Hidden Starbucks in an otherwise empty looking building. With all the construction around it, you'd think it was closed, but it's actually a bit of a hidden gem. It's one of the few places in the heart of the city where you can reliably grab a coffee and find a seat at the same time. Barista Anna was very friendly and kept the line moving quickly. As an added bonus, they offer free refills if you stay in the café, which is something I haven't seen at other locations. A great place to take a break downtown. read more

I don't go into Starbucks too often but was looking for a quick coffee......that itself was fine, but was wanting to use the bathroom and while there were two bathrooms labeled as reserved for customers, the employees wouldn't allow customers to use one of the bathrooms as they said one was for employees only which is not what the signage says....a few people had to wait for one bathroom to open up so the extra bathroom would have been helpful had it not been blocked by the staff....the doors had coded locks on them so you couldn't just go in a use the other bathroom. Half of the workers were nice but what rubbed me in the wrong way completely was when I was looking at a new display because it was on the wall next to where where I was sitting of the new hello kitty collection, I asked one of the workers if this is new and she responded to me very nicely that it comes out the next day. I was recently in Chicago for vacation with some girlfriends and this Starbucks was right around the corner from our hotel. Bright, clean, organized, not overly crowded with tables and shelves. We were greeted quickly and ordered our drinks. The team is hustling to make drinks. A lot of orders are coming in mobile so it took a few minutes to get ours but there's plenty of standing room. Plus one barista did nothing but organize and call out the orders. Super efficient! Newly renovated since the summer and it looks so nice and spacious now! Much brighter than before and more room to get around. Keep in mind there is a separate entrance towards the back off Hubbard if you need wheelchair access or have a stroller. There's steps in the entrance off Clark. This place has Nitro cold brew which IMO is much better than the regular cold brews. Generally, the orders are accurate and are made pretty quickly. They are also open pretty extended hours so you can get coffee whenever you need to! read more

This is my most frequent Starbucks! We are basically regulars here. My partner and I use the Starbucks app and order our drinks about 5-8 minutes prior to arriving at the store. This helps us skip the long lines during the morning frenzy in the heart of River North. We usually get a venti iced vanilla latte and iced coffee. It's about $8-10 total if my partner gets a bagel. The quality of our drinks always meet our expectations - delicious and definitely wakes us up. The staff is always very friendly. We've had a few minor issues and they were very prompt with their service recovery. One time, we spilled one of our coffees during a busy morning. They were very helpful and didn't show an ounce of annoyance. I know sometimes at other places, employees might get irritated when that happens. In this case, they helped clean it up and made us a new drink. It can get super busy here, so I would suggest using the mobile app! We are big fans! read more

I arrived around 10 AM and it wasn't too busy. I was expecting a line. The service was great and super fast. I didn't stand around too long waiting on 2 drinks. Clean and roomy bathrooms! The patio seating was great! Lots of outdoor seating and shade from the sun. There wasn't too much traffic noise to make it impossible to have a conversation. It's been over two years since my last review, hence, since the barista showed me the hand. Since then, I've still come to this Starbucks, ahem, 'my Starbucks', almost on a weekly basis, and I have a newfound respect for said barista. As I mentioned before, this location is busier than Best Buy on Black Friday. There are zillions of offices within a two block radius and magically we all seem to start work at the same time. Which means this place gets stupid crowded started around 7:30am and doesn't stop until well after 10am. The good samaritan in me needs to show a little compassion for the frazzled barista, and so I am. Especially when ding dongs like my coworker come in with me and order a double drip, three shot, little ice, caramel drizzled, sugar free, half and half on top venti-sized nonsense. I would get irritated, too. I get annoyed just listening to him take more than 20 seconds to order. The moral to this story- everyone has a bad day, and yeah it sucks if you're on the receiving end of it, but just deal with it if it's at your go-to spot. read more

I hate to say it, but sometimes it's NICE to go to Starbucks just because they're so predictable. It's like when you're on a road trip and you eat dinner at some Burger King in the middle of nowhere: at least you know exactly what to expect. The seating is comfortable and spread out enough so that you're not sitting on top of the person next to you. The patrons and baristas are relaxed and quiet -- even the cops who frequent the place. The view out the tall windows is great, and it seems as though whoever designed this particular store tried to preserve the beauty of the existing space. The patio seating in the summer is nice as well, if you don't mind that there's a porno shop across the street (I don't). I'm pretty sure the barista that was working on the night I visited was named Mr. PushyPants. I was meeting a couple people for a show at Baton Lounge and needed a quick caffeine fix. As soon as I walk in he yells "we're closing in less than 30 minutes!!!" Ok well obviously I was dressed for a night out, not just to hang out at Starbucks. And last time I checked, most able bodied people can finish a cup of coffee or tea in less than 10 minutes. Or perhaps I was getting my drink to go. I've told this story before - I don't drink coffee, I'm at a disadvantage in the wee hours of the morn, but merrily smacking people awake after lunch. Since I don't drink Starbucks' main fare, I only go for the food. I think everyone on the planet has already been to a Starbucks (and most people have their drink orders down to a science), so this post is really just a shout out for their speed and service. I haven't been to a Starbucks that works faster and harder than this one. Everything keeps running smoothly even during the busiest of times. The pick up counter can get a little chaotic because of how small the area around it is, but if you push through the crowd there's usually some room in the back, at the part of the counter closer to the bathrooms. Also, a couple people have complained about the attitudes of the employees. From what I've seen is that all the cashiers are uber-nice, but the order takers and makers are pretty rushed and don't pay much attention to you. For how good the service is, I don't have a problem. So if you need a quick cup of joe, this is your place. read more

I am pretty content as a Starbucks frequenter, but my review is for this particular location. The service here is horrendous. In the summer I only order black unsweetened iced tea. Easy - Peasy. Recently it's always been interesting to see what will be delivered with this order. An iced coffee? Sure. A hot black tea on an 90 degree day? Why not? The best part is the holier than though attitude I don't recall ordering. The ridiculous mantra of "I'm a barista and I'm going to gossip about you in front of your face because you are making me correct your order" stance is yawnable especially if you don't have your preferred caffeine fix. Advice: Don't act like it's MY fault you are constantly confusing orders and more importantly don't patronize me. Get it together! When in Chicago, you will find a Starbucks on every corner. Which was the case this past week when we were headed to the museum campus and wanted a drink before catching the bus. Great location, great service...however very small and not enough tables to go around. There are tables outside, which are comfortable but they are hidden so you may not see them. Don't try to go to the bathroom here either, there is a single restroom and there is always a line. But overall their coffee is great, and that's all that matters! read more

I go to Starbucks...a lot. More than I like to admit. This one has to work on their customer service. Morning, noon or night, they are a little less than friendly, always in a hurry whether there are people waiting in line or not. They have yet to get an order right or be non judgmental about what and how I order. Impatience is abundant at this location and if it were not the one closest to me I would go elsewhere. Added bonus, they do have a drive through, and ample outdoor seating, more than most which is why they get the extra star for the 3 star. read more

Say what you will about the corporate giant that is Starbucks. I don't care. I love my peppermint hot chocolate in the fall/winter, and the iced Americano in the spring/summer. Also, this particular store sells breakfast sandwiches. I highly recommend the Eggs Florentine breakfast sandwich, if you are into that sort of thing. I like to pick them up on my way to work in the a.m. The people are here are really friendly, and they always make my drink of choice just right. They even gave me a free latte one time! Granted, it was an extra latte that someone didn't want, but still...they passed it onto me. It's the little things that count! I had the worst experience at this location. They had two employees and neither of them was trained. The cashier got a simple order of iced coffee wrong and the barista ignored 'easy on the ice' and left quarter of the cup empty.
