We came home late last night. And my family and I were looking for a place to eat that was still open, steak and shake was our choice. I went inside due to the long line in the drive-through. I ordered my food , waited for 10 minutes then sat down for maybe another 10. Nothing no food no other acknowledgment that I was even there. I stood up, and I look their way for five minutes. The cook then asked me if I had been helped. I reiterated my order to him. And waited another 10 minutes for them to actually make my food. Will never come here again. Fact that I have to give this place one star to post this is sad. They deserve no stars read more

This is the worst place I've ever went . I love their milkshakes but I'll make the drive to Troy next time . My husband and I went to get milkshakes last night . We got to the speaker at 1030 pm . We sat in the drive thru for 19 minutes waiting on two milkshakes . There was no one else in the drive thru and there was 2 tables inside . We seen at least 5 employees in there . The order taker was very rude . She also said give me a second an ill have your total we waited 5 min before she told us she would have the total at the window to pull around . I figured she was making shakes . No she started them after we pulled to the window and sat there for 5 more minutes . I got a birthday cake one and he got a Reese cup one . They were so thick we had to wait an hour before we could drink them . Long story short this is a horrible place to go . read more

Stood at the door for about 5 minutes while several employees looked at us including the manager. He stood behind the counter cashing out another waitress. This couldnt wait 45 seconds while he seated customers? Mind you, there were 6 tables occupied and 3 servers working. Was finally seated only to sit for another 7 minutes without being acknowledged. One if the worst dinning experiences in my life. The hostess who seated us needed to be on life support. Lethargic and did not greet us just grabbed menus and said follow me. No silverware or napkins just menus. After being seated And looking at the menu for twenty minutes our server, who was also thrilled to be there, came for our order. My wife and I ordered, nothing difficult a fish plate and a party melt. While waiting I observed that a packed restaurant was being served by "two" servers. A manager was clearing tables and trying to get the by now 15 people waiting upfront seated. This should have been my cue to leave because I knew we were not going to be happy when and if our food came. After about 35 to 40 minutes of waiting for our food with no sign of our waitress the manager who was clearing tables brought us our meal. My wife's order was wrong, fish sandwich was supposed to be a fish plate. Manager said she would take care of It. We commented how long would that take as we waited for it 40 minutes. She assured us it would be fixed right away. So my turn now, fries were obviously under a heat lamp as they were cold and hard. Bit into my patty melt and almost broke a tooth. Burger was ice cold and bread was hard. At this time our waitress who I thought had quit because I had not seen her for almost an hour, stopped by to ask if everything was good. I commented to her how the food was cold, wrong and she was M.I.A for over an hour. She leaves and here comes the manager again with my wife's order. Corrected but still cold. Manager comments that she understands my food is unsatisfactory. I enlightened her to our dissatisfaction with service and food. She explains that they are under staffed and apologized. I expressed to her that even though I sympathize with her. I am a paying customer and I would like to be treated as well as every other diner in the restaurant. She offered to remake my meal but I informed her I didn't have another 40 minutes to wait. She told us no charge for our meal, actually my wife's meal because there was no way I was paying for mine as it was not edible. At This point we had to ask for silverware again so my wife could eat. Finally to add insult to injury along comes our waitress and asks if everything was good. Seriously?!!! OMG I had to leave at this point before I lost it entirely. This place should be shut down! Two nights ago at around 2 in the morning I had occasion to be at this restaurant on business where I was required to be in the food preparation area. I have experience being and working in such restaurant environments and I am here to tell you this place was the MOST DISGUSTING REPULSIVE FILTHY "food area" I have ever seen. Trash, discarded food and dirty dishes littered the food prep area and trash was thrown all over the floor and managers office. I can't say whether a trash can was even in use in this area. I have eaten here and typically have good food at a reasonable price with decent service but this was flat out gross. It took them 5 tries to get our drive thru order right. The order taker just couldn't seem to understand that we were ordering two shakes, and two orders of fries in addition to the two full meals. She finally got it right and charged us appropriately, but when we checked our order before driving away from the window, there were only two orders of fries instead of four, and no fountain drinks, just the shakes. My recent visit to Steak 'N Shake here in Huber Heights was a disaster. Not only did our order take twice as long as it normally should but I ordered a shake and never got it in the 45 minutes I was in the dining area. I've been to other locations and have not had this problem. I will think twice about going back to dine in this Steak n Shake location. read more

So this Steak n Shake is a hit or miss....I went one night and food was hot and fresh other times cold and the fries had to have been thrown in the grease another time for quick heat up. I have not gone inside so no idea if it's as dirty as other reviews say...kinda of prefer being in denial. Worst service I have ever had at any establishment. All the waitress and waiters were just standing in the corner by the soda machine's. It took forever to get waited on then once food was done " I could see it sitting in window for pick up " it sat there for at least 5 minutes before it was brought to table. I hear Steak N Shake is known for its steak burgers but I was here for their milkshakes! They have some pretty cool combinations. The double fudge sundae milkshake came highly recommended, and may I say that it did not disappoint. They have these split shakes where you can pick two flavors and they come in one glass, side by side, but not mixed, which is fabbb! The vanilla orange combination tasted pretty good! We placed an order for 1 milkshake in the drivethrough at about 8:40 pm behind 3 or 4 vehicles. 20 minutes later we finally reached the window. I witnessed several vehicles behind me already had left the line after placing orders. Upon reaching the window and being greeted by a female worker, she was holding my milkshake and asked for the 2.99 payment. I asked if there was a discount for the long wait, she replied that there was no discount and apologized for the wait. I gave her the money and she returned the required change along with a coupon she said was was compensation for the long wait. When I got to destination and looked at the coupon, it was for a free milkshake with the purchase of 10 dollars of gift cards. It also had an expiration date of February 14, Valentines day. Talk about a spit in the face and the worst customer experience a person could encounter. That gesture screamed to me, that manager did not want my business or the business of anyone I know. Steak and Shake is a classic from the 1930's. My 99 year old mother still raves at the thought of the place and I can still see the sights and sounds of my youth as the grill(person) does the magic. Full service on real plates and glasses and real silverware. The staff are quite friendly and accept and suggest personal changes to sandwiches. The ingredients are all top notch. The steakburgers are lean meat, the milkshakes actually contain milk, the fries are almost as good as ones we recently had in Belgium. (get a small cup of mayo to dip them in) The coffee is an excellent Seattle brew. Also a wonderful breakfast menu, you can still get 'over easy' eggs. There are some imitators out there and there are some not-so-good SnS's, but this particular one has a neighborhood feel, even though right off I-70. It is a bit hard to see from the highway as it is down a steep hill. read more

Normally I have no problem with the service the food I've never had any problems with my main concern is I noticed only 2 people was actually doing what they are suppose to do. My question is where Is the GM when the lines are crazy and the tables are basically full and all I can see in the back kitchen is high school teenagers texting and carrying on conversation. The work ethics is horrible I don't think a GM should not expect one or even 2 people do a 5 to 6 person job. I looked around and I saw 2 people busting tables taking orders cashing people out and seating people by the door. Now what is the teenagers doing in the back? oh that's right they are too busy to play on a cell phone that requires a JOB to pay for. I understand its a small building but that does not justify the reason why the service is horrible. The great thing was no matter how stressed or busy it got the waitress still has a smile and did her job that's a prime GREAT example of a hard true worker.
