It's challenging... Having lunch plans in Waikiki I thought that I'd be a great chance to complete my challenge that Starbucks offers through their app for bonus stars which can be use for free food, drinks and even merchandise. I was just one visit away from achieving this and to save time as this Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center location is very close to my lunch plans worked out perfectly. Knowing this I had prepared myself by bringing my own personal cup which does give you bonus stars and ten cents discount as well and keeps my drink from spilling for easy transport. This location is quite small...so small that there's seating is available but just outside but I was lucky to have found a seat for just a moment but know that the staff is friendly and efficient so that I got my challenge done and got on my way. Service is always great! That isn't the problem. Their food quality has dropped significantly. They're using products that are GMO and cheaper. I still went their for their chai until recently. They now use something that has no flavor, no spice, nothing. And they want you to add their chemicals and sugars to flavor it to your taste. I've tried it and was hugely disappointed. I've been to this location a few times. The baristas are always friendly. This is at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. If you're kama'aina and spend $10 at this shopping center you can get three hours of free parking. Take your receipt to the customer service center and they will validate your parking for you. They serve all the same items as the other Starbucks. I was in here around Christmas and brought my reusable red cup. The cashier asked where I got my cup as they were out as soon as they opened. I asked if I could do a grande frappe in my reusable red cup and the manager on duty said I absolutely could. That's what I ordered along with a hot latte. This location is super tiny but is in a high volume spot in the mall. I placed a mobile order early this morning and it took about half an hour to get. There was a ton of people waiting for orders but the staff remained cool under pressure, and the girl handing out orders was so apologetic. There were about four employees total, three behind the bar and one handing out orders. They have a loud speaker to announce orders that are ready, but obviously not all orders will get called out due to volume. They did announce that they were backed up a half hour, and I honestly understand due to the number of people that kept lining up. Like most Starbucks in Waikiki there is a perpetual line and this one is no different. The line moved pretty quickly, and then you wait for your order to be filled. I would say we waited about 10 minutes in line to place the order and another 15 to get the order. The reason for 4 stars is the convenient location and the quality of the food and coffee. The banana bread was moist and very flavorful. The blueberry muffin was sweet and moist, but not too moist. The wife liked her latte and the little one and I shared an orange juice ($3.95 for a small container). The place was hopping but they should be used to it in the morning. The drink was wrong but the good news is they were happy to remake it. The quality control at this lication had some challenges but their second attempt was much better. On one of our many walks during the pandemic to stay healthy and get fresh air, I love to stop by a Starbucks to grab an iced tea. I use the app and figure out what the most convenient locations are, so I end up trying them all. On a recent walk I finally ordered from this one, one that I've been nearby hundreds of times over the years. It's located at the end of Royal Hawaiian Center on Lewers. They have outdoor seating, which would be a nice place to people watch after things get back to normal. The store itself is small, it's mostly just the counter to grab things to-go. Prices are in line with all other Waikiki locations. One standout was the super friendly baristas, clearly happy to chat with customers and say hello to my pup. Worst service ever. If I can give a negative star I would. Two of the employees yesterday morning were rude and very unfriendly. However, one of them, the barista was very sweet. They made mistakes on my order including a very soggy wet sandwich and when I returned them, they gave me an attitude.
