Perfect day for a quick stop in between errands & surprisingly great, outstanding customer service at this location! The staff were so friendly, greeted you as soon as you entered and the Iced Americano I order was on point! Strong, bold and full of expresso chocolate-caramel depth and flavor....something that's very rare or a hit or miss at most SB locations around the DMV....between getting good customer "and" actually a bomb drink. It's either one or the other....and sometimes a "no-go" on both. Not the case today at this location, to say the least. KUDOS to the staff and team at this location. I totally enjoyed my break from the busy Saturday, weekend rush hour traffic trying to take care of errands, and adding a smile (pep in my step) from the my visit at the ratchet Walmart next door!....that place can definitely test one's patience!! lol. But, sorry, I digress.....Super nice staff and really cool vibe-interior, and great service/drinks from what I can tell during brief my time spent here. Definitely will be back if I'm on this side of town again!

Parking is challenging at peak times. The selection of baked goods is varied and fresh. The line to buy items can get long. There's a decent-sized space to "eat-in", should you want. The sweet potato/chili/pistachio bialy is quite a creation, really like it, zings big time. I've never seen that flavor combo in a bialy before and hope they keep making it. The gingerbread with meyer lemon glaze has a very deep ginger flavor that's quite memorable. Not as keen about the breads. The community sandwich loaf is too plain for me and the sourdough breads are tame.

The parking lot is crowded and a bit of a mess. Coming on a weekend meant waiting in line, and it was not a speedy line. The selection was interesting, but they were struggling to keep up with demand. I ordered the last piece of multiple styles of baked goods, which I suspect was upsetting for the people behind me but which was a decision that worked out well for the recipients of my haul. The loaf was richly sour and the butter I got with it tasted cultured, the other pastries and things I tried didn't quite leave the same impression. Maybe coming at a less busy time yields a better selection.

I got #19 which is the combo of 2 meats and 2 veggies: doro wat, yebag tibbs, collard greens and lentils. I was hoping it would be a little spicy but it wasn't. A Masterclass in Spice and Soul at Shagga…read more If you are looking for an Ethiopian dining experience that balances traditional warmth with culinary precision, Shagga Coffee and Restaurant is a must-visit. My recent meal there was a testament to why this spot remains a local favorite for comfort food with a kick. The Main Event: Spicy Chicken, curry's potatoes and Chickpeas The star of the table was the spicy chicken and chickpeas. The chicken was tender, having clearly absorbed the complex, earthy notes of a well-developed berbere spice blend. The addition of chickpeas provided a wonderful textural contrast--creamy and hearty--making every scoop with the injera feel substantial and deeply satisfying. Perfectly Paired Sides Accompanying the main were the curry potatoes with carrots, which were a standout in their own right. Often, potatoes in a platter can be an afterthought, but these were perfectly soft without being mushy, carrying a vibrant turmeric-forward curry flavor that offered a mild, aromatic reprieve from the heat of the chicken. The Beverage Balance To wash it all down: * The Ginger Ale: A crisp, bubbly palate cleanser that cut through the richness of the legumes and spices perfectly. * The Coffee: You cannot go to a place named "Shagga Coffee" and skip the brew. The strong coffee was the definitive highlight of the finish--bold, dark, and incredibly fragrant, reminiscent of a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. It provided the perfect caffeinated punch to round out a heavy, flavorful meal. Service was quality though only one person was there to serve the entire venue. More staff came as time progressed. The ambiance was that of a quaint jazzy vibe that is nestled on then edge of downtown hyattsville md hustle. Almost entirely dark wood grade with wood furniture almost as dark and bold as the coffee. The coffee was strong, stronger despite me adding 5 cream and sugar. The bold flavor kept me awake in my 2 hour drive home. The Verdict Shagga succeeds because it doesn't cut corners. From the depth of their spice blends to the robust strength of their beans, it's a soulful experience that leaves you feeling both full and invigorated.

Somehow, I had only been to this place during the winter time, but it is a completely different vibe during the warmer months. The outdoor space is stunning, and everything just feels brighter and happier. The staff are really nice, the patrons are enjoying themselves, and they just have excellent food. My friend and I happen to come during this fashion show event so there were complimentary hors d'oeuvres for everybody present, but we still ordered delicious deviled eggs (I could've eaten a whole tray of them) and had some great cocktails. You know, for the first time ever, I paid attention to a bunch of board games that they have on a shelf. But based on the stuff that's on the shelf in front of them, I am not 100% sure that they are up for grabs, but it still looks cool. Anyone who is in this area should definitely pay them a visit. You won't regret it.

My friend and I showed up for a late lunch, and after I stood waiting for service for almost five minutes, the bartender finally came closer to me and said the kitchen was closed. Also, I had previously visited this restaurant for happy hour and found the food and service to be average.

One of the main mead ingredients is honey, which explains why they use a bee as their logo. They offer free tastings of all of their meads, and most of them can be in a flight of 3-5oz pours, depending on ABV. The Zanzibar and Mead Marian were my favorites -- one was their standard, and the other was their strongest. They were a lot of cool ones in between, like one having a coffee flavor, one being spicy, some being combined with fruits.... there was a lot of fun to be had tasting all of those. The honey taste really comes out most of the time. They don't make their own food, but they offer some snacks and sell patties and desserts from Shortcake Bakery, the shop next door. I had a chicken and veggie patty -- both were delicious and flaky! It also ended up being a night when a live performer was playing. I was devastated to see that I had just missed karaoke the night before though. The band was AWESOME, I have to say... very funky, and they weren't too loud either for the space. Some folks from my party got up dancing, so that's a good sign yeah?? All in all, I'd delightfully come back here just to hang out. Did I mention they have a bunch of board games? Pro tip: parking outside is EXTREMELY limited -- overflow is at the park across the street from Shortcake Bakery. After a certain time, you need to grab a pass from inside Meadworks.
