I found Star Landscaping on the List of "Water Smart Contractors" on the Southern Nevada Water Authority Website. I decided to do a desert friendly landscape in my front yard. I randomly chose 5 contractors from the water smart list, and called them all. Star Landscaping had their Landscape Architect call me back within the hour. I scheduled Travis to come out the next day. I really had no idea what I wanted, luckily Travis was very knowledgeable and made plant, artificial turf and rock suggestions. He left to draw up a design and proposal, and said he would get back with me the next week. A couple of days later Travis emailed his proposal. (Three of the 5 companies I contacted gave me bids, one was for a lot more money, and one I just didn't have a good feeling about, the other 2 companies rescheduled appointments twice, so I didn't bother with them) By now I had decided to use Star Landscaping. The owner Randy came by with Travis the next week and I knew I had made the right decision- they were both great guys who seemed so capable and honest. Randy made rock and lighting suggestions, then said they would start my project within 3 weeks. And as good as his word, his guys came over and got started. He has a big crew, so everything went smoothly. Some of the things they did: removed grass, put in a new drip system for all the existing trees and new plants, laid down screen, ran electric cables for lighting, put in curbing for artificial turf, placed tons of rock of all sizes, added bushes, plants and flowers and lighting. Randy was here every day, giving directions and supervising the progress. He checked in with me daily to make sure everything was to my liking. The end result is amazing! I really didn't know desert landscaping could be so beautiful. So many neighbors have stopped by to tell me how much they love my yard. The whole experience was remarkably easy from start to finish. Star Landscaping completed our front yard, water smart conversion last week. What a difference! We have been in this house for over 15 years and thought we might miss our front lawn. Nope, we do not. It is now rocks, new plants, and pavers and we could not be happier. When we originally met with Randy, we had no idea what we wanted or what costs were involved. SNWA was rebating $5.00 per square foot, so that was a big plus for us. Randy spent quite some time with us explaining the differences in costs of rock vs pavers vs artificial turf. He provided ideas on where we could use each according to our needs. After we decided to move forward with the contract, we received renderings/models in a timely manner. We reviewed them and requested a few changes. The changes were made and send back to us in two days. (Shout out to Frank for his prompt attention). We sent these to our HOA and had the approval the next day! Unheard of from what I know about HOA's. We were scheduled for a 2/26 start date and Randy and his team showed up on time and ready to work. They did all the prep work on that date. When they left, after their shift, there was no mess left on the sidewalk or the street. The Jobe was completed on 2/29 and looks just like the renderings. We have a beautiful new paver walkway to our front door and no muss no fuss front yard that looks great. What more could we want? Well, I will tell you. We had old stucco work on the front of the house that was now visible because of all the changes. Randy had his crew some out and re-stucco and paint to match the house. Randy is a good guy. We've had our backyard finished for over a year now, and we're very happy with the quality of the work. Irrigation, lighting, turf, live plants/trees. Pergolas, pavers and all the prep work before was done per the agreed specifications. The price was fair. I must agree with SOME of Bonnie P's review concerning after contract communication, however. There were several times I had to confirm a timeframe with Randy during the installation. Now, in fairness, he and his team staying on schedule and the job was high quality...that's what's most important. It would seem he gets a little too busy with projects at different stages and, while organized internally, can sometimes drop the ball when communication is requested by the customer. All in all, nobody is perfect, and getting a quality job at a reasonable price is what's key...Randy and his team delivered on those fronts in spades. I would gladly use Star again. read more

Very pleased with the results! Randy spent time with us with the design and added some insight. He quickly sent renderings and an estimate along with a plan to submit to our HOA. as soon as it was approved he was on it! A lot goes on behind the scenes with his planning and getting his team ready, so as soon as he can, they will arrive! Work was quick and professional. I had some things that needed some tweeking and Randy came right over. He had his team come out the next day to take care of it. My suggestion: hire this team! Ask lots of questions with the design, talk about what you want to keep/ change when you get the 3D drawings. His quote came in a few thousand cheaper than others! I was very pleased with the entire process from meeting with Randy for the consultation, receiving the 3D Designs from Frank and the actual work provided by the fantastic hard-working crew. We watched how Star Landscaping did out neighbors front yard and we wanted something similar. They did an excellent job. Their bid was clear and simple; installed cost per pound of rock, installed cost per plant based on size. They did a rendering for the HOA which was approved. Randy and his team were very easy to work with and allowed changes on the fly based on the bid costs...no up charges for changes. They were always concerned on how we wanted the project to look. Initially contacted Star Landscaping just to fix irrigation issue and ended up getting our backyard done! Reasonable price , simple , perfect and got the job done in a day . No complaints.
