Star Deli is a Benson classic open late and always on point! The only day they're not open is Sunday, which is always the day I remember them. Thank goodness on this uneventful Thursday I needed good and Star Deli fit perfectly. I got my classic fav the French dip. I am very tempted to get the BBQ pork sandwich. Came in here on a Saturday night at 10:50. Ended up waiting 40 minutes for my sandwich to be told they were out of ingredients for my sandwich after already waiting for 30 minutes. I understand this is not the worker's fault. He apologized multiple times and was swamped with many orders. I paid 9 dollars for this sandwich as well. Whoever schedules people and does inventory really should have had more than ONE person working on a Saturday night. I will NOT be coming here again. read more

Where from Kansas City, MO and didn't know any place to eat late night in Omaha in the Benson area. We stopped by after a show at the reverb lounge. We were hungry and the place smelled great,even from the outside. Our experience was absolutely excellent. There was one guy working the whole counter,food prep, and sales. He was amazing! I don't know how he did it, but he managed to keep all of the customers calm, laughing, and completely satisfied with the delicious food that he prepared, even though it took a while. Hands down my favorite sandwich shop in town. Quality ingredients and fresh bread in a nice environment filled with creative works of art. The French Dip is the best you will find in town. Thick, tender and juicy slices of beef on a proper baguette with quality cheese covering the entire sandwich. The au-jus took some getting used to for me, as it is homemade and not your typical au-jus you get everywhere. Now the old standby au-ju just tastes weak anymore. I have been going here for years, and I understand the talk about wait times, but honestly in recent months I have been in and out of here in five minutes every-time. I went to the waiting room to a Brother Ali and Immortal Technique show on september 21st on a friday! I bought my ticket and then preceded to Star deli. I went in and it was well lit, clean, art gallery motif. I asked the guy at the register to recommend something for me. He offered up the cubana! Which I gladly accepted. I had it on rye with all the fixings. It consisted of ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese and toasted pressed bread. I ate the sandwich while watching the night scene of benson come alive. Okay, I get it....the food takes time to get. But this isn't jimmy johns or subway. These are hands down the best sandwiches in Omaha. I work in Benson and it's my go-to lunch or dinner spot. I've never had a bad meal here. I understand it's not the best customer service in the world but that's just Benson. I had late night hunger. I wanted something healthy since it was late night so I found this place on yelp. I read the reviews, it sounded good, and it was close to home so I gave it a try. The parking stinks but that's to be expected in the Benson area. The place is decorated with art from local artists which I thought was cool. The seating was a collection of vintage tables and chairs - another nice touch. I ordered the Garden vegetarian full sandwich. I asked if the sandwich was 12 inches and the server replied, "almost." Good enough for me! I asked for extra avocado and a cup of french onion soup. I saw the soup was housemade which is ultimately why I decided to try it. I got my order to go and once it was ready, the sandwich looked so tasty I couldn't wait to get home and eat it. I could tell the sandwich was made thoughtfully (thank you!) While I waited for my order, they had free water available which was nice. When I got home, I inhaled the sandwich! It was very tasty. The french onion soup wasn't as great - it needed salt and more flavor. I will definitely be back to try the sweet potato and avocado sandwich. Definitely recommend this place! I went here November 15th for a late night snack, and I came home to find that it gave me food poisoning!! Don't go here unless you want to risk getting sick. Delicious sandwiches, but the presentation was lacking. We had Cubano sandwiches. On the plus side; nice bread, hand-carved ham and pork loin, generous portions. On the minus side; sandwich should have been sliced on the bias prior to wrapping. No trays. Just the wrapped sandwich. The French Onion soup came in a wide paper bowl with five cheese covered slices of baguettes floating on top. Regular dinner spoon, no soup spoon. Again, the presentation was lacking. A Dixie-cup bowl would have helped, as would a larger slice of French Bread and a bigger slice of cheese. read more

I stopped in before a concert and was very impressed. I had a smoked brisket and veggie slaw sandwich on french baguette. It was delicious. I don't know if it's a regular menu item or was just a special for that day, but I would definitely order it again. The meat was perfectly tender and there was a pretty good portion of veggie slaw on top. For only having 1 person working, we got our food quick. All the tables were full due to the concert and he was still able to take everyone's orders and get the food out quickly. The seating area was very clean and I enjoyed the artwork. Let me start with I am African American male. I believe it's important! I have eaten at this establishment many times because I am resident of Benson and have frequented all establishments in Benson. Tonight I ordered a soup and sandwich from star deli. I got home and a pork based soup I had never had before I had questions about when I was home I called about to the star I was hung up on. I went back, I was yelled at , questioned and abused of eating half the soup! I tipped 3 dollars. I was continually yelled at and the threatened that the police would be called when I just wanted answers about the soup! My bill we $15 dollars I ordered a sandwich which was not questioned! An establishment that employs workers that think that's exceptional! Really! Not about the food! Eat there if you want! read more

One of the best places to eat in Benson. A small sandwhich will cost you $4 and if you want twice as much it's $8. The $4 size is plenty but you'll want the $8 because it's so good. The quality of the ingredients is amazing for the price! They are open til 2 am on Friday and Saturday perfect if you've been out enjoying the bars and want some food yummy food! I'm a huge fan of independent business and good food, this place is far from a corporate clone and the food is some of the best deli style in town according to the reviews. I tried the Cuban sandwich and it was a good sub but far from a Cuban. I'm no traditionalist but a Cuban is ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard on Cuban bread (or something similar) pressed in a Sandwich press. The Cuban I had today was a ham and pork sub sandwich. It was good but far from a Cuban. I'm not sure why it had mayo on it and I mean a lot of mayo, sub some mustard and it would be better. It also wasn't pressed so I missed that buttery crisp. All in all the place rocks, great atmosphere, music and quality affordable food. I will be back but I am definitely getting the top seller. I am still eating my meal. There is a complaint on here, which mind boggles me. The service is slower than most places, however, the Long Beach Club that I had was so incredibly good I would pose naked with it. My fiance had the BLT and he said it was the best he has ever had. We have both traveled the U.S. and lived in places like New York and Baltimore and Hawaii. Star Deli sets the bar very high for quality. I will never eat at Subway again. The soup had KALE and a specialty bean and real tomatoes.... and the bread that came with was superb. The man that made our sandwiches had a fantastic memory. He didn't forget any part of our large order and he took his time perfecting the sandwich. One last thing. ... the ice cream was INCREDIBLE!!! INCREDIBLE is truly an understatement.
