Been going to Starbucks for 30 years. Today was the first day I walked out empty-handed. Ordered a dark roast coffee and they said they didn't have it available. Asked if they could do a pour over and they said no, meaning they had the coffee but wouldn't make it. I thought Starbucks would make me anything I wanted. Apparently that's not true at this location. I don't know what the store manager is thinking. I have always had a very good experience with every Starbucks I've ever been to except this one. I'm glad to see Starbucks is back to normal to pre-pandemic activities with bar seating and tables returning back to normal. Of course, with all businesses and restaurants they are short staffed with only about two to three people working at a time. One person at the register and one to two people on the drink line. But mobile ordering does save time and they make their drinks at a quick pace. It felt great to see it back to its days filled with students studying and doing schoolwork in Starbucks. While seeing the tourists, Waikiki employees and other professionals come in to get their drinks quickly and leave. I came in because I was running errands in the area, it's been hot and humid in Hawaii lately. So it's a great way to get a drink and stay hydrated! For early morning coffee choices, I really enjoy drinking their Starbucks Reserve Nitro Cold Brew, Sweet Cream Cold Brew and Iced Coffee with Milk as Grande with light ice. Their coffees are really strong, since I don't drink much caffeine products. So I restrict coffee drinks to morning only unless I purposely want to be up all night until the next morning. But for afternoon and evening drinks, I like their refreshers such as the Pink Drink; Matcha Green Tea Latte; and Iced Teas such as Green Tea Lemonade, Black Tea Lemonade, Guava Black Tea Lemonade and others that I usually get in Grande to Venti sizes. I'm usually the cold drinker person, I don't usually get hot drinks unless it's "winter" for peppermint mocha latte or hot chocolate. These drinks still have caffeine or very little amounts in them, but I can drink them and go to bed at a reasonable time, any time of day that I drink them. They've always given me excellent customer service! The cashier helped me picked drink and answer questions about the new drinks on the menu when I didn't have my cellphone with me at the time. They have a wide selection of Hawaii Starbucks merchandise at this store from Hawaii Starbucks "Been There" Series mugs to Starbuck Reserve Hawaii merch. It was relaxing, just to sit in air conditioning and enjoy my drink! Thank you for the delicious drinks! Thank you for the excellent customer service! I would recommend this as it's the only Reserve bar on the island but also for convenience if you're in the area as well. read more

I always knew this store was here I just never knew it was a reserve til last week. I didn't know what a reserve store was til a couple years ago. My friends add me into so many diff fb groups that I get sucked into way too many things that no one should be interested in! So there's a bunch of people that obsess over Starbucks merch. I'm not one of them because I neither have the space or the funds. I contribute to other peoples habits. I have girlfriends abroad and so we can kind of swap merch and its all fun until you realize you've spent thousands of dollars on stuff and shipping lol. I digress! I originally came to check out Starbucks Reserve items. Mugs, tumblers, notebooks and such. I found lots of cool things that not only sport the "R" but also "HNL" for Honolulu. Which you can only get here, or on eBay for a hefty price lol. Since I brought my 2 younger littles, they wanted something to munch on. After a bit of bickering they decided on two round cheese snacks and classic bantam bagels. Within the 15 minutes we browsed and waited for our order, 2 outsiders came in for water. If you know Waikiki, you'll know the type. With covid lingering around, the tables and chairs inside are not available. Outside I believe people were able to use those. With the outsiders visit, the staff needed to remind them multiple times for both of them (not together) to keep their mask on. I didn't order anything for myself only because I already had my lot of caffeine for the day. I really hope to visit again to try something different and just to have it from a Reserve, but I might have to hold off til there's a vaccine available. Waikiki seems too risky for me rn. Who knows if tourists are quarantining and the other crowd is just not considerate at all. Employees were great though. So, overall I like the store but not the crowd. read more

Honolulu has a Starbucks Reserve coffee bar and it's in Waikiki! The difference between a Starbucks and Starbucks Reserve? For starters, it is marked by the image of a Star and the letter "R". The interior design is a bit swankier, too, with hues of golden browns and muted greys. Reserve drinks are prepared in black cups and clear reusable plastic cups with the Star + R, too! A Reserve is supplied by a Starbucks Roastery (Chicago, Seattle, Shanghai, Milan, New York, or Tokyo), which is the brand's premium roast variety; the rarest, most extraordinary coffee Starbucks has to offer. But, do not panic, the Reserve coffee bar also offers the entire regular Starbucks food and beverage menu in the usual white/green recyclable cups. As of May 7, 2020, although the Yelp App says the store is closed, I am happy to report they are open for business and social distancing is in full effect. Current hours are M-F 5:30am-5:00pm, Sat 6:30am-5:00pm, Sun 6:30am-2pm. The cafe area is completely closed off to customers. Patrons must also wear a mask. I'm a collector of Starbucks mugs, tumblers, etc., so a couple of the HNL ceramic demi mugs in the window found its way in a bag to take home. ;-) Once things are safe for this store to fully open, be sure to check out the the awesome mural by Hawaii based artist, Kris Goto. Quality/Quantity - I drink way too much coffee, yet I can not tell the difference between good coffee and great coffee. Higher end coffees here but this was way too soon for my second cup today. There are a lot of good coffee shops in Honolulu but this Starbucks branch is different from other Starbucks since it's a reserve- not the special roasters like in Seattle, Tokyo or Chicago. But they have some specialty drinks avail that is not available at other Starbucks store. They also some limited Starbucks collector tumblers and mugs. I really like the type of drinks sold at Starbucks Reserves, and those sold here are definitely included. Fortunately while in Hawaii, my family was staying about a block away from here, so I was able to introduce my siblings to the options that the Reserve had (surprisingly, my Starbucks-obsessed brother didn't even know what a Starbucks Reserve was, so I really had to put him on). I got the Hazelnut Bianco Latte and it was made quick (which I appreciated because around 8am, this place is PACKED). The drink was creamy and made fresh. As I walked into this Starbucks, I quickly realized this was a different kind of Starbucks. I spoke to a barista and he explained it was a Starbucks Reserve Bar and told me how it was different than other Starbucks. I wanted a "normal" beverage but was very interested in how this location was different and quite unique. In addition, it was very close to my hotel. I really liked how this location was decorated and to see the large variety of tumblers, mugs and merchandise. For those that like to collect merchandise, this is a great store to do that. If you want to try a reserve blend or something different, this is the place. I enjoyed my iced mocha and my son also enjoyed his iced white mocha. Already the day did not start off well with the debacle of Heavenly restaurant. We came here after of being mistreated. However, this whole Starbucks experience turned out redemptive. We felt so much better entering through these doors. We got a venti green tea latte for free (the staff made an extra one), I got my oatmeal, and the staff worked pretty quickly to fulfill our orders. Even though I've done it a few times in the past, I have to agree - there isn't a ton of value to be had from reviewing a Starbucks. Not to say that it's entirely useless; after all, there could always be something worth noting about a specific location. Like checking out the original Starbucks in Seattle or detailing the worst one you've ever been to. Or, in this case, your first visit to a Starbucks Reserve Bar! Sure, you could argue that it's just a nicer (and pricier) Starbucks, but it was still OH SO GOOD! Now, to be entirely honest, we probably wouldn't have come here if not for the fact that it's located on the ground floor of the hotel we were staying at. After all, it's not like the Yelp page listed it as a "Starbucks Reserve". However, once we saw the signature logo (a star over an "R") and stepped inside, I was stoked to finally get the chance to try one of their "premium" outposts! Featuring small batch brewing methods, coffee flights, and international beans over the likes of frappuccinos, smoothies, and giant tanks of house coffee blends, Starbucks Reserve Bars answer to higher end competitors like Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia. Wanting to try something more unique to where we were, I decided to get their 100% KONA BLEND ($6), which is brewed in a sort of reverse French press and only available at this particular Reserve Bar. Besides how it came in a sleek, sexy black cup, this truly was an impressive cup of coffee. Not only was the flavor bold and robust, but it had the perfect consistency - not super watery, not at all bitter, and not a single burnt/charred note to it. You know those Folgers commercials where the "best part of waking up, is Folgers in your cup"? Take those exact sentiments, but sub in a cup full of this Kona blend to it. YUM! If there was one negative to my overall experience here, it's the regret I still have for not buying something to bring back home, whether it be a Starbucks Reserve Bar mug/tumbler or a bag of Kona beans/grounds. It may have been kind of touristy, as well as a bit pricey, but having some of that Kona blend waiting for me in the kitchen every morning sure would make getting up in the morning for a whole lot easier. This is a review of the store during June 2021. I came in on a Sunday morning at 8 to a packed store. The line management had gotten a little out of hand, but the store makes an attempt to separate those who had mobile ordered with those who are not re ordering in person. Note that the plastic Starbucks reserve cups are only provided with reserve drinks. The store had ample numbers of baristas around but all looked overwhelmed but doing their best to manage. I attempted to wait in line for a bit but ended up placing a mobile order just out of convenience (and I would highly suggest doing so). Overall, the reserve line is usually held for their more premium offerings. This store seems to be an attempt at going the extra mile, with high ceilings and nice decorations, but functions still closer to their regular service. This isn't necessarily a knock on the store so much as a circumstance of being located in a very busy area of Waikiki. read more

Oh how I love Starbucks reserve! This location was very convenient in Waikiki just a short walk from the beach and most hotels. 100% worth the walk to this Starbucks over the others that are (non reserve) scattered around Waikiki shopping centers. We tried this location multiple times in our week in Hawaii and it was always pleasant. We tried some of the Reserve Bar only options like a flight of different reserve beans brewed on Clover machines. We also tried a unique shaken espresso drink and their reserve nitro cold brews. Everything we tried and every employee interaction we had was wonderful. Lines always moved quickly and service was handled well across the board. The only reason it's not a five star is due to: 1. The number of mistakes in drink orders we experienced. I had maybe 3 different times I had to have something remade due to a mistake in the way it was rang up. There's many similar variations to the cold brews in particular at this location, and that seemed to have caused most of the mixups. 2. The atmosphere was stunted a bit by a large number of cardboard boxes that took up most of the room behind the reserve bar. That and the lack of seating made the store feel less special than it should. Overall, we LOVED it and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a place to go and a GREAT cup of coffee with options you won't find at a standard Starbucks. read more

Why did this reserve have to be under our hotel....I came here every morning while I was in Hawaii to get my coffee fix. I think I came here so often that even those working there remembered my name and my order. If you wanted starbucks souvenirs this is the place to go. I also like how nice every employee was because they gave me recommendations. The first time I went there, I didn't know what I wanted so I ordered this hot drink. The person who took my order came up to me 3 minutes with the hazelnut bianco latte and had me try it. . . I WAS HOOKED. Craving this coffee again while typing up this review I tell you. Amazing place to get souvenirs for the family and friends, but come early as supplies run out quickly! Many times we've come around 830ish and they had already started cleaning their reserve drink machines - cannot order reserve drinks past 845. We ended up getting regular coffee which was pretty good still. I was happy to see the variety of cups, mugs and tumblers compared to the Starbucks in target. My only advice is to try and come early if you want a taste of the reserve drinks such as Kona coffee or spiced ginger cold brew! Update - came in the morning around 8 am for the Kona coffee. I thought it was actually really good. Even thought about buying the deoxidizing canister for a couple of ground beans! Morning line went by quick although it looked intimidatingly long at first. I've been here a few times over the past 2 years and each time, my experience was always one of those, "Wasn't the best, but I'll give them another try next time. Hopefully it's better" experiences. As other people already mentioned, this is the only Reserve Bar on Oahu and I think even in the state. I normally go to normal Starbucks locations in Waikiki and the Kahala Drive-Thru and every time, the service and quality control is always top notch. But this last visit finally drove me to review this location. I've been to the grand opening of the Starbucks Reserve in Meguro, Tokyo, and that was an experience to remember. The building is grand, the drinks were beautifully crafted, and the service was what you'd expect from Starbucks. So my expectations were already set high. At this Waikiki location, the menu was the standard menu with the special seasonal drinks just like the other Starbucks. Unless you need to ask for a separate menu, or even ask what sets them apart, I don't see any difference to a normal location. The first visit, I remember the barista mentioning the espresso was different, but that's all. You get a different kind of cup too if that matters depending on your drink lol. It is a beautiful location with high ceilings, but it's small and currently closed for service indoors. I've always wanted to like this place so much, but have never had a good experience. 4th time's the charm? Also, the pictures at the bottom are not from here. Minus a star for no parking available! But I guess if you're doing a staycation or if you're having a lunch or dinner around Waikiki then this is a easy place for you to go to! It's located on kuhio Avenue right next to Hyatt centric and below Nordstrom rack. It is the only Starbucks reserve on the island. What's nice about this place is that you get a reusable cup if you order the reserve beverages. My go to drink is the cold brew but they also have other fancy drinks that is syphoned. They also sell special merchandise with the reserve logo on it. I really wanted to get some but I think I'd wait for a double star day to buy one. The service here is really friendly and patient. The set up is just a little different but it's very trendy. If you need to go to the restroom- it's actually in the hotel on the lobby floor. The setup is kinda weird as the sinks are unisex and not inside of the restroom so I'm assuming the door handles are pretty gross. read more

The local Waikiki coffee shops are decent, BUT I got tired of buying 16oz local coffee that I finish in a few mins, I needed a Venti to sip on. Starbucks Reserve is the upscale version of Starbucks. While you can still get some of the usual Starbucks drinks the Reserve menu is much fancier. They serve coffee brew flights, nitro, pour over, and siphon coffee. And the coffee specials change regularly. We tried the dark chocolate mocha and haupia nitro coffees. Both were delicious, rich in flavor, and mildly sweet. The coffee flavors were definitely the stars. The Reserve cups are also different as they are more narrow, have a black star on the side, a black lid, and black straw. The interior also feels more high end. The Reserve bar was full as were all of the tables. This is definitely a popular place in Waikiki. The baristas here are very well trained and efficient. Despite the very long line, we got our drinks in no time. Parking here is tough as it is in Waikiki. While it's not a convenient location to pop in and get a coffee (unless you were already staying in Waikiki), I would stop by if in the area. This was one of the only coffee shops open in the mornings when I was jet lagged and woke up super early before work (~5am). There have been so many days where the shop would randomly open at 8 instead of 5 and it's kind of a guessing game whether or not they'd be open. For the most part, I always just mobile order my coffee (tall iced coffee, nonfat milk & splenda) when I'm leaving my apartment and by the time I get there (5 min walk), a lot of the time it still isn't ready. read more

My husband and I stopped in specifically because they advertise that they brew pour over, and being avid coffee drinkers we are always on the look out for a good pour over. Upon ordering, the barista asked if we had tried their "clover" machine and we both stated we didn't want to try and would just prefer a pour over coffee. He seemed very disgruntled with us but we paid and went to wait for our coffee. Once we got our coffee it was very obviously not pour over as the sticker literally said "clover" on it. If you advertise that you serve pour over (and we saw them make it when we walked by yesterday) then when people ask for it, it shouldn't be an issue. This is the only Starbucks Reserve Cafe in Hawaii. This is a series of larger stores that specialize in rare coffee blends and production methods. If you're a coffee fan, be sure to go to the reserve bar specifically and check out the menu. They have cold brew, nitro, and other methods not found in regular stores. They also have flights of different coffees and the same coffees made in different ways; this is a great option to try more in smaller sizes. Prices are comparable with other locations; everything is easily seen on the app. They also have a line of Reserve merchandise for purchase including bagged coffee. There's some negatives here. It's crowded and cramped. There are too many people sitting and doing work hogging tables to come and have an experience. The Reserve area of the bar is misleading as it appears it's for people who want to do coffee tastings, but are treated like any other seat. Because this is a high tourist area, often there isn't a single seat with many being used by non-customers. An improvement would be having dedicated seating areas for coffee tastings only. The restroom is also an issue, they don't have one. If you have to go while staying a while, you better have someone else watch your stuff. They really should change this place to the standard Starbucks since 80% of their reserve menu wasn't even available. JACK working the register on 9/28 was extremely RUDE and UNHELPFUL. I get that it's 7am, but giving customers attitude when they aren't aware that you don't have any of the ingredients for the espresso reserve is really unnecessary. Work on your customer service skills, its not your customer's fault that you don't have the ingredients. Perhaps communicate that upfront or put up signs. Looking at other reviews, it seems he's been an a-hole since day 1. read more

I've been meaning to break my Starbucks addiction and today's experience has finally done it. Every day, I order a venti iced chai w/ almond milk via the mobile app at this Starbucks Reserve. The location hasn't actually been a "reserve" since Covid, and has become quite ghetto with sticky surfaces, and 1-2 homeless people hanging out in the A/C & man-handling the products for sale. But I WFH so it gives me the opportunity to stretch my legs & give my eyes a screen break. It costs $6.54, so by the end of the month, it adds up. Most of the time the chai is concentrated at the bottom, so I swirl it around as I walk back to my apartment & eventually I taste the chai. Today, when I got home, I realized there was no chai in it. I basically paid $6.54 for a venti iced almond milk. I called the store and they offered to give me a refund. But honestly this was the bad experience I needed to break the habit. For the record, the long-time staff at this location is great, hard-working, efficient, and polite. read more

I like to try Starbuck Reserves whenever I get the chance to see if there is anything special. I tried one of the cold brews which was fine, can't complain about it. It just didn't taste unique. However, the place is very aesthetically pleasing and probably would consider it a tourist trap but it definitely makes good business where they are located. read more
