I stopped into Blue Bottle Coffee while walking around the city and overall thought it was fine, just not particularly memorable. The shop itself has that very California modern tech aesthetic, clean lines, minimal design, and a polished atmosphere. It is a nice space to sit for a bit. As for the coffee, it was okay, but nothing really stood out. It tasted more like a solid, generic cup of coffee rather than something distinctive or memorable, especially considering the reputation and price point. Overall, not a bad stop by any means, but probably closer to a 3.5 star experience for me if Yelp allowed half stars.
First time trying it. The flavor of coffee was absolutely incredible. The only thing was the wait for a double espresso. I can understand it can be a bit busy downtown. If you haven't tried the coffee, definitely give it a shot!
We live a block away and have fallen into the habit of getting lattes here most mornings. I prefer local independent spots like Soloway in Lincoln Park, from both a coffee bean and brewing perspective, but I must admit this Blue Bottle location is pretty great. They get slammed as you'd expect in the mornings from 8-10ish, but still take their time to properly pour your drinks; so many other corporate places (and frankly, lesser independents) would just dump milk into lattes and chuck them out at customers. My favorite non seasonal drink here is their hot mocha with whole milk...I'm not usually a mocha person but Blue Bottle's is very satisfying.
Blue bottle is amazing!! Love their smooth coffee, pour overs, lattes and almond croissants. They offer order ahead and you can sit inside or outside. Small little shop. Minimalist ambiance.
After having breakfast in the area, we stopped by here for a coffee break before we start our morning. As this is a touristy part of Chicago, there was a huge line out the door so we assumed it must be great coffee. This coffee shop felt a bit underwhelming for the crowd size it attracts. I got the Winter Latte, which I believe is a seasonal drink that is only available during the winter months. It is a latte that has juniper infused and pink peppercorn dusted on top. While visually it looked nice, the "wintery" additions were a bit strange. The best imagery I can give is this is akin to drinking a cup of coffee infused with pine tree essence and spicy cracked pepper on top. Definitely worked on keeping my awake in the morning, but it was not all that tasty to me. Keep in mind, the price is also on the higher end at $8.50 for a large 16oz. As for the coffee beans they use, I definitely had better. I would say that in a pinch, this coffee shop might do. But if there is a huge line, I would say it is a better idea to head to another coffee shop nearby.
Convenient location in the touristy part of the town so the line can be long at times. It is cozy ambiance with very clean and simple designs inside, some seatings available but it can be a tight space with folks sitting and people waiting in line. There are also few small tables outside for outdoor seating. I've tried the flat white, cappuccino and iced NOLA in the various visits, the coffee is pretty solid. Free water is available (self-serve). There are simple food / pastry selections too if you are looking for a quick bite. If you enjoy your drink/food on site, putting away used mug and plates is also self-serve. Best part, it is doggy friendly!
Cute place! Super convent area and staff were super helpful and kind. The coffee was mediocre, I probably wouldn't bring a friend here from out of town!
I love blue bottle coffee, and will seek it as my primary source of caffeine if I'm in a city that has a location nearby. Overall, I like this location because it has the usual blue bottle ambiance of stark decor, High ceilings, and good music. I've been here twice now, the staff are great, and the offerings are good as usual. My issues are is that there is very minimal seating, which is occupied by people with their laptops almost never becomes available for those that would like to have a 15 to 20 minute moment to enjoy their coffee indoors, I also wish that it would not take up to 15 minutes to grab ones coffee. It seems like this location is rather slow compared to blue bottles. I've been to both in California in New York.
After finding out that there was no indoor seating at the previous place. We went looking for a nice cafe to sit and relax in. Luckily we found blue bottle and it was the perfect spot for us to have a nice breakfast. I was surprised to see a Swedish cardamom bun which I absolutely love. I wanted to try something new so I got the lavender yuzu latte. I could taste the floral notes but not really any yuzu and the coffee tasted watered down. I'm sure if I got a regular latte it would've been better. I do appreciate that they use paper cups for all their drinks as well!
Needed a pick me up and so we got matcha and a cortado from Blue Bottle Coffee. My uncle liked his cortado, the matcha was actually close to undrinkable. It was just watery and had little to no flavor. So maybe they're better with coffees rather than matcha/tea?
Small store with limited seating. During the morning rush I only saw two employees so they seem to be understaffed. But the employees really hustle- taking orders and making the coffee. Thus, expect a line, a long slow line. Don't come here if you're in a time pinch. Five stars for food and coffee. They have a decent, simple selection of savory and sweet item. Just enough on the menu for variety but not so much to make your head spin at the choices. I love their pastries- the croissants, scones, and cookies are all excellent.

That said, it's a nice spot for a quick stop if you're already in the area and want something better than your usual chain coffee. A bit of a wait, but worth it for a good cup and that signature Blue Bottle flavor.

Blue Bottle Coffee sits at the base of the famed Tribune Tower just off of Michigan Avenue. It is a small, quaint, but bright coffee shop that a global feel via their menu. When I visit Chicago, I usually stay in this area, so always pop in for a coffee at some point during my trip. This latest trip, they were highlighting their Kyoto style espresso drinks, and of course, I had to indulge. I went with an Iced Vanilla Bean Shakerato. It was sweet, but slightly bitter with a hint of the vanilla bean. It was tasty, not my favorite iced espresso I have ever gotten, but it did its thing in the moment! I hung around at first, sitting at the window watching Chicago happen for a few moments, then took my drink and hit Michigan Avenue myself. There is seating, both indoors and outdoors, but it is limited, so you may have to share space with your fellow coffee lovers. While I did not partake, they do offer a small variety of pastries, baked goods, and other breakfast sandwiches/meals. Service was decent. I initially was asking questions about the Kyoto style of coffee, but the barista just took my questions as an order and kept things moving. I went with it at that point, as there were folks behind me. Overall, cool little coffee shop in a stellar location. Certainly on the rotation when I visit the city. read more
Passing thru Chicago and we were craving coffee, finally got to try Blue Bottle Coffee (never tried the ones near home as I am an out of state visitor), and i was neither amazed nor disappointed by the coffee. Echoing what other reviewers have mentioned- line takes a while, a bit hot inside during our summer visit, coffee is okay/nothing remarkable or particular to write home about. Wait time could have been better Think the person taking the order needs someone to help pour out the cold brew behind them, that seemed like it backed up the cashier, when the 2 baristas were standing there and just chatting, waiting for cashier to hand off the xyz drinks to be finished. Odd flow of operations and by NO means is this any of the employees faults as they are doing the best they can, it's moreso for corporate to figure out a different flow of operations to maximize/optimize efficiency read more

I got 2 drinks at this location, the large shakerato and small iced matcha. The shakerato was on the sweet side, so if I recommend asking for less sweet if that something you're worried about. Matcha was decent but pretty milky flavored. The drinks were okay, but for the price I can't really justify it. The large shakerato was over $10 and matcha was a few bucks less. read more
For my exam victory, I decided to head over to the "Blue Bottle Coffee" since I already placed myself in the downtown area. I have seen some YouTubers recommend their NOLA and certainly got me curious. The venue was quite small, with a large communal table, a couple of 2-person seating and, and then the rest were high chairs against the windows facing out. Most people were able to hang out in either the patio outside or chill at the plaza where they occasionally would have vendors during the market days. The NOLA came with oatmilk as the default. I was pleasantly surprised but most of the time one would need to request it when ordering. In addition, I saw kouign-amann in the pastry shelf. Score! K-A began to get noticed because I had one the first time at another cafe and had another "really good one" in a different neighborhood cafe. Kouign-amann at the Blue Bottle Coffee was delectable, yet I thought the iced NOLA should remain the spotlight. I normally don't drink my coffee with any sweetner, but I will come back for the NOLA and try new pastries. The location is extremely prime for the tourists and the people who work or live nearby. I say check out Blue Bottle Coffee, give it a try, and let me know what you think! read more
This place was such a great ambiance to study and enjoy the scenery. I got the Nola shakerato and it was surprisingly good. It was sweet and creamy which I absolutely loved. I recommend gettin g here early because they have seats on both sides once you step in but gets crowded. I liked the view from the window and it gave me a change of scenery to study. read more

While a chain, and some may say slightly overpriced, it still delivers some of the best coffee. I am partial to the Iced Nola, but the others aren't bad either. The location is a little out of the way, but am pretty sure they are catering to UChicago. The space itself is very small and hardly ever has open seats, so don't expect to pick this as a place to study or hangout. read more

I had a disappointing experience with the service here. I ordered three drinks: the NOLA with vanilla foam, NOLA Float, and a matcha latte. The NOLA with vanilla foam came out first, followed by the matcha latte a few minutes later. However, the NOLA Float never arrived. After seeing people who ordered after me receive their drinks, I followed up with the barista, who claimed she had already served it to me. I explained that I only received the NOLA with vanilla foam and the matcha latte, but not the Float. The barista brought someone else over, but neither seemed to believe me. Whether my order was missed or someone else took it, I didn't receive my drink. They could have went back to check my order to see if they missed charging me for it and I would have been happy to pay for the missing drink, but they didn't. Instead, they reluctantly made the NOLA Float and handed it to me with a visible attitude. I didn't appreciate being treated like I was trying to scam them for a coffee. Despite the service issues, I enjoyed the NOLA Float, though it is pricey at $9. The NOLA with vanilla foam was good and not too sweet. However, the matcha latte was very disappointing--it was too milky and lacked enough matcha flavor. Ambiance is okay, wish they had more seating. read more
Chic little place right in the middle of a beautiful plaza. The interior setup reminds me a bit of one of hip clinic from 70s scifi. Biggest plus is the coffee variety. In addition to standard items they have specialty coffees and brews for the discerning pallette, assuming they get your order right. I think developing the habit of reading back an order would improve service. That and some outlets (or at least USB charge points) would bump this up to a good coffee shop. read more
Tucked away at the bottom of The Chicago Tribune Tower is Blue Bottle Coffee. I spotted it while checking out DuSalle Bridge and the Chicago River. Of course I had to go order because Blue Bottle is consistently one of the best coffees on the market. It did not disappoint. The staff have the ordering & brewing & delivery down to a fine art. Lots of bags of coffee to buy also. Great vibe in here. Such a treat to be able to walk in here & get an outstanding coffee. If you are a big coffee fan like I am, do not miss Blue Bottle!! read more

I had been wanting to go to a Blue Bottle Coffee location for the longest time, but it seems that all the Chicago locations are in areas that have very stressful parking situations. I was in the area for an event and saw that finally - there was a Blue Bottle Coffee within walking distance! I excitedly sped walked to the door. I believe this location is the smaller one in Chicago. It was quite crowded, with a small line and the few tables already occupied. I decided to order a single origin pour over and the Bay Breakfast Sandwich. The single origin pour over is a light-medium roast with hints of fruit, brown sugar, and caramel. It was so smooth and velvety. Definitely worth the wait! The Bay Breakfast Sandwich, named after their hometown in the Bay was quite delicious and satisfying as well! An organic english muffin housed organic eggs, cheese, chives, and house made chili sauce. I will be completely honest, I think the chili sauce definitely elevated what may have been a "basic breakfast sandwich (that I would definitely reorder). Overall, I my expectations of Blue Bottle Coffee were not just met, but surpassed! I cannot wait to go again! read more
