This review is for Willy, the Supervisor! This is my first time in this store and it is HUGE! Lots to look at and definitely stocked well. I also enjoy how it isn't too busy in the parking lot. Anyway, onto my point -- I went in there looking for a specific laptop bag and they didn't have it in stock. The cashier called Willy up to help me and I showed him on my phone which bag it was and that I would like to order it since they only had the next size up for $50 dollars more... And instead of ordering that one and making me wait, he actually dropped the price by $50 and gave me the bag!! I am in total shock with this customer service, very excellent. So thank you Willy! You made my day, especially considering this is my new laptop bag for my new career to be a Design Consultant :). Made my day. read more

This is in regards to their copy and print department. I had a falling out with local print shop who i found out actually charged about triple what staples charges. I showed them what i needed they got me proof same day. They quoted me 7-10 business days. I called them with payment. Gave payment on Friday afternoon. I received my print (2000 pages) on Monday. They were quicker than what they quoted. I'm impressed. Just placed another order with them for envelopes and can't wait to see the product. Wish i checked into copy and print center sooner. They are now my go to for everything print related. read more

I use this store very often mainly to buy office supplies. Today I needed to return a faulty ink cartridge which I bought online using a gift card. Unfortunately I did not have my receipt nor the gift card. No problem!!! Pablo was absolutely awesome in pulling up the transaction via my id card and refunding the cost of the cartridge. Staples is great for a quick in and out shopping visit. I tend to know exactly what I want, like an ink refill, and then leave. Otherwise, if one lingers too long one gets bothered by salespeople or the strange stale air filling the building installs an lethargic energy into one's bone marrow. Also, always look for the bargains. I tend to pre-browse online or in their catalogue to see what is on sale and then go for those items if needed. Otherwise, one can overpay for something, especially a laptop or electronic gadge. I came here today to browse a particular printer and pick up some extra large sticky notes for work. I was in and out in five minutes tops without any intrusion. read more

During their 50% off tech service sale, I brought in my computer to get a driver for audio installed. I was quoted $40 for the service plus $15 to clean my very dusty unit. Paid them in advance. This was Wednesday, ready by Friday. Friday, no call. Went in Saturday, told "got busy, come back Monday". On Wed., told ready by Fri. On Friday told not ready yet. I said, 'I give up, give it back to me." I got it back, just as dusty and broken as I had left it 10 days before. read more

A ream of paper isn't worth 7$ and the only reason I paid you 7$ is because I was in a rush and didn't realize that you would put me through filling out a form, mailing it to you, waiting for a check for 4-6 weeks and then cashing said check for an amount hardly worth the effort. This is a stupid move on your part. I'm not going to send in the rebate form. You made an extra 3$!!!! Well done!!! Here's the thing though. You made 3$, but you will probably lose more than that. I'm an IT consultant with 300+ clients who ask my advice about ink, printers, iPad accessories, etc. And not only will I not recommend you; I'll tell them the story of the 3$. Phenomenal service from Ara Toomians at the Technical Section this morning. As a senior citizen plus, I was having trouble installing the ink cartridges on a second HP Officejet 4500 which I had purchased at this Staples store several years ago. I had installed cartridges on an exact model many times before, but for some reason, the black ink cartridge on this one kept rejecting itself. Not only did Ara figure out why, but he also installed the cartridges and did everything else in order to get the printer functioning properly. Moreover, he was very kind, patient and understanding. Three Staples employees are standing near the copy machine. First guy asks... "Hey, do you all know where the "A students" go to work? "No. Where?," the other two reply. "The A students work for the B students and the C students work for the government," first guy says. These three joke telling employees are standing around Staples doing ZIP. I have just been told by a staff person she can't make ordinary black and white copies off my flash drive because there is a 2-3 hour wait. They have a lot of jobs backed up. I am invited to make my own copies on their computer set up. Instead of 11 cents, I am charged 49 cents per black and white copy. I do all the work, including printing my own receipt. A job that should cost $4.40 at Staples suddenly costs $48.48, because on top of the outrageous charge of 49 cents for black and white copies on regular paper, I am ALSO CHARGED FOR COMPUTER TIME. So Staples has cleverly figured out that a number of folks pressed for time will pay exorbitant rates to make copies to save themselves an extra trip. I went along with this this outrageous pricing precisely once. I advise you to SKIP STAPLES and make your copies elsewhere. I will from now on. Clearly Staples has a policy of creating a really careless attitude about customer service. If I was grading Staples the staff would get a D for dismal and the corporation gets an F. read more

I had to return a recently purchased Logitech keyboard which was not working properly. I spoke to Maria, the store manager and she told me to bring in the keyboard and she'd replace with a new one. Just like that. The new keyboard is working just fine. What a relief to have a store manager promptly approve replacing a six-month-old keyboard with no receipt. Just like that! I believe that more businesses should adopt a similar approach like Maria's (Just Like That) when customers have a valid problem with a product that was purchased at their place of business. HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I came in specifically for an item. Two people couldn't help me find it. They kept telling to go to the section of the store that I had already checked twice for the dry erase board. I showed the second person the item online saying there was two in stock. So she took my cell phone for a few minutes to go check and came back with they didn't carry that item even though the website showed there was two in stock. Finally Jim came to the rescue went into the back stock room and found exactly what I was looking for. When I got back to the front of the store where my cart was waiting the cashier made me go to the back of the long line to wait again to pay. Absolutely ridiculous!! We were completely disappointed by an experience we had today at this location. After looking at office chairs, we had chosen the one that we wanted in black. We were told that the black chair was not in the back stock room, and they did not know how long it would be until more came in. We were then told that there were three preassembled black chairs on the floor that we could buy. Fine, until I asked if we would get some sort of display discount, which to my knowledge is not uncommon and a logical question. The manager told us (in a condescending manner) that we actually had to pay a $10 assembly fee for the chair. After clarifying that he was indeed serious, we decided to not purchase the chair and instead went to the Novato Staples location where we were met with an incredibly helpful salesperson who was not a crook. Added note - the manager, after learning that he was going to lose our business, did not even offer to call the Novato store to see if they had the chair in stock. Faux pas. read more

You would think an "office supply" store would cater to office workers. I had 30 minutes of lunch hour to purchase a new office chair. Went to chair section, narrowed it to two chairs within 3 minutes. Then waited for 7 minutes for someone who was supposed to 'help'. There were about 10 employees in the store at the time. After 10 minutes went to "customer service" and waited there to be introduced to a 'manager' who said she would be right back and to meet her in the chair department. Went to the chair department and waited another 15 minutes with no show by the manager. Finally went back to customer service (waited 5 more minutes) told them I had to get back to work and left. Sorry Staples, you need to work on customer service. read more

Went in to make copies because my printer was down, the girl working behind the counter in the printing department didn't even know how to re-size my document. She insisted that 'we can't do that here'. Whatever, I felt like hoping behind the counter and showing her how to do her job. Meanwhile, the line of customers behind me was starting to back up. Terrible customer service and terrible training. I ended up walking out. My next trip there I needed a padded case for my MacBook, the guy at the register tried over charging me, and only after I walked back to the display and brought back the 'On Sale' sign did he charge me the sale price. Again, this store has terrible training and that in turn translates to crappy customer service. Today I needed cable lock for one of my laptops that I will be using at a trade show tomorrow. After trying Target and Office Depot, I figured I would stop in at this awful store. I asked the manager where I would find what I was looking for and He looked at me with a confused look on his face and did not know what I was talking about. So I explained to him in detail what EXACTLY a laptop cable lock (I thought that if I had used the term 'Kensington Lock' was, his head would pop off. I was so frustrated that I didn't even bother looking. When I got home, I looked online and sure enough their web page had 3 listed as 'available for pick up' at this particular store. I have a Staples near my work. The staff there are all very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. But this one is simply awful. My daughter was excited to learn that the San Rafael Staples store had the Amazon Echo in stock. We ordered it for in store pick up. The email said "ready in one hour." It was late, so we drove to the store (about 25 miles) the next day. When we got there the customer service associate told me it was not ready. After we waited for about 15 minutes, I was told that they did not have any in stock. What? It was ordered and paid for. I was told that the "in stock" notification on the website didn't mean they really had it. WTF? What a waste of time and gas. I went home and ordered from Amazon. What a joke of a business model. Good for basic office supplies. I tend to come to big box places just to get everyday stuff, not for big ticket items or services. I prefer Staples to the other office supply store nearby, however since that one is closer to me I rarely am in here. But the times that I am here, it's been pleasant and efficient. The store is clean, the employees are more plentiful than the other place. Their prices are ok, they do run good promotional sales that make their regular prices look silly, so if you can find something there in those sale bins, you'll be ahead of the game. read more

Please don't ever take your phone here . I brought my phone after I had cracked my screen on New Years got it back and seem to work fine except my fingerprint id . I went home to delete and re add my fingerprint and it wouldn't let me even set my fingerprint. I went back today and then was told me to wait 20 -30 minutes by KELLY I come like 20 mins later and she in one of the aisle. She tells me that it's inner problem chip and I should take it to Apple or they can send it off but I have to pay for it . For fixing computers it's like having a small personal store, rather than like the big box anonymous store BB down the block. But your small personal computer repair guy is actually a multi billion dollar company; sort of the best of both worlds. I brought a vista computer in to be (sadly) recycled, but it runs a software program for making labels from the windows 98 era. It happens to be a better program than anything on the market today, and Avery bought it and mothballed the software; this program is essential for my business and I can't work without it; I have it running on windows 7 machines in xp mode, and would miss the native 32bit os the vista machine was running. As windows 7 is discontinued, and those machines will be rare, I rather have the vista machine as another backup than recycled. I explained the situation to their "tech squad" and they attempted to clone the broken hard disk to a new hard disk and restore the old vista machine. Also they backed up all the data first. The restoration was a gamble, BB said it could not be done. It worked! Better not to be in a rush, let them work out the kinks if any, be patient, and their computer tech repair department will do their thing properly. The rest of the store I shop often, and they are out of essentials quite a bit, but the store is convenient for me, and if I really need something that they are out of the Staples in Novato always has it. read more

Before you buy anything in this store, check online first!!!! They don't let you know there's a sale going on for the exact item you're purchasing there. I saw the sale online and then returned my item(s) and had trouble because they said the item was tampered with - tampered? The printing department/copying area of this store is outstanding with a very young, nice DOMINICAN student who is more than helpful you can always request if you need any type of specialized information. This store is well organized, and the department I am so impressed by and with that does all the business accounts, business cards, etc. really should be proud of the DOMINICAN student who not only is wonderful employee for the store, but she is also a great example of a hardworking student with a true interest in helping customers which many students are not many times. You will be very happy with the service you will receive as the management is very organized also with always being present for any needs. Great place to shop for teachers, and for office items with wonderful rewards program in addition to consistent attention from the employees with really super work attitudes. I do not believe in writing bad yelp reviews, but today was so terrible I felt obligated to say something. I went in for routine copies, some single sided and some double. I usually do them myself at the self service station, and can be in and out in about ten to fifteen minutes. Today I notice they have new copy machines, ok, and they don't work. I ask for help and a nice woman comes over and figures out the machine is just not operating. She makes one set of copies for me and I let her know I have a few more documents that I need to work on as well. Since the copier was not working she said they could do it in the print center. Cool. I go through everything with one guy, he rings me up and tells me it will be 30 minutes, due to the fact they are backed up. Fine, I get it. I leave, go to sprouts and return 40 minutes later. When I get up to the register they let me know I was in fact not charged for everything, which I knew I was, and that the copies were done. Great whatever just get me out of there. Then I notice they didn't even finish the copies! They did one set out of four! I about lost it. They tell me it'll will be a bit longer for the rest. Ummmm, you said all the documents would be done 15 minutes ago at this point. Then they tell me the copiers are working again so I can go do it myself. I do, in UNDER 5 minutes! While this whole time I'm being charged again for the copies I already paid for. They refunded me, once I pointed out on the receipt that I did in fact pay for everything, now TWICE. Look I get it, sometimes things are out of your hands, like the nice assistant manager helping me. But the guy that told me 30 minutes and only got 1/4 of my job done in 40, give me a break. You wasted over an hour of my time for something I could do myself in under 5 minutes normally. Also side note every time I'm at staples copy center, someone is getting yelled at at the copy center. Get your s**t together copy center. I'll be at Kinkos. read more
