Alright, so here is the final update. I replaced my 5T York system with a 5T SAK. Model number is: SAK-60FDN2-M18M My first one star review was more based on the installer not installing properly, which is not Star Air Kontrol fault. But now we are setup properly and the AC unit is working. But this is what I still hate. With the old York system, if the house gets to 75 and I want 71, it just cranks at full speed to get house to 71 in 45 minutes and shuts off. The SAK system is Variable speed to save energy, which could be great, but not in this case. Same scenario. I turn on AC to 71 at 75 and it cranks until about 74, then it goes into an energy saving mode and take multiple hours to get to 71. The idea being it saves energy this way. It however means that while my York ran 4-6 hours per day, this unit runs 12-23 hours per day and can't still get the house as cool midday and only achieves requested temperature at night. It will even lose temperature at times while it runs in an energy saving mode. So, while it is made to save energy, it is actually going to cost us about 800kwh more per month during summer. We've gone from 60-90 kwh per day to 100-121kwh per day. This is brutal. In the end, this unit costs us about $376 more in electricity per month in the name of energy efficiency. Last year our all time high KWH usage never broke 100, ever. Now it looks like we will never drop below 108 during the summer with this device. Horrible. So you pay more for the energy efficiency of the unit, and then pay more for it being far less energy efficient than the old models. I've attached new photos. First, is the Nest saying it needs 2+ hours to get from 71 from 72 with this unit, learning that this unit is in no rush to cool the house. Second is our energy bill with the old York system, and the arrow showing the day we took it offline and started the Star Air Kontrol system that night at 11:15pm. the third bill is the change in energy usage with the new system, clearly above 100kWh every day. The last photos are the Nest usage summaries, showing the SAK system is just on all the time while the York system barely had to run since it would blast the house cold quickly and then only come back on when needed. read more

Todd from Star Air Kontrol sold us the same exact AC boards but for significantly different prices. 2 boards in march for $800 and then just recently the same 2 boards for $214. Likely the $214 was at cost but he marked his $800 up almost 300% and then gets mad for me questioning the mark up and cancels my order and says go somewhere else to buy. He is not looking to make sense of his mark up and have a customer first mind set. I can not recommend using Star Air Kontrol. This coupled with us constantly having to replace parts on their mini splits. read more

We have purchased seven units here so far since 2019: five condensers with four ceiling cassettes each and two with single air handlers each. All the units are working perfectly, except for one unit that had an issue with a controller circuit board. We called in and were redirected to support. The support line took a while to answer, but when we were connected, they worked in full with our technician and solved the problem. I will give it five stars because, aside from the time we spent on hold with support, we are very happy with the systems, and Todd always goes the extra mile to help and ensure our satisfaction. Wonder how many of these reviews were purchased? My technician talked to someone named "Todd" who referred him to "Tech Support" and nobody picked up for 2 hours. Technician had to leave for another job. I called and someone answered quickly but said he has not seen any calls coming in. How's that possible? I called later in the day and this second person was able to verify that my technician did call. But then they had a bunch of diagnostic questions that the technician could not answer because he's no longer at my house to take voltage measurements. And of course no tech support after 3:30PM PST and they don't work on the weekends so we will have to deal with the August heat for 2 more days. Maybe they don't realize they are in the Air Conditioner business. My experience has been horrible. I would avoid this company at all costs. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Terrible experience with this company. I bought an air conditioner from them and it was useless. My installer brought it back to them but the wouldn't bother to even check it out. No customer service at all. Only thing they are offering is for me to purchase another one from him but he will not take back the first one. I went to their shop after they were able to answer my questions about a 24,000 BTU mini split. Based on my research there seem to be several very similar systems available online. Their's is a 20.5 SEER unit with a Midea indoor unit and a Toshiba condenser which they make no secret of. I bought the unit and came to pick it up. They had everything in stock and helped me load it into my car. The condenser didn't fit so we had to take it out of the box and it just barely had room in my SUV. Luckily I was able to carry it standing up in my SUV. Came with everything except for a wall mount kit and I needed to buy a long line extension which they sold to me for a decent price. Todd texted me during my consideration and I was able to get his advice on a Sunday when I discovered the wall mount kit legs were too short for their condenser. There was a workaround you have to get some C channel bar and extend the legs a bit. The install is fairly straightforward. My HVAC guy has installed many brands and so he made it really easy. I was able to mount the indoor bracket and drill the drain hole ahead of time. The outdoor unit was also simple to mount with the modifications we made to the wall bracket, it took 4 guys to help me lift it up about 8 feet to where we needed it. The parts look good, the brazing looks good and the fins are gold. I don't buy the whole vitamin E thing but thought it was pretty cute. My HVAC guy evacuated the lines, then blew some nitrogen in twice for leaks and making sure we installed it the best way he could but I don't know all the details. Then it was time to turn it on. I was not ready for how cold and hard this unit blows. You can't even hear it. You can barely hear the condenser. It felt like someone left a refrigerator door open nearby. The indoor unit I can feel the cold air 45 feet away. Money well spent. Overall I'm very happy with the quality of the unit, even my HVAC guy said he was impressed. Price point was hard to beat and Todd's great service and responsiveness makes this an amazing buy. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another unit from them again. read more

Star Air Kontrol has impressed me to the point that I am writing a review before even going to their warehouse (I am going this Saturday). I am doing so because the above and beyond service that I have already received from Todd VIA email with Star Air Kontrol. Todd educated me and guided me with some simple suggestions based on my setup/needs. His suggestions made complete sense to me and at the end he is saving me money with a much better setup. I have been screwed over (not backing their own work - which was equipment chosen and installed by them, also installed a new r22 unit instead of r410a...) by 4 HVAC contractors over the 10 years I have lived in my home. I am going with mini splits because I am doing the install myself, as far as installing the air handlers, running the line sets, electrical (I already have disconnects with proper fuse sizes). I am going to have an HVAC contractor come out to do any flares on the line set, torquing the indoor and outdoor lines properly, vacuum out any moisture, do a nitrogen leak test on it, and finally add any additional refrigerant that will need to be weight out for additional line set length. I will be writing version 2 of my review, which I am sure will only be better, based on my experience and others who have already reviewed. read more

Finding an air conditioner at a good price is probably one of the harder things to do in Orange County. I've searched and searched, and finally after hours of Internet research I stumbled upon star air Kontrol. I went on their website and was a bit skeptical at first because simply, I've never heard of them. The website is nice and all, organized and neat... However, it's usually Home Depot or lowes that sell air conditioners so I was a bit shocked to see that this company had a variety of air conditioners much cheaper than almost everyone in the USA. I purchased a 12,000 BTU wall air conditioner for my home for about $300... Anywhere else I was looking upwards of $400-$500. These guys are legit and have a pretty large warehouse filled with so many types of air conditioners.
