Michael at Staples :D Michael is an amazing manager and went above and beyond to help me--not just once, but six different times--with a lost order. He was patient, kind, and truly wanted to make things right. At one point, staples even stopped selling certain items (that was lost). Michael helped me with better materials to ensure the quality was right. On top of that, when one of the laminators ended up jamming, Michael didn't disregard it--he followed up and helped me days later to make sure everything was resolved. That level of care and follow-through is rare. He tested the second laminator to ensure there's no more issues. Because of Michael, I'll continue choosing Staples. An alright Staples location if you need some office supplies, but even then there are other options nearby that sell similar items. Prices are fairly reasonable, with a reasonable selection and alright presentation. The store was mostly empty on my visit, with barely any staff. When I tried to enter in a loyalty phone number, I found out that these are regularly deactivated when unused for a while. I may visit Staples from time to time to get some supplies, but am unlikely to make a special trip here versus grabbing something when I'm at a Target, Walmart, or Meijers - even if the price might be a little higher. read more

This staples and most of the chain has steadily gone downhill with no visible signs of improvement. Staff is undertrained and not equipped with the right tools to complete their tasks. The trip to the cash register is always an adventure when using Rewards. Always seems that they need help. They stock only the most popular items and the place feels depressing. Watching for sales is the best way to get good pricing. Otherwise, they're not competitive. Their copy and print services can be relied on and I still utilize those services with confidence. We stopped by to look at office chairs for our student returning to college. Found one and went to checkout. The clerk says, 'if you download the Staples mobile app today, you will get a $25 gift card.' So, I did. But when I try to sign-in with my Staples Reward account via the app, I get an error message. Then the clerk says I probably need to create a new account. That didn't make sense to me, but I followed the instructions. Another error message. Another clerk suggests I try with the existing account again. Error message. I politely asked to speak with the manager thinking they might better understand how the system/incentive program worked. His response, 'sorry I can only help with things in-store.' I guess his responsibility for the Staples brand stops at the door to the physical store? (He also said the incentive wasn't actually a gift card, but $25 worth of Staples rewards points, so we were also initially misled.) We did go ahead and buy the chair, but without the promised gift card or rewards points. But I immediately deleted the app from my phone. And it will be a long time before I visit Staples, at the store or online, again. read more

No complaints about this store. Had a return that had some issue in the system, but staff did a good job resolving the issue. When it was taking some time another employee came by to check on me and let me know what was going on. They were all very nice and attentive to the issue. It did take longer than I expected, but again all the staff was nice about it. I was returning an online order that was some how not working in the system. They were able to make the return in the end. All staff had masks. Store was clean. I've been in a few times before, and have had no issues. Wow, everyone here was SO NICE. Seriously wasn't expecting to do a review on staples but I had to because I rarely experience above and beyond customer service like this. First I made a return and the guy was just so thorough and kind. After that I looked for a printer and the cashier came and helped me and answered all my questions. He gave me great advice and opinions. I was buying a floor model so he made sure I had all the right wires and what not. As I was checked out, another worker was helping me and went in back to get me an extra cord and manual. Everyone was just so nice and helpful. I really appreciate it!! read more

Depressing store in a quiet strip mall. I found it out of sheer luck. I was picking up lumber from Lowe's when I remembered needing printer ink. The Google indicated a few stores nearby having stock. Office Depot (my first choice and cost effective) but a drive away. Wal-mart (out of stock & cheapest) Last but not least, Staples. Which had an in between price and the ink was in stock. It's an office supplies store with the most dismal vibe. If you have needs, you'll want to get it and leave quickly. The manager should consider playing elevator music or pumping essential oils into the store's atmosphere. I feel badly for the employees having to be in here all day. Between Staples and Office Depot, I prefer the latter. It is simpler to locate products because the flow makes sense, product placement, office supplies next to writing utensils, etc. In this Staples shop I was aimlessly walking around searching for additional needs. Figured I could grab some other office supplies like hanging folders and printing paper. I had to find an employee to direct me because it wasn't obvious where to find them. Lastly, there is too much crap around the registers. By the time I'm at the register I just want to buy and get out. These "random shit corrals" are great time wasters but can be placed elsewhere. Used their print shop for a booklet for a school project and I sent it in like requested online, multiple of 4 so no BLANK SHEET are needed! Come to retrieve it and there is 4 blank sheets ADDED and it's bound backwards and upside down??? Like what? Print quality was fine, but print stuff like how it is sent in! Printer department is the worst, numerous times I have been told some thing will be done, only to pick it up and find out that it is not done. Placed an order online, went to pick it up a few days later, and they told me the machine had been broken, yet no one calls to tell me that they wouldn't be able to complete the order. Horrible service. Ordered business cards that were to arrive by courier by 3pm. Business cards did not arrive. Spoke with employee. He found the problem, said he will correct it and have them created and delivered same day. still no business cards. Called in the evening, spoke to another employee. Turns out the correction was never made in the computer. Asked to speak to a manager ... he put me on hold and left for the day... No wonder this shop has many low reviews. Not enough staff, which double or triple the wait time after I placed a binding order. The person was interrupted to serve others. I was told the turn around time was one hour. Eventually, it took almost three hours. The job was easy. But the worker is never on the job for more than five minutes. Furthermore, the worker did not know how many pages to bind in each coil. Each one of them is loose and not up to standard. All the three coils are loose, and the bound documents look wrong and unprofessional. The cashier could not find anyone or would not find anyone to see whether they carry three hold punch printing paper. I had to ask her because on one else was around for my question. I looked through all the papers and could not find the product myself. She also does not know whom to ask. The store has best supplies around the area. But if you cannot use them correctly or find the products, the good supplies are in vain. Hire more staff and train them correctly. Otherwise, FedEx and OfficeMax may be better. read more

I would give no stars if I could. I was so, so disappointed with this store and how the employees in the copy & print section treated my photos/documents that needed to be laminated. I don't know how the lamination could be THIS bad. I counted at least 80 air bubbles. This is so unacceptable and they probably don't train the employees on how to properly execute these tasks. I'm so angry because these cards were to be given as gifts. and one of these photos I can never get back as they were a limited edition image that I bought off of eBay. stuff like this costs time and money for customers. there shouldn't be room for error when it comes to laminating. I would be fine if there were a couple air bubbles. but over 80? so unacceptable. can't believe I even paid close to $3 for something this ridiculous. stay away from this store. will be reporting to customer service. read more

Copies remarkably expensive Just had 50 color copies made, 8 1/2 x 11. Should have asked the price first. They charged me almost $1.00 each. Five stars to the Rolling Meadows Staples copy shop! I went to Staples in Ann Arbor, MI in search of paper for wedding programs, and found exactly what I was looking for: translucent vellum, and beautiful, high quality paper (probably meant for resumes). It was only by accident that we discovered that Staples has an in-store copy/print shop. So when I went back to Arlington Heights the following week (about a hundred pounds of paper in tow), Staples was my first stop. And before I could even get there, my dad investigated (he is an excellent investigator). Ryan, copy-shop manager extraordinaire, wrote up an estimate for him and, since it was for a wedding, and he was also getting married soon, he gave us a bit of color printing for the price of b&w (please don't use this against them--I'm telling you this so you know how helpful and nice they are, not because they can or should always give away their color printing). We were debating about having them folded and stapled by the printer--thinking we could save some money by not doing it--but it wound up being less than $10 to have Staples fold and, um, staple 250 programs. They were done early. And they looked STUNNING. And when my dad found a coupon in his mail the next day, he called them back and they allowed me to redeem it retroactively. Not a huge fan of this place as I've been here a few times. I usually give a place a few times to fix their wrong before a post a unfavorable review. So here it goes... First of all it always seems a bit dark, like some lights are turned off or missing some bulbs.(kinda reminds me of a kmart actually because of their lighting) But the big reason is their closing time. I know a bit odd! But twice I approached their doors to only see them locking up once and the other time it was already locked but workers were still in there. The problem is that when they were locking up it was 45 mins before their close time...I mean who closes at 6:15??? The other time it was closed was just before 6. My gf and I thought we were going crazy but we later confirmed they are indeed open past 6. It's baffling and brings us a few good chuckles at least. Don't depend on this place being open for those final term papers people! read more

I've been dealing with the print services because they are fine when you need a fast turn around. But the staff is unprofessional. When they printed invites on the wrong paper stock... they called me during work hours and we're hoping I'd be ok with what they printed even though it was a mistake. Working at a printing company myself.. you should just print it on the paper the client asked for. I also never received "pick me up" emails.. though that may be a system thing. But on the phone they swore (not at me... just in frustration) and I was hung up one time while asking a question because a customer came to the desk? I also couldn't understand their voicemails... whoever left them wasn't comfortable on the phone. So not horrible experiences ... but the kids in the printing department need more training (or get out of puberty) read more

We came in here to shop for a new office chair. We had to be in that area 30-45 minutes testing out different chairs. Not once did anyone ever interact with us or ask if we had any questions. Once we settled on a chair I had to track someone down and ask if they weren't too busy to assist us. The associate that was paged acted as though we were interrupting him and was less than thrilled with my questions. It appeared that the clearance item chair we picked was only available with the floor model. It has some damage to it so we asked for some considerations. We were told that the Elk Grove facility had 2 of the same chairs. So we go over there only to find that they only had one and it also was a floor model. The leather was far worse shape and the associate stated it wasn't on clearance and double the cost. Well It was back to Rolling Meadows to get the one with less damage. I was told that they would sell us a $30 extended warranty. Well I know most warranties will not cover damage. Then I asked if this chair is being phased out what would the replacement be? He states they would refund you on a staples card. Well with all the wasted gas traveling between stores I would have thought someone could have picked up the phone and coordinated and communicated to have prevented the unnecessary traveling. read more

I probably would have given 0 stars if I could. Came in yesterday afternoon looking for a lazer printer for my daughter who is going back to college and her apartment needs a printer. As I have been looking for printers as of late I guess due to covid stock is in short supply. This Staples did have some models, but we were unsure of what to get. My price point was between $100.00 and $200.00. The problem lies with the fact that me and my daughter walk the 2 or 3 printer aisles for probably 20 minutes at least. Now you would think 2 people looking around and appearing to not know what exactly we were looking for that a employee would have asked us if we needed help. This was not the case. We walked the aisles and nobody paid us any attention. I have encountered this with other items in this store before and if I wasn't having such a hard time finding a printer I would never have gone to Staples ,for this very reason. I will say they did have some of the more expensive ones. The ones where the toner cost $100.00, but again I didn't want to pay the big bucks. So after being ignored we left without spending a penny. So today 8/14/20 I was on my quest for a printer again. I went on line and checked out the Office Depot on Golf and Roselle road and the website showed they had some items. Before arriving I stated to my daughter if we are ignored again we are leaving. Low and behold we went in appeared to not know what we were doing and a actual human being addressed us and asked us if we needed help, which of course we did. To make a long story longer I ended up buying a more expensive wireless laser printer and a $100.00 toner cartridge for the grand total of $400.00 +. Just because a employee was doing their job and giving us information and helping. What a novel concept in a retail environment. I truly don't know how this Staples stays in business. They would of had that sale had someone had the forethought to do there job. I wish I had the $400.00 Office Depot receipt to upload, but my daughter already took it with her. The store employee that was assigned to me for help was very negative about the printer products they were selling and made me feel very uncomfortable about buying the printer. Never buy open boxes electronics from Staples what I did. Thanks God I bought additional extended warranty for my own money otherwise nobody can help. I bought printer in Wheeling store which went out of business 5 days later. Printer was not working of course. I called factory for 1 year warranty, but they told me that they can not help because warranty already expired 2 years ago. Haha. I went to Rolling Meadows store to return it (15 days after purchase date) and they told me that 14 days return period is expired. So I can go away with my problem. I talked to JASON EDWARDS (GENERAL MANAGER of this store) about issue and he promise me to solve this problem and call back. He did not look he was caring about it. He never called me back of course. In 1 month I came back to the store and he told me that I should use my extended warranty I bought for my money and he does not know and does not care about my problem because i purchased it from different store and it was clearance item. But when I purchased it nobody told me that, did not mark receipt with clearance item but told me that it is item from online and was returned by somebody.
