Hits the spot after a hard workout. This is not your typical boba place. Not at all. In fact when you first walk in it looks more like the set up of a cross between a shaved-ice place and a Jamba Juice; they've got an array of fresh fruits and other sweet derivatives (taro paste, anyone?) up front and a row of blenders in the back. I paid 3.25 (including tax; so much cheaper and so much better than the Teahouse I usually frequent on S. Shepherd! But I guess I pay for the seating space/studying experience there) for a REAL taro drink with boba, which was the perfect amount of ratio of sweetness, substantially creamy taro texture (to let me pretend this is more than just a drink), and tender boba balls. They blended the taro paste right before my eyes, which was so gratifying. I'm sure that they do the same with their fruit-flavored drinks; none of that powdered/syrupy Tapioca Express crap! I left the shop thoroughly satisfied and finished my drink ENTIRELY too quickly for my own good. But honestly, that drink= instant satiation. I went from starving to a Chinatown-inspired lull of lazy contentment (which could only be upset by the frustration in braving the traffic around there on a Saturday afternoon!) I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Milk Tea. 99% of the time I always get the Milk Tea with boba and/or mango pudding. Every now and then I would get the grass jelly or egg pudding. I really like how I can taste more of the tea than milk. Other places make it too milky, powdery, and/or sweet. They have another location in the Cafe 101 shopping center, but I preferred this new location in the Tan Tan area. Sometimes when I get it from the other location, I feel like my Milk Tea is watered down. NO BUENO! I recently ventured out and tried their Fresh Fruit Tea. It was a bit pricey, but I think it was worth it nonetheless. It's comparable to the one at Juicebox, maybe even better! (depending on my taste buds haha) The mango in the fruit tea is really delicious and sweet! Kiwi, pineapple, and strawberry are also included in the tea. I will always love this place for their milk tea with tapioca & egg pudding. They have increased their prices up ($0.25), but no complaints here. The last time I went here, I was fiending tofu pudding, so I ordered it. I was disappointed at the bland taste and it seemed like it was in the slow cooker wayyy too long. You were my first. In your 3 months of absence, I had been subjected to settle for other tapioca houses that just didn't cut it. Don't ever be absent from my life again. Please. After 10+ years, Star Snow Ice decided to move and not only that but did a major upgrade as far as space and decor. Star Now ice is located in the plaza where Don's Cafe and next to a doctor's office (where old Suzhi Teahouse was). There is so much more space in the new location, plenty of tables and chairs, great lighting. Product is just as tasty and refreshing as ever. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it right?) On this trip to the new location, I one of my favorites, the avocado shake with tapioca ($3.50). It was just as tasty, cool, and creamy, My other fav is the classic - tapioca milk tea. ($2.75). This milk tea is more tea that it is milk in my opinion. I LOVE it. Some people opt for a more creamy texture and taste, but it suits my tastebuds just fine. I was SOOOOO deprived for 3 months! This is STILL my favorite tapioca place to go to and in my opinion is still on the cheaper end for bubble tea houses as its competitors for the size drink you get. Any of their drinks with tapioca pearls are always great; this time I had a Kiwi Tapioca Pearl and my mom had a Papaya with Rainbow Jelly. The Kiwi drink was extremely fresh and not too sweet, but you could tell that they used fresh ingredients. Same with the papaya. I was a little bit disappointed with the tapioca pearls - they were a bit too chewy and sticky. My mom's rainbow jelly was slightly better but overall I would have preferred getting these drinks without any additions. The place is usually very crowded so go at an odd hour (it will still have lots of people) or just prepare to wait and hunt for a table. read more

Never really liked the tapioca places at this location, so I didn't think to come try out Star Snow Ice when they opened up (even though I've tried them at their old sites) Thankfully, my cousin brought me a couple weeks ago, and I've been back ever since! I've even bought myself a watermelon and strawberries to mimic their fresh fruit mix... but without boba... it's just not the same =( Whole family came last night and got a smorgasbord of drinks. I like the smoothies more than the milk tea here, but if you want to try something even healthier and delicious, try the mix vegetable juice. After 8-12 hours, it also helps me feel significantly lighter. I have been coming here for the milk tea with tapioca since the original one opened 15+ years ago in the Welcome shopping center. I was so excited to see this place open again at this new location. Much better location to get in and out fast for that milk tea craving. The best milk tea with tapioca (more tea than milk just how I like it). The fruit tea (green tea with chunks of mango, pineapple, watermelon, kiwi and strawberry) here has more variety of fruits and tastes better than Juice Box plus the staff here is more pleasant. read more

I used to come here quite often. The service is always fast. They used to be cash only but few months ago started to accept credit cards with a minimum of either 5 or 10 dollars (i don't remember)... This place has good avocado snow ice. They make it with avocado and ice cream. The spicy chicken is also good. But the Thai tea, which is one of my favorite drinks, to order is lacking & wasn't that tasty! I've tried their iced coffee before too. It was ok. I honestly like their food better than their drinks Its usually busy during lunch and dinner time and it's a hassle and at times stressful to get to Chinatown with traffic. To be frank, I would say that you cannot find any restaurants that have price as low as this place. I know their foods at not as good as other restaurants but like hell i would say no with that price. If you are a broke student and want to take your bf/gf out for a decent diner this would be the place. Their drinks would be an ok. Get the carrot juice it is the best out of all the drinks there. This place is not cash only. They do take credit cards but they will charge you 50 cents extra which is no big deal. The customer service over is good. I never had a single problem with the restaurant in 5 years. The only bad thing is that this place can be very crowded and there may not be enough sitting for your party. Great place to go if your paying for a lot of people or if your on a budget. The drinks are a cheap but still good to drink. There are two locations in Bellaire /Beltway area. This is it for the boba fix. The fruit slushies are my favorites here. The tapioca always taste nice and fresh to me and the staff is friendly. I have been going there since 1997, my first encounter with this place. Fell totally in love with the tapioca. The teas, where do I even start... Fresh and natural as they can be. Made from real tea leafs, not some powder stuff. Specially the milk tea, man!! My fav will always be their green tea with lemon. I drink one every day. Cannot get any bettter. I have been taking every friend that I know and boy do they love tapioca after! Prices are awesome. The service has always been great, they always know what I like. I guess they know me by now, specially the spanish lady, she has been there since they opened I think, so long she even understands most orders in Chinese he! he! I always leave them a tip. I only ever get one thing here, but it is my favorite of that thing, that thing being the strawberry mango smoothie with tapioca. They use real fruits instead of gross syrups like some other places, and it really keeps me coming back! I have also tasted the blueberry banana and the strawberry banana and they're both good. We have tried almost every known smoothie places in the metro Houston, and this is our favorite place. This is only place that we know of making with real fruits/veggies like our favorite taro smoothie with tapioca. Other places use taro power. They have pretty much every fresh display choices for you to see and select. Oh they also make the own tapioca pearls. I asked after I heard about all the horrible stories what they put in those already made dried tapioca you could buy in the store. Been going here since I was 10 and still am! I always get the fruit tea and it's LITERALLY the most refreshing and fresh fruit tea out there. I've tried multiple fruit teas from different boba places but they all got some sorta syrups in it and it just doesn't taste fresh like stars snow ice. Drinks are great and cheap! Food items are cheap and decent. I would recommend ordering their spicy chicken nugget dish ($5.75) if I remember correctly. It's basically popcorn chicken with rice. They do give you a good amount of food. You have to stand in line and order with the cashier. I used to go here all the time since their food is so cheap but after seeing how the people who work in the back handle my food, I was grossed out. I am very disappointed with this visit and I will NOT be returning. I was just here with my bf and buddies, got 3 drinks, a shaved ice and chicken nuggets. After awhile we decided to get 3 veggie juices. My buddy went up to order but was told they already clean the juicer and will not serve anymore juice tonight, we then settled for something else. 2 mins later a large group of people came in and immediately I see the lady start taking out bagged veggies and fruits ready to make juice. OH HECK NO YOU DID NOT JUST DO ME LIKE THAT... Went up to the lady for explanation and so she said, "they ordered 7 of them". So our order of 3 was not good enough but 7 orders made it okay to use the juicer. Like this was not enough she added " if your friend INSISTED I would've made the juice for you". In other words it was my friend's fault for being too nice and did not speak firmly. To be fair, she did apologize for this unacceptable behavior but you know what boss lady? The new location is definitely smaller than the old place with only a few tables so it's probably a good place to get something to go. Parking in front of the store is pretty cramped, too. So I've just been on this strawberry smoothie craze for the past two weeks now, and I definitely think this one is the best I've tasted. Other places add cream vs ice cream. It just tastes very fresh and overall good...and all for $3.25. You definitely can't beat that! I never knew what the hype was about this strawberry shake since people used to tell me 10 years ago that it was good. Now I understand. Bring cash, of course! This place doesn't seem so Chinese but more Californian. The jasmine green tea made me feel really weird (spacey and uncoordinated) inside but that could have been the boba. The black tea is better but it kind of does taste powder-like but I don't know if that is the case for sure. The egg pudding tastes rather light or even too bland. Other teahouses have better tasting teas and bobas. Staff seem to be grouchy but they aren't lazy. read more

Nothing like a bowl of shaved ice on a hot summer's day, and the topping chioces only up the yummy factor . You can add fruit, puddings, jellies, etc. to the ice along with brown sugar and condensed milk drizzled on top. This is by far the best place for FRESH fruit smoothies (No Artificially flavored syrups!!!) which is a MUST for me as I am NOT a fan of the "fake stuff". My family and I have been customers of this establishment since I can remember almost 20yrs! I have tried a lot of the "New Spots" that have popped up over the years but like I said I am not a fan of the fake flavors been used now. And I love how you can also let them know light or heavy on the liquid sugar sweetener depending on your preference. My all time favorite is the STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE WITH TAPIOCA OR SOMETIMES w some of the jellies . I also enjoy my mom's all time favorite the Avocado smoothie with Tapioca. And the fruit bowl with ice cream O.M.G its too die for. After they moved from the first location they added appetizers and bites A very Nice seating area and Love the CLEAN bathrooms. I have been going to this place for a very long time, the ladies are always fast and polite. But, last night the male server was very rude and haughty. The customer in front of me left the cash register to get something for a long time, he was just standing there, not doing anything for several minutes. II asked him to take my money since my 3 drinks are made and ready, but he refused and his attitude was extremely nasty. The lady boss was always nice and asked about my family every time she saw me me because I gave them tons of business over the last 10 years.
