2 stars are for a good crunchy roll and good gyoza. The agedashi tofu was just ok. The service was fast on the sushi but slow on the other so my fiance was almost finished when I got my food. That was most irritating. They don't write down the order, and the sushi order was wrong. They didn't seem happy to take it back, but maybe they should write stuff down to prevent errors. They chose to serve my 3 items all at one time instead of bringing it as they were ready. The inside of the restaurant was small and acoustics ring. The owner was sitting where patrons sit, plus some of their friends so we basically heard them talking loud about restaurant stuff, schedules etc... It was disturbing because it was louder than we were talking and we heard that most of the lunch. One of guys took our glass to fill up and brought it back carrying two others for other patrons and his fingers were very close to the top of the glass - just bad serving etiquette. We were almost the only patrons there for a late afternoon lunch, and the general vibe just wasn't great or caring. read more

Food was amazing, and service was pretty good. But, on Yelp it says they are open until 9:30 on Sunday. I think the workers must have had a party to get to because we were the last table and at 8:45 they shut off all lights and heat lamps - it was super awkward and dark. We had to go inside to order more food and drinks because our server hadn't come out to the patio where we were sitting for a long period of time. Clearly they wanted is to leave. One party walked in at 8:45 and they tried to tell them they were closed, but one of the gals said they just called and we were told you were open until 9:30 - so they ended up letting them stay. They then put out the "closed" sign and shut the gate. Another party walked up and they hesitantly let them stay. One server was very loud in saying "It's so rude that they came in even though the sign says we are closed." Last time I checked restaurant business is down, you should be happy to have customers wanting to eat at your establishment, especially when it's during business hours. Or, if the hours on Yelp aren't correct, you should fix them. Great sushi, but the experience put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I have finally found great sushi in north county coastal SD! I only had one roll. The fantasy roll. The rice was cooked perfectly- and the roll itself stuffed with avocado, shrimp tempura, and crab and covered with spicy tuna, mayo and the little orange fish eggs. (Mangura?) The serving of fish on the roll was outstandingly large. (Yaaa I'm not paying just for rice!) The server was a doll. Definitely going back. read more

Vacationing in SD so ate here for lunch on a whim. Service, location and decor were all good but the sushi quality was pretty poor. I got the rainbow roll and the fish quality tasted bad I definitely do not recommend getting it. I suspect they put their poorer quality fish in it. read more

The sushi at this place is average, but the service is what earns it 1 star. My girl and I got seated only to be ignored by the waitress. Only reason I could come up with for the complete lack of recognition was she was jealous of my girlfriend. We walked out without ordering any of their $16 dollar rolls which proved to be average in my past experience. Never again. The place is also loud, so it is one to avoid if you want an even remotely quiet atmosphere. We ended up going to Rendezvous in Del Mar; great food and excellent service! If someone were to ask me for the best protein roll in town I would tell you Station Sushi in Solana Beach. The most recent problem is that when I ordered several rolls on a take out order I'm being told by the waitress that there is an 18% mandatory gratuity on the order to "take care of the staff". California law states that these food workers earn minimum wage but nowhere on their menu does it state where mandatory gratuity on anything. If anything they offer 10% discount on cash payment. I'm thinking rip off. When asking to talk to owner I was told that "she just left". Unprofessional sad that this great place is stopping to this level. read more

The sushi was good but the service was terrible. Me and my girlfriend went for dinner and the first meal we were served was a salad. After almost finishing the salad we noticed a whole moth in the food. After telling the server, we received no apology and were only offered another salad and dessert. Would not recommend. I love this place! My girlfriend and I went to Pizza Port on a Saturday night, bad idea. We walked down the street and decided to eat at Station Sushi, great idea! All the rolls were really good and reasonably priced. However, there was one roll, the exotica or something like that that my girlfriend wanted to order with halibut, salmon, fried something, something else and cream cheese. I didn't expect much, but it was incredible. We order that roll every time we go there now. Besides the decent price, the servers are genuinely friendly, not just friendly to get a better tip. And yes the place is loud, packed, some people have to wait a while to get in (large groups), and they have surfing and motorcycles on TV while you eat, but it's friggin Solana Beach!! I love it! I'd give it 4 and 1/2 stars if I could, but I don't give it 5 because it's not the BEST sushi I've ever had, but close. This is the type of place I'm sure I'm going to come back to over and over. read more

I love this place. The rolls are a bit on the pricey side, but they are delicious and filling! Also, there also seems to be a sizeable supply of Toro on hand which I equate with ambrosia! Both the nigiri and the rolls are tasty and fresh. The service is a bit slow when the place is busy, but the delicious food makes up for it. Sushi Solana and other sushi places in the immediate vicinity are definitely not equivalent. This place can get very boisterous during happy hour. The atmosphere is informal and laid back -- a great place to hang with friends and toss back a few sake shots while stuffing yourself silly. 1.5-2 rolls will easily stuff even the deepest bottomless pit. More than 2 will have you rolling out of the place or at least releasing your belt one notch. This is coming from someone who once ate 43 pieces of nigiri in one sitting during a sushi eating contest. Yes, I was the winner.... So the portions are nothing to scoff at. The cool thing is, if you do not want to brave the crowds during crazy dinner times, you can call your order in and they have it ready in 20 minutes. Also, I have arranged catering trays from this place for meetings and it sure is a crowd-pleaser -- just talk to the owner, Chung, and she will hook you up. read more

I've lived in L.A., Chicago, D.C. and in the south. This is the best sushi I've ever had at a non 4 star restaurant. My favorites are the Protein roll (get it with real crab for a treat!), Fluffy Mama and the Monkey Stick! Now for the down sides. The owner has clearly decided that the establishment is so popular that the wait time should not be an issue. She under staffs the sushi chefs and the servers during regular busy times. The servers are nice but way over worked. Come when you want amazing sushi and you have plenty of time to wait for it! One tip is to sit at the sushi bar and you will be served straight from the chefs (this will save some time)! read more

Read the reviews checked out the website thought this place would be awesome well I was wrong, we literally just walked out of this place I have never ever experienced such terrible service and atmosphere not to mention the glasses were dirty the servers we def not dressed appropriately dirty faded Hollister shirts with basketball shorts and see through blouses where you can see her bra !!?? Not professional or appealing at all.... After trying to find some drinks on the menu the server was very demeaning mentioning how he never recommends drinks or anything at all and if he brings you something you don't like then you have to pay for it.... He left and came back and asked if we had ever been to the restaurant before we said no and he came back with a snide remark about how he never spends this much time at one table!!!! I always sit at the bar and the chefs are all really friendly and generous. This is the place I'll go after a hard day at work, with friends, and even with visitors. I am a huge fan of sushi ota in pacific beach and station sushi is now definitely in my top 3 sushi restaurants in San Diego. Sushi is premium quality and the beer is cheap! The only draw back is that it can feel a bit of a club type atmosphere because the music is turned up so loud. Other than that...awesome place to enjoy some delicious sushi! read more

I think it's the best sushi around and we go there often. The yellowtail and salmon sashimi are great! It can get a bit chilly/drafty sometimes and if you don't get there when they open there can be a fairly long wait. I did have atrocious service one time - I was first on the list(saw them write it) and then they still seated some other people first even though I was waiting right there. After that I said I wouldn't go back but I have because it is the best sushi around. Service is usually fine but we also get there very early every time. read more

So, the sushi at Sushi Station was very fresh and good, but the service all in all sucked. Granted we did come on a Saturday evening, but we were seated and ordered at least 10 minutes before the people next to us ( regulars ) . It was at least 30-40 minutes before we saw a roll or our sashmi. The people next to us had at least 4-5 rolls within 10 minutes ... even though they ordered way after us. i did have to ask the waitress where our food is ....which did make it arrive within the next 10 minutes. My husband ordered another beer after that point and I am not exaggerating she slammed it down on the table ( uh, sorry I dont think its fair to make people wait that long for their order and we spent alot of $$, manners please ). We did decide on another roll after our main order, and by that time 1/2 the resturant was vacant. It still took 20 minutes... what the hell. The bill was $100+, food was good, but service really did suck.Sorry we aren't regulars, guess we won't be. read more

I had heard great things about this place so my girlfriends and I went to check it out on a Sunday night. We got there right as it opened and it was packed already so we thought this was a great sign - confirmed this would be an excellent meal. We were wrong. I have no problem waiting for good food, but we waited a half hour until our appetizers even came out while other people got their food before us. My edemame was cold, my soup was cold, and the service was not overly friendly. It was a full hour and 15 minutes before our meal came out. .... mediocre sushi..... and when we asked when our meal was coming out, the server spit out several phrases that made absolutely no sense that can be summed up as 'we are busy' 'you be patient' and 'you'll see'. not sure what we were going to see but when it came out it was downright disappointing. What was terribly disappointing we waited so long for the food and then they were in a rush to get us out! They cleaned off our plates before we were finished and were not pleased when we asked for boxes. They of course were super quick to bring out the check and hound us to pay as soon as possible so they couuld clear the table off and my favorite part - the waitress actually asked us if we left a tip! I would not go back here thanks to the service alone. read more

This place deserves 5 Stars all day! Some of the bestest & freshest sushi in SD county...certainly the best in Solana Beach. Momma Sang, the owner, will make it happen for you too if you're looking to host a group event...plenty of miso, edamame, hot saki, beer and specialty rolls was treated with flair and style for a group of my 50 friends for a concert/dinner bash there. We filled ourselves silly with some of the best specialty rolls this side of the coast! And I'm a picky miso eater and it's just about right here. Not too salty and big chunks of tofu onions. Super atmosphere in this local favorite. My husband and I recently took our son, Ravi, who needed a break from his studies. The experience was transporting, exciting. The food is well sourced and deftly prepared to create a variety of tasting memories. Fresh. Plentiful. I've eaten at best sushi bars in San Francisco, and I was impressed by high quality of fish at Solana Beach Station Sushi. Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching surfing videos on TV. Next time came with friends during the day. About 10 minutes after we came in they were "closed" for their mid day break, but we got great service and didn't feel like we were not welcome. I have used sushi station for 3 different parties within a week. They did a terrific job. I brought in my own platters (my choice) and they had it all ready for me on time. They kept all the patters there so I could just drive up and pick up for each event. The presentation of each platter was exceptional. At one of the luncheons I had a combination of sushi and non-sushi dishes which were equally as good. Mama-san and her team were so professional and helpful for my events. Protein rolls are really good - very filling. I rarely finish one. Spicy mushrooms are super good too as a treat.

Food is pretty good but service is not good. Waitress doesn't check on you to see if you need any water or there's anything you need and doesn't look at you when handing you the bill. Would go elsewhere. read more
