Steak n Shake has always been a fav of mine and this location was pretty good. I haven't been to this location in a few years but it was good. The only negative thing was the floor felt greasy and sticky. When you walk in, you place your order at the kiosk, get your receipt and wait for your order to be called. For our party of 4 we ordered the $4 meals and they came out pretty fast and hot. I like that they had the option to get my burger lettuce wrapped, since I'm on a diet. The staff were very helpful and came to clean/clear the table once we were done eating. For a quick meal this was a great place to stop by. read more

While they improved the packaging so it didn't get sloppy and wet all over the bag, and improved the straw for the shake so you could actually drink it, they seriously drew back on the quality of the burger. I ordered a double with everything (mustard, ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles), I got a dry couple of patties with one slice of cheese (they used to give two) with just a small dollop of ketchup and nothing else. This location is very conveniently located, it is right on East Colonial Drive and is convenient to not only the travelers on East Colonial Drive, but to the residents of Waterford Lakes, Avalon Parks and the slew of housing developments on the east side of Orlando, but it is also convenient to the University of Central Florida (UCF), so I am sure both students and faculty might find themselves here. The pandemic has transformed Steak 'n Shake into a much more efficient, kiosk/counter service place instead of the gawd awful waiter/waitress place where you'd wait and wait and wait for someone to come to your table. The self serve refills are also much preferred. Instead of sitting and waiting, you order via kiosks at the front of the store. I'm guessing they have an app too, but I didn't check. You order via touch screen and it's actually pretty slick and easy. I was impressed as it's come a long way since the early 90's Taco Bell kiosks they tested in my hometown area. Just a note as a few years ago, I ordered a 7x7 (7 patties, 7 slices of cheese) and paid $9.99 for it which was a pretty good deal. I didn't see it on the touch screen so not sure if it's still doable, which is probably a good thing. I absolutely hate steak fries and these are the complete opposite. Shoe String fries are the best other than the fact they get cold quicker. The fries on this night were hot and fresh and I didn't need ketchup to make them go down. Burger King fries definitely need Ketchup or Ranch Dressing or something to get them down. Not here! The burger was good too. The tomato on my burger was photo close-up worthy and may be one of the largest, nicest tomato slices I've seen served ever. Everything was fresh and delicious. I think they have milkshakes too, but didn't get one here. In the past, I've seen the ones that they dress up like a sundae and they always look good. They have a wide variety of shake options. I don't know how often I'd come back here as their "healthy" options are very limited, but I felt like cheat day was worth it for once, and at other places, I've felt cheated out of a cheat day with crappy food. Stopped in with my husband for a quick dinner. We have always enjoyed the food and service and hadn't been there in a while. We're surprised we had to order at the kiosk and pick up the food ourselves.We had always had table service before. Restaurant was clean, bathroom was acceptable. Got the food after a short wait, waited a bit more for the shakes. Shakes were good, burgers messy to eat. They forgot my bacon, but gave me extra when I went up and told them. Husband's onion rings were over fried but edible. However, three bites in, I found a hair in my burger. There was a manager sitting at a nearby table and heard about my no bacon and hair in burger, did nothing to fix the situation. Didn't even bother taking the burger back again for a second time. The chili cheese fries were massive but the chili is not as I remembered, pretty bad, actually. Paid quite a bit for bad food. The food has always been phenomenal here and greatly packaged and kept safe. But there is such a huge downside, the inside of the diner is just gross. Everything is really dirty and greasy, it feels as if tables are never cleaned and they expect the customers to wipe them off. The fries were soggier than wet bread left in the sink after a Thanksgiving meal. 3. The fries were placed in a large soft drink cup instead of the proper holder 4. The milkshake was crammed under a regular soft drink lid instead of the proper cone. - As a result, the cherry was pushing up on the lid on the car ride home which ended with it leaking since the lid came undone. Genuinely, it'd be perfectly okay for them to screw all this up if these inbreds just let us know, "Hey, we all share a collective 1 brain cell under the Steak n Shake hive mind". Then they would at least have an excuse. Bonus Points: The Steak n Shake app ordering experience is painful. Hideous UI, it doesn't update your changes to your profile name and will keep whatever old name that's on your profile for your order resulting in more confusion. Made the mistake of going to this Steak N Shake on 2/20/22 at 9 p.m. I had to tell them (Anneli) my order three times. I got my order, but they forgot to hand me my choc. milkshake, which was probably both our fault. I did a u-turn, and returned, and parked my car, and walked up to the window. You would of thought I was speaking Latin or something, because when I asked for the shake, they just stood there like zombies. I asked three times for the shake, and they just basically stood there and shut the drive-thru window on me. Finally, I got the shake, but it was PEANUT BUTTER. I couldn't tell that until I drove home. Meanwhile, the ladies were amazing rude to me. I wasn't the one that made two mistakes - not having the shake ready for me, and replacing it with the wrong flavor. Out of the blue, one of the girls screamed at me, "Don't you ever call me a fucking bitch again!" OMG, I NEVER EVER said that to anyone, nor would I. The manager came, pulled the crazy girl off of the window, and tried to calm things down. Hardly the world's greatest SnS. It took an unusually long time to be seated. There were plenty of open tables (all dirty), and a number of staff standing idly behind the counter. More than one person made eye contact but no one approached us for awhile. We finally get seated and place our order. My wife ordered a meal that comes with a cheeseburger and shake. My wife asks for no cheese on the burger, and says that she wants the shake after we eat. That way we don't have to choose between the shake melting or the food going cold. The server says 'sure.' A few minutes later she brings my wife's shake, and a few minutes after that she brings the rest of the food, and -- you guessed it -- cheese on my wife's burger. So we sent the burger back for a new one, and shared the already half melted shake. Can someone explain how the new burger was lukewarm on arrival? On top of that, one of the onion rings still had cheese from the last burger attached to it. Thankfully my garlic burger and fries came out just as they should have. With better customer service, professionalism and attention to detail, this could have been a 4-5 star review. We walked in and waited a very long time to be seated. I could see 6 people in the grill area that saw us, may of them just standing around and chatting. There were several employees in the dining room that saw us but we were not greeted or spoken to. I got the Bacon n' Cheese Single with Fries, a salad and a Cookie for $4. The burger was really on point! Not at all greasy and the fries were piping hot. Salad was fresh and the cookie was very moist. He ended up getting the Jalapeño Crunch Burger with Fries and thoroughly enjoyed it. I stopped in here for coffee and was not planning on blogging about today BUT... While sitting at the counter having coffee I observed something that was worth sharing... The Manager was working the register and I was talking to him about the power being out and why I stopped in for coffee. He inadvertently shortchanged a customer while cashing her out. After she noticed the error she returned and after counting down the drawer, it was found that an error was made. He owned up to it and immediately apologized for the error. Additionally she was given some coupons that will save her over $10. She and I were talking while she was waiting for the drawer to be counted and then after he handled the situation. She was also very pleased with how the manager handled the situation and left here a very happy person. I have said a million times that anybody can sell you a widget but it is the service after the fact that will keep people coming back.
