excellent! Quick greeting and seating. Attentive server, with quick delivery of the food and a consistent check on us throughout our meal. Please note, on busy nights the parking can be difficult. There are 6 restaurants all together on Front Street, so you may have to circle the area to find a parking spot. Behind the library is a good place for parking, but again when it's the dinner hour on a Friday or Saturday, you may have to circle around. Between my wife and I, we had Baby back ribs, burnt ends (brisket and weekend special), smoked wings, baked beans, potato salad, cream corn, and each plate came with buns. It all was so good! They serve Kansas City BBQ and I kid you not, the burnt ends flavor and sauce triggered a memorable experience I had eating BBQ in Kansas City years ago. My favorite item was the Baby Back ribs. They were plenty full and tasted even better the next day when I ate the left overs. The chicken wings were perfectly smoked and packed a great flavor. Cream corn sauce could have been a little thicker for my feel, but still my second favorite flavor item on the plate after the ribs. Potato salad mixed with some bbq sauce made it out of this world. My husband literally said the white bread was the best thing we ate. I would rate the food 1.5-2/10. The pulled pork was easily the worst (tasted like a soggy paper towel), the ribs were grey.. the brisket was just.. I don't even know. The "best" was the jalapeño link. Our one majorly positive note: the gentleman who was our server was wonderful. He was kind, polite, and enthusiastic. It seems the service here is their highlight. I would not suggest coming here. I'm always in search of good barbeque and Stans is one of the best ones I've found in the area. The location has parking behind the building. The location itself is clean and has a nice casual, sport-centric decor. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful during our visit. Everyone was wearing masks and following good pandemic protocols. Masks and proof of vaccination were required at the time of this review. I ordered the Linebacker (pulled pork and brisket, 1/2lb ea) with corn and beans for my sides. Both meats were tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked with good flavor from the smoke. I ordered the "sweet" sauce which was heavy on the cumin but had a good flavor overall. The corn had a significant "bite" to it and was much hotter than we were expecting. I thought the beans had a really good flavor. My wife ordered the Ribs and Wings combo (I forget the name). Again, the meats were well cooked though I got a hint of a bitter "dirty smoke" back-taste to the wings. She also had the potato salad which we thought was "ok". One thing I DO have to mention is that the prices are on the high side. Each of those platters is in the mid $30 range. I know that the cost of meat has been hugely inflated due to the pandemic and good BBQ takes a lot of time and work so it isn't a big surprise. Just be prepared to avoid sticker-shock. I have been here a few times. I am a huge sports fan so this is a cool atmosphere. Many Kansas City Chiefs memorabilia and decor for their Kansas City BBQ. I have been here like 5 times and I always get seated quickly and I am always surprised there isn't many other patrons there. Not saying it doesn't get busy sometimes but I never am there when it's busy. I LOVE BBQ food! I have ordered their platter a few times which is good amount of food for 2 people. I have ate here when the food has been good and a few times when I didn't like it. 50/50 split. Let's now talk about the service. The owner of the place is always nice and pleasant to us. Good bbq joint! We ordered the hog platter a couple of times (feeds 6-8) and it's a good value for the amount of food you get. The meat definitely has a smokey flavor, but isn't super consistent in taste or dryness. For example, we had really enjoyed their chicken before but this time the brisket was cooked perfectly and the chicken was on the dry side. The pulled pork and ribs were solid this time as well. Having lived in Texas for over a decade, I have a decent appreciation of good BBQ. When I walked in and seen the Shiner Bock tap handle I honestly thought this place might be legit. However there was a huge let down when I tried the brisket. It was tender, but that is as close to BBQ as it could get. Not a single hint of smoke or bark on the outer edge.
