Love the food and the fact they use beef tallow instead of seed oils. It's self order kiosks which is a bit clunky. It may reduce the number of staff but increases the time to order. It wasn't terribly busy but the wait was enormous. The manager said it was because they had families ordering combo meals. The store is relatively clean but could be better. The inability to handle the lunch rush is a management issue. The cooktop, if used efficiently, is fully capable of keeping up with timely orders. Look no further than Freddies. I love Steak 'n Shake but this one struggles. It won't stop me from visiting but might not make it my first choice. read more

Tried to contact this business several times regarding the gross shakes they served us and promised to refund and have been ghosted every single time. The worst food ever, everything tastes the same because of the tallow and it's nasty. The shakes were not made, they were taken from a freezer already pre-made and tasted horrible, like Freon. We spoke with the manager and he said we would be refunded within 2-3 days, but I haven't gotten anything and it's been almost a month now. they used to have awesome food and shakes at this location, but since they've now gone to kiosks for ordering and no real customer service, everything sucks. I was so disappointed in the food taste and especially the shakes since we weren't able to drink them at all. And now I've been waiting for a refund and trying to contact the store and getting nothing from them at all. Don't Go Here! There is no one running the place - you have an automated ordering system with a touch screen that doesn't work. You have to use a QR code to "unlock" the drink machine to get a drink. This place might as well be closed with how the service is, and how empty it is. Also, they limit you on refills - the drink machine only let me refill 1 1/2 time. Wouldn't let me get a fill third cup. Also, everything is sticky and feels like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. read more

First time customer. Service was excellent. Everything looked very CLEAN. A nice young lady helped me to use the machine to order, and showed me how to dispense my drink with the QR code. I had not dined in at this location in at least a couple of years, but am dissatisfied with the setup they have going on inside. Instead of still being full service, this location has a food truck feel. It is now order and pay at a kiosk without a human being so much as greeting us (or even speaking to us the entire time we were there), and when the food is done, your number is called to pick up at the counter. I only saw 2 individuals working at the time I visited, and my daughter and I were the only customers inside. The food itself was fine. I got the chili mac which was served in a paper lined styrofoam container.. I had to be quick to remove the paper because even walking from the counter to my table was enough time for the sauce to start being soaked up by the paper lining. "They Would NOT Know What Service Was If It Bit them in the Tail" I went in a week ago to just have a Milkshake as they advertise for their Happy Hour. The Waiter took 16 minutes from when I ordered the Shake until he got it to me. He never brought me any Napkins nor Straws, and acted as if he was put off by only wanting the Milkshake at 3:30 in the afternoon. I said something to the Male Manager who apologized and comped the Shake to which I told him that was not necessary. Today I went in to have Lunch at about 2:30 and ordered a Double Cheeseburger and Fries; plus another Milkshake. The Burger and Fries were out in about 2-3 minutes which tells me they did NOT cook it fresh for me and the Fries were barely warm. Then they brought the Shake and it was nowhere near filling the glass, with the whipped cream barely visible on Top. Bottomline, it looked nothing like the Pictures they show you to get you interested and ordering. I spoke to a Female Manager who told me that the Pictures were just representative and the Shake being some 1-1/2" below the glass was just the way they make them. First time here and our experience was less than satisfactory. Was seated next to the server counter and the 3 servers that stood next to us the entire time were loud, rude and unprofessional. Each of them would talk about people at different tables and would label them as table # .....whatever they were. One server kept calling a woman at a table ghetto. Another server was very showing all of the guests how upset she was about serving a table with some less than great facial expressions. We heard her telling her coworkers that she wasn't going to serve them because she had a party to go to. Our server brought our food and the check at the same time, we had to ask for silverware and he never came back to ask if we needed anything or if it was to our liking. We were able to ask for shakes after having to call our waiter over. When the shakes arrived, both were only 2/3rds full....disappointing. The burgers were good and the prices were very reasonable. However, these servers need to learn the basics of customer service and maybe some sensitivity training. read more

Out of the four burgers we ordered, two of them were NOT prepared as described on the menu. One was missing cheese, lettuce, and tomato; the other was supposed to have grilled onions, but was served with raw onions instead. I had requested to sub a side-salad for the fries but was told the restaurant had no lettuce. In the past, a hefty amount of fries were served with burger plates; today each of us had 8-10 fries only. There were no napkins or silverware on our table and the server was confused that we would want those. Looks like this was our final visit to this location. read more

Several plates were on the serving counter from the cook, waiting for several minutes to be taken to patrons, which the servers continued to ignore. It looked like the servers were more interested in socializing than doing their job. The female server gave me major attitude as I explained my order was wrong and not as stated ON THE MENU and tried to make me believe I didn't read the menu correctly. We asked for the manager, and he didn't look surprised that we had an issue with the food. He ultimately took away the receipt for our food and told us no charge for our meals. As often as we go to Steak 'n Shake we have never had bad service, so I don't understand some the reviews. The place is always very clean too. I left Steak and Shake tonight horrified at the level of service I received. We'd been in the car on the way home 2.5 hours and I needed to use the restroom. We'd already eaten, but we missed the exit with the gas stations so I thought we'd stop at Steak and Shake to relieve ourselves and get a shake. We ordered 2 shakes, then sat down and waited... And waited... And waited. During this time, there were two tables with patrons in the restaurant, so there was really no excuse for the shakes to take that long to come out. I saw two girls standing in the corner literally the whole time doing nothing. There were plenty of employees there, but the only one who seemed like he was doing anything was the cook. The others seemed as if they were trying to hide out in the back. Finally, after (I kid you not) 25 minutes, we went to the counter to ask about the shakes. We were just ready to get home at that point. It took 5 minutes for anyone to even come to the register to acknowledge us. You could see the employees glance at us, then walk with their head down to look 'busy' so they wouldn't have to come have any interaction with paying customers. Finally, someone came over and we asked if we could just have a refund since it didn't seem like the shakes were coming anytime soon. The girl got Lakesha (the manager who, by the way, is the person who took our order) to give us our refund. Glancing back at the counter in the kitchen, I saw 3 or 4 shakes sitting back there. I asked her if maybe two of those were ours. I said we'd take them if they were already made, that way they would not have to refund us and we'd get to have the shakes. She just said "Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know" and wouldn't go check and see. It would have taken her two seconds, and she wouldn't have lost out on $8 to a refund. Obviously that was too much effort, because she just said "Sorry". There was eye rolling and attitude from the staff. I am not the type to write awful reviews, but this complete lack of customer service prompted me to let others know about it. It's not the fact that we didn't get our order, but the obvious annoyance that the staff portrayed at serving customers that made this experience a bad one. It took 70 min to get our food and pay, so I'd say the style of food is fast, but the service is far from it. It took a few minutes for the manager to bus empty tables and seat us. It took a few more minutes to place our order with the waiter (burgers, fries, shakes). And then we waited. And waited. And listened to a gazillion kids singing, screaming, and whining. Eventually, our lacy thin and crispy burgers showed up with their greasy shoestring fries. No shakes. We finally found the waiter to ask about our shakes. He went to check on them and gave us some explanation about a back-up. By the time we were finished eating, he came back with one of the two shakes, explaining that there really wasn't a back up -- he'd just forgotten to put in an order for them. Excellent food, awful service all around. I love Steak N Shake; I grew up on it, which is why it pains me to give such a bad review to one of my favorite places. First star goes to price. 6 of us ate full meals with drinks and shakes for under 60 bucks. That's a deal. Second star goes the food. All the steakburgers were great, as usual. The cheese fries, chili, and shakes were on point! Next 3 stars are lost on service and cleanliness. Our server, Katelyn, was either very new or just not cut out for waiting tables. Being a server requires attention and a sense of urgency - both were seriously lacking. I'd never seen someone have so much trouble with drink orders. 2 waters, 2 Cokes, and a Dr. Pepper. Simple enough, right? I think she was writing the entire word down (W... A... T... E... R...) with the amount of time she spent on her note pad. When she brought the drinks, she had to ask who had which. The entire meal went that way. She had no clue who ordered which meal and quizzed the table as she brought them out. We didn't have silverware when we needed it. I ordered chili and asked that it come out prior to the meal. I would have been happy if it arrived at all, but I had to ask for it a second time. The server forgot. When she brought anything to the table, she bolted like she had somewhere else to be! We had to flag her down multiple times after she brought something and immediately left: spoon for the chili, refills of drinks, etc. The same kind of delay with the drinks occurred with the shakes. Server had no clue who ordered which, they took forever, and when they finally got there, the cups were sticky and covered in milkshake on the outside. Lastly, there were enough customers there today generating enough profit at lunch time to pay a plumber to fix the sink in the men's room. When you own or operate a restaurant, you call a plumber the instant you have a problem. There's just no excuse for having out-of-order signs in the bathroom for more than a day. The sign appears to have been there for weeks. UPDATE! I almost forgot the wonderful experience we had with the cashier. If the servers are told to bring one long check to a table of 6, the cashiers should have no trouble at all splitting the checks. This is always how we've handled checks at SNS for my entire life, but today the cashier was dumbfounded. The receipts even have "seats" so you can say, "I need to pay for seats 3 and 5" to make it easier. This just further confused her and caused mayhem on the way out. There's been one of these in my town forever and I've never managed to get to it. And being a life long Texan, I've never gotten up to the mid-west and checked it out. The steak part was great, super yummy burger. Western barbecue burger, cheese, pickles, fried onions, yummy meat. And I'm digging those fries, skinny and cooked perfectly, just the right amount of salt. Not sure about that shake though. Super sweet, like too much so. And tasting like phony sweetener, a bunch of aspartame in there. But the meat was good, and that is what I was in there for after all. So in the end, not terrible. read more
