Greetings, We are relatively new transplants to the Coastal border of NC/SC & 'stumbled' into Tavern on the recommendation of a neighbor who knew we have an avid appreciation for live music. Lemme just say we were 'blown away' by the talent! We happened to go there on a Monday night after doing some shopping in North Myrtle & wanted a relaxing atmosphere where we could eat something good & hopefully hear some good live music. As mentioned, we were new to the area ... & lemme just say ... Leroy Harper & his All Stars are a phenomenal music experience! Mr Harper is a genius & a legacy in his own right & how he attracts some of the best musicians around remains a mystery to me. You really need to experience this in order to understand what I mean! Hats off to the Tavern owner/management/staff members pretty much for the same reason! The food? We like seafood but didn't know anything about the 'Calabash' style & now we love as well! The staff members were friendly, welcoming, eager to accommodate ... but please just be aware the place gets crowded at times, understandably so, cuz it's a great place to experience. It should also be noted that folks come from pretty far away, mostly for the music I think? We consider ourselves very fortunate to have Tavern as our local hangout read more

I've been coming to Star Tavern for years and love the local venue for music and the staff has been good even with changes and challenges with staffing. I would suggest going for great free music, atmosphere and drinks . They continue to fall short in the food department. I have gotten the tacos twice in the last few months and both times very disappointed . The meat for both the chicken and beef tacos was cold , dry and no taco flavor at all. The toppings of cheese, lettuce and tomatoes fresh but the coldness and lack of flavor made the tacos very hard to eat. I know it's hard to keep good cooks and feel they are trying to improve the food with some recent menu changes . I will continue to support this local gem and hope they can improve the food quality and consistency. read more

Fun and friendly neighborhood bar with great music, welcoming crowd, attentive bar staff, cold drinks and awesome food! We shared nachos that were plentiful and delicious! Yes, we had had a few drinks but our DD had some too and we ended up ordering three more orders. The bartender pours heavy, so be careful. They had live music. They serve delicious food. This is a little gem of a place in Little River. A hidden sapphire! The food is so tasty for a reasonable price. We wanted the "meat and 2" and he suggested the fried pork chops and the zucchini because the latter was fresh and local. We come here often and are never disappointed. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I would give 0 stars if I could. We just placed our first order there through door dash. When the order got here, we were missing one of our dinners. We called and called no answer. Finally after 20 mins someone picked up. They argued with us about our order and was telling us we were wrong that we weren't charged for that missing dinner. This has for the last four years been my favorite locals place. Great bar atmosphere. Live music is awesome. Food was always great but just went there tonight after not being here in a few months and the food was so different. The hushpuppies were dry and burnt, the gravy too thick, the reaper sauce not as hot, the wings barely covered in sauce the mac and cheese was buttered noodles with cheese on top. I was so saddened by this. They changed the menu a bit and I'm not sure if this was the reason but whatever it is im so upset. I feel like I may not come back. Food came out at all different times. They had no lettuce for salads. Sigh, I hope they read this and go back to their excellent service and food from the past. I hope it was just an off night but I think they r focusing more on the bands coming in then the food now. Such a shame. read more

The hospitality it's self gives this place 5 stars. All local, no tourists. Food is good too. I recommend the crab bites appetizer.

Definitely a drink place and not a food spot. Head across the street to coopers or Parson's table for food, but would absolutely recommend this place for entertainment. read more

This place sets back off 17 next to Tobys gifts & across from Parsons Table. We have seen many businesses come & go at this location so I think people are afraid to try the new businesses that go in there. Some friends of friends stopped in there one day as they say "for shits & giggles" & was very surprised with what they offered. "Blue Plate Specials" which was choice of meat & 3 sides including beverage, so we decided to meet our friends there. Me & my girlfriend got the burger with hand cut french fries. The burgers were huge, juicy & cooked to order. We were a bit disappointed in the amount of fries we got, we got about 10 fries each, def not enough so we ordered a basket, which then consisted of maybe 20 fries, you get more fries in a small fry from McDonalds! They need to give more of a helping of fries, especially since they are really good. Our husbands got the Chicken bog, mashed potatoes, hush puppies, corn, came with rolls & honey butter. They really liked the bog but asked for a side of gravy to pour over the bog which they said made it less dry but ended up making it much better. Their meal including drink was $8.95! Great place. It is a small pub with great food and live music. Staff was friendly and food was good. Been here twice in a week and have enjoyed it enough to become a regular while I am in town. The first time I had fried pork chops, mash potatoes, and fried okra. It was really good. The next time I got the Carolina Reaper wings and a burger. Wings are good size and have decent bite but aren't stupid hot. Music was classic rock and well done. Only negative is the liquor selection is tiny with most being well or low grade stuff. We came here back in March. Had seen it driving by many times but decided this was the night to check it out. We both got burgers at the bar, which were awesome, and the service was good. Music however was a "jam band"/ house band in which the restaurant owner plays guitar in. Y'all it was great. And we are music snobs! Just good atmosphere. Not smoky, great food and great music. Probably ok with our kids during the day in a booth but we will save this for date nights. read more

Last night was Last Minute Jesus (funny story behind the name according to our super friendly bartender), and they were on fire! Star Tavern is nothing fancy, but there is nothing wrong with that! Instead, it's a small, intimate, comfy venue. Cold beer, shots, and a menu I look forward to trying next time we visit -- which will be very, very soon! read more

Second time at Star Tavern and very disappointed this time around. The bartender, Laurie, served one beer and brought burger without silverware or napkin and never returned. She apparently did not have a clue when I inquired about their happy hour or beer menu. Below average beer selection anyway. Giving one star because of the server and beer choices. read more

Only joint in town with live music 7 nights a week. No cover. 1/2 pound burgers on the char-broiler thingie are note-worthy. Wings rock. Prime rib cheese steak made me bite my tongue one night. Cool customers. Staff that cares. Bands...wow. The bands! read more
