I can't review the food because all I did was spend a half hour standing with a bunch of others at the front waiting to be seated! It was funny how, despite the other families coming in, waiting with us, empty tables, adequate staff, they found ways of avoiding eye contact with any of us despite our evident growing frustration. Even those who were done with their meals and wanted to pay and leave just kept lining up at the register without being helped. So what did we do? Can believe how bad service now at this restaurant and why other Steaks N Shakes now closed in the surrounding areas to Cincinnati. Try to go yesterday late afternoon and give them plenty of time (2 hours) to prepare 80 shakes. And ask we can give time to them to prepare increments. Restaurant manager refused to prepare because it was too many to make. So we took our business to another ice cream shop down the street. One thing we are from out of State visiting from California and to give 60 Drumline band members to try the restaurant. Will not return back when we return next April. read more

I mean it is a Steak 'n Shake...go in there expecting typical diner food with a smile and you won't be disappointed. This is not the place to come for a fat juicy burger or gourmet dessert. They serve burgers and shakes...hence the name. I like their burgers. They are pretty small in size but they taste pretty darn good. Fries are so-so...for my taste anyway. They are thin cut and don't have the crunch that I personally like. Their shakes are amazing! Prices are mediocre. It isn't going to break the bank but not as cheap as McDonald's unless you have a coupon. They run specials/coupons frequently. Check the paper. Service was awesome! This location has never disappointed when it has come to service. Everyone is always friendly and they are pretty quick. Although they do have a drive through they are not fast food like McDonalds or Taco Bell. You will wait so keep that in mind. Not the place to come if you need your food yesterday and definitely do not sit in the drive through if you need to use "facilities". We will be back and we will be back to this one. Just another fast food chain... Except this one ain't fast. I get they are making milkshakes but still.... Nothing in the menu should leave you waiting in line THAT long. Okay so the food is truly subpar... The shoestring fries are flavorless bland sticks. Burger King does a better job and I hate them with a passion. to thick to drink through the small straw... Isn't milkshakes suppose to be their specialty? The quality of the ice-cream should be higher in my opinion, especially if this is their signature. The burger is alright... Nothing mind blowing, surprisingly juicy without the grease puddle. I enjoyed it but again there was nothing about it that makes me want to convert or return. :( I had been looking forward to this meal after all the up talk I had heard from others. They even use Roger Ebert quotes to drive home the fact that they are so superior when in actuality they are only causing people to practice their eye rolling. I know that this chain isn't known for their service, but come on! I stopped in here with my wife and kids to get something to eat before we went to an event at the Nutter Center. First of all we waited about 20 min to be sat which is not a problem as they were somewhat busy. Then once we were taken to our table (never swept underneath and still a little sticky in spots) no one ever greeted us. We sat for a legitimate 15 min as I watched numerous servers talking to each other at the server station and no one ever came to our table. I finally asked the host if anyone was waiting on us and he said he would find our server. Another 3 or 4 minutes went by and at that point I was upset, my kids were hungry, and we were running short on time. We decided to leave and as we were getting up our server came to the table and asked if she could start us off with something to drink. When I told her that we had waited for over 15 min to be greeted and that we were now leaving she simply replied with "ok". Not an "I'm sorry" or "Let me get a manager" just a smug "ok". I've lived around here for awhile and this steak n shake used to be ROUGH I won't lie. But I feel like it's clear they are under new management now. They have order in Kiosk which takes away from the issues people may have had with bad service. The workers they do have there bussing tables, calling numbers, cooking- are all very friendly and hard working. The food was tasty and even presented nicely! I'm a fan because the food is so cheap and also very good (for the fast food dining-in restaurant). Granted, the menu doesn't offer the healthiest choices, but who cares. This place has gone down hill 1000%. Way to noisy, food delivery was slow. When we got our food, you could tell that the milkshake machine was not cleaned between orders. My fork had something hanging off of it that I cannot identify. The waitress and the manager never acknowledged the dirty fork on the table. This place is disgusting! Every time I come to this steak and shake I am more and more disappointed. Every time I have gone I've either dealt with rude employees or terrible food. This last time I ordered a western bbq burger and for one it wasn't even made correctly and the steak burger was horribly dry. There was NO bbq sauce on it at all and it's supposed to be a bbq burger so I was highly unsatisfied, the bun was stale, and the employee taking my order was extremely rude. I work in a restaurant myself and I understand how it can be sometimes but when something is wrong every single time I get food from here it's just unacceptable. read more

I hope the food isn't usually this bad and to be honest, it usually isn't. My son and I ate here about a week or so ago (I believe it was Nov. 14 or 15). I ordered a single hamburger with lettuce and tomato only. I also ordered a salad with no dressing (I had brought my own because most restaurants don't have the kind I like anymore). Oh I also ordered fries. The meal was mediocre at best. The fries seemed overcooked. My salad consisted of a bowl of shredded lettuce and nothing else. I did ask if I could get some tomatoes and received some diced ones in a bowl. The hamburger was so-so. I've had better but it wasn't anything to brag about. All I can say is, it's a good thing my son was buying because I probably wouldn't have paid for it and/or finished it if the tab had been on me. Went here Monday night with a friend to get a shake and catch up, this place was nasty, the floor was gross and as you walked your shoes stuck to it, ordered shakes when they came was told they would being us a spoon as they ran out & were being washed as their shakes are thick you really need a spoon, kept waiting & waiting then asked again for spoons was told they didn't have any clean so we asked for a plastic one was told they didn't have any so they bought us forks. Tried to eat here at 9:20 pm tonight - Sat evening. They are supposed to be open 24 hours. We were told in the parking lot that they were closed. Decided to call and double check as well as ask when they would reopen. A female answered the phone and said we are closed and hung up before I could ask when they reopen. I called back to try to ask again or listen to a recording (which most places have) and a male answered, yelled "we are closed" and hung up on me as well. This is extremely unprofessional. If you don't want to talk to customers, don't answer the phone at all. I have no plans to return at this point. We have eaten her in the past and had a great experience. So much so we got a gift certificate. However, yesterday the experience was terrible. We love steak and shake, which is probably the reason we keep coming back. But jeez, the things we have to put up with at this store. One hour waits for food on sat and sun nights, 15-20 min waits to be seated "because we only have one server" we once came in to wait, then they closed the store because there wasn't enough people working. I don't know why we keep coming back. They really need to hire more people or something. read more
