I've always had great service & perfectly good food @ this location! The Cheeseburger is cooked exactly like I like 'em....not too thick not too thin....NOT perfectly round to fit the bun.....fresh....just the Right Amount of Veggies. Yeah , 4 stars is a lot for fast food, but really this is for their service, not the meal. Steak & Shake is one step up from fast food only because you are seated, and get a waitress. Otherwise prices & food are the same as BK or Culver's. Their fries are terrific if you like the thin crispy sort (like McDs frex). I usually prefer ranch fries, or crinkle-cut, but a change of pace is good too. I ordered a diet coke & a $5.49 jalapeño crunch burger w/fries. Next followed a comedy of errors, all in my favor. First they brought a chicken sandwich instead of the burger. It was still jalapeño crunch - just the wrong meat. While I like most ways of serving bird, i am bitterly opposed to chicken sandwiches. The staff brought a new, hot burger while I munched on the fries. But when the burger came , it was with an all-new set of fries! I couldn't even finish them! Waitress asked if I wanted a refill on my soda. I said no but lo and behold another soda appeared anyway (they have free refills - i just wasn't that thirsty). Then when i went to pay, the manager took my drink's tab (a princely $1.79) off for the "trouble" I'd had?! In summary really good service, and food at the upper end of the fast food spectrum give it the 4 stars. I will say i have never liked their breakfasts. We went to Steak & Shake to get a shake! It's sort of sad that you have to ask for "real ice-cream" in your shake if you want it made that way. Anyways, the flavor selection was large and the shakes were actually delicious. I will say that this place knows how to make a fine Milkshake, so please do not hesitate to order one from them if that's what you want. My wife's order was actually wrong, which is another bummer, but it tasted so good she didn't care anyways. I think that should speak pretty strongly about the quality of the milkshakes here. All in all, I will be back by when I need a delicious shake, but I think I will continue to skip eating any food here. read more

Horrible service!! Took 15 minutes to get to the window. I was thinking that the cars in front of me must have had a lot to order. No I was wrong!!! I ordered two burgers. You would think the burgers would be waiting on me and my wife. NO!! After 15 more minutes at the window with no one telling me about why it's taking so long, I decide to knock on the glass to get a little service. I've been there 2 times recently and have had bad, slow service (not during busy times) This last time we went we waited almost an hour for the waitress to come back and tell us that our order never made it to the kitchen and we'd need to reorder. In years past they had one of the best quick breakfasts in town. Not now. We sent back everything, and ordered new items and they were barely edible. If you're looking for some quick burgers and fries, don't go here. Expect your food, regardless of how busy it is, to take at least thirty minutes. We have just left the one in Rockwall. We will not be back. I ordered the peppermint milkshake. I got a strawberry milkshake with a few crushed peppermint pieces on top of the whipped cream. My granddaughter order the birthday cake milkshake. She got a vanilla milkshake with some sprinkles on the whipped cream. She ordered the chicken fingers. Two were so hard she couldn't eat them. She was able to eat 3 out of the 5 so we didn't send them back. She did say the French fries were good. My daughter ordered the steak hot dog. She had to return it because it was so salty she could not eat it. She got her money back on that one. I ordered the chili 5ways. I returned it and got my money back. The beans were so dried out they were inedible. We will not be back. After we left there, we went to another restaurant where we were able to actually eat the food. My advice if you are thinking of eating here-----DONT!!!! read more

Ordered the Jalepeno burger and the BBQ burger with fries at 5:29pm and received the order at 6:01pm It took 32 minutes to receive lukewarm burgers and room temperature fries. Taste of the burgers was just ok but the fries were pretty much inedible being that they were almost cold and starting to dry up. It wasn't only me, everyone was staring at the kitchen waiting for their order. Went here for the first time and just had the Mushroom & Swiss burger. It was ok... nothing to brag about. Old fashioned style pressed burger a little on the greasy side. Couldn't finish it all (for the sake of my arteries) but flavor was decent. I'll try one of their shakes next time and see how that goes. read more

Walked in at 3 am wanting breakfast, which is not served until 6. The place was a mess. 5 dirty tables with a spilt shake on the floor, that still wasn't cleaned up by the time we left. I just moved into town and went for a late night snack.. I got the portobello burger which was amazing and super hot by the time I got home to enjoy it. 5 star fast food! But the cashier was not very friendly.. I didn't get her name but it was 2/28 @ 10:15pm.. She made me feel like I was a burden to take my order- I simply asked for a #7 and she kept saying what? Where to start? First off the table was cleaned with a dirty rag to the point that the 4 year old was using a napkin to try and clean the grease marks the rag left. I've never waited so long for food in my life. Literally! When the food did come it looked atrocious. My order was wrong. The waitress tried telling me that's what I ordered. Well the burger was great. Fries cold, asked for seasoning and it was put on cold fries so it was a powder that just sat on fries. Asked for another order of fries and they were same fries. I only eat bad like this once a week so for it to suck really sucks! Table dirty, waited 8 min to be seated with nobody in front of us. Once seated we waited 20 mins to get our drinks and our order. Then we waited another painstakingly 45 mins for our food. It wasn't just our table, several other tables were mad that they weren't being waited on. The staff was friendly but no one was in a hurry. We had our 16month old teething son and he was hungry so this made the trip pretty much unbearable. We normally eat at the Ihop next door but they had a long wait and we had a S&S coupon. Every time I bring food home from the drive through, it is wrong. I enjoy the food, but quite honestly I am done with the drive through service. Either the service is too slow or the orders are incorrect. Just makes for a poor dining experience. Eat in, but never take out. Tonight 2 cheddar burgers ordered plain, came with all the crap my kids won't eat. Ordered two shakes a malt and a coke. Received 4 shakes without knowing which was the malt because they were not marked. Realized the mistake on the way home so had to stop and buy another coke. Cheddar burgers are placed in styrofoam container. The container is too large for the bag, so both burgers were flipped sideways with the cheese spilling out. It became obvious that if the chain doesn't have bags to hold their containers that here are more serious issues than crappy service. read more

Absolutely terrible service! Like seriously? We got our food in a timely manner, however the waitress was awful. She didn't check on us even once, and then they made the elderly lady take care of us. The poor lady was obviously having a difficult time getting around, yet still our original waitress just stood in the back chuckling with her friends. Then, when we said something to the manager, the manager acted like she didn't care at all. How can you seriously run a place that poorly. This is ROCKWALL for heaven sake! I just had the worst experience at this location Me and my friends frequent often, we ordered steak burger shooters and chicken strips to go with close to 40 minute wait time, when we finally got our food the burgers were cold and slopped together and also included the chef's hair as a garnish...(no gloves and no hair net )not to mention there were barely any fries with the "meal" hardly half full. Sorry can't give this place a good review due to the service, or should I say lack of service. A man and his daughter were seated right before us. They were being served their food when the waitress finally came over to our table to take our drink order. I would say we waited at least 10 minutes after we were seated. This place doesn't seem like it is the cleanest, but I don't have anything really to base that off of other than the straw wrapper that was on the seat of our booth. We placed our order or so I thought and the waitress came back and asked if we knew what he wanted. I make my kids order and he was mumbling but my mom asked the waitress if she got it and she nodded. Time to cash out and I had to wait several minutes again. I ordered some shakes to go and those came in a timely manner. I saw quite a few employees wandering around/ standing around. Having grown up in the Midwest, Steak & Shake was a staple growing up - probably the only fast food I ever saw my dad eat, so it's where we went when we were looking for fast food. Now fast forward to today. Food was still good - though either the burgers have gotten greasier or my grease-tolerance has slipped. The fries are like no other - skinny, hot and delicious. The chocolate shakes are great, thick and flavorful - and my daughter swears by the haf-n-half orange and vanilla shakes (says it tastes like a dreamsickle...). Service is waaay better than most fast food joints. It's sort of a cross, as you sit at your table and place your order with a server, but it's still fast food in flavor and style. Servers are friendly and managers seem genuinely interested in your satisfaction. Overall, a solid "4" within the context of what it is - a fast food place. Enjoy! read more

I came here around 6am passing through. The gent on the night shift was incredibly nice, and I didn't have the problems some have complained of.
