First time I ate at Sonny's was in 1969 in Gainesville, where it all began. I was hooked on barbecue from then on. And I was hooked on Sonny's. This is our local Sonny's, and today Christina took our order. We got the Sonny's birthday special: sweet ribs with garlic bread, coleslaw and beans (baked for Husband and green for me) for $10.99. We've always had good experiences here - great food and great service. Tonight is no different. Today is Sonny's birthday, so we also got free dessert: cupcakes! It wasn't busy when we came at 4:30, but past experiences have been standing room only when ribs are the special for the day!! As we are we saw the place fill up with families. Couples and groups. It's really something I didn't want to post but it was hard to eat the ribs they were hard and the kids chicken tenders were very hard as well. The kids didn't want to eat them. I hope this helps them to try a little harder and care about their service. read more

Paid an extra $2 for beef brisket and got chicken instead. Tator tots were so greasy they left a stain on my seat. Also, one of the managers told me to email them. I emailed them about two weeks ago and have not gotten a reply. 10/10 would not recommend this place. read more

This is a mediocre chain food restaurant serving BBQ meals and sandwiches. Portion sizes are decent & there at least 8 different sauces. Service was slow for a weeknight & 1/2 empty seats. Solid four star experience. The pork egg rolls appetizer was delicious- tasty inside, crispy outside. Our server was friendly, didn't rush us at all and checked on us several times. The Pork 3 Ways was tasty, tender ribs were excellent; the Large Brisket sandwich was a pile of marbled deliciousness! Mac and cheese accompaniment was good, sort of ordinary. This is the second time in a row my order has been missing a side (corn nuggets). I only come here a couple times a year since it's about a 15-minute drive, but my last two visits over the past year have both had order issues. The meals are very simple -- just two items and a drink -- so it's frustrating to get home and realize something is missing again. Please double-check bags before handing orders out. Sunday lunch after church with the usual gang of 6. Decided to visit Sonny's, hadn't been in awhile and Fried Green Tomatoes on a sandwich caught my eye. Pretty busy and no parking but one opened up. Seated right away in left side with group tables. Looked over the menu and something for everyone used to be a Family Meal. We used to get it for our family of 6 and always had food leftover, but not on the menu. Server said it was still available for a little over $50, with 4 meats, 4 large drinks, 4 pieces of bread and 3 sides. We ordered with Pulled Pork, Ribs, Brisket & Sausage meats and Mac & Cheese, BBQ Beans and Coleslaw sides. I did remember to ask about a military discount and server said they did have one. Oh and I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. Took awhile for our food to arrive, so we chatted. Unfortunately a group of 12 seated beside us with a loud baby and loud adults so talk was limited. Eventually our food came but the Pulled Pork turned out to be Pulled Chicken so our server ordered the correct meat, no charge. Then the Sausage didn't come so he had to reorder that. We also asked about the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer and that came in the middle of our meal. Food was excellent. Ribs were fall-off-the-bone, Pulled Pork was perfect, sides were great. Fried Green Tomatoes were just good. And there was a full carry out box left. The disappointments were the food mixups, the late appetizer and the loud neighbors. The latter couldn't be avoided but the other two items were kitchen or server problems. The final slap was when the check came. The food is consistent and tasty. I recently ordered delivery, I the delivery driver was only 3 minutes from my house and bailed stealing the delivery. I called the restaurant and the manager promised to resend the order. He went above and beyond to make me happy in the face of a frustrating event. Their food. Ordered a brisket (lean) sandwich and my husband and I split a salad. The brisket came on a bun and the meat was all fatty. I pulled most of it off and left it on the side of my plate which left hardly any meat in the sandwich. It was so hard to bite into because it was so tough with all the fat. When the server came over I showed her all the fat on the side of my plate. It was gross. Her response was "It must be the chef's recipe." Always came to Sonny's for a great meal and went here today for lunch. The picture on the door was a BBQ Cuban and before I went inside I knew I had to try it. Ordered it ($7.99) and made it a big deal combo and got a side and a drink for $2.79 (they also have a draft beer and side big deal combo for $3.50) Also had the salad bar which is $9.99 and you can add your favorite bbq to it for a total of $12.99. At the salad bar they had an array of items: Iceberg and Romaine Lettuce, Spinach, broccoli salad, chicken salad, seafood salad (must have! Yes even at a bbq place), peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and more along with four different dressings to choose from. At the table they have four different bbq sauces to choose from. I also go for the sweet bbq and the spicy. Didn't get it today but seen they have white claw available for $4 along with cocktails and beer. Lunch specials as well and don't forget to join their text club to get a free app! I received an email from Sonny's offering me a free "Big Deal Combo" in my birthday month. I showed a printout of the coupon to the waitress when she asked for my order. (Photo attached.) She refused to accept this since it did not include the expiration date. For some unknown reason, Sonny's does not include the date on or near the coupon, but puts it in a totally different part of the email. I did not have my phone with me (only more to carry around) so I had to go home to get it. We live not far away, so it did not take long. Then I was ready to select my free meal. The coupon said a "Big Deal Combo". The Combos on the menu had two types of meat and two sides. I expected the coupon to offer this. Wrong! I was offered a sandwich and one side. I got a pulled pork sandwich and french fries. This was very good, and I enjoyed the meal. The Strawberry Lemonade was also delicious. Yet I have several questions. Why does Sonny's not put the expiration date on or next to the coupon, so they can be printed out together? When I did not have the expiration date, why could I not show my drivers license to prove this was my birthday month, and have the coupon accepted? Some restaurants allow this. Some don't , but some do. Why did the coupon say I would get a 'Big Deal Combo', then restrict me to the smallest meal on the menu, and not what the menu said was a Combo? None of those questions were the responsibility of the waitress, but the next question is. Whenever I show a birthday coupon, why am I almost never wished 'Happy Birthday'? To me, a free birthday meal is a Very Special Event, but the server treats it as just another coupon. C'mon y'all, celebrate with me, won't you? Smile and wish me a Happy Birthday. Only once has a server done that. If I get the same offer next year, I will take advantage of it, but I will be aware of the restrictions. Yet the questions still remain. My husband loves BBQ. I believe it is like Crack Cocaine for fat people. We go there several times a month, and I always order smoked turkey on a Cobb salad or a platter. 9/10 times they are out of turkey. Why? Because it takes longer to cook. That is stupid. You are a huge chain restaurant. There has to be a CBO (Chief BBQ Officer). Ask that person how to have turkey all day, every day. Either figure it out or take it off the menu. We usually love Sonny's however, it seems they're sending out garbage for those that order direct with them. We have been trying to utilize restaurants direct websites to order in an attempt to let the restaurant keep the profit instead of a delivery app. The last 2 orders from them have been terrible. Last week I ordered baby backs that were so thin & hard the meat crunched if you tried to bite it off the bone. So this time I decided to order something else. We ordered a sliced pork dinner & a combo of pulled pork & sliced brisket. The pork was not even edible. I decided to take pictures of what we were given. This was ordered on the Sonny's website & picked up from the store. The okra also tasted like a chemical of some sort. We did not eat it either. read more

Ordered curbside pick up-of course no spots. Had to go in a was greeted rudely. Of course food was not ready at the time it said to be there. Tell them I will be out in my car, as I walk out a curbside spot opened up. Lady brings food and says " there's a spot right there" in that wise ass way. Too many choices to be treated like that. We've been going to Sonny's for years and it was one of our favorite places. Don't know what happened to Sonny's because to last 2 times we ordered pulled pork and ribs were not good. The ribs were overcooked and hard to chew and the pulled pork had no flavor. The green beans portion and sweet potatoes were half the size and the garlic bread was burnt! I gave them 5 stars previously but 2 today which is generous. I'll try 1 more time and if they haven't improved I'm done!! Spent over $40 for 2 people and feel I wasted my money. read more

Brisket might as well been boiled, also no smoked taste and thinly sliced in a very small potion. Broccoli and corn boiled to the extent of sogginess. Didn't much care for them putting pepper on the broccoli either. Mac-n-cheese dried out to the point of stickiness. Garlic bread was so greasy a complete lube job could be done on a car with what was left on my hands and napkin. And for the kicker, we were charged for something we did not order. Well, if Sonny's would quit axing half their menu, then people might actually start to come back.... First, you take the salad bar away (understandably) for COVID, and you promise it will return. But when we visit you, you tell us the salad bar is permanently gone (from all locations). So I order my usual (turkey AYCE), but the server tells me the AYCE specials are gone, too. I am glad I didn't ask for the 4-for-$24 special you were known for. All things aside, the food is good, but not spectacular. Coming to Sonny's has been a family tradition for years, and it is one of one my son's favorite places because of the salad bar. He has Celiac's disease, and he likes to be able to pick what he wants on his salad plate. And I for one, always vouch for Sonny's when we eat out - just maybe not anymore. read more

Just thinking of Sonny's BBQ makes me hungry! Sonny's has become our family's favorite place for a hearty BBQ meal, and my favorite place to get wings! Yes, I know, there are TONS of wing places out there, but Sonny's has become my favorite. They have a variety of wings that reminds me of my favorite wing spot from my hometown up north, and is the only local place I found that comes close to replicating that taste. I order my wings with their rub and ask for them to be cooked a little extra so they are a little crispy. This helps to get rid of a lot of the oil and fat on the wings too, and they taste delicious! They still give you sauce on the side (your choice of flavors), but I find the rub gives it so much flavor I don't need any sauce! My only problem (if you can even call it that) with the wings is that you don't order by the piece, it is by weight. It would be easier if could order by the dozen. Not a huge issue, just easier for planning. I am also a fan of their pulled pork sandwiches - and suggest getting them on a bun. They come on toast, but for me pulled pork belongs on a bun. When you order by phone for to-go, you have the option of picking it up in the store or the drive through. They drive through is usually backed up and you could find yourself stuck in that line (unable to get out) for quite a while. Unless the weather is bad or you have a bunch of little kids in the car with you, I think it is way easier to just walk inside. The drive through is also (sort of) shared with Starbucks (their order sign is around the building) and the car wash, so once you get your food from Sonny's pick up window you have to deal with cars coming in (towards you) for the car wash and others heading around for the Starbucks drive through. Then, the stop sign where you exit the pick up area is in a weird location - basically, that area is best to be avoided as it seems like an accident waiting to happen. I strongly suggest parking and going in to pick up your food to avoid that headache. Since Sonny's little parking lot is shared with Starbucks you may want to park at the end of the area for the gym or Petco, so you don't have to deal with the traffic and back ups in that little lot. read more

We waited for at least 30 minutes to get our food I asked the waiter if I should put in another order for ribs he said no it won't take long to get more. Well every time even when I put in order as soon as got a meager 3 bones it was 15-20 minutes to get more? The worst part was my daughters chicken sandwich (lucky she looked under the bun) had a WHOLE thigh bone in her sandwich???? She would have broken a tooth or choked. On one reorder i ordered rubbed ribs and corn, I received sweet and smokey ribs and corn bread? lol The service was one of the worse I have ever had in dinning.
