Unlike some of the other reviews for this store, I was extremely grateful and thankful for the manager John and his associate Gabriel when I came to get a few colored prints for a staff meeting I was attending in Pismo Beach. I made a mistake by entering more copies than needed at the printer, and even though it was a mental error on my part, John and Gabriel went out of their way to refund my extra copies, Even Though They Were Just About To Close. Really only wanted to give 1/2 a star. I can't believe this place hasn't closed. I ordered 2 color copies on line 3 hours ago got a email it's ready. I walk in she says she hasn't gotten to it yet then helps 3 other people behind me. 5 minutes later I ask can I just print it myself and get a refund for my online order. It took me 5 minutes to get the printer and credit card to work together so I could finally print it. She is now off in a corner playing with something. I ask again for a receipt for my online refund after about another 5 minutes she says she can't print me a receipt, I remind her this is a print shop. She plays with the computer for another 5 minutes and says it's emailed to me. After another 5 minutes of wait for a email that never comes I ask again if I can just get a printed receipt of a refund. She then calls for back up and final after 25 minutes hands me a receipt. Not sure what business model their using but I will never return. Terrible customer service. read more

I recently purchased a piece of luggage from Staples through Instacart and went to a Staples store to return the item. The initial associate I worked with was unable to process the return and stated that it could not be handled in-store and would need to be returned through Instacart. He called over a second associate, who also could not complete the return. I was then told I would need to come back another day when a manager was available. When I explained that there must be a way to return the item directly to Staples, the first associate's tone became increasingly aggressive, dismissive, and impatient. Rather than attempting to find a solution, he focused on arguing his position and pushing the issue off to another time. As a salesperson myself, I understand that customers want to be heard, treated with respect, and feel that every effort is being made to help them. Unfortunately, that was not the experience conveyed here. Fortunately, Callie, another Staples employee, overheard the situation and stepped in. She immediately listened, understood the issue, and successfully processed the return on the spot. She immediately located printed instructions for handling Instacart returns, which resolved the issue quickly and professionally. Her calm demeanor and problem-solving skills completely turned the experience around. Callie is the epitome of a great employee -- attentive, knowledgeable, and respectful. Today I took a dysfunctional charging cable purchased at Staples, branded as Staples, hoping for a refund or exchange. Store manager was emphatic that Staples didn't offer exchanges even of clearly defective items that clearly came from their store unless the defective item was accompanied by its packaging or the credit/debit card that paid for the item. I didn't have either. (You mean you don't keep the boxes in which all your purchases come? For shame.) I'm a Staples rewards member and the item was purchased on that account, but they were unwilling/unable to look up the purchase. So what I got was: no refund; no exchange; no apology; no sympathy. The clerk and store manager who helped (or rather didn't help) me were not rude, but neither were they helpful. read more

This Staples is easily accessible and centrally located. When entering the store, I was not greeted by the front register staff who were not busy with customers. I finally found the item I was looking for after checking several aisles. I was never approached for questions or assistance. Prior to entering the store, I checked on-line for an item to see if it was in stock and its price. The shelf price at this Staples was $7.00 higher than the on-line price. The front cashier honored the on-line price, but insisted on seeing the price on my phone. But, why is the price different in the store? Prices should always match, whether on-line or in-person, and Staples should not charge a potentially higher price to an uninformed shopper. I advise checking their on-line prices prior to purchasing items at Staples. On a positive note, if one is an "Easy Rewards" member (free and easy to join), their ink and toner cartridge recycling program is good for the environment and the customer receives points when they recycle tech, batteries, ink/toner cartridges and much more. Two stars based on the item price difference, and the lack of staff greeting and interaction. read more

I've worked in customer service for years, and my experience here was honestly disappointing. The man assisting me was extremely rude--not just to me, but to other customers as well. His tone was unfriendly, and there was absolutely no effort to be welcoming or helpful. It's really not hard to greet people with a smile or show a little compassion, especially when someone is doing something for the first time, like applying for TSA PreCheck. A bit of patience and understanding goes a long way. Maybe he was having a bad day, but based on other reviews, it seems like this location has an ongoing issue with poor customer service. We ordered our Christmas cards from this staples and the photos came out nothing like the proof I downloaded from their website. The cards were blurry, poorly cropped, and the photos had an awful brown filter. They also forgot to print 50 of my cards, so I had to go back. You get what you pay for! We ended up including a paper with a QR code in our Christmas card envelope so people could to see the non-blurry photos. I also had to wait a while the first time I went to pick up the cards - there were 3 employees behind the counter and I was the only customer.... Came here the other day for some photo copies and they were very helpful, but I got about half the copies I normally get at staples for almost double the price, which really shocked me. I was expecting to pay about $100 and it was almost double that even with the discounts the dude gave me, which I greatly appreciate. Anyway, he was very helpful and got my copies done fairly quickly. Clerk at the Amazon desk was just generally rude. I shouldn't need to justify my purchases and you should be making me feel welcome in the store. The old dude (I didn't see a name tag) running the counter made me feel anxious, like I was taking time out of his day. As far as I know he's the manager, who knows. He commented on the items I was returning, asking why I had gotten them etc... don't want your opinion/feedback on my purchases, thanks. Scan the barcodes and put em away. At one point the app froze and rather than have him stand there I told him to help someone else out. He refuses and says something along the lines of "I'd rather just get this over with". I just canceled the return and went out to my car. Without someone breathing down my neck, I was able to get the return to go through properly. At Whole Foods... I don't want to have to deal with this guy again and it's worth a drive across town. Every time I come to this store actually looking to buy something I end up finding it cheaper at Best Buy anyway. Ostensibly, Staples partnered with Amazon as an excuse to bring people into their (dingy) store. After this interaction I won't ever be back, so that might not be working out so hot. Went in to do a few Amazon returns and the clerk was so rude. He first looked at me disgusted when I told him I had a lot of returns he said, "how many?" And I said, "6" he then said, "great" in a very rude tone. Then told me he had to go on break in 10 min and was very annoyed at me. I told him I could come back another time and he sighed and said, " no, I'll do it." He then proceeded to do my returns but was very unfriendly. Do not recommend going here for Amazon returns. We bought a computer from here that was supposed to be top of the line. By the time it was mailed to us and my daughter moved away to college and set it up we realized it wasn't working. When we contacted the store they said you can only return it within 2 weeks and that we needed to take it up with Linovo. Linovo wouldn't take the computer back and said that it could t be fixed and even if we would have bought the warranty it wouldn't cover what was happening. Linovo kept the computer for months while they were looking at it. I went in to staples today to talk to a manager since we paid $800 for a computer that doesn't work. When I asked to please speak to a manager he told the staff he was on the phone. As I wait and waited I checked in with a staff member again who informed me that the manager took a break and would come up front after her was done. He finally came to the front and ignored me and began moving some boxes. His staff said that was the manager. He was blatantly ignoring me. I politely asked if he could help me. He gave me the same story that they don't take back electronics after 2 weeks. I explained that we didn't even have the device for 2 weeks after we purchased it because it was back ordered. He was super rude and said he wouldn't refund me a dime after paying $800 for the device that was unusable. To end this saga. We bought a great apple computer from Costco who always takes back anything that is faulty. We went to staples to save a few dollars and we paid for it! Never again!!! 9:00 opening seems very late for a business! The same TRASH, FILTHY FLOOR around the copiers that I have observed for MONTHS! Perhaps their employees are not valued, are treated and paid on that scale, hence they don't take pride in their surroundings Management seems to be on a very TIGHT purse string? . When one of the two copiers that customers use are down, it is because they don't have more of the ink refills. But this IS Staples, where they sell this stuff. Perhaps not exactly what their machines use, but I see the 'Out of Order' sign too frequently. The cost to copy PER PAGE from an email is around 25 cents. WHAT? ⁉. That seems pretty extreme. For a copy of an in-hand page at the UPS store is around 10-12 cents, depending on the amount. It seems hard to give them my important business. read more

I went into Staples to have some emails printed that my had sent me. I asked for help and I was given a and to figure things out for myself. Not being completely savvy on how to set up documents for printing, I was spending a lot of time trying to figure it out when another employee came up and asked if he could help me. I told him what I was trying to do. He very quickly moved some things on the screen and flipped up another screen and told me something in " printer lingo" which didn't make any sense to me at all. I said, "Wait a minute, I don't understand what you're saying." He rudely responded, "If you will just listen and I'll tell you!" (...more printer lingo which made no sense to me at all.) We walked in to look at office desks and chairs. It was a ghost town in there, and no workers to be found. I went in search of help, and the lone cashier said someone would be right there. 15 minutes later I approach the same person and get the same reply. 10 minutes later I ask again and get Taylor. If it wasn't for her we would have left. Super sweet, answered all our questions and did a price match for the same item we found on line. Give her a raise. The SLO Staples is a TSA Precheck location. I had an appt there today after completing my required paperwork online. When I came in and headed over to find where I should go a clerk realized what I was doing & since he was working a register, he told me to go stand under the TSA sign. I was not sure WHERE THAT SIGN WAS. Hidden down an aisle, I said to him ok now I see it, just want to be sure I'm not forgotten back here. He NEVER smiled, he never said ANYTHING nice, he was like a rude robot going thru the TSA process. He practically admonished me if I removed my hands the wrong way on the fingerprint scan. I tried to converse with him and it was like a stone wall. HE should NOT be in a customer service position. He also works in the regular area. It's clear he does not like the TSA "job". When you are the only game in town, you might get an exaggerated sense of your importance. I rarely give negative reviews, but I avoid this store at all costs, going to the Office Max in Arroyo Grande instead, or perusing the aisles of Target for office supplies. (Yes, I just named two competitors in a review). I also miss the excellent customer service at the old Office Max that used to be in the Costco shopping center in San Luis. After dodging a car in the tiny parking lot, I strolled up to the Print Shop with a big smile on my face, trying to create a positive atmosphere. I have been out of the sun so long that I am apparently transparent. No greeting, no eye contact, and I stood at the counter for five minutes. Two copy machines but no signage except that a credit card and a $5 deposit are required to use them. Am I going to incur extra charges? Are people pirating copies? I was planning on spending 50 cents. The kids who work here are always busy, so maybe it is just the work load, but the customer service here needs help! There is also the issue of the discount card that can never be found and the whole mystery organization of the store, with no plan or guide. read more

This is an old location and it feels it a bit. But that being said they have a nice selection of all the items you wish a Staples would have. The people who work here seem nice but I usually just find what I need on my own. The print center has been very helpful for me from time to time and they always try and find the best solutions to my needs. The checkout is easy too. It's nothing special but I've been into dirtier locations and ones with smaller selections than this so I think despite it's age and the location being surrounded by homeless people certain times of day it's good. read more

I work for a company providing home health services and operate a tablet and keyboard for my work. I have been coming here for 6 years to replace my keyboard which is attached to my tablet. I always have great customer services and Barbara has helped me for 2 years now consistently efficient, always available and makes my job so easy and not stressful ! As you may know keyboards have a short lifespan but certainly make your job easier especially if your on the computer all day!. I would highly recommend the friendly staff with great customer service at tech support. I have also have bought other items and spoke to floor salesman and another manager before on big purchases like 2 office chairs that were on sale! Came in looking for spiral notebooks - I know, it's the off season, but I was honestly expecting better selection and pricing out of an office supply store than a couple 70-page standards for $1.29 each. The stock of this store was pretty slim in general, and I felt that prices were pretty inflated all over the place. Much better to buy from Amazon if you can spare the time. Couldn't justify it for today - obviously the best time to buy notebooks is from Office Depot or Staples during the $0.15 back-to-school sales. I'll be sure to stock up next year! read more

I really appreciate the customer service here after I politely explained my issue to the general manager. I had come to staples to print out invites for an event. The employee at the copy & print station was a little less than thrilled to help me out, I get it we all have those days. Would have appreciated a little more attention to my request. When I showed up the next day to pick up my prints, the order had been printed improperly. After speaking with helpful staff and management they quickly reprinted my order the correct way and gave me a discount on my purchase. Thank you to the staff and management at Staples Slo. Unfortunately I had a frustrating experience at this Staples. They charge $8 for a 2ftx1.5ft paper to be laminated which seems on the high side, but I don't laminate things every day. There was a miscommunication about the cost and so I thought I would be spending $5 per sheet. They did end up taking some a few dollars off which was nice, just a little irritating. I needed to print a few educational papers to frame and the gentleman working again was just difficult to communicate with. Only one printer was available, which made the experience that much more difficult. They were also going to charge $3 PER cut on the laminated sheet if I wanted it cut at all. Decided against that, but again surprised- why so much just to cut it?? The quality was good, so they got that going for them. The experience was frustrating, so I do not plan to be back if I can avoid it. read more

If you don't use apps, are off the grid b/c you want your family to thrive, well, you have come to the wrong place. Remember bringing in ink cartridges and getting a measly credit, racking up "reward money" when you are there every week as a business owner, and the clerks all know you, but not having access to the "rewards?" Bringing in 69 pounds of shred which makes me eligible for a mere $5 credit (I am in retail, look, if you aren't crediting a customer 20%, forgetaboutit, don't insult them), but even then, if you are OFF THE GRID, keeping your family safe, healthy, thriving in sports and school and life, Staples is not the store for you. They used to issue "rewards, lol" via email, nope, not anymore, so you must get the "app." I MISS the small office supply store downtown SLO (and BTW Paso) that these big obnoxious box stores, in particular Staples, have put under ~ but one day, these big fancy corporations will realize that SOME people don't like brain cancer and actually live without tech/phone/computer/apps and deserve old fashioned customer service. By way of discrimination, Staples, it is only a matter of time before you face your first Class Action Suit on this. There is one nice man at the front desk that I see every week, but even the manager, ackknowledging that I spend loads of money and time in this store as a business owner, couldn't even do a $5 override for my ridiculously over priced purchase, or access my earned "reward" points. Perfect place to come when you're in a bind! I was in a panic on Monday to get some prints done. I went here hoping they would enlarge a couple prints for me and they did just that. I'm pretty sure the guy that was helping me was Mark, he was the only one at the Copy and Print Center on Monday 9/25/17. He was such a great help, super friendly and polite. I asked him if he could do a few prints within a couple of minutes and he was happy to help! I was so relieved after seeing the prints and how quickly my transaction occurred. Not only was the great customer service but they have a work space available for you. There is two copy/print machines that you can just swipe your card in if you're in a hurry. There was also a wonderful work station that allowed me to finish up my print project. It offered hole punch, paper slicer, glue, and few other office supplies. Talk about a one stop shop. I was so impressed with how clean and organized the store was. I will definitely be coming back to Staples on Broad for any work, home, or art supply needs. Wonderful job team.
