I walked into Star Salon for the first time yesterday, and was so pleased with the warm welcome by Sonia, and my nail service which was removal of gels from my nail and manicure. I will look no further as she was excellent, so I scheduled a full service for my next visit with her. The very best experience. I won't go anywhere else. I love it here. I have what they call "high standards" for my nails. They do great work here. They are very friendly and kind and helpful. I didn't mind being asked to pay for the service ahead of time, but after I gave the money the woman helping me stared at me with a frown and said that most people pay the tip first, then continued to stare at me until I gave her a tip. I was in a hurry and didn't want her to do a bad job if I didn't. The atmosphere was very unfriendly. I always tip, but it is not something that should ever be demanded prior to doing the job. So I've never done a review for beauty stuff cuz I usually go to restaurants but let's try this lol I went here to get my nails done for my junior prom because I was recommended this place by my friends at school. I will have to say the lady who was working her magic on me was like my mom lol. She was so nice and sweet (minus the scary part of my mom haha) and we had a lovely conversation about the randomist things. I actually asked if I could have my boutineer for my date to be set in their refrigerator while I was there and they were really nice to have gone out of their way to make sure they could help me. I got a manicure and pedicure, my toes painted (the lady did a really nice design on my big toe hahaha) and french tip and it only costed $40. I didn't know how much to tip her but I seemed pretty reasonable to give her 20% since I was on a budget. I am happy with the job I got on my nails but I didnt care for their tactics on price. I got a fill and a manicure with black tips and white line. The fill is suppose to be 15 and she said the manicure 5. So, I paid with a 50 and she said "manicure, 25. I give you 20 back. So I don't understand why the price jumped an extra 5 and then didnt care for how brazen she was to ask for a five dollar tip, which is what I give to people who do my nails. After trying almost all the nail salons in Milton I have to say my mom and I are willing to drive the extra 15 minutes to go anywhere else. The people here do an okay job on your nails but heaven forbid that someone other than you pays for it. My mom paid to have my nails done here as a reward for going above and beyond with helping out. When they realized that my mom was paying they all but yelled at me for letting her pay. Everytime we have gone there the staff has been rude and inconsiderate. I recently moved to the south sound and have tried a couple of places here. My experience here was ok.. They did a great job with painting my toes and nails, but I felt they rushed a little and I had to go home and remove excess paint as well as smooth rough fingernail tips. My cuticles are a little dry as well.. not the best job, but the staff is friendly and the shop is very clean. So, I may try them one more time... Everyone has a bad day. read more

I will not be returning to this nail salon again. They are very rude and charge you more than the original price is. Me and my friends went in to get our nails done and we all got a manicure. 2 of us were charged 25 and my other friend was charged 30 and she got the same thing we did. I dont understand how that makes any sense? I also think its absolutely disgusting that they dont clean there tools that they use on other people. I also will say, its very unprofessional to tell your customers that they need to tip you. I tip people that deserve to be tipped. If you are disrespectful to me, you dont get a tip. Star Nails in Edgewood: Their quality of nail service is dependent on the gal that's available. It's hit or miss. They are working fast and sometimes can be rude. There is no spa setting of comfort. My nails look awful. However they've done wonderful in the past. If they could realize ladies go in to be pampered and want to feel beautiful upon leaving. There was 2 of us waiting and they proceed to ask us to come back because they have appointments at 9:15am. It was 9;15 and thier appointments were not even there, they were late or didn't show up! I've been to this nail salon a handful of times and each time was a good experience. The most recent visit was on a Sunday in the afternoon. It was a little busy. All three nail techs that were there were working with someone when I arrived. Waited about 20 min for someone to help me but was worth the wait. Went in several times over the past couple years for lip and chin wax. It was hit of miss, but MORE than once, the technician let the wax get SO hot that the last 3 applications/spots of the process burnt my chin so bad that it literally SCABBED over and my face looked horrendous. The place I like to go double booked us and I needed to get my shellac redone on my nails so they would look nice at my son's college graduation. We went here because it was local and they let us walk-in. I know they have a lot of loyal customers, but it was just ok compared to other strip mall nail salons. The ladies who worked there weren't the greatest communicators with us as customers, but they sure enjoyed talking to each other. A LOT. That always makes me feel slightly uncomfortable because I think they are saying mean things about me. The shellac was the same price I pay elsewhere, but the manicure was hurried and the shellac started chipping before I even made it to the following weekend, so I kept my hands in my pocket for the graduation. read more

Love this salon !! They keep it very clean, I have observed their early Monday morning major all over full salon scrub down. Has always been clean. Wait time is not horrible. Drop in at most salons at peak time can be a drag. This is not drive thru. But it is worth the drive for me. Vivian is the most recent to do my nails. She is kind and so very thorough. My gel nails last much longer from this salon. All of these wonderful women have at one time or another taken care of my nails and do an amazing job. Most important for me is that it lasts. I don't have time to be a frequent flyer. I have NEVER had an unkind rude or inconsiderate experience here or over charged. I have been to three other salons in the near area and have had been charged higher fee or had marginal service and not impressed with the hygiene of their salons in comparison. When I come in and say I want a FULL SET of nails but I want Shellac that means- I want fake nails and a shellac polish. Not a manicure. That also means, I understand that costs extra. Horrible service. Worst customer service ever. Ended up adding additional charges that was never asked for in the first place. They will try to confuse you by throwing numbers around and when your ready to pay it ends up being more than what was discussed. We tried to explain why we were being charged so much and they got mad at is for bringing it up. Then proceeded to talk about us in front of other customers to blatantly be disrespectful. I've been going to Star for about 4-5 months. The first few times my nails turned out great. But for the past 2 months (about 4 visits) the quality and service has continually declined with each appointment. The attention to detail flew out the window at some time during those months. For example...my visit 2 weeks ago I had one nail that the acrylic had cracked and another that lifted. About a 1/4 of the way through my fill I noticed she was ignoring those troubled spots I asked if those things were fixable..of course she said "No." I then asked if she was going to fix them. And rudely she said that each would be $3. I have never had an experience at a nail salon where the Manicurist wouldn't automatically tell me my fill would cost extra because she needed to something. It seems pretty obvious most women that get manicures would want it to look how it's supposed to! I don't understand why she wouldn't say anything, it made me feel as if she didn't care, and wanted to get to the next client. That same visit my Mom had a fill, Shellac, and her eyebrows waxed. the Shellac cracked literally within a half hour, and A LOT of wax was left on her brow. My Mom and I had an appointment yesterday. (I had to wait a half hour because they had just started on a walk-in) I needed a completely new set put on because EVERY nail had lifted after only two weeks. (My white tips usually last three visits) Again, they protested about me wanting them to put on a new set! When it was almost time to pay, she told us the total. A few minutes later she asked how my Mom would be paying (by debit card) She raised the price by $10, and gave a vague answer, that made no sense as to why it was now more expensive (something about having to fix something?? I have no idea LOL) In light of our recent experiences, my Mom decided to tip 15% instead of her normal 20-25%. In front of a semi-busy room she told my Mom "You not tip enough." When did gratuity become mandatory? A monetary way of saying "Thank you, you've gone above and beyond!?" As a bartender, I realize the importance of gratuity. But, I would NEVER expect a tip, let alone DEMAND one! I will be taking my business elsewhere, and suggest you do as well... unless you want to gamble getting poor service, and sub par quality as punishment for not tipping as much as they dictate! read more

I had been a long time customer of Star Nails and am usually reasonably satisfied. However, I have always been frustrated with their booking and wait times. On this occasion, I made an appt. to have my nails done 1 week in advance for a special event that was taking place the same evening. Upon arriving, I could see that they were busy. I asked if I would be done by 530pm as I needed to get to my event. They apologized and advised me that it could not be done. They were running behind and too busy. Apparently, having an appt means nothing. They take walk-ins without regard to any scheduled appointments. I will not be going back. Very poor customer service. read more

Ladies that work here are very nice! Love how they do eyebrows! Don't try and force an arch that isn't there!!! Pedicures are great! Wasn't 100% satisfied with my manicure as the paint came off a little over a week later and it was shellac. Lady did stay past closing to finish up everything I wanted! Overall great place! While i was getting my nails done i noticed several things that made me want to never return. First, they dont clean there clippers after they use on others. I went in with 2 of my friends and one of my friends got her nails done before me. When she was done i went to the lady she was with and she didnt clean the cuticle clippers after she used them on my friend. Her skin was still on the clippers when she used them on me!!! Thats absolutely disgusting!! Second, they answer phone calls while there doing there nail. Now, this wouldnt usually bother me because i understand that its a small business and theres only a few people qho work here but, the girl i was with kept getting nail polish all over my fingers while she was on the phone. Lastly, i find it extremely rude to ask me to tip you. Of course, i always tip people when they treat me right and do a good job but i dont think its right to ask your customers for a tip. read more
