Spectacular! Delicious meal with great portions! Some of the best home fires I've ever had!

Southside Omelet

My wife, my mother-in-law, and our niece came here on a rainy Saturday morning around 10am. It was busy due to being rainy and cold, so we waited about 30 mins for a table. The wait staff was attentive and the hostess/waitress kept everyone who came in on a list. The grill was pumping out food like crazy. It was busy but it wasn't loud and the music wasn't blaring. The wait didn't feel long at all. Once we sat, we ordered immediately since we had looked at the menu while waiting for a table. Our food came out within 10 mins at most. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! The pancakes were fluffy and delicious and the omelets were great as well. Get the homefries, they are worth it! They didn't push us out the door or rush us in any way. We enjoyed our food, finished off coffee and hot chocolate, and left very happy

When I stayed in the area for a friend's birthday weekend, we came to this cute spot for brunch. It was quite a popular breakfast spot but we only waited about half an hour for a table indoors, which gave us time to check out the downtown area. We were able to get booth seating, which is my favorite. I ordered the Madre Stir Fry with toasted everything bagel and cream cheese. I also just had to try the baby chocolate chip pancake. Hey, I was hungry! The Madre Stir Fry consisted of eggs, bacon, red onion, tomato, home fries, and cheddar cheese. There was a decent amount of most the ingredients, especially the bacon and cheese. I could have used more home fries and veggies throughout though. The egg was cooked well and had a nice consistency. I really enjoyed the bacon, which were wonderfully crispy, with plenty of flavor. The potatoes were seasoned to perfection with a satisfying crunch. The cheese was melty and mouthwatering, especially combined with everything else. I was particularly impressed by the buttermilk pancakes made from scratch. They were incredibly thick, fluffy, moist, and buttery with tons of real, quality chocolate chips melted and sprinkled on top, along with powdered sugar. So delicious that it didn't even need maple syrup, but I added some anyway because I'm extra like that. The service was excellent throughout our time here. We were made to feel welcome and take my care of. The prices were also very reasonable, which is part of the reason I ordered so much food! I'm glad we found this spot to try.

My wife and I went here this past Saturday. Ironically almost a year to the day since our last visit. They area back open sooner than they expected! From what I can tell, they picked up right where they left off with us. My wife and I had a great brunch and great service. The crowds are still there.

Steel City Omelette

I decided to give the Steel City Omelette with 7 Grain Wheat Toast & a cup of fruit. Service was good and my omelette was prepared & brought to my table quickly. Really liked the toast and fresh fruit. Omelette was okay, wouldn't rush back for the omelette. Friend with me got the House Hash and didn't like it. The place is loud and particular attention is paid to people that are regulars. Others don't get any special treatment or made to feel valued. I would say expensive diner food and would go back sometime. I just won't become a regular.

We had finished a visiting tour of Lafayette College and came across this place on Yelp. Since we had our dog with us, we were able to find out in advance that they could place a table and chair for outdoor seating. I believe our waiter (maybe the owner) name is Bill. He was very accommodating and tended to our requests. My wife had a cup of mushroom curry soup to start. Wow that was the first time we had it and the flavor is so rich. She had the create your own comprised of corn beef hash, pepper and onions. I had the Frankie which was a pressed sandwich of ham, fried eggs, spinach and mustard and came with chips and pickle or carrot. The sandwich was really good and everything tasted spot on. My son had the Bill's Favorite which was a 6oz steak with mushroom and Swiss cheese on sourdough bread. It looked and tasted wonderful. Based on today's visit, we would highly recommend.

Rueben

State Cafe and Grill serves amazing breakfast and lunch food! The seasonal pancakes (apple pie) were outstanding. I loved that the apples were baked into the pancake rather than just put on the top. The breakfast Rueben was also great - I have never had eggs on my Rueben, but I was a fan and would happily order again. Would love to return for another combo of sweet and savory deliciousness!

With comfortable seating (including outdoor seating), and a smiling, pleasant, and dedicated staff, you can choose from a multitude of menu items (including specials) and have your meal with excellent coffee or tea. Courtney took care of us and she was absolutely incredible. Professional and patient, as well as extremely kind, it was clear she was proud of Sunny Side Up. It was easy to taste why. In fact, our meal was so wonderful, we came back the next day for another breakfast where Courtney took care of us again. Their eggs are excellent, the bagels are out of this world, the fruit is fresh, and the bacon's tasty. Their hashbrowns are thin, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. I had their breakfast burrito, which was delicious and filling -- and came with their homemade and slightly spicy verde sauce. Courtney also made the best lattes I have had in ages. The only problem was me because I was so overwhelmed in the best of ways that I only took pictures of my first dish! My girlfriend and I will certainly return and I will post more food pictures. What a place!

This is a firmly casual atmosphere- part café, part bierhall, part grocery, and most importantly- Curated Wine Shoppe. The ambience- bloody enormous! It was an auto garage! The outdoor patio is also large- standard Bierhall bench seating or stand overlooking the river and 'Free Bridge', as the locals colloquially refer to it. Pagoda to keep the sun off. The café- standard coffee options, and a few pastries. I believe the pastries used to be done in house (a couple had Moroccan flavours), but now, done by the wonderful duet Pie+Tart. The Bierhall- firstly- they stock Ayinger. This is my favourite Braurei in Germany. Nothing pleases me more than to see several brews- especially the Brauweiß. There are about 15 beers from which to choose, most being less common/higher quality German Brews. There are also some American brews by Von Trapp in Vermont- who also focus on German styles. Good prices. Served in the proper Becher glassware- or suck on a bottle. The Grocery- focusing on Australian dry goods and some necessities. This harkens back to the old Silk Mill location- sans the candies. I've bought some higher quality spices here. THE Wine Shoppe. Since this part of the venture opened, it has become my go-to for most of my wine. He stocks wine which you will not see anywhere else. The focus is on Austrian/German, and Australian wines. Cheap to expensive. Walking the horseshoe from left to right, you start in the White Brut/Sekt, to the Grüner, to the Red /Rot Sekt. In the centre are the cheaper wines, and a good amount of Rosé. While I say cheaper, that does not mean inferior by any means. One of our household favourites has become Fritz's Rosé. I will take the time to discuss the Wines mostly- I was introduced to many Weingut here- Moric, George Breuer, Fritz and many others. The selection rotates, but there are some mainstays. Try to find the proprietor- Jason- walk the Shoppe with him and ask questions. I have never once been steered astray. The focus thankfully is the drier side of Wine- Old and New World. You will not be inundated with the same rubbish Napa Valley and PA wines other proprietors carry. This Shoppe is for those who have an Old World palette and feel the necessity to always pay restaurant premiums. Remember, at a restaurant, you are paying for the wine, plus the storage, Som, and service. You can also buy chilled wine. You can also buy wine to consume there (different list due to LCB Legalities).

There are few things that are more soothing than waking up to a black cup of well-made coffee. I have a thing for pour over--gesha and rare single-origins. They're not always easy to find at a coffee shop. Passenger has some of the best beans and that's what used here. The staff made me a perfect gesha and a beautiful cappuccino. I'm unsure where the pastries are from, but they all looked delicious & I loved the oatmeal cream pie. The cafe has multiple areas of seating for you to yearn, write, read, study, yap in. We ordered 2 cappuccinos with oat milk and a pourover, and everything was ... perfect. The cappuccinos were just the right temperature, the milk was foamed perfectly, and you could actually taste the unique flavor of the coffee beans. The pourover was amazing, and you could tell they took care to brew it properly. We also ordered an earl grey scone and cheddar bread with PB, honey, and banana, and both were delicious. As a bonus, the space is beautiful with plenty of seating, and a parrot that fascinated my toddler. We live about 90 minutes away, but as soon as we left, we started thinking of reasons to go back.
