Great job guy's

Wonderful service from start to finish. Great prices with knowledgeable staff. I'm beyond happy thanks Randy

Randy and his entire team did a great job redoing my backyard. We had pavers installed, new pathways laid around the house, grass removed, and new plants and rock installed. From the quoting of the job to design, to the staff he had working in our back yard, the experience was what everyone is looking for when they are looking for a company to trust their money and their home with. We were looking to complete our home with a new backyard and Randy really came through with a great design and an even better finished product. Minimal hiccups, as can be expected with any large project, were handled with professionalism and timeliness. Would definitely recommend you at least reach out to him to get a quote and give this friendly business a shot if you are in the market for landscaping work. Thanks again Randy.

We hired Randy Rogahn, Star Landscaping (license #0086897) to do a water smart conversion of our backyard. We found him on the Southern Nevada Water Authority's website from a list of contractors who've had advanced training on water smart landscape. When I first contacted I stated that I was looking for a contractor for a backyard design and installation. Randy responded quickly, seemed personable, professional, and passionate about landscape design. We spent a bit of time on the initial visit talking about my "vision" and looking at inspiration pictures. He seemed confident that he could help us achieve what we were looking for. He "sketched" a quick design on a piece of paper. I assumed it was just preliminary and that we'd go over it in more detail before he started the job a month later. Communication was excellent when we had questions about our contract, and the process with the water authority. I even appreciated that he allowed us to pay 25% down instead of the usual 50% as we were awaiting the stimulus check. Things went downhill when the job started. He didn't give us an actual start date but texted us at 6:30am on the day they were coming to ask if our gate was open. A couple hours later, he texted "what color pavers did you decide on?" He'd never shown us any options or sent me anything to look at, and we didn't even review the design. I was surprised by this as his website touts 3D design and all we got was a sloppily sketched "concept" after 15 minutes of chatting. Once the job started, communication was spotty at best. Randy asking what we wanted (plants, rock color, basically EVERY element of design) via text on very short notice continued throughout. I felt rushed to make decisions regarding things I knew very little about. On the day they started installing pavers we had a whole section completed by the afternoon. When we came home that night, all the pavers in that section were removed. Apparently his guys spent a fair amount of time that day laying pavers based on the wrong design, and had to pull them up and start over. Things got worse when it came time to choose rock. Over the phone Randy told me he forgot to include rock on to my contract. He alluded to the fact that we would help him pay for the rock but that he "...wasn't worried about profit". I wound up researching rock and opted for river rock that I saw was at Star Nursery 75 dollars a ton. When they installed the rock, I noticed a few areas seemed to be missing the weed screen. I also noticed they piled new rock on top of old rock without cleaning out the area. The old weeds were poking through the new rock. When I brought this up, Randy didn't seem concerned or apologetic for the lazy workmanship. He simply said "they will remove the old rock and put the weed screen under the window area". He texted me on rock installation day that they'd originally picked up 5 tons but fell short and were getting another 4. At the end of the day, they got another 2 tons. Randy mentioned a few times in passing that he's been doing this for 14 years so it was hard to believe that someone so experienced would be so "off" on rock measurements. When we got the final invoice, we were charged for 11 tons at $125 a ton. I questioned why I was charged $50 more per ton than what the rock cost - he replied "Well it cost me $600 to install it with three guys labor for one and ahalf days. The weed screen alone was $150 to purchase." When I signed the contract, I was confident that I was dealing with a professional who was presenting me with a comprehensive plan for the project. I mentioned before the job was over that certain areas didn't seem to have adequate weed screen. When he came to walk through with us, he assured us that weed screen was there and he didn't know what else we wanted him to do. I also brought up the concerns I had throughout the project, mainly about lack of communication and poor workmanship at points. He apologized but said he didn't want to argue, and he didn't know what else we wanted from him. Sure enough, a week after the job was complete we were already noticing grass growing through many areas of the rocks. I texted him and he said only that they'd remove the grass and place weed screen where it was missing. They removed the grass but our camera showed they were there a few minutes and there still seemed to be no new weed barrier. The moral of this very long story is that, while the overall design turned out pretty nice, we feel like we were not given the professionalism, communication, and attention to detail we expected. I don't recommend this contractor, and wish I'd done more research before hiring. I hope I can help others from making the same mistake...

Randy and Frank and they crew did wonderful jobs on our backyard. My wife love the new backyard.( Happy wife Happy life )They might be slow responses back if you have some questions but that is understandable because I knows they been busy since so many new house been build in Las Vegas. Overall we will doing business with them again and will recommend to our families.

Added some pavers and synthetic grass

Randy and his team were prompt super courteous and did a fantastic job. My wife and I are very happy with the finished product. They also did my neighbors yard which is how I found Star. Thanks again Randy.

Randy and his team did a terrific job on our back yard. We just had a new pool installed this spring, and wanted to add rock, desert plants in the ground and in our plant containers. We also bid out for a pergola from a separate company, but we felt the bid was too expensive, so we asked Randy if they did that type of work also. Randy did confirm that they do, and came back with a bid that was very reasonable. The quality did not suffer at all and we are completely happy with his work. Attached are photo's (sorry I am not the best picture taker), the plants are still kind of small right now but I'm sure they will grow and fill in over time.

He was so informative, patient, honest, and truly cared about making sure we understood every step of the process. You can tell he genuinely takes pride in what he does. We had 5 estimates and so glad we went with JJ! We have 3 cars and only way to the front door was walking up the driveway- we needed a pathway to the door. He took our idea of simple, clean and functional and turned it into reality! The entire project was scheduled quickly, and I honestly could not believe they completed everything in just 3 days! Our neighbors were shocked too! The difference is night and day. What used to be an overwhelming desert jungle is now a gorgeous, clean, peaceful space that we absolutely love. It looks even BETTER than I imagined possible. Every time we walk outside, instant smiles. The yard feels bigger, brighter, and so much more beautiful. The crew was great and worked incredibly hard! They paid attention to every detail, and completely exceeded my expectations in every possible way. If you are even thinking about redoing your yard, call Rock N Block Turf N Hardscape and ask for JJ -you will not regret it!

Within minutes of contacting Rock N Block, I had an appointment for a consultation. This impressed…read moreme because I contacted 5 different companies and only Rock N Block and one other one reached out to me in a timely manner. My backyard had never been done. It's been the same dirt lot since the house was built over a decade ago. We finally decided to get it done so our new dog could have a nice place to play, especially during the summers, where we can control the heat levels. JJ and associate came out quickly and made me feel really comfortable. There was no weird upselling (I wanted something really plain) and no fear mongering. I could tell immediately that we were going to go with Rock N Block so I cancelled my other appointment with a different company and put my deposit down right away. Within hours, JJ had the plans to me and I got the HOA paperwork started. Once that was done, I was scheduled immediately to have my yard worked on. The day of, the workers came, did a final measurement and got to work. It took 3 days but it came out exactly like I was promised and had envisioned myself. The workers were extremely friendly and self contained. They were responsible and trustworthy. They were also very concerned with my happiness. They asked me if things were looking good quite a few times. They literally made my yard perfect. I'm still looking for imperfections and cannot find them. If there were any complaints, the communication could be more but to be honest, they give information and don't feel the need to consistently remind you, which is also good. We did have a small hiccup where the workers didn't know they had to install a few other things but JJ made it right immediately and I can only be happy about that. I'd rather have the problem be solved immediately then get a phone call being told it would be done, although I can see how some people would want both. Pricing was fair in my opinion. I was told it should have been less expensive but I don't think so. The job is immaculate and the items are gorgeous with great quality. The craftsmanship means a lot to me and I would pay for it again. I wish I took some before pictures but I completely forgot to. Imagine a literal nothing of a yard. Now, it's gorgeous and I can't wait to accessorize!

The solar lights petered out quickly in the winter or after a cloudy day. I went to my trusty Yelp app and came across Las Vegas Backyards and their many five star reviews. I sent information about my project through Yelp, and I received a response the next business day to setup an estimate. The project manager was very thorough, and he explained his recommendations for the project while keeping aesthetics in mind. The estimate was right in line with what my research had told me was an average price for this type of job. I was, however, a little surprised that the project manager did not arrive with a catalog of various lighting fixture choices to peruse. He did send several photos of his recommended fixtures later that day based on our preference for something modern. Communication was quite good through a group text with all the respective players involved. The date for the install was arranged within a week or so of my inquiry. There was a slight snafu on installation day, as the fixtures we had chosen were sold out. We were sent photos of alternative choices and were able to find a contemporary design that was to our liking. The first part of the installation took about a half day with trenching, running power lines, and installing the fixtures. The second day was a quick installation of the transformer. I was happy to see they had installed a smart transformer with WiFi access and an app to set schedules. I do wish they would've gone over this ahead of time to discuss what type of transformer would be installed (again, I am glad they picked a smart model as that's exactly what I wanted). Unfortunately, one of the spotlights was found to be defective by the installer during their testing. They returned the next afternoon to replace it. Payment was handled in phases with certain percentages due at certain points in the installation. Payment is easily made online with a credit card, but unfortunately there is a surcharge for this type of payment. They do have other payment options if you want to avoid the surcharge. Now we have a wonderful, gorgeous, and very upscale looking landscape lighting setup that really increases the curb appeal! Thank you to Las Vegas backyards!

We spoke with Kalian at Advantage based on the recommendation and we were immediately impressed with her knowledge and kindness. We met with Ken the following week and he walked the property with me making suggestions. Ken definitely has a great eye for landscaping. Matt was also great, helping us on a daily basis with the logistics and giving his opinion on how to make the area shine. His prices were within reason for the scope of the project (unlike the other company we had hired, whose project/contract price was almost 3 times the estimate of the project AFTER we paid the deposit). Paco is not the ideal small business owner I'd recommend to anyone…read more I contacted him to replace my irrigation valve on Saturday 07/04/26, while the initial conversation was cordial, the end result wasn't (07/06/26). We set a date (07/06/26) for the replacement and what I thought was a fair negotiated price ($250), it really ended not being a fair price at all. Paco initially wanted $280, I negotiated with him to $250. Even at $250 he was higher than all others by $50-$100 more. I asked him if I could use my credit card, he said yes but there would be 4% surcharge. I didn't agree with that, so I asked if he could wave that, he reluctantly agreed. So, date and price was set. He texted me he was running behind on 07/06/26 and now would arrive no later than 12:30. By this time I'm seeing many red flags. I called him @ 11:46 on 07/06/26 to verify with him that he would arrive no later than 12:30 and was still intact. While confirming his 12:30 time, now he tells me 1 O'clock and blames me for his late arrival because I called to verify the time. During our conversation on the phone he kept interrupting me, talking over me, telling me I was upset that I couldn't use my credit card (furthest from the truth), and that I set the price for the job and so forth. I told him, I no longer needed his services, he was rude and not accommodating or respectful of my time and needs. Who wants to invite someone to their home after a terrible text and phone conversation, NO THANK YOU! To say the least, he wasn't given the job. Be careful who you hire people.
