some of the best I've had to be honest. It was very light and airy and had an excellent flavor. The toum was also top-notch and made for an excellent complement to the meal. The salads were good, they were very generous with the feta cheese and the portions were large. The chicken was tender and seasoned well. I would probably opt to get one of the platters next time I come since the salad was just a little boring. Overall this is a great, affordable, family-operated spot serving up excellent food. I would definitely return either for takeout again or to dine in.

Walked into Star's Cafe and ordered for dine in - the Chicken Tawook sandwich combo meal, which comes with hummus and tabbouleh. Got a number, sat down at one of many small tables inside (pretty no frills and casual), and waited while...

my meal was prepared and brought to me (about ~10min later). The meal was good! Very generous portion for one, and tasty. The chicken in the sandwich (wrap) was flavorful and juicy, with crisp veg and a nice pickle crunch. The garlic sauce was pretty mild (I do usually like a good pungent garlic sauce, even if others around me don't appreciate it). The hummus was decent, with the tahini flavor forward. Tabbouleh was ok, not the best in Ann Arbor. But it was all best combined (ie scooping some hummus and tabbouleh onto the wrap with each bite). The meal came with an extra baggy of pita, which I didn't think was needed. Good value for the price and amount of food. One thing - it's January and it was really cold inside the cafe. I needed to keep my heavy winter coat on, fully zipped up, to be comfortable dining in. Looking around and it wasn't just me; most everyone else there were also wearing their winter coats.

We ordered their delicious food to cater our end of year golf banquet, for 35 people. The food was delivered hot and on time. We had falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, pita, kibbeh, cauliflower, shish tawook, shish kafta, grape leaves, rice and fattoush salad. Plus, a platter of baklava for dessert. Everyone loved the food! We are so happy with the quality of the food, and their service is fantastic!

Solid lunch option in a convenient, bustling location (the Westgate strip/area). I stopped in here in an attempt to treat myself with a yummy lunch to fuel up for a couple hours of focused work at the nearby AADL Westgate branch. I finally got to try this place. It's a cute, small spot with limited seating. I came at lunch rush and they were very busy, with good reason. I ordered the cauliflower sandwich combo, which came with hummous and tabbouleh. It was all excellent! I'll return to try the Riz b har sandwich , falafels and meat items.

This place is SO good. Nothing fancy but everything is so on point and the people are so nice. Cant wait to come back.

This is a cute "hole in the wall" cafe that is hidden within a shopping center. I wanted to try this place because Middle Eastern/North African cuisine is my favorite. I ordered the gyro salad and falafels. The falafels came out steaming hot! They were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They came with tahini sauce and the dish was delicious! The greek salad was fresh and crisp with savory dressing. So good! I will definitely be back! So glad I found this place!

If you like a selection of meats and vegetables for lunch, this Mediterranean spot is for you. My lentil soup and Baba Ghannouj (eggplant spread) were tasty. The service was very friendly. I recommend.

We ordered a big stack of take-out from Star's (I think the platter for two and the baklava assortment). It was a LOT of food, and there was some good and some not-so-good: The good: the baklava was unreal amazing. It tasted fresh and very pistachio-forward, which we loved. The sauces were all incredible and the falafels, grape leaves, and kibbeh were gone within minutes. The pita and hummus were fantastic as well. The not-so-good: sadly the meat was all really over cooked for us. That could be a personal preference, but the shish kafta was so dry it was hard to eat. We will definitely be back to try their sandwiches and more!

Went here today on a whim and thank god I did...It was delicious! I got the stars spicy chicken and it had the most flavorful grilled chicken in it. The spicy sauce in it is just spicy enough that you notice it but not overwhelming. I can't wait to go again so I can try more of there menu. read more

Really flavorful and reasonably priced, with friendly staff! The Shish Kafta (lamb wrap) has some tasty pickles in it, and everything on their sampler plate #2 (Baba Gabouj, Tabouli, Hummus, Falafel) was so fresh! One of the few places I tip for takeout because they're so fast and friendly! read more

In the middle of a strip mall in the West side of Ann Arbor, you will find this gem of a place serving Middle Eastern food. We found it genuine,tasty and satisfying as a cafeteria style business. Chicken shawarma excellent, tabuli salad delicious, lentil soup magnificent. The pita bread was not fresh and came in a package . Had they baked their own and served it hot I would have given them an absolute A+++. As a result, the usually delicious bread had a cardboard consistency. They say they could have "heated" it which might have improved the taste. Do give them a try....they deserve it and you will not be dissatisfied. read more

Updating to say that we again ordered catering for a large party of 30, pretty much the same order as in my previous review, and again were very impressed by the quality, quantity, and price! Our guests were so happy with the meal, and there was a ton leftover so we sent them home with food too. Great service, great flavors! read more

This is one of the places I always need to stop at when I'm in Ann Arbor. My favorites are the Chicken Shawarma or Star's Spicy Chicken. The prices are great as well. The only downside of the close early and are closed on Sunday. read more

So good. I had gyro with lentils and rice, and it was perfect. Lentils were tender, awesome flavor. Came with a very tasty and fresh tabouli. The hummus is pretty good. Nice, smooth texture. The flavor could be a bit more zesty, but still good. Baklava was good. Will definitely be back. read more

While I love Jerusalem Garden, you can't beat Star's Cafe! Their chicken is moist and the garlic sauce is perfect. They're quick and always nice to everyone. They also have so many options on the menu, it's impossible to just pick one thing! A best bet is the chicken tawook! read more

Being that this location is in a strip mall, it's worth an option if on that side of town. We've only tried a few sandwiches-shawarma & gyro-and they were both good. I will agree with a couple other reviews, sometimes the chicken is dry, not flavorful, & small portion for the price, but on this side of town, food options are limited. We've only gotten to go but the inside is dingy & run down looking. Any specials aren't posted so you have to ask every time. Overall, it's a different option for take out! read more

I've always felt a little uneasy going into the cafe since I always feel like the staff is simply annoyed with having to serve their customers unless it's a regular that tips them well, but I still went because I like their chicken shwarma. Today, however, I changed it up and I got their grape leaves and lentil soup and not only was today the worst experience with their lacking customer service (rush rush and totally impersonal) but I paid almost $10 for 6 measly, basically flavorless grape leaves, some of which were hardly lukewarm while the others were still freezing cold (I ordered them hot). The lentil soup was also completely sub par with hardly any flavor and not even a lemon wedge. I would have rather driven downtown, paid to park and paid $11 to get proper grape leaves with excellent sauce, tender rice, great hummus, and flavorful lentil soup at Jerusalem Garden read more

Total shysters! I've been going to Star's regularly forever. I've brought my family and friends and always tell people I meet how good they are. I went in Today and they double charged me for my order. I understand this happens with restaurants and so I very nicely called them telling them what happened. They took down my number and said they would call me back. 10 minutes later I got a call from someone (perhaps the manager) arguing with me that they didn't double charge me and telling me they weren't going to refund the second charge on my credit card. Now I have to call my credit card company and go through all the hassle of reporting a fraudulent charge just because they wouldn't hear me out or treat me like a human being. Their food is good, but I won't be going back after this! read more

My favorite Middle Eastern restaurant for lunch. The chicken shawarma is second to none, and they have some awesome hot sauce that they'll put on for you if you ask. Mo is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and he's pretty funny too. Everything there is delicious, I encourage you to ask for a spicy chicken shawarma. Or the way awesome falafel deluxe. Whatever you choose, you can't lose. read more

I've been eating for over ten years or more at The Star Restaurant in Ann Arbor, Westgate Shopping Center on Jackson Road. This review is long overdue. I've introduced countless friends to The Star Restaurant because the food is equisite and the people working there are always friendly and efficient. Such a wide variety of unique, delicious food, that is always fresh and prepared by expert chefs. And it doesn't cost a fortune either. Very moderate prices and plenty on the plate when it is served. We recently moved to AA and are always looking for great middle eastern food like we had in Toledo. Star's Cafe looked promising, but fell short of our flavor expectations. We had a falafel sandwich (great), crushed lentil soup (good - needed more lemon), hummus (good, but needed more garlic), fatoush (good) and garlic sauce (not good - too much like mayo). Star's has excellent chicken shawarma. I usually save half for later because it's so big. I'm in love with their tabbouleh! It contains just the right amount of lemon and is super fresh. Their warm pita and hummus makes a great side as well. I usually add a piece of baklava for a dessert. It's buttery, flaky and has just the right sweetness. The service is fast and friendly. It's a great little restaurant that you don't want to miss. read more

Overall, I would come back, especially if I was eating with someone who is vegetarian/vegan. The food is healthy, fresh, and reasonably priced.
