I can't believe I have never written a review for this place. We were so excited when we first learned that a Paseo was opening up near us. We don't go super often since the menu is pretty much the same, but we are always so pleased with the food when we do go. You might think their claims about having the best sandwich is exaggeration. I've had a lot of good sandwiches, and this one is up there. I try to limit my meat intake, so I only ate a bite of my son's. It was a perfect bite. Their other sandwiches are extremely good too. Just try the shrimp. My one problem with them is that they are quite decadent, so I don't dare eat them too often. If I could, I would get one every time. Aside from the sandwiches, the platters are really good. My husband absolutely loves their rojo sauce. My son has also tried the jambalaya and just loves it. Great place. read more

If you looked up service with a smile, you would see her face. We did tell her we were splitting the sandwich and it arrived cut in half. The food arrived with two plate plates (the gal heard us- great service) We ordered a side of Yucca fries, which came with an aïoli and a Caribbean roast sandwich. The fries were crispy on the outside, dusted with a signature seasoning and tender on the inside. Yucca is denser and more chewy than potato but quite tasty. The aïoli served with the fries was yummy. The real star, however is the Caribbean roast sandwich. They did not skimp on sandwich filling. The pork was tender to the point of melting in your mouth and so flavorful. I love making me some grilled onions and there were grilled ones along with some jalapeños. I don't know if it was paid, but I did find a sandwich hard to eat because it was a little messy, but let me tell you I do not stop me from finishing. Friend was raving about the scallop sandwich which is seasonal so had to try it. It's not cheap eats -it was about $20 but it was good!! Pretty good sized scallops surprisingly and the packed a lot of flavor. It was a bit messy to eat with all the sauces and everything but it delicious. Recommend! We also got the tostones (deep fried plantains). We liked them a lot-they weren't overly greasy and the slices were big and thick. It has a bit of a kick with the seasoning. That and the scallop sandwich made for a filling a yummy lunch. And they have a little treasure chest fill with toys for little ones to select a toy. Nice touch. The Famous Caribbean Roast sandwich is soo good. The pulled pork was flavorful and there was a good amount of it in the sandwich. The sandwich overall was fantastic. The only thing is that eating it is very messy as the juices of the meat flows everywhere. We ate in the restaurant and when the sandwich came out, the bread was already starting to get soggy. So if you take the sandwich to-go, I'm assuming it's gonna get super soggy by the time you get home to eat it. Also ordered the fries, which were seasoned with Cajun seasoning I believe. They are nice and crispy and the chipotle aioli sauce that came with it was good. The inside is clean with a lot of tables. There is also plenty of parking outside. It was my first time in Issaquah location. Will definitely come by again if i am ever in Issaquah or go to the Seattle location. read more

We found someone eating a sandwich from paseo and was pleased to find out they have one in the Issaquah area. So we came by to order a few sandwiches. I got their version of the "Cubano". I forget all the other sandwiches that were ordered. But I do know they were all delicious. The shop is small but the service is great. Went on a Sunday evening before going to Home Depot and I've got to say, it's very convenient they have a location over here. I've been to the Fremont location and remember when the lines were longgggg. I got the Caribbean plato with the pulled pork roast. It's a very casual spot and it seemed liked mostly take out orders. We were one of two parties dining in. My husband got the classic roast sandwich. It was messy as usual. The same taste is renowned as before but the pork was still very tender and juicy. I'm only rating this for the bread pudding. I ordered it to go and waited a very long time for it. I kept asking the young lady how much longer for the Bread pudding, she said it's almost done. So the sandwich had great flavors and lots of meat and the interior was cute, though small. I need to be petty and complain about the sandwich-eating experience though. There is a whole heap of toppings on skinny slices of baguette wrapped in regular/uncoated paper. The sandwich is hot and the meat and onions are wet, so the paper dissolved onto the sandwich and I was picking pieces of paper out the whole time I ate. Fully half of the toppings slid out and I dripped pork and pork juice down the entire front of me and on the floor. Twice. While here for a Yelp experience, I had the chance to finally try the very famous Carribean Roast Pork Sandwich. WOW. It's very tasty. We ate in and shared a side of Tostones (double fried plantains) which were sliced thinner than I've had in Caribbean restaurants in the past but were very tasty and well seasoned with cilantro and chipotle aioli. The World Famous Caribbean Roast Pork sandwich is worth the hype and worth the drive to try it. The slow roasted pork is super tender and the caramelized onions are a perfect compliment. The added crunch from Romaine lettuce finishes a satisfying bite. Keep the sandwich inside the waxed covering as it gets messy and can fall apart if removed. This Issaquah location is a strip mall variety and is clean an new inside. The seating capacity says 14 people, which isn't a lot. I would like this location better if they add on a Tiki bar or more seating space somehow. It seems to be a great lunch and dinner spot for a thriving area. I originally tried the original Paseo location years ago back before the ownership change and remember having one of the best sandwiches I had ever eaten. Since this Paseo location was conveniently on the drive back from Snoqualmie Falls, we decided to make a stop to see if they could repeat the magic. Caribbean Roast ($15.70) - Seeing this pricing, I was kind of shocked given how Paseo's competitors in the city are a couple of dollars cheaper. Paseo is a totally different beast nowadays, so perhaps they are riding a bit too much on their past fame to jack up their prices? Still, I gave this sandwich a fair shake. Paseo's hallmark has always been a sandwich dripping with delicious pork juices, a flavor bomb in the mouth. Good sandwich construction is a must, to keep the sandwich intact enough to meld everything together into a delicious bite. This Paseo - Exceptional drippage? Yes. Flavor bomb? A bit, but less complex than the competition. Construction? This sandwich is a disaster. Let's start with the baguette - it's not toasted nearly enough to redevelop some of the crust and is served lukewarm. The baguette top and bottom are reversed on top of each other. As in the rounded end piece on top of the flat piece on both sides. It makes this dish basically a pork salad with bread on the side. The poor orientation of the baguette slices, combined with the narrowness of the baguette (a hallmark of this sandwich), and the fact that they place the convex side of the lettuce facing the meat, allows everything, and I mean everything, to spill out all along the sides and ends. Upon lifting the sandwich to take my very first bite, three quarters of the ingredients landed on my plate. I'm not sure if this construction was intentional or an oversight. While the construction is poor, the items inside the sandwich are decent to good. There are onions, sliced into ring pieces instead of eights, with not enough time on the grill to caramelize any of the sugars or to help stick to the sandwich. There's plenty of pork, moist and tender from the juices it soaks in. Decently flavorful, being tangy, slightly sweet, and very savory, but missing some of the mojo/citrusy/garlicky elements. There's garlic mayo, adding fragrance and additional fat and creaminess. There are pickled jalapenos, raising the spice level up just a tad, and boosting the pleasing acidic notes. The one thing Paseo does better than competitors is the amount of meat they add - probably 50% more than other place. The flavors in this sandwich are good enough, but the construction is so terrible that it affects my rating. (3/5) Tostones ($6.25) - This dish comes with 5 tostones, dusted with a salty seasoning mixture and then drizzled with a smoky and slightly spicy chipotle sauce. The tostones are hard, yet not exhibiting much crunch on the outside, and very dry rather than fluffy on the inside. My first thought was that perhaps these tostones were battered and deep fried given the texture and how there seemed to be an outside coating that didn't make these feel like smashed plantains. Then I re-read the menu - apparently these tostones are double fried, which I guess creates these frankly subpar tostones. (3/5) Paseo has taken a big step down in the caribbean roast sandwich game. There are now places in Seattle that make a far superior sandwich in both construction and taste, and are cheaper to boot. Remembered this spot from an elite event. So I decided to come here for dinner. I had the street corn and their original pork sandwich. The service was excellent and I was greeted with a welcome and a smile. No feeling of irritation when I took my time to decide what to eat. The place is clean and fun music jamming. Good ambience. Now the food: the corn is really delicious and smothered in margarine, Parmesan cheese and sprinkled with cayenne pepper. Cooked perfectly. Had to order it. It's what I tried when I was here for the Yelp event. The sandwich was absolutely gigantic! Super tender lean pork on a crusty bread with onions, lettuce (I think was bok choy) jalapeños and lightly sauced. I think it had cheese too. Overall a delicious meal. Some reviewers have criticized its messiness, but I think this is a minor drawback considering the abundance of flavor and moisture from the roast and sauce. In my view, the mess is a small price to pay for the outstanding flavor experience. To minimize the mess, simply have some extra napkins on hand and be prepared to enjoy the delicious combination of roast, jalapeños, lettuce, caramelized onions, and exceptional sauce, all perfectly balanced on toasted bread with a crunchy exterior and soft interior. I also ordered a side of fries and a lemonade to accompany my sandwich. The fries came with a sauce that was new to me. It was paired exceptionally well with the fries, which featured a specialized fry seasoning. The two complemented each other nicely. For these three items, the total was $28.16, which is certainly on the higher end of the price spectrum for a single meal, but it will not stop me from visiting again in the future. The food is good but it's very heavy and oily. I wish the onions were cut a little smaller to make it easier to eat but it was still good. The quesadilla with pork was also incredible, I think I preferred that to the bowl. The mesh of flavors and textures was perfect. Straight to the point, get the yuca fries and beans. The classic roast pork is good, but tiring to eat in massive quantities. Pass on the chicken breast as it was dry. I have been to the Seattle location before many years ago, and tried a shrimp sandwich. My bf said I had to try the Famous Caribbean Roast sandwich, which is the best, he said. So, we came to grab some sandwiches for lunch. But, when I saw they had a pork belly sandwich, I definitely had to get that instead. And it was delicious... messy, but delicious. It had a nice chunk of pork belly meat on it. My bf got the Famous Caribbean Roast, and I took a bite of it so I can have at least tried it. But, I still prefer the pork belly one. We also got the Caribbean Roast Nachos. That was also good, but they put huge strips of the caramelized onions on it, so made it even messier and harder to eat the nachos. Paseo is best known for their hefty sandwiches, but they also serve rice bowls, salads and appetizers. A couple of us picked up lunch to-go around 11:30 AM and walked right up to the counter to order. Their phone was ringing non-stop with customers wanting to place orders, but the woman at the front was still welcoming and kind. They have an online promotion where you can get $5 off if you sign up for their newsletter. We enrolled, but never received an email with the deal. When I mentioned this to the employee, she gave us the discount anyway which made our day! We ordered one sandwich and two bowls which each came with our choice of protein. A large order for just two people, but hey, it's fun to try more things and there's nothing wrong with leftovers! + FAMOUS CARIBBEAN ROAST ($12.95): This is THE sandwich! A chewy toasted baguette housed super tender roasted pork shoulder, caramelized grilled onions, pickled jalapeños, lettuce and a savory garlic aioli. I was in awe of how succulent the pork was, the jalapeños added slight tanginess and heat, and the aioli tied it all together. The sandwich was stuffed and they didn't skimp on the meat. It's delicious, but just so messy...I couldn't even get a photo. The paper wrapping got so soggy with all the juices from the meat. A foil wrapper would have been better. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed every bite! + WEST CARIBBEAN BOWL w/ Chicken Thigh ($15.75): Super filling and flavorful! Jasmine rice came mixed with a tomato-based sauce, sour cream, cheddar cheese, beans, pickled jalapeños and cilantro. The sauce was a little sweeter than I would have liked, but it was still tasty overall. The chicken thigh was quite tender, but was somewhat bland by itself, so I'd eat it with the rice. The bowl also included a side of chips which were sprinkled with an addicting salty sweet seasoning. + CARIBBEAN PLATO w/ Pork ($15.75): A huge plate with a generous serving of shredded roast pork, plain jasmine rice, corn, black beans and green salad. The pork was delicious and not too salty. I've never had black beans like these which were served in a thin and slightly sweet sauce. It took a few bites before they grew on me. This was a well-balanced and pretty wholesome meal. Be sure to arrive hungry as the portions here are humongous whether you get a sandwich or bowl. The restaurant is nice and clean inside. I love the seafoam color scheme and tropical décor. The tables appeared to be all wiped down and a table near the entrance was well-stocked with disposable cutlery, napkins and hand wipes. Being big fans of Paseo and being SO grateful they opened on the Eastside, we decided to venture from our comfort zone and try the Caribbean roast nachos along with one of our stand bys, the tostones. First of all, kudos to Paseo for maximizing the compostable and recyclable packaging for our take out order. The only plastic was for the dipping sauce for the tostones. GREAT JOB! Unfortunately, the nachos were not so great. Not sure if it was because we were there just before closing or what, but the nachos were big on tortilla chips and lacking all but a very small amount of the shredded pork. Also the onions slices were way too long to eat with the chips. All in all, an unbalanced and unsatisfying experience. In the future, we'll stick with the items we like best. read more

Just experienced my first visit to Paseo, and it definitely lived up to the hype! I went to the Issaquah location and the ambiance is charming with a tropical vibe, and the place is impeccably clean. I tried the Caribbean Roast priced at $13.95 - apparently it is rated as the best sandwich in America based on the menu. The slow-roasted pork shoulder, cilantro, pickled jalapeños, caramelized onions, and romaine, all packed into a toasted Macrina baguette slathered with garlic aioli, made it an incredible sandwich.
