I specifically asked for a balayage, and the stylist said she understood. About 20 minutes in, I started noticing that she wasn't doing anything close to the balayage technique I've had done many times before. Everything was going way too fast, so I mentioned my concern. Long story short, I ended up with highlights, not a balayage. The service itself was also extremely messy. She got product on my jeans and even managed to get dye inside my ear. What upset me even more was that the bleach was left on my hair for way too long, which ended up damaging my hair and causing breakage. So not only did I leave without the balayage I asked for, I left with damaged hair. I spoke with Andrew afterward and explained how disappointed I was. He told me to call back if I wanted them to fix it. I did exactly that and left a message. I was told he would call me back, but I never heard from him. Very disappointing experience from beginning to end. If you're going here for a balayage, I would seriously reconsider. There is a big difference between balayage and highlights, and unfortunately, that difference didn't seem to be understood here. Now I'm left dealing with damaged, broken hair on top of paying for a service I didn't ask for. I definitely won't be returning.

I used to get gel manicures with Be for many years and she is great! 5 stars for her! Probably the best nail tech I've ever had. Hieu is also very good but only works limited days of the week so it's hard sometimes to schedule with her if she's booked. I've tried over 5 different nail techs for my pedicures. Every single time the polish is applied it's sloppy and uneven. It seems if you're getting a basic $29 pedicure they rush through it. I personally don't need callus treatment so I always get the basic service. They barely massage your feet or legs. Today the nail tech (Liz) didn't even clean up the cuticle area or around the nails. She clipped and quickly filed them. The polish had bubbles, was uneven and sloppy. I still tipped her $10! Perhaps they need to wear magnifying glasses so that they can see their work. Plus she was running 30 minutes late for my appointment. Months ago I had a pedicure with Derek and he did an outstanding polish job but a so-so pedicure. He didn't bother to file my nails or clean up the areas around the nail. 30 second massage on each foot. When the man working the front desk asked me if everything was good I told him no and he didn't seem to care. They also re-use their nail files and buffers on the clients. Not very sanitary. I'm at the point where I am just going to move on and find another nail salon. It's too bad because it's such a beautiful salon and most of the people there are very nice.

Nails have always been a form of self-care for me as a student. While I don't have much money to spare, my family occasionally treats me to getting them done. I usually go for bio gel nails, which I've loved in the past. However, I've repeatedly had issues with one specific worker (whom I won't name out of respect), and it's been incredibly frustrating. The last time I went, my nails started chipping within a day. This wasn't the first time this happened. On a previous visit, I politely returned the next day to have them fixed. When the receptionist asked who did my nails, I gave the name, and the worker was extremely rude--making a loud comment and even demanding I pay. The receptionist thankfully stepped in and confirmed I didn't need to since it was their mistake. Unfortunately, I ended up with the same worker again, despite thinking I'd be assigned to someone else. Once more, the experience was unpleasant. She was passive-aggressive throughout, grabbing my hands roughly, speaking loudly, and rolling her eyes when I asked to see the gel colors again. When I suggested switching to another worker if it bothered her, she insisted on continuing but remained visibly annoyed. Now, my nails feel brittle and chipped, and we paid a significant amount for a service that didn't meet expectations. This was the last straw for me. I won't keep returning to ask them to fix things or deal with unprofessional behavior. I value and respect workers, which is why I'm not naming the individual, but I can't justify coming back here anymore. I've been a customer for years, but the quality and service have declined significantly since 2019. I wish this business well and hope they hire employees who truly care about their clients. However, I'll be steering my friends and family away from this place moving forward. read more

@katilyn D Thank you for sharing your feedback about today's service. I'm also sorry that when I congratulated you, you couldn't hear me clearly because I was wearing a mask. That said, I'd like to clarify a few things. First, I did not "pull" your hand. I was holding your hand so I could actually do your nails. Unless I brought your hand closer to me, I'm not really sure how I was supposed to reach it and do your nails properly. Second, while you were sitting in the chair, I didn't make much "small talk" with you because i have enough information what you want for your nails and you were talking with your mom the entire time. However, we did have quite a bit more conversation once we were in the waxing room--and interestingly enough, no one seemed uncomfortable during that conversation. So, honestly, even now, I'm still trying to understand exactly what made you so uncomfortable. If my congratulations weren't as clear, enthusiastic, or dramatic as you expected, then perhaps when you get married for the second time, I'll make sure to congratulate you much more enthusiastically--especially after you've become a regular at the salon. And of course, if I ever have to do your nails again, I might just consider choosing a different career instead. That way, I can make sure I never have to deal with a customer quite like you again. Star Nails is not as great as everyone thinks! I came here on short notice to get ready for a red carpet event, and there were already people waiting for me, which I admit is good. Linda and Lisa are both okay workers and took little time with cleaning my cuticles and giving me massages that I specifically requested (maybe they didn't understand my English). I bled a little from my big toe because they were using a cheese grater to remove my calluses but it was a mistake and they used some liquid that crusted over the blood. I had to wear flats instead of heels because it made my big toe hurt. Somewhat skillful workers, but they don't offer quality service. They were rushing a lot but I asked the receptionist about their work schedule appointments and she said that they were free for the rest of the day, so I don't understand!! They walked up to the front desk with me and it felt a bit rude because they left as soon as they saw I had no cash on me for tips and the ATM wasn't working. It's like they don't even care about me, just my money!!! Anyway, I felt so bad about it but the receptionist with short hair was very understanding and said that it's completely fine if I didn't have money because I had good intentions. Yeah right! I was debating between a 3 & 4 star review..... I been coming here on & off for about 11 years now. I switch between this salon & Diva nails on Devonshire street. Its weird like some days are great & some days are bleh. I finally decided to do a review because it was about time. Well I got my Gel Mani ( by someone whose name I know but wont disclose) and the only slight complaint I have is that it was rushed, but I mean like super rushed and I soon realized it was because he mainly focuses on nice Acrylic nails, which is totally fine but I mean I wanted a little bit of attention on my nails too :( . Color is great but wish he spent more time on my nails, I looked at the time & it was roughly 16 minutes or so, he rushed on my cleaning of my nails , which I could have paid my 13 year old niece to do for me. The lady who did my pedi, it was more relaxing & nice. The front desk gal ( I'm guessing manager) is very kind, sweet. I do like the fact that they give you a discount if you pay cash. read more

Been here for years. They always take me as a walk in knowing I'm coming in during my lunch break. Many wonderful ladies here who work hard for so very little. They do it with humility and grace. Leoan, Mary and Hannah are excellent and many others too I just forget their lovely names. They are quick, patient and friendly. They always say hello even if they're just passing by. Their work is top notch. Today's French tip by Leoan was amazing. It was super clean and perfect. There's also a gentleman who quietly cleans every after customer. Only negative thing I can say is another man who works there. I was there once when a customer came in thinking this establishment called to get her car towed. He was exceptionally rude and disrespectful to her and continued to speak about her using foul language after she left. But putting that aside since he doesn't define the place, i do highly recommend this friendly place whose only wish is to serve. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with the customer service at this nail salon. They advertise that you get $2.00 off if you pay with cash, but the way they present it feels misleading. It's not clearly explained upfront, and it seems like customers are only told after the service or in a confusing way. Customer service should be honest and transparent, but instead it feels like they are trying to mislead people with small discounts that aren't clearly communicated. On top of that, the staff the guy at the front that makes appointments was not very helpful when I asked questions about the pricing. A business should value its customers and be clear about costs from the beginning. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I hope they improve their communication and customer service so other customers aren't confused or misled. read more

I keep trying to like this shop and I can't. Their attitudes are poor. If you don't upgrade to their expensive pedicures you might as well go somewhere else it goes downhill from there. I have no idea who did my pedicure as she had the worst attitude ever. It was so quick I have no idea if it was good or not 20 minutes start to finish. She left never came back to help me with my shoes. Someone else actually saw that I was ready to leave and assisted me. I had someone named Mary for my manicure she was nice but the polish is on so thick, just doesn't look professional. There are so many shops around you would think that they would want the business, they just don't care. I will never be back. read more

I think I've been coming here for about 7 years now, my last review for this place was a great review back in 2012. Since the guy that would do my acrylics left, I didn't really see a purpose in going back. Recently, I decided to go and get a full set and a pedicure. Kathy did my acrylics and cut every single finger in the process. The pedicure was done fine, but THEY DO NOT CLEAN THEIR TUBS before doing their pedicures. Kinda turned me off. I went back for a fill but did not want Kathy, therefor, Tracy did my nails and she did a fantastic job on them. Very clean, gentle, and had a great final look. The most horrible nail salon I have ever gone to!!! I neglected to read the bad revues and thought I would give it a try. A couple of days away from my beach vacation! I asked this lady to file my toe nail a certain way, she starts talking about me with her friends then goes off and files my toe nail so hard she made a really bad cut on my toe!!! I was new to the area and a friend referred me to Star Nails. I can't say that I've had a bad experience there but there has never been a particularly good experience either. They raised prices when they moved to the new location but I can't say that I see any improvement in quality or service. This visit today will be my last regular visit. I came in for a very simple, natural-looking set, just a soft white-pink. Unfortunately, the results were really disappointing. The Gel-X tips were too large for my nails and started falling off within days. My natural nails were over-filed, leaving them thin, weak, and sore. The set didn't even last a full week, and overall the quality of the work just wasn't good. I left with damaged nails and a lot of regret. read more

I am giving two stars because my nails were done horribly. My nails look like I missed painting some of the nail. The lady who did my nails was going super fast because she had an appointment that was waiting and I felt that she did not spend quality time on my nails. I will never go to another nail salon ever again! Kenny gets you in and out within 20-30 minutes. Although he is fast he is very good and funny! Never once had my nail chipped lifted or broke off. I really don't have to come for like 3 weeks but I go every 2 weeks cause i like to change colors. Highly recommend for full sets, fills and pedicures! read more

Although I've had bad experiences in the past I love my nails this time! Tammy is the best and she is so nice. She does my nails and has a interesting conversations with me. They are all very hard working and accommodating. The only bad part is they are very busy, so you might have to wait a while even if you have an appointment. read more

I don't recommend there are way better places with better quality in their end results! The lady asked for a tip before like it was a requirement it felted forced! Of course I tip but don't like to be asked before I get a chance to offer. I won't be back again. Nails are coming off day 2 avoid this place!

Alright whatever, but the next time I came for a pedicure, it was fine the lady was a bit rough and didn't do the polish very well, I could've done it better myself, but its the next day now and I'm almost 99% sure I have an ingrown toe nail. I have never gotten an ingrown toenail but my toe hurts really bad and I searched it and it looks about right. I don't know what the lady did if they used un clean tools on my or if she filled my sidewall too much, but this is absurd. I can't believe a place would actually run like this. Now I have to deal with this, do not go here.
