I went here for a comedy show.at Toney Roneys. The parking was terrible. I ended up parking across the street. It's best to park in a well lit area in the area. You had to cross through the restaurant to get to the comedy area. The restaurant had a bar and seating. There is a $20 cover charge per person to get into the comedy area. I would recommend cash. The phone swipe device did not work. I was told to go to the ATM and that did not work. I was then told to go to the website and pay. That was the best option and it worked. I ordered shrimp and salad. The shrimp was good. The drinks were definitely strong. The comedy left more to be desired. It was not very funny. The staff was great and friendly. Stopped in this local favorite spot for some dinner with family. Now if you are a resident of the metro Detroit area you have been here at least once in your life. This is the original location and there are now two other locations, one in the Wayne State area and in Southfield. *Sidebar....there used to be one inside of Fairlane Mall but it has now been closed for a while but it was where me and my husband went on our first date together(we are about to celebrate 12 years of marriage next month!!) This was a Saturday around 6pm when we came and it was a nice crowd but we were immediately seated at a table that had not been wiped clean so I asked the hostess/server if she could get someone to wipe down the table. I guess she got mad because I asked her to not place our silverware packets on the dirty table and she never came back lol! So another server(I forgot her name) came and wiped the table down, apologized and greeted us and asked if we wanted to get any drinks since it was still happy hour while we viewed the menu. So we ordered our food and drinks and some of that good bread they have! As the gentleman was approaching our table with our food in his hands he did the biggest yawns all over one of the plates!! And when I say mouth wide open, it was wide open!!! We all didn't even know what to say, so my family member who's plate it was just risked her life and ate it anyway and didn't complain. So my other family member ordered nachos but her food didn't come out with the rest of our food, weird right! We all ate our food and still no nachos lol the server apologized and we asked for a manager I think his name was Dontae, he took her food off the bill. They did eventally come out after we were putting our coats on. Now I have to say my t-bone steak, my fried shrimp and my salad was good. The other food was also good and I love their zip sauce. The complaints: The floor was dirty near the entrance, the ladies restroom needs to be tore out and completely remodeled(I was scared to use it). The music was so loud at one point I heard one of the staff scream to turn it down. The condiments on the table were all basically empty. I visit this location often and can usually count on pretty decent service and very good food. The atmosphere fits the bill for a friendly neighborhood bar. There are TVs all around playing the latest games and typical banter every time I stop in. The bartenders are always generous with their pours and my favorite is the frozen Tito's lemonade slushy drink. The menu choices are vast and the food tastes great. Whether you're in the mood for salad or a full out surf and turf meal, this is your place; with everything in between. Oh and let's not forget to mention the garlic bread! If you're in the area, you should check them out. You won't be disappointed. I am out for the next 6 weeks from surgery. I have not been able to eat anything for the last week. I told my family that when I can eat I wanted some steak bites specifically from starters on Plymouth. Today I got my steak bites. Too much beef for my first meal, and my stomach hurts.. BUT IT WAS SOOOO WORTH IT!!! They never let me down! I have an extremely picky pallet, and these steak bites do not need anything (no sauce no salt, nothing). This time I decided to try it and upgrade using the Delmonico steak. I can say the portions were very generous and it was well seasoned. However the texture of the steak, wasn't good. So, I came here yesterday for lunch with my coworkers as a holiday sendoff. We wanted to keep it casual and my boss suggested this place. I had never been here before and went with an open mind. Walking in, the place looked really random. The inside was pretty nice with lots of TV's and games throughout. We sat at the bar and reviewed the menu. My coworker was ridiculously insistent on getting the nachos because his friend told him that they were good. My other coworker got the lobster tail and steak because he likes to blow the bosses budget and has no self control. I went with the BBQ burger because that's my style. The bartender was super cool and got us everything we needed. When our food came out, the portions were huge. I couldn't finish everything and had to take half the plate home. My one coworker could not finish his nachos, which is no small feat. To be honest, the food didn't taste all that good. Even though portion sizes were tremendous, the food tasted bland and I didn't really like it. my coworkers seemed fine with their meals and didn't mind it at all. Would I return here? Probably not. Unsanitary and filthy food preparation!!!!! On 4-13-21 we place a pickup order which consisted of (4) burgers and fries. The young lady who took the order got the special request correct as stated. We were given a wait time of an hour. When the order was picked up we checked the burgers to make sure they were correct. 3 out of 4 were incorrect! So we sent them back for correction. Once we received our "corrected" order and got to our destination, we checked them again. Upon checking them a second time one had onions that was not requested, 2 and 3!!! Was supposed to be plain with bacon, cheese and burger only! As you can see in the picture they wiped the mayo and most of the onions off!! THIS IS A NASTY AND UNACCEPTABLE PRACTICE! I called and spoke with a manager who stated the she would make me another order, however if I didn't want it tonight I would have to hold on to this and return it tomorrow which is their company policy. I explained to her that I would not be returning for anything. I have never been to any food establishment that wiped anything and returned it as new. Now my question would be. As far as meeting the demands of the surrounding neighborhood Starters has found its niche. Good food, and large amounts of it for a good price. Has a good sized bar for the crowd that wants a seat near it and booths for families- often a place where baby showers or birthdays party guests come to eat. Standout on the menu are the shish kebobs and fattoush salad. The sumac dressing on the fattoush salad is refreshing. Both are seasoned and close in style to what you would find in a Mediterranean spot. They have a large list of drink specials for happy hour and a smaller list of top shelf drink specials available all day ranging from $5-$6. Check out the list for these by the bar, usually an original recipe. High on my revisit list for location and good prices. read more

Starters has the best lamb chops and steak bites on the city for about half the price of most restaurants. I used to live up the street from the original location on Plymouth road when I was growing up. I still like stopping by for a bit of nostalgia. Twenty years later they still provide flavorful cuisine at reasonable prices. The restaurant is always clean and the menu has something for everyone. I visited this place while in town visiting a girlfriend over the holidays. We wanted a place that we could have a couple of drinks and snack food while catching up. This was my 2nd time at this establishment. I met her there once before the previous year for the holiday as well. It's not an impressive restaurant but has a pretty good happy hour considering the looks of the place. It's not my style of restaurant. The service is okay, the food is okay and the drinks are okay. As you can see the place is just okay. Nothing outstanding about it in fact it's more on the ratchet side if you ask me. Both staff and clientele. This visit did it for me even if I only visit once a year, I attempted to pay with my debit card containing a chip. I was told by my waitress that I had to use the ATM in the back of the restaurant. I was baffled! Why would I need to use the ATM when I'm paying you with a debit card!?! She "tried" explaining that the restaurant didn't have the proper equipment to utilize the "debit card" function with the new chip cards. I said okay well then run it as a credit card. She said she couldn't. I use this same Capital One debit card at all merchants within the U.S. and abroad and I've never had that issue. So I wound up paying a $2.50 ATM to get cash to pay for my meal and my bank charges me $2.00 as well. This was absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional! Borderline ignorant! I won't be going back. The food is okay and you get a decent size plate. The alfredo sauce is not the best and I would suggest ordering a burger. It is not a large bar, but the booths are comfortable. The service is mediocre and I WOULD NOT recommend going after dark on the weekend. I went to Starter's and we came out just as a young lady was getting robbed. What is the point of security if your patrons are going to get robbed when you leave? Not on my list of places to visit again. My niece and I went here last Friday. They appear to be short staffed and most of the staff that is there is nonchalant and not customer oriented. We ordered our food and when it came, so did the flies. There were flies everywhere. Crawling on the mirror at our booth, landing on our table, and trying to land on our food. Eventually one landed on my niece's baked potato and that was it. We asked for to go containers, took the rest of our food, told the waitress that the fly landed on her food. She never asked did she want another potato or if there was anything she could do to make up for the fly getting on her food. If I could give a negative star, I would. My Food NEVER got Done!! I went back for 2 hours asking them if my food was done and still nothing. Eventually the lady said we will call you once it's ready... No phone Call!! Second Experience at this Location, I couldn't get them to answer the phone, so I decided to DoorDash an Order of Raspberry lemonade, Along with a Well done Porterhouse steak dinner and a side order of Mac and Cheese ... Everything was messed Up!!! The steak still had Blood coming out of it so I couldn't eat it, My Raspberry Lemonade was a regular lemonade and My Mac and Cheese was mashed Potatoes with Cheese instead. I waited on hold for 16mins to order (I guess that should have been a red flag ), once I put order in , they said 45 min wait , yes I could have not ordered but I had errands to run in between. I ordered impossibles ; after a little over a hour they served me BEEF PATTY WITH CHEESE : yes, I can tell the difference between MEAT & impossible . The other order had mash potatoes that they OBVIOUSLY forgot to put in the microwave (never would have ordered if I knew that). This is disturbing , and no one cared enough. I just had the worst experience ever at this location. I'm a long time Starter's customers. I have been to all the locations and the original is actually my favorite. I think it has the best food out of all the locations and apparently the worst service as well. The server I had today Tashena S. was terrible the only reason I tipped her was because I was apart of a large party. I never seen such disregard from a server. We waited 30 minutes for drinks the appetizers actually came before the drinks. We had no silverware, no small plates nothing. Then she finally brought our drinks and guess what? No straws! Not everyone in our party received their food. The birthday girl never received her food and we all were done with our food, had received boxed and we paying the bill! The server showed no concern about her having her food either. The server also refused to give a refill unless she was given the cup and even threatened to charge for the refill unless she was given the cup! This was literally the worst experience my steak was over cooked. The server family was dining at another table and she spent most of her time over there. I m so disappointed. read more
