"By Biglari" signature at the end a little too fancy for this place
Michael O.

Traveled from California to review Steak & Shake for my podcast, as they're going to be in my annual Septemburger tournament later this year. My first impressions of the place were that the outside didn't match the inside. It has a fancy signature on the sign making it seem like it'd be an upscale kitchen, but it's not. It's a fast food burger joint. A decent one at that though. You walk in to find kiosks to order with, and the place felt pretty clean. Not too crowded. The customers I did see almost all got confused by the soda fountain, because you have to scan a QR code to activate it? And the scanner wasn't directly next to the dispenser, but over by the ketchup pump. Either way, seems like overkill but I guess soda theft be causing these businesses to drop like flies. The staff were all nice enough, but with the removal of a face-to-face ordering interaction, there's not much to talk about here. There was an odd moment where we ordered our shakes with cherries on top, and they arrived without cherries. We didn't say anything but a minute later, a guy from the back came out with our cherries and told us that most people don't like cherries, so they assumed we didn't want them. Mostly I just found it funny, as the problem was fixed quickly and without us asking. Still worth noting. The food was a mixed bag. The burgers were all pretty decent. My dad and I split a garlic burger, a western BBQ & bacon burger, and a standard steakburger. The garlic one rules if you enjoy garlic. A little salty but overall I'd go 6.5-7/10 on the burgers across the board. The fries were really good warm, but make sure you add their special seasoning salt. I had to ask for it as it wasn't kept out in the opening. The onion rings tasted like freezer burn. The milkshake didn't taste the freshest (but not as bad as some of the other reviews had me prepared for). The chicken tenders impressed me though. Overall, I'm neutral on the atmosphere, positive on the service, and neutral-to-positive on the food. Pretty close to perfect mediocrity, but slightly higher. Hours of operation

Show up @ 11:40pm get told a lie that the French fry machine is broken. Which was a clear lie. After investigation they were trying to close early. Which the operation hours are 10am-12am. Horrible customer service. POS didn't want to tell the truth.

Drive thru

I have had a love hate relationship with Steak and Shake for 20 years. Love their food, hate their service. Many locations shut down over the past few years, which is sad, but justifiable bc of their poor service (every location across the US). I work close to this one and noticed today that it was open. I was very happy yet nervous about how the drive thru of all things would be. I didn't wait long and recieved my food as ordered correctly. It was fresh and delicious. This location redeemed the years of bad service experiences!

Very excellent service and management. The food quality was very good and for 4 people you can get an excellent meal for below 30 dollars.

I like Steak 'n shake burger better than Five Guys, In and out Burgers or any other fast food franchise. My usual is always avocado burger.

Worst service ever. Went in to get a shake and it took 19 minutes before they realized they gave my shakes to someone else.

It was just bad all around. I have eaten at other locations and it was good. Bad service, bad food, and the place was a mess.

Atrocious service. The manager is just sitting behind the counter and not helping the one waitress. Seriously pathetic.

For sides, I chose the mac and cheese, cornbread, tallow fries, and Brussels sprouts. This is the kind of meal you remember for a while. The Wagyu tomahawk ribeye was the star of the table. Tender, flavorful, and packed with that rich beefy taste you'd expect from a steak of that caliber. The garlic stuffed filet was incredibly tender and added another layer of flavor, while the New York strip had a great texture and a perfect mesquite grilled finish. The Gulf shrimp were cooked well and added a nice contrast to all the steak. Smoky, juicy, and full of flavor. The sides were excellent across the board. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, the cornbread was warm and comforting, the tallow fries were crispy and addictive, and the Brussels sprouts provided a nice balance to the feast. The restaurant itself has a true Texas atmosphere with a rustic upscale feel. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel special. This wasn't just dinner. It felt like a Texas steakhouse experience from start to finish. Definitely one of the most memorable meals I've had in the Dallas area.

I would not go back to this place even if they offered a 200$ credit!…read more Not sure what happened to this place over the last 5 years (maybe covid?), but we use to love The Ranch. Burger had absolutely no flavor to the meat, chicken fried steak was a thin slice like you would see in a small diner and bland! corn bread had absolutely no hint of "corn bread flavor". The ribs tasted ok but they were average at best. Very overpriced, average food now. Stood at the bar for 5 min being ignored by the bartender even after we made eye contact several times and he knew I had a question (not busy at all). Instead he continued to talk to the couple in front of him and straight up dismissed my presence. I Finally walked over directly in front of the bar tender and asked for a price menu. They had a great selection but everything was marked up 200% on a pour, and that's 200% on TOP of what most restaurants already mark up. It's a shame. Not sure if it's under new management or what but that was a terrible experience Whiskey cake is way better, food is better, all the staff is amazing and their drinks are fairly priced!

After I left a review, the manager, Amanda Stewart, reached out personally, inviting me to call and share the details. Amanda, though new to the company, has years of industry experience and truly understands the value of great service. She apologized repeatedly and invited us back. We returned this past Thursday, and it was a complete turnaround. Amanda made sure we felt valued, and Damien, our server, was phenomenal. The food was spot-on, and the entire experience left us with a much brighter outlook. We will absolutely be returning. Thank you, Amanda, and thank you, Damien, for making it right.

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Tupelo Honey is a stand-alone restaurant conveniently located near Hwy 114 and 161. There's plenty of parking, outdoor seating, and a mixture of tables, booths, and bar seating. Speaking of the bar, it acts as a beautiful backdrop for the entire restaurant. 1 Star. Service - The service is always friendly. Our server is always smiling, and I can't help but feel welcome with southern charm. Tupelo Honey trains its staff well, and I really enjoy coming here and interacting with the staff. 1 Star. Food - I always begin with the Biscuits with a Cause. These light, flakey biscuits are served warm with a crispy exterior and soft, flakey inside. But honestly, the biscuits act as a delivery mechanism for the butter and blue berry jam. I always ask for an extra side of butter and jam because I use it all. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Honey Dusted Fried Chicken (dark). The chicken was perfectly fried, crispy, and sweet. And the dark meat was juicy. Pro Tips - use your hands. Another great dish was experienced. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I have yet to have a below average dish at Tupelo Honey. Yes, it's a chain. But it's also a darn good chain that keeps its menu fresh and is worth multiple visits. 1 Star.

It was a treat for me to finally visit a Texas Roadhouse restaurant!…read more Yeah, da 808 is kinda behind da times, as we don't have Texas Roadhouse out here, but we got Outback Steakhouse in da 808. Lol! So Tuesday night Carrollton got hit with a storm. Heavy rain, lightening, & thunder. I asked my coworkers if they wanted to head out to dinner, but it appeared that da fella's weren't down wid' it. Luckily, my Big Island coworker was also in Texas the same time I was here, so I reached out to him to see if he was down........sure enough, he was. When in Texas, I guess ya gotta have Texas BBQ at least once.......and being that I have worked in Texas numerous times, I've had more than my share of BBQ Ribs & Brisket in the past. Upon deciding on where to go, we ended up at - Texas Roadhouse in Irving. The Tuesday night we came here, even through the bad weather, the restaurant was still packed! The wait for a table was minimum, and upon getting seated, service was instantanious. I think I was still recovering from the previous night from Japan House, so I didn't want to eat a whole bunch of food. Upon looking over the menu, I ended up with just a BBQ Chicken Sandwich w/Fries. As for my Big Island coworker, he went for da gusto and got a BBQ Ribs & Steak plate. What can I say about the grub? I really enjoyed my BBQ Chicken Sandwich! It was a bit messy with all that sauce, but that's what napkins are for! Lol! Very generous serving of food, and I managed to down all of my sandwich, but left most of my fries behind, as it was just too much food. As for my coworker, he destroyed his BBQ Ribs & Steak plate. I was so happy he enjoyed his meal, as two days before I took him to another restaurant where he ordered a similar combo, but left a lot of food behind (I think his meal wasn't too good at the other restaurant). One more thing about Texas Roadhouse...........have you ever tried the complimentary rolls? Oh my!!!! Da buggah is Winnah's! Overall a wonderful dining experience, and should I ever return to Texas, ya better bookmark Texas Roadhouse on the places to visit for BBQ.

I know Texas Roadhouse is a…read morewell-known chain, but the service here reminded me that you don't need to be an independent restaurant to provide excellent service. In fact, some of these restaurants in Dallas need some customer service training for sure. We had a very simple check in and we were quoted a 15 min wait for three people. Not even 5 minutes later, we were texted to come back, the we waited another 5 minutes before we were seated. Our server was so nice and she was helpful in selecting our food and giving recommendations. She also was very attentive without being overbearing. Our food was cooked very well and even the salad was super tasty. My friend said it was the best salad he's ever had, lol. The steak was done well and onion blossom was good. I had a good experience dining here and would definitely come back. Splitting our checks was also very simple, our server had no problem with it and it was all done on a tablet after. Thank you Texas Roadhouse for a great dinner!
