I love this location! I go in the mornings on my way to work, and the place is empty. The waitresses are very astute and courteous. They seem to really like what they do, and pay attention to refills and etc.... The food is quick, and cooked perfect. They have the best cheese fries in the world. I've been to steak and shake several times and I had a very bad experience with the waiter Willy. He was rude and he refused us service until we complained. Then he continued to complain about how he was the only server available. He didn't get our drinks right and complained when we asked for a side of food. This Streak 'n Shake has THE WORST drive-thru. I'm not a big Steak 'n Shake fan, except for their milkshakes....I can't resist. I drive right by this location on the way home from my daughter's pediatrician, so I usually stop and treat myself if she's gotten shots that day (I deserve a treat because I have to hold her down and listen to her scream during and after her shots, plus she falls asleep in the car and lengthening the trip home with a stop lets her rest a little longer!!). I've now done this 3 appointments running and every single time I'm in the drive-thru for a minimum of 15 minutes. And sometimes, all this idling wakes up my sleepy little daughter and causes her to scream and cry until we start moving again. Which takes for-freakin-ever. Now, I don't know about you, but to me the point of a drive-thru is convenience and efficiency, both of which are completely and totally lost when it takes that freaking long to get whatever you ordered. I suspect, since the food is made to order, it's the food orders that cause the problem. Particularly because when I finally do get my milkshake, it's all melty like it's been sitting there waiting for me while other cars are plopped in front of the window for 8 minutes each waiting on who knows what. I'm not a huge fan of drive-thrus in general - if there's more than 2 cars I just park and go in - but this particular instance I don't want to bother my poor newly-vaccinated daughter by dragging her out of the car and of course I can't just leave her in there. So the drive-thru it is. I keep thinking "this time will be different" - but after 3 times waiting FOR-EV-ER, no more milkshake treats for me. Ugh. Stay away. Side note to Steak 'n Shake - how about having people pull up and park, and your employees bring out the food, when it's taking more than 2-3 minutes for an order? Why do the poor unfortunate souls stuck behind someone with an order that's taking forever have to pay with their precious time? Take a note from other drive-thrus - be QUICK, be EFFICIENT, and move the car whose order is clogging up the ENTIRE line away from the window so the rest of us can get our orders fresh!! Sat down around 1 o'clock was greeted around 1:20 placed order and just thought everyone was a little busy even though there were only 3 other tables. Around 1:45 with no drinks or any food in sight the server returned to ask us if we just sat down or if anyone had taken our order. This was the same person who had taken the order earlier and had no recollection of this interaction at this point I had lost all hope and decided to take my business somewhere else. Their shakes are pretty damn good. They offer a wide range of flavored such as strawberry cheesecake and Kit Kat. Some of their burgers are also under $4 which is pretty crazy for the quality compared to McDonald's or Burger King. I went through the drive thorough after sitting in it for 30 minutes I got my food which the fries were so under-seasoned and BLAND. I also got a milkshake, they NEVER and I mean NEVER put the lid on those drinks. I've heard it happen before multiple times from friends or innocent bystanders and the day came where it finally happened to me. Got home, turned off car got my pulled my drink out the cup holder and BAM all of the sticky, messy STAINING shake went all over my seats, jeans you name it. Thank god I had leather seats and not cloth because if I did I most likely would have sent a bill to their manager. Regardless of the seats being leather it's still incredibly sticky and ANNOYING. This used to be the local hot spot, we would come and hang out in the parking lot until the sun came up and then be back the next night. We would go inside for the bathroom and coffee, or the occasional milkshake. Now in our older days, we still hit up the drive through for milkshakes, and every time we by chance stop to dine in we are reminded why we don't do that... the service is awful. A friend and I went here one night for dinner, I ordered a burger and he ordered a milkshake, asked that they come out together. 10 min later his milkshake comes out and there's no sight of the burger.. 10 more min later the server comes by and asked how my burger was.... keep in mind there's no plate in front of me... I let her know this and she looked at me like i was from mars... I explained again to her the milkshake came out but no food, she asked if i wanted to order a milkshake too.. and i said No... i just kinda want my dinner? and she comes back with a plate- not what i ordered, and it was cold. I guess the manager sensed there was an issue, came and offered me a free milkshake... We came in, ordered 3 shooters specifically a BBQ, a cajun, and a chipotle but when the food came out we got 3 cajuns. We complained and got a new order after waiting more time and they came out with the right order but there was a hair in the food. It was unappetizing, unprofessional, and unacceptable. What was supposed to be a quick trip to Steak 'n Shake turn out to be horrific. As we were leaving Nordstrom Rack, my daughter said that she would love some steak 'n Shake. When I got to the drive-through line I ordered her kids meal, and the guy over the intercom asked what I would like to drink with my meal. I told him she would like a HighC, but She asked if she could get a milkshake instead. I then asked the guy what would be the difference in price if I upgraded to a milkshake for her. In a very rude tone he told me it depended on the milkshake. I asked him For both differences, and he asked me to pull around to the window. When I got to the window, I asked him could he repeat the prices because I wasn't sure if he told me or not. In the midst of me asking him this, he rudely cut me off and asked me if I could turn off my windshield wipers. I told him that was very rude to cut me off and I still cut off my windshield wipers. I then asked him If he had an attitude with me asking the difference in price of the milkshake. He just stopped and stared at me, without responding. Then he said, "Does it look like I have an attitude?" It was very unprofessional and honestly at this point made me feel very uncomfortable, especially when I was just trying to feed my seven-year-old dinner after a late night in the rain. I told him that he really should not treat his customers that way and asked if he had a manager available to speak with. He rudely said that he was the manager and how could he help me... What an ass hole! I told him that he was very unprofessional and handed him my card. He refused to take it and told me he wasn't going to serve me because I thought he was rude. My third time at this location and each time has been horrible. The service is almost non existent, the tables and chairs are never clean. They are always apologizing about not wiping stuff down. I swear a requirement here is "must be unwilling to work" "attitudes are a must!". Been here 15 mins and still haven't gotten my drink. Each time the food comes out its just slopped together. Pass. Bad service and bad food. Firstly, had water spilled on us and waitress was pretty indifferent about it. Not a big deal, mistakes happen. She then disappears for good 5-10 minute, forgetting to bring new cups of water. Took 45 minutes for 3 burgers. She then walks away without providing any utensils for sides. I ordered some food in the drive thru tonight and all I ordered were 2 combos with drinks and 2 shakes. l got 2 burgers that were completely plain, meat, cheese and bread. The drive thru attendant never asked what I wanted on the burgers, so I guess that means I don't want anything on them? What the hell? I used to work at a steak n shake (in the drive thru no less) when I was a teenager so in many ways, I feel like I know what to expect more than most. DON'T bother with online ordering!!! I generally am a fan of Steak n Shake, and when I saw the new feature for online ordering we were pleased. Gave it a try today and was VERY disappointed. Online ordering is so simple, but apparently filling the order based on the specific details is difficult. Of course we didn't realize that the order was filled incorrectly until we got home... No recourse, just disappointed kiddo's with burgers that had mayo dripping off the bun. I don't think we will order online again anytime soon. read more

Terrible service! My co-workers and I arrived at 12:20. It took about 8ish minutes to be seated and we were the only ones in line. At 12:45 we finally got some water. We kept looking around for our waitress and at one point she was actually working the take-out line... One person at our table had to get up and ask another server to refill his drink. We were at this restaurant for an hour and a half and would have been there longer but we asked for our shakes in to-go cups. My boyfriend and I tried to eat here at 11pm last night. 1 server on the floor who ignored us. Manager finally came to seat us. We sat there for 10+ minutes and finally the manager came back to take our order. Afterwards I went to use the bathroom and found a GIANT ROACH on the wall!! So I've now tried this 3 times, each time ordering the 5 way chili with extra meat (which I happily pay extra for). Each time it has been screwed up. This time there has barely ANY meat. I normally don't write reviews unless they are positive, but today is a little different. It is also my last time dealing with the shabby service at Steak and Shake in Alpharetta. I don't eat a lot of fast food but they are close to my job, so whenever I want JUNK, I go there. My order is wrong just about every other visit. I could have and should have stopped patronizing them long ago, but I realize that we are at the mercy of whatever attitude shows up on any given day. Today, however, took the cake. I've never had an issue getting the happy hour price with a combo. When I inquired why by total was so high, I was informed that the price would not be honored with a combo. Ok. No problem. Please ring my items individually. The girl huffed and puffed and closed the window to give me a new total. I have seperated my order before because I don't drink soda and I know the total of just the sandwich and fries. To add the half price shake to it was still within reason for a greasy combo. She returns to the window with a total that is not what u asked for. She simply took half of the shake cost off.....which she could have done in the first place. Now, she's still overcharging me from what I asked. Because I'd already been in line for 20 minutes, I didn't have the time to argue over $1.00. I called immediately upon leaving to get a corporate contact or management assistance beyond the survey phone number on my receipt to which an employee named Kim declined to give and hung up in my face after I told her I already had that info and wanted something further. It's not about the money, it's principle. Just because you work at a "not so fast" food establishment doesn't give you a pass to give poor service. I'll get my grease fix elsewhere from now on. After speaking to coworkers, it seems that most of them have experienced the same LACK of customer service at some point at this location. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. This will be based on two visits, as I like to give places a second chance, but the second time was just as bad as the first. 1. Around 11pm, I decided to stop at the drive-thru after a long day of rehearsals. When I pulled up to the speaker, no one greeted me. I waited, made my presence known by calling out, and still no one. Then I drove up to the window, where there was no one. One employee walked by the window, saw me, and kept going. So I decided to drive around and go through again, thinking maybe they didn't hear the car sensor go off in their headset or something. Again, no one greeted me at the speaker. This time when I went to the window, I honked, and still no one. By this point in the evening, I was hungry enough to go inside and inquire about the situation, and to get my order to go from the counter. The woman at the takeaway counter did apologize and gave me my milkshake for free, which I appreciated. But then it took 20 minutes for them to make my order, and five more minutes after that, because they forgot something. I understand that they take longer than a fast food restaurant, but for that time, I could have sat down and just ordered from the table. It wasn't even a complicated order. Three sliders and fries. It should not have taken 25 minutes. 2. After a performance, three of my castmates and I decided to go for some late night food and milkshakes. Again, this is a little past 11pm. At this time, they were extremely busy, nearly every table full, and a line of people waiting at the door. I can understand that we had to wait to be seated, that's fine. Except for the fact that while we were waiting, there were at least 3 tables with no people (which just needed cleaned off), and multiple employees just standing around, not doing anything. We waited 15 minutes to be seated, and during that time, NO ONE greeted us, or anyone else waiting, to apologize for the wait, tell us it would be a few minutes, nothing. The manager was behind the counter, and he didn't even say anything to us. They just ignored the group of people at the door until they felt like getting around to cleaning off a table and seating us. When we were finally seated, we waited for 15 minutes, and no one had come to our table to even take our drink orders. Finally I got up to find a server, frustrated to find that other people who came after us had already had their orders taken and at least had their drinks. The only good part of the visit was that when I talked to a server, she said she would take care of us (even though it wasn't her area) and took our orders right away. I seriously wasn't going to tip at all last night, but this woman (I wish I had gotten her name) made sure to take care of us the best she could, so she deserved a tip. After she took our orders, it took at least another 30 minutes before the food came out. By the time we got our food, most of the other tables had finished and left the restaurant. So, from the time we walked in the door, until we were able to eat, it took an hour. That is way too long for a restaurant like this. To top it off, my steakburger was only barely warm, and dry looking, obviously showing that it had been sitting for a couple of minutes before it got to our table. The only two good points of this visit were the waitress who helped us, despite not being in her area that night, and the Nutella milkshake. It was delicious. If I had Yelpd this location I WOULD NEVER have gone. My husband and I had errands to run at North Point mall. After we were done and leaving we saw the restaurant figured we would run in for an early dinner. We have a Steak and Shake in Cumming and they are FIVE STAR!! It was 4:00 on a Saturday when we got there. No crowds Maybe 15 total people in the restaurant. We knew what we wanted the burger with egg on top. We've had them at our local restaurant and "to die for". Simple? Right? Food was brought out and the egg was fried completely- not runny as we expected but HARD FRIED. Ok I still love egg, bacon and burger combo. I can get past this. We never saw our waitress again till she brought the check. Had to flag down the guy that buses tables for some ketchup. This while i watched staff clowning around paying no attention to waiting customers. Add to that rude attitude of being inconvenienced to get orders out after 20 min. This place is TERRIBLE!!! I went to the drive through to order a drink and some french fries. Fast food? Yeah right!!! I waited over 10 minutes and there was only ONE car in front of me!!!! Then, the cashier tried to short me a dollar and argued with me until I asked to speak with the manager. We visited this Steak 'n Shake for lunch around 2:15ish at the insistence of my father. I was worried after reading all the terrible reviews but my dad wouldn't budge because he had a coupon. The waitress we had was fantastic! Somehow she was able to get everything at our table correct, even though my father's order was complicated. Hey, it's fast food, right? Well, Steak and Shake is not on the same level with In-N-Out, Fatburger, or 5 Guys, but it's pretty good. If you're comparing to McDonalds or Burger King, I have to say Steak and Shake is well above...It really depends on if, and what type of, hamburgers you like. I have gone to this location for years with no issues but lately it has been nothing but subpar. Employees seem more worried about their smoke break than working with customers. Maybe that's why they are always short staffed but if you don't have time to wait I wouldn't suggest coming here. That's what I don't get... sometimes they have employees just standing around looking bored and seem to have enough staff but they never seem to be eager to help anyone. I had to sit in the drive through for over 10 min with no assistance. When I finally ordered I drove around and was helped by a very sweet lady. I haven't been given a receipt lately so unfortunately I don't know her name. She asked me to pull to the front to wait for my food. I proceeded to sit there for 20 min or so and was contemplating driving off. Just when I decided to leave they walked out with my food. No apologies or anything.
