I stopped in this fairly new Staples in Pacific Beach to pick up a Tax Software program and some double AA Duracell batteries. The batteries I found pretty quickly and were reasonably priced, but the software program took some looking for. Eventually, I found it all stacked in it own H&R Block display. Apparently, I walked right by it when I came in. The store was very well organized and well kept throughout. Most of the employees were busy helping patrons and had friendly attitudes. I helped my self to what I needed without a hitch. The young lady at the cash register was on the quiet side, but friendly and she bagged my stuff and told me to have a good day. That's always good. I attempted to recycle a printer at this store. One particular person at this store was unfortunately afflicted with a learning disability. He couldn't understand my intentions. He thought I was trying to get cash for the gold in the printer. This person hopefully is not exemplary of the rest of the employees in this store . Avoid this store at all cost. Can you give these employees something to do????? I was in there yesterday and just wanted some PEACE and QUIET to do some shopping. In 10 minutes time I was asked over and over and over by the same 2 employees If I needed any help. I was polite at 1st but after the 5th time from the same 2 people in a spam of 10 minutes. I do a lot of gift card buying from Staples, and I typically go to the Mission Valley or Sports Arena one. But I had dinner plans in PB, so I stopped by this Staples to purchase my gift cards. This store had no signage as to the promotion going on, and the one employee behind the register didn't know anything about the promotion, either. Even worse, he sat there and stared at the cards and read random pieces of information off those cards as if he was magically going to figure out if they were part of the promotion. I called for a manager, and she didn't know if the cards were part of the promotion either. She took me to the back and had to scan the cards and look them up in the system. This is not the first day of the promo, it's already a few days in, so in my opinion the staff should be aware of the current promos going on by now. And this would all be alleviated if there was signage by the gift cards, like the other stores always do (on day 1 of the promotion). This manager definitely realized this was way too long an encounter and apologized for the confusion, saving this from being a 1* review. But 20+ minutes to complete a transaction is just too long, and I'll avoid this location in the future if I can. read more

I was looking for Dial antimicrobial soap and surprisingly, this Staples location carries it in store. (You can check online to see which Staples locations carry items.) Home Depot didn't even carry Dial onsite, only online. Lucky for me, I was also emailed a 15% off coupon for cleaning supplies, so I saved money on my purchase as well. Knowing what I needed, I walked in and headed towards the back of the store (I'd never been in there before, but assumed the cleaning products were in back). Someone working there asked if I was looking for something in particular and told him Dial antimicrobial soap and he wasn't sure if they carried it, but led me to the cleaning section. There it was! The transaction at the register was quick and friendly. I even got another coupon. My experience here was quick and pleasant. The lot is also big so parking is ample. I suggest anyone purchasing items from Staples join their rewards program. It's free and they email you coupons every week. read more

Terrible service. Very frustrated. I was in on Friday morning to make 15 color copies of a 20 page packet for a meeting Friday afternoon. The guy behind the counter at the copy center said the color quality wasn't good from copies and asked me to go back to my office and bring a flash drive with the PDF. He then quoted it would be about 10 minutes when I had the flash drive. I went back to my office got the drive and went back to the copy center. When I got back into Staples the guy was busy helping another guest and a girl behind the counter greeted me. I told her I went to the office to get the drive per that gentleman's advice. She agreed it was a good idea and would put my copies in the queue. She told me the wait time was 24 hours. I asked when the wait time went from 10 minutes to 24 hours and she said it's always 24 hours. I said a few minutes ago the man had started my order and made some copies and that's how I knew the quality wasn't good. She said no way it's a 24 hour wait time. She told me to go to the self service area and since I was in a rush I did that. The girl (who wasn't doing anything) watched me walk tot he machine. My flash drive was a funky shape and wouldn't fit into the self service machine which only fits a perfect rectangular drive. She stood on the other side of the counter and watched me unable to make my copies. I then packed my stuff up and left the store. I went a block down to FedEx where I was greeted and my copies were done for me in 10 minutes. I spent $179 and will have more large orders like that in the future. I will never waste my time at Staples Copy Center again. read more

So far I have mixed feelings about this new location. It seems like the staff is still trying to get a hang of operating the new store. Both times I was doing an in-store pick up and they had to take some time finding the papers for the pick up and iron out the process on the computer. The employees seem to be knowledgeable about the product and services, but seems the store lacks a personable experience (Maybe it comes off this way because they are stressed?). For example, I was looking to do an in store pick up but no one was at the desk. On the cabinet it says "See any associate for help". So I went to the printing area and the lady bluntly told me, "Go to that desk, this is the printing area". I told her no one was there and she said "I know, Ill call someone". Ill be back a couple more times since this looks like it will be the go to computer store in Pacific Beach. Hopefully as the business settles into a good operating routine the experience will get a little better. read more

The musical chairs are finally over and this high visibility Pacific Beach retail corner now has the new and improved Staples opened and ready for business. With a fancy Trader Joe's next door and the construction equipment finally out of there, I visited this Staples and found it to be wonderful. Since I like to buy rolling office chairs to scoot around the house in, I got a nice one for $49.99 with their grand opening specials. As soon as you walk through the automatic doors, a big display of gift cards is right there. A gracious employee is seated at the desk at the front and offers his/her assistance. When you leave through the one exit, this same employee bids you goodbye. This Staples in the very middle of Pacific Beach at Garnet and Ingraham was given a complete overhaul. The developers totally knocked down the entire building and rebuilt the same structure on the lot, only 2,000 square feet less. It used to be long in the tooth, but now with the upgrades, this busy PB strip mall is looking fine with the face lift. I had to deduct 1 YELP STAR because, according to a story in one of our local beach area newspapers, "Some feel that developers should have been more involved in engaging the community in this project." Community activists were shocked that the Staples project did not come before their planning and beautification committees before the wrecking ball started swinging. The newspaper noted, "one of those disappointed by how the Staples redevelopment has been handled is Brian Curry, chairman of the Pacific Beach Planning Group (PBPG). Curry dashed off a letter to city planners, noting, "An applicant for a 60,000-square-foot retail center in the heart of Pacific Beach (Ingraham and Garnet) was not required to appear at the PBPG or engage in any community outreach. This situation results in an incredible disconnect on forward planning. It seems planning policy should be revisited to guarantee that the public and PBPG is consulted on any new development in Pacific Beach, especially with regard to major projects." Can't blame these locals for feeling left out of the action. It would not have hurt the Staples honchos to send some flacks to a planning board to placate the beach crowd about this big project. The PB beautifiers should be happy thisnew Staples strip mall project was built east--away from the precious beaches (and lucrative bars) of western Garnet Ave. Otherwise, this nice, new Staples is a beauty for sure. read more

I went there last Friday for a passport photo. I was extremely clear about the fact I needed ONLY the digital format of the photos. I was told I was going to have both printed and digital copy and that I had to pay for both. No problem. Photos were good and I got the usb. I checked today the usb to upload the photos and there was anything inside. I went there and ask if they still had the photos since it happened two days ago. They first checked saying that sometimes happens and instead of inside the usb the photos goes I don't know where. Conclusion I have to retake them because every night they cancel the photos. Good thing would be first double check that the file is inside the usb especially if someone is very clear that that is the important format. Secondly, would be great ask people to double check by the end of the day since the file won't be available anymore the day after. I was offered for a refund only when I was walking out. Instead of a fare fund would be great and more professional offer a new photo for free. I was outside when I heard about the refund and I just didn't come back. Very disappointed. Be careful and always double check right the way if you can or you will lose money and time. read more

Printed out my etsy design wedding invites here. All my detail and rsvp cards were cut to the wrong size and 25% of the invites design was cut off. The initial person helping us was sweet and helpful but passed them off to another girl who cut everything crooked and left everything too big. She said that their machine doesn't cut straight and that if ppl wanted them cut correctly they should cut them themselves (even tho we paid for them to be cut). Wish I would have known! Anyway I just wanted to get out of there so i didn't notice how bad some of them were until we were home compiling them and trying to fit them into envelopes. I took them back to the Staples in Poway, near my work and they re-cut them to fit in the envelopes. FedEx in the next shopping center charges a little more but is way more friendly and careful. Most disgusting Staples I've ever been to. I used to work for this company about 7 years ago and clearly it has lost its standards. First of all, walking into the store an employee seemed to be coming back from break and was walking head down, buried in their phone, walking so slowly and not paying attention to the fact that paying customers are right behind her trying to enter the store. Second, this SAME employee then clocks back in to tend to the copy center, as she is breaking down boxes her nasty thong is hanging out of the back of her pants. Literally made me gag. Third, I only sent a fax today and it was only two pages I faxed, the cashier didn't even know where the proper button was on the POS to make the sale. I had to wait for him to call over another employee so I could pay. Will definitely never visit this store again. read more

I asked to talk with someone in the print center and she bluntly said we're closed I was surprised and apologized for calling late even though its only 6pm on a Monday and then the phone disconnected. I called back to ask her if that's how she treats all customers. She said she didn't hang up on me and said she's busy closing up the store. I understood this and was ready to leave it alone and then she hung up on me again. I hope someone from the store, like a manager that cares about the image of their company and location, reads this and addresses her appropriately. Allow me to go "East Coast" on your ass... Today, I called asking whether a specific item was in stock, a WorldCard Pro business card reader, rated #1 in 2014 for business card readers. After waiting for over a minute on the phone, a woman answered and asked me what I wanted. I told her I wanted to know if they had a "WorldCard Pro business card scanner" in stock. She came back in over a minute (again) and told me they had "linen but no wool"...funny, yes, but a bit frustrating and more than a bit concerning based on my query. She came back, again in over a minute, and told me yes they had a "WorldCard Pro business card scanner" in stock. I drove to the store to buy it but no one knew what I was talking about. The only card scanner they had was also a receipt scanner - very fancy, overpriced for about $399 - NOT what I was looking for. So, my advice is, "dig the shit out of your ears"! Excellent customer service from Rick, the assistant manager. There was a 5 person in line at the 1 check-out counter and he immediately opened another checkout. He is a problem solver. Look for him if you want a problem solved right away. At previous visits, he helped answer my questions whether in printing or computer related issues. He is very knowledgeable. Other staff are also helpful and willing to help esp if they see you browsing the aisles trying to find things you want to buy. They make you feel important. Stopped by this Staples to pick up some ink for my printer, and some Marcal toilet paper (which is made of 100% recycled paper, and why don't supermarkets carry this?) since i had a 10% off coupon sent to my email. I'd never been to this store before, but my general navigation sense got to find my needed items. While walking through the store with my cart, i passed a few of the staff, but none of them welcomed me or asked me if I needed any assistance in finding stuff. Maybe I looked like I knew what i was doing, but usually other Staples' stores have a little bit friendlier staff. It took at least two calls by the one open cashier to get another staff person to come and open up a second checkstand when the line got to be "long" - at least 3 or 4 customers. Not enough staff during the middle of the day? I got my ink and toilet paper, got my discount, and dropped off my old ink cartridge for $3 rebate (which is no longer applied immediately, but sent in the mail). I chose this location because it was convenient for my other errands, and I had guessed it would be larger (and thus more likely to carry what i needed) than the La Jolla Village Square Staples (and indeed, it was larger), but if you want the best selection, and slightly more helpful staff, probably go to the Kearny Mesa Staples, next to 163, south of Balboa. read more

Put me in any store and I could shop for awhile. I just like to shop anywhere. That said, I even like shopping at Staples. It's unorganized, the staff isn't the most aware, but it's a big enough store with enough stuff to browse through and buy that I can manage on my own without the staff's help. I like to organize things, so this place fulfills that need with all the filing systems, computer programs, colored file folders, dividers, label makers and so forth. They sell recycled printer cartridges here also alot cheaper than buying them new, and the ink is the same. If you trade in your old one, it's even cheaper. I never walk out here empty handed even if no one in there has the ability to help out. read more

WARNING! They are not being honest! Last week I went to buy a new HP Printer 9015 Series. When I went to check out I was told that my temporary cartridges would only be good for @ 15 pages and that I needed to buy a black cartridge @ $30.00 even if I had instant ink! I decided to wait on the purchase and a few days later I sent my "technically advanced" husband in to get the printer. HE WAS TOLD THE SAME THING! I just checked in with HP instant ink... they told me that the temporary cartridges have @ 250-300 pages worth of printing in them! SHAME ON YOU STAPLES! read more

You've normally got to leave PB for just about anything that isn't booze or a bikini so I was stoked when they moved into the neighborhood. It's easy to get in and out - no long lines or parking problems. They're surprisingly competitive on electronics prices, just watch the ads and they carry a lot of the same products as Best Buy - cameras, PCs, printers, GPSs, cell phones, etc. In the last year I've bought a printer, cell phone, laptop, camera and a variety of other goodies at the best price in town without leaving PB. I've had a number of good experiences with the staff which is the only reason I'm reviewing a nationwide chain and giving them the thumbs up. My only complaint about Staples is that so many of their products are made in China. They're making a killing on low cost high markup items. Beware of the bargain bins and read the labels. You can go next door to CVS or Vons and buy similar products made in America. read more
