First of all, if I have to wipe off my cup because there is more cherry syrup on the outside than on the inside, that is a problem. One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. A friend and I went here after work and it was about 11 pm. We really wanted milkshakes and I was kind of hungry, but wasn't sure if I wanted to get food. We sat down and waited a couple minutes before our server came over to greet us. We only ordered water and our milkshakes because we were possibly waiting on a 3rd person to join us, so we did not want to order food yet. There was us and one other table there and I kid you not ... it was 1130 before we received our milkshakes. Now, I am a server so I know how it can get, but there was only ONE other table who was done eating, they were just talking, and all we ordered were TWO milkshakes. Okay okay, maybe the drive thru was busy you say? No no no. We watched our waitress the whole time, she was putting on chap stick ... talking to her coworkers ... twirling her hair. Basically doing everything but make our milkshakes. Now if there was some malfunction with the ice cream or shake machine or whatever they use I would understand. But our waitress didn't come back to us in that entire 30 minutes and didn't say anything. By the time we got our shakes I had lost my appetite. So I didn't end up ordering food and you bet I never went back to this steak n shake and never will again. read more

While the food is OK, the servers are the very best at customer service! I have had 3 different servers in the last 6 months and each and everyone provided better service than I ever received at an upscale restaurant and they were super busy at the time. I continue to amaze myself by frequenting this establishment. Today's visit did nothing to change my opinion. I arrived around 2:30 PM and there were perhaps 7 tables with customers. I was promptly seated and was waited on after a "brief" 5 minute wait. The waitress was very nice and even asked me if I would like my milkshake delivered with the chili to which I said yes. Chili arrived promptly and waitress said milkshake would be right out because they had a real big order of them. I looked around and most of the patrons were drinking soda so I couldn't figure out where the order may have come from. Moments later my meal arrived without the cheese I'd requested on the burger and still no milkshake. I didn't send the burger back because I didn't want to have it come back with a cold piece of cheese slapped on it. Halfway through cheese-less cheeseburger waitress came by to say milkshake was on its way. As I took the last bite of my meal the shake appears! At least it showed up. As I was checking out I got the usual "how was everything" question. Thinking some constructive criticism might help, I told the "man in charge" that "except for the milkshake arriving after I finished my meal of a cheeseless cheeseburger it was ok". I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by his total lack of comment to my response. I have very low expectations of this place and they never disappoint. read more

My experience at this particular Steak 'n Shake was so bad that I remembered it from months ago and am reviewing it now. I decided to do drive thru and take the food home after working a 11 hour shift. I ordered a steak burger combo meal with a chocolate shake. I'm not now to complain about wait times in drive thru establishments but I got upset after waiting 16 minutes, after a few minutes of me internally complaining the worker handed me a milkshake and asked me to pull forward until the remainder of the meal was done. I opened the lid on the shake because it felt and sounded like liquid. Turns out it was one hundred percent melted and a total liquid. On top of it all it was not even the correct milkshake or near the correct one. At the 24 minute mark a worker came out and handed me a bag which was my food. I took a look in the bag after the worker went inside and the fries clearly had been sitting out for a good while and were room temperature and not the slightest bit hot. I was even more infuriated when I looked in the bag and checked out my burger and it was not a burger at all. It was a chicken breast on a sandwich. I could have went inside and let them know how extremely terrible my experience was but after working that 11 hour shift already, I was too tired too. I decided to instead just swing by Jimmy johns for a sandwich for dinner. I tossed the steak and shake away right away when I got home. It really irritates me that I spent the long 24 minute wait in my car for a simple order and received the wrong food and shake in miserable condition from a set of workers who clearly do not care about their jobs. This establishment has lost my business and I refuse to pay to eat there. Not only do I refuse to eat at this particular Steak 'n Shake, I am done eating at any restaurant this company has open. read more

This is by far the worst fast food restaurant you could go to in edwardsville. Anytime I have tried to go in the past year I have had to wait for over 20 min in a drive through! Ordered 2 milkshakes at the drive through. The girl at the window handed me one and I put it in the cup holder carefully, because the lid was sliding. She handed me the second one and the dome lid popped off on the way to the cup holder, sending vanilla milkshake all over the place. The worst was that much of it sent between the seat anD the console. UGH! A manager was out helping a customer so I stopped and told her. She brought me 4 napkins and a small wet towel, along with another shake. I adked her why these weren't put in a drink carrier. She lied and said they don't have drink carriers. I have gotten shakes there before and 2 or more are always in a carrier! Also, the girl at the window had such ridiculously long fingernails that I think that might be the reason that the lids were not on tight...maybe she couldn't manage the lids with those fingernails. Their food is delicious and cheap. Their servers are always polite and quick to refill your drinks. It's a bit chilly, so you might want to bring a jacket or keep your coat on. The service can be a bit slow at times, especially when they're full, but the food is always fresh and hot so it's mostly worth it. The restaraunt itself has a wonderful old-fashioned look to it and is always well-kept. Overall, a great place to grab some lunch or hang out with a friend and chat for awhile. read more

Edwardsville Steak 'n' Shake. REALLY? Wow, just had the worst steak and shake meal of my life. Waited 30 mins. for our meal and they were not busy at all, maybe 8 tables, 20 people in the place. Then got it, AND IT HAD BEEN MICROWAVED! A steakburger MICROWAVED!!! WTF? The dead giveaway was a soggy collapsed bun and pickles that were smokin' hot! I mean SMOKIN' HOT. My wifes meal was COLD. The dumb waitress said "well, we are training a new cook". SO? Then train him correctly, not incorrectly! The manager (who looked like he was 12 or so) did not even apologize, say "I'm sorry", or offer a meal on the house during our next visit. He just said "I'll take care of it", cancelled the check, and that was it. PISS POOR SERVICE Steak n Shake. Such a shame because we really enjoy their food. Or DID enjoy. read more

If it was possible I would have given them 0 star. One they have rude service and two my husband place an order at the drive thru and when he got his food and took the first bite in the car on his way home he bite into something hard and chipped his tooth. We call and call and they told us they can not do anything about it because the food left their area. And honestly if a mistake was done on their part they should own up to it. What can i even say about this place? Ive been to many Steak 'n' Shakes over the years, and this one has been the worst one yet. Edwardsville, you are failing. To further explain, my boyfriend and I parked the vehicle. There was maybe 2 or 3 other vehicles in the parking lot, so we thought we would get seated, and order our food fast with not a long wait time. That is definitely not the case with the Edwardsville location. They greeted us when we walked in, just two people, and we were introduced to our waitress. She handed us menus and then walked away. There was only 2 other tables. One of them already had food on their table, and the other was ordering with a different waitress. With 3 cooks on the line and 2 waitresses, we definitely agreed there hardly wouldnt be a wait. Once again, not the cause. We waited 25 minutes before the waitress came back to take JUST our drink order, 2 shakes and 2 waters to hold us until the shakes got made(because shakes take longer to make, no biggy). The waitress said "it'll be a bit of a wait for the shakes." We said "no big deal, thats why we asked for water too." Then she walked behind the counter to make drinks, or something. I heard her say and I quote "fucking everyone is ordering shakes and its so frustrating because i have to run around and get orders and place orders and make the shakes and run them out and its so frustrating." Then she walked around the corner to us with a fake smile and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered " 2 burgers and fries " super easy. We should be the next ticket right? WRONG! We waited 35 minutes for our food, and then another 15 minutes for the 2 shakes we ordered before she took our food order. Hmmm. Shouldnt the first thing we order come out first? Apparently not. Edwardsville Steak 'n' Shake just lost two frequent customers, along with EVERYONE we tell about this experience. There is also food under every table and booth. Terrible service. Waited an hour after ordering. There was no wait getting seated and restaurant was not full. Had to find someone for coffee refills. Were never checked on. When we finally got food, it was luke warm. Discovered our waitress was manager when I asked for the manager.
