I ate here a couple of nights ago and I was really in the mood for a great burger, because I'm a burger girl after all. I decided to order my burger with just onions, mushrooms and asked for bearnaise on the side. Oh my gosh, if heaven had a kitchen it would be at Steak and Bourbon!!! This was hands down the absolute best burger I have had in my entire 55 years!! It was juicy, fresh, full of amazing flavor and the bun had the perfect consistency, not too hard or too soft, it never fell apart! ! The onions I could have eaten by themselves, that's how delicious they were. If you want a regular burger go anywhere else but if you want exceptional and the best burger of your entire life and the most heavenly burger on earth, eat at Steak and Bourbon! It was so amazing I could hardly speak... days later I'm still thinking about it and I'm already planning to go back!! If I could give them 10 stars I absolutely would! Man oh man, what an experience. My wife retired and we were treated to dinner at Steak & Bourbon. The bread with a butter candle! Exquisite! We had appetizers of Deviled Egg with crab meat. It was so so! Spinach artichoke dip was good, not great. Everything that followed the appetizers were a 6 out of 5! Filet trio, thick cut ribeye, pan roasted chicken, potato Au gratin, beef short rib pot roast, 7oz filet, Caramelized Brussels sprouts, creme corn brulee, cheesy potatoes, classic American cheeseburger, pan roasted chicken, and oh my THE SWEET POTATO! OMG! It was outstanding! Our server was so nice and helpful and was just as patient as can be since we had never eaten there. I was really excited to try out this place, having heard several people I know talk about it. I'm happy to say I was not disappointed. The whole atmosphere and experience is a lot of fun. You really feel like you are at a special place when you step in. The music and decor creates a vibrant atmosphere. The food was excellent. If you aren't aware already, expected to pay a good amount for the food as this is a higher end restaurant. I had the pan roasted chicken. It's a good portion and it comes with some fried potatoes and some sautéed asparagus. It was very delicious and filling. For desert, we got a piece of their large chocolate cake. Great place to go for special events! I decided to make reservations for my mom's birthday and the staff was very nice and accommodating for us as we celebrated a special occasion. It was very nice and dim inside the restaurant and we lovedddddd the live jazz music, we could have listened to him play all night. Then the food was so good! I didn't think the bread was all that special, but having a candle of butter melt around it was neat. I ordered the short rib pot roast and it was so delicious, but adding the creme corn brûlée to it (at the recommendation of our waiter) took it to the next level. read more

My friend had their birthday party at Steak & Bourbon, two things we both love to eat. The place is very dark but I feel like a lot of steak houses here are. This day they had a live saxophonist I don't know it that's a typical thing. It didn't ruin the conversation we were still able to talk and not have to yell over the music. Also the saxophonist was playing some great tunes! The service was great, myself and my friend's guest arrived before the birthday girl and the rest of the birthday guests but the host seated us and the server was nice enough to still take our drink and appetizer orders and checked on us serval times. I am severely lactose intolerant and I let the server know that when I placed my order as most of the steaks were finished in an herbed butter so I request led mine without it. I ordered the steak and frites without the butter and without the gravy that they had with it. My steak was cooked to a beautiful medium rare and I upon first bite I don't think it would have needed the butter! The steak was buttery feeling in my mouth, tasteful and juicy. I also had chimichurri sauce and steak fries but they weren't overly impressive. Everyone else enjoyed the free biscuits with butter I was advised that they were good. They also spoilt the birthday girl's cake, which was delicious according to those that were able to partake. My only complaint would be that the pricing is expensive for the food and drinks but I also know that the price points for similar restaurants are about the same. I've been to this location a few times and never disappointed. Perfect vibe and ambiance for date night! The service is always excellent. The food never misses. That scampi is something else and the steaks are always super tasty and moist. Will always go back anytime I can! They tend to always be busy but doesn't affect the flow. Parking is limited so drop your ladies off at the door fellas if you have to park further around the pavilion. The ambience is very nice, low lighting with rich reds. It has an open kitchen concept. Casual dining. Before I begin, I just went to Jeff Ruby's and that's a high bar to beat or in Steak and Bourbon's case to meet. Beginning with the spinach artichoke dip was mediocre. The bread is served with an "edible" candle made of tallow and garlic. Fun to look at, but the bread absorbs the grease it's sitting in and just drips grease. The steaks are also mediocre. I LOVE a good steak. These were just ok. The mashed potatoes are just ok. The Brussels sprouts are ok. The au poivre sauce is a brown sauce lacking any flavor. The chocolate cake is the star. Unfortunately, they ran out of vanilla ice cream and put coffee ice cream on it. The coffee ice cream is overpowering and competes -not compliments - with the rich flavor of the cake. How can a restaurant run out of the most basic of ice cream flavors? I'm certain there is a grocery store nearby. Improvise. This restaurant needs to step up. The bread they brought out was neat, it had a little "candle" in the middle that was actually made of butter and the "wick" was made of soy. I have only been here a couple of times but may I say each dinning experience was excellent. It starts with fresh bread served with a beef tallow candle as it melted you soak up the flavor. If you are truly hungry do what my grandson did order the cowboy ribeye 28 oz of pure delicious beef. My daughter found the beef short rib pot roast amazing and I gave in to the one pound ribeye. That butter (and the herbs below it) seeped into those rolls and that literally became a party in my mouth. On the the steak. The steak was melt-in-your mouth tender and cooked to perfection. The caramelized Brussels sprouts were by far the best I have had in Louisville . They were loaded with maple bacon chips, candied pecans and a delicious balsamic dressing. They did have a live performer playing the sax. So cool! He played a lot of throwbacks. It's the kind of place where you'd need a reservation. It's very busy and it was also tough to find parking right by the building! Once we got seated, my friend ordered the seasonal fall drink that's like a sangria with fall spices. I got a mixed drink with bourbon that was refreshing and light. We shared bread rolls with brown butter. Tiny but I'm assuming they're caloric because no restaurant is whetting your appetite with a 100-calorie snack. LOL For the food, I tried the Gouda burger and opted for the truffle fries. It was an up charge for the truffle but worth it! The aioli complemented it well and the fries had a perfect crunch. The burger was lackluster. My friend told me she looooovvves the burger so I had to try it. Not the best. For all the things they said were in it, it wasn't that flavorful. My friend got the roasted chicken and added a side of the potatoes. It's one of her favorite dishes. We went there for my wife's birthday. The server Matt was wonderful! The only bad thing is that they cut the steaks are cut at the downtown location and driven to the Westport location. We waited over an hour for the steaks to arrive. The managers compensated us graciously. They gave us free wine, 3 appetizers, etc. The lobster bisque was delicious. The salads were pretty good. The shrimp scampi were really big and had a good flavor. The cocktail shrimp dish were served on a bed of ice and were quite tasty with the horsey sauce. They serve their bread with an edible candle in the middle. I got the new York strip with a side of shepherd pie. I wish I had ordered the filet over the new York. They have the biggest hand cut fries. The potato au grauten were pretty good. The birthday cake was a white with butter cream icing. Besides the food the staff made the difference. I brought my two sons to Steak & Bourbon yesterday on Valentine's Day (no reservation) so I was not even expecting to be able to get a table. We were sat right away. We went for my son's bday but I never even told them that, so they must have heard us talking. Our server, Nathan, was very kind and responsive. And Leah, who I assume maybe was the manager came to check on us several times and even apologized for a side dish that was late coming out (but not even that late) they both apologized for our wait for food, which again, we didn't even notice. They were so busy but we just enjoyed the ambiance while waiting. I have waited longer at other places for food. Anyway, we ended up getting two free desserts As courtesy and to celebrate my son's bday! Very thankful for our experience and for Nathan and Leah. Excellent service! Truly accommodating to a senior 4 some. I recommend bringing a pen light or using your phone to read the menu- the lighting is similar to a movie theater- great for the mood, hard on old eyes :) My filet medallion trio and scalloped potatoes (I've forgotten the menu name, but they were scalloped cheesy potatoes) were both divine. Perfectly tender and cooked to perfection on two- the third was well done instead of medium rare, but still tender and palatable. What wasn't great? The hamburger and the crab burger. I understand shrink-flation. But $30 for a burger should guarantee a good one- this bun was sufficient for a half pound burger, but a thin, smashed, child size portion was a little more than half the width of the bun. You couldn't see the patty at all from the side as it was a good 3/4 of an inch from the edges. A tomato slice would have been thicker as it was about the thickness of a fried egg. The crab patty burger was thicker, and delicious, but also much smaller than the bun. If cost to produce is a factor, I really suggest the buns need to also shrink. The corn dish was recommended and was very good. The heirloom tomato salad was also terrific- watch for the cheese if you're vegan, but a great order for the veggie fan! Wedge salads were perfection! Desserts: the French white birthday cake is much better than it sounds, the chocolate cake was too rich- maybe a buttercream filling would help- and the standout is hands down the carrot cake. Will return and remember the golden rule of a steakhouse- order the steak!! read more

Visited here the other night with some girlfriends for only my 2nd visit. There was live clarinet music which was very nice. I had the pan roasted chicken which was served with roasted potatoes and asparagus. This meal was very tasty, especially with the chicken au jus that it's served with. There was plenty of chicken too... I took half home and had for lunch the next day (ensuring that my waitress included some au jus for me). My friends had the hand pies and steak salad.. they both loved their choices. We had some cocktails and I ordered bread pudding to go. Our waitress was new (Savannah) but was wonderful! We were excited to try the Steak & Bourbon Louisville location as we often go to the St. Matthews one. The decor and vibe was very different from the suburban location but works well for downtown. From the comfy chairs and couches in the main bar area, to more secluded dining rooms, there is a spot for everyone. The food was great and exactly what we except from Steak & Bourbon.
