We come to this location regularly mostly because it's convenient and the price is right. My wife and I will often stop by for a quick lunch together and only spend $10 (including tip) for both of us to enjoy a burger and fries. The service and food... Well, it depends on who's working that day. Sometimes We receive outstanding service from our server, friendly, attentive, and timely. Other times, not so much. One thing we have learned though, NEVER use the drive-thru. The only reason I'm giving this location a 3 star rating is due to the consistency of the food. No complaints there. But the service? That's definitely at a 2 star level. Each time I've been here the service was awful, whether the restaurant was packed or empty. By awful, I mean that multiple times we have been given the wrong food or have been left for long periods of time with no sign of our server. On our last visit, we got our food long before the waitress ever brought out our drinks (Our first drinks, not refills). As a mom to little guys, this is frustrating on a whole new level. How unfortunate that I can't give this place zero stars! I was so excited to go to Steak N Shake since I live out of state now and there are none in my new city, but this was beyond disappointing. My mom and I went through the drive through at this Steak n Shake just now and they apparently have either a new employee working that area or someone with no customer service skills or experience. We ordered two milkshakes and a burger without the bun. One of the milkshakes was mint chocolate chip and the other was vanilla. As we pulled up to the window to pay, we watched the girl spill my mint chocolate chip shake. Then in order to cover this up, she evidently added about half a bag of chocolate chips to the bottom of a new cup and poured the remainder of the spilled shake over it so it took up enough space in the cup to pass when whipped cream was added. Newsflash: when you add big unblended chocolate chips to a beverage that is to be consumed using a straw, you might have some issues. It was very obvious what happened as I couldn't even get my straw to the bottom and I could not get any sips of milkshake through the straw. If you make a mistake, just apologize and fix it. It happens. You really mess up when you try to cover it up. This happened after we got charged for two meals we didn't order as well. This location is a mess. You'd be better off going to a location with different ownership. read more

Steak 'n Shake to me is one of the best bang-for-your buck places around. For some reason I never think of it as a fast food place but it sort of is. Their $4 menu is a terrific value and is very underrated. I come to this location a few times a year and I never have any issues with it. The drive thru staff is always efficient and my food is always prepared in a timely manner. My food comes out hot and my burger's are always cooked well. Everything is cooked to order unlike other fast food restaurants, which is a big plus. They offer a great regular menu that is also very affordable just like their $4 menu. Obviously their milkshakes are some of the best and their happy hour is a great deal. Steak 'n Shake isn't quite up there with Culver's, PDQ and Chick Fil A, but its definitely above average for a fast food restaurant. read more

I really likes me some Steak 'n Shake, honestly, and it's the only reason I won't rate this location based on our experience Saturday night. Our waitress was absent the entire time and never brought my chica's food out. So I literally sat and ate alone while other waitresses walked right by our table and her chili mac that sat up on the window the entire time I ate. The entire staff looked miserable. But, other than that, the food was hot, fresh and tasty. The manager took the chili mac off the bill because our waitress sucked and she seemed genuinely apologetic. So regardless, I'd return. Went to the drive thru and waited 23 minutes for me food, only 2 burgers, 2 fries. Kept asking the window attendant if there was a problem and she kept saying no. For various reasons, I was here twice tonight! After a 6 hour drive home, I stopped for a few burgers. Waited for about 3-4 minutes to order at drive thru. Waited another 10 minutes for my incorrect order. Second trip: (why not? This one is super easy) Frisco melt - no bread. Three people had to question the no bread. This is not rocket science! Mint chocolate chip shake. Shake had a pile of chocolate chips on the bottom, some shake, and then another handful of chips.... And they charged me fifty cents more! We've eaten at this S&S for about 10 yrs. and last 2 visits have been HORRIBLE service. We thought it was the cook on 1st visit but this last one was ridiculous. Ordered a Meal with salad, shake & I ordered salad with fried chicken. Nothing came for about 15 min. - then suddenly the burger came, no extra pickles like we asked, and NO salad and no shake. Tara seemed aggravated that we asked for the salad and pickles - I'm SORRY but the salad should have come out FIRST and the Orange freeze next. The Orange freeze had sat there for some time because there was no ice cream at the bottom like when it's brought out in a reasonable time. We were there about 12:30 - 1pm and the store was really SLOW and we know why now. It's not the cooks that cause the long delay - it's the server, at least it was today with Tara. Absolutely NO EXCUSE for that kind of service! She didn't even apologize for not bringing salad out before burger OR extra pickles - just plunked the plates down on our table on her way by! Pathetic. If we go again and it's practically empty, then we will go elsewhere for sure!! This store used to be so busy and suddenly it's not - I don't understand what happened to make service so bad! I've been eating and steak and shake restaurants for a number of years. actually more up north. i have eaten in several of the locations in pinellas county, both Oldsmar and the Countryside. Most of the time at Oldsmar. The food is always good, service good. Most likely the reason I go back is the milkshake. They are the best you can buy. Almost always I just have a vanilla malt, but tonite i had one of the new flavor shakes (peanut butter cup chips) and it was very good, but next time it will be back to the vanilla malt. read more

Our containers of fries were not hot all the way through and were only partly full, and the burgers were so thin. LOL, the grill cheese was about one slice of American cheese- like you bite into it and it is all bread, and then you keep eating and find a little bit of cheese in there somewhere. First time ever at this chain restaurant. I was very excited to try the shake and was completely disappointed!!!! It wasnt rich or smooth as I'm used to. A lot of icy ice cream chunks which leads me to believe their ice cream isnt fresh or stored properly. The shakes at Wendy's / Chick Fila are 20x better! The staff are friendly and efficient which is why I give two stars. The burger was good, but considering the price I'd rather go to Red Robin (same price, though I did try their 'special' prime burger) or else even BK or Mc D (cheaper). this is by far one of the best Steak n Shakes! It is clean, servers are friendly and food is delivered promptly. Even the shakes are served quick (some locations take FOREVER to make a shake!) Even though the SR580 location is closer, this is my go-to place when I'm in the mood for Steak n Shake.....love the milkshake happy hour!! read more

we stopped going there for a while cause the hamburgers were greasy.. but today, I wanted a strawberry shake. so off we went.I ordered a big burger.. hamburger.. no cheese no pickles no mustard....... only onions, mayo, tomato and lettuce. shakes came out right away.. great.. then the sandwiches came out. the hamburger I ordered.. was a cheeseburger.. guess they couldnt read the NO CHEESE part.. so the waitress took it back .. second one came out. outside of burgers was done.. inside.. raw.. just plain raw.. guess they really not read..... the waitress was fine.. she did her job.. and she too was upset wiht the sandwich. oh well. I do not recommend this restaurant. First of all, I had to wait 10 minutes to get the waitress to notice my group and seat us. She gave us menus and left. She came back later and took our orders, and we all ordered a shake. Well she brought only 2 and not mine. And 45 minutes later she still hadn't brought my shake but had our food and I told her just never mind the shake. I am Very upset at the customer service we received, will not be returning soon. In process of moving and wanted a place that was quick and casual so that we didn't have to change clothes. Always enjoy the food here, good steakburgers and crispy fries. Service was prompt and order was served quickly. The primary reason for my rating was the temperature. It was probably 65 in there, making it difficult to enjoy my food. Did not order one of their yummy shakes as I was already shivering. Another couple in front of us at the register had the same complaint. My husband said something and the server, wearing a heavy sweater, said she fully understood but that they could not do anything to adjust the temperature. read more

Went last night after leaving Howl O Scream, was told to get our own menus, have a seat & someone would be with us. Sat there for 15 mins, no one came and we never got acknowledged. We looked around for anyone, only person we saw was the one in the kitchen which told us to grab the menus, we finally got up and left. Good food with great daytime staff. Tend to eat breakfast weekdays here. Weekends are always packed. Prime burgers are my favorite if I get lunch. Can't beat the all you can eat pancakes . They have good biscuits that my wife loves and is what she gets 3 times a week. We have done a 3 am breakfast run since they are open 24/7. I love the side salad they have when I get lunch so not just fries here. Chocolate chip cookie dough shake mmmmm . Ask extra cookie bits thick and you will be set . read more

I was heading home from the beach, in a convertible with the top down and with humidity the heat factor was about 105! Then I saw that beautiful Steak and Shake sign, but I had passed the restaurant. As doon as I could turn around I went straight back, it was happy hour and the drive thru was backed up. I finally got to place my order and waited impatiently in line for my milkshake. I was soool hot and really wanted my shake, well thst was my excuse today. The truth is my entire family are ice cream fanatics, and we can find any excuse to have this delightfully delicious dairy product. Ah, it was my turn to pay and get my shake...I think I heard the Angels sing. I gladly paid, received my cold cup of expectations and anticipation. Steak and Shake did not disappoint! I've worked at tons of restaurants. Knowing that the majority of the menu is around four dollars, I would bust my ass to make sure the service is on point for everyone. I came in with my sister and two kids around 4 PM and and we ordered about $28 dollars worth of food. The food itself was fine-- hence the two stars, but the service was horrendous. You drop food, drop the check and think you're done? My sister didn't get a refill. We waited needing more boxes because we didn't finish our food. Check out took forever. They didn't even have the right kind of bags for take-out. We just wanted burgers, hotdogs and milkshakes for the kids and steak and shake came to mind. Do yourself a favor, get takeout and skip the "service." read more

About 2 weeks ago, around 2am, I left Oldsmar Steak and Shake very unsatisfied  thanks to  Izabelle who works there. Had me waiting in drive-thru close to 15 minutes with no response after she said she'll be right back. It seems like she can't handle pressure situations, which is sad when its just late night fast food. She should be reprimanded. Asked me after leaving me in drive thru for 15min if i wanted to order something when i went inside to complain. um...hell no! Not after you left me in drive thru! No apology at all. Just said how busy she was. You signed up to work there. You know how it goes....she should be better at her job or let go.  A week later, i went back giving it another chance. Got home and my order was correct except for one thing. They forgot my burger patty. I had fries and a bun loaded with onions, tomatoes and what not but no meat in it. Sigh. I'm not going back to the oldsmar steak house again. Because that's either deliberate since i complained a week earlier than this or that steak n shake is getting worse with their service. read more

Nice restaurant that makes a good burger for a really nice price! Parking was kinda a pain and it took a little bit for the waitstaff to clean off a table for us. Most of the staff seemed flustered and running around chasing their tails. Food was quick and right the first time with no issues at all. Our waitress even pulled a first for me in all my many visits by bringing us a full ketchup bottle to the table! I know my heart skipped a beat as well! I keep thinking "maybe this time it will be better" but it never is. The last burger I got was sooooo greasy, it was the double n cheese. I didn't finish it by worry of gagging and threw the rest away. I tried something new by getting the parmesan garlic fries, but they were dry and didn't have much flavor. The milkshakes I have gotten from this location have been pretty good, with the exception of the glob of chocolate syrup or caramel on the bottom. This time I tried the new s'mores milkshake. It was surprisingly good and tasted like s'mores. It even had little chunks of graham cracker that were the right size to fit through the straw without a problem.
