Ok I admit I go to steak 'n shake a lot more than I want to admit, but it is one of the only places that stays open pretty late. This Steak 'n Shake is definitely not perfect but for late night food it gets the job done. I usually go once a week to meet my boyfriend after we get done working. We head in about 11:30 pm and usually we don't have an huge issue. On a couple of occasions a server didn't take our drink/food orders until we flagged someone down to help us. The food is just mediocre it's mostly about the company for me. Last time I visited, two people got into a verbal argument where they were cussing and pointing at one another. Usually our experience isn't like that but just fair warning, late night places seem to have quite a bit of unrest like that. read more

So me and my friend went to this Steak 'n Shake location off of west Washington & 465 They immediately told us they were out of hot dog buns and all shakes. I really wanted a shake. We ordered 2 frisco melts and a cup of chili We asked for the frisco melts to be made with less butter to relieve some of the greasiness and they did actually do a great job of that. the frisco melts were not to bad. But the cup of chili I received , with no onions as requested, was FULL of grease. So incredibly greasy and SALTY. It was unbearable to eat. Last time I was here I said I would every go back. Everybody knows how thin steak burgers are mine was rare. I just can't eat rare meat, so I just didn't eat it. This time I thought it would be better, so I seen those new Prime Steakburgers the one with the knife stuck in them. I got that mushroom truffle prime burger my husband got one also but he got o plain prime burger. They made him a patty melt he said that was not what he ordered,so they took it back gave me mine. I cut it in half and it was raw inside just like they put it on the grill little brown then turned it. When she brought my husband back I told her mine was not cooked she said she would get me another one I said no that's ok I don't want anything. When she took it back to the cook he bitched the whole time we were there I cooked that right and I left it on the right amount of time. He just hot would get over it I was trying to. He even told her not to throw it away he got mad because she did. The only reason I give it two stars is because our waitress was nice about it. Usually McDonald's is the standard for shoestring fries, but Steak N Shake's fries are so thin that you could have slid them into the drinking straw. Everything was served on a real plate and delivered to my table. I usually only give fast food chain stores 3 stars unless something was done out of the ordinary... well as I was getting ready to leave, the waitress offered me a refill on my soda (called pop here), when I told her I needed to go she brought me a fresh soda in a TOGO cup....gratice / no charge. This is Midwest thing. Once you try it you will love it. I always get the frisco melt with fries and baked beans. You got to try the baked beans they actually run out of it on a daily basis. Well, someone who works there or gave my husbands card number out, has charged at least $900 to his card and when my husband called about the charges, we were met with extremely rude store managers/workers who told us to call corporate! We narrowed down where the charges were taken from and someone who my husband spoke to no longer works there! I'm very upset as to why no one asked to see ID or even a freaking card! We live in CA! So for them to give us the runaround is very disheartening to say the least! We have five children to take care of and In light if this virus and the fact that we can't even work right now and the managers/workers attitude is appalling to say the least! Fix this now!! It's well known that this restaurant does not hold up to even the most basic of expectations. I am dumbfounded at the delinquency of the staff. On multiple occasions, I have waited up to an hour only to be disappointed with a cold,mediocre "meal". I would not recommend this joke of a location to anyone. I would rather eat the scum off of my shoes than to ingest this GARBAGE of sustenance. Now to mention that staff. When I am seated I immediately feel as if I am an insignificant piece of garbage. Chili was AMAZING! Chili was AMAZING! Chili was AMAZING! You get my drift. I would come here again and again just for the chili. Obviously made fresh; not sweet; just great chili. Other items were good, but not extraordinary. Prices were excellent. Two meals with drinks and tip were under $15. Service was a little inconsistent that day - apparently they had four people quit all at once that day (one wonders why - some labor problem??) For burger/hot dog joints, one of the better ones. Ahhh, Steak 'n shake. Known for its incredibly long service times.... except this location. This was the first time in the 4 years I've been eating out with my significant other that we had amazing service at Steak 'n Shake. We love the ambiance and food at all Steak n Shakes, and fully understand that not-so-great service is kind of just part of it, so we always have pretty low standards. Toni was our server, and was sweet as can be. She had our drinks to us shortly after ordering, followed promptly by our shakes, which we are used to waiting until after our food for because they usually take so long. She offered us upsells on a few items that we didn't know existed, which we gladly accepted. When we were checking out, it was just a minute or so after midnight and apparently at midnight their system resets. The manager felt awful about making us have to wait, but of course we didn't care! We took the extra time to let her know how impressed we were with her store. I know Steak 'n shake is on a sort of company hiatus, but if you're going to keep some open this is a good one to do so. read more

We went inside to place our order to go due to how backed up drive thur was. We waited about 10 minutes before our order was taken at 10:45 our food was brought up to us before paying for it had to wait on shakes as well and only one was brought up while paying for our food and that was at 11:03. Both milkshakes didn't taste like they should which was a Chocolate and a Hershey Special Dark which didn't have chips in it, they were out of whipped cream for the shakes. No napkins were in our bag, wasn't asked if we wanted ketchup. Waited about 10 minutes for the second shake, which while waiting our food is getting cold. When we got in our car it was then 11:15. Sandwich's were ok but they should of been warmer than they were when we got home, however the frys and onion rings were both cold. The hostess and waitresses were VERY NICE and accommodating! Their food was delicious! We've read other negative reviews about this place but that was not our experience. On the contrary, our waitress was more than willing to accommodate us. One of our orders was for a grilled chicken that came feeling not cooked thoroughly. Staying in Indy for the weekend and we thought we'd give Steak-N-Shake a try. What a disaster. It took forever for our waitress to ask for our drink order & even longer to get the actual drinks. She took our food order and that's when I started growing a beard. During the wait I looked around the restaurant. People were being seated and not met by a server. I saw several people get up and walk out because they had been sitting for over 15 minutes and nobody ever waited on them. At this point my beard is down below my chin while waiting for my food. I finished my drink before my food arrived...it was all I had on the table to consume, but I was never asked about a refill. I tried to get our waitress's attention but she was Walking in circles. By now I'm unrecognizable to my family. My ZZ Top inspired chin whiskers are full on into my lap. Amazingly our food arrives. I'm so overjoyed that I forget to ask the waitress about my refill. DOH! My Grease-Saturated Frisco Melt was warm and the toasted bred soggy. My fries were ice-cold and tasted like a raw potato. I couldn't even enjoy some lukewarm cheese sauce to warm them up and hide the taste because, well, the waitress never brought it...that's 50 cents on me Steak-N-Shake, you need it.
