I have been in this location twice in three months, once about 930pm and another around midnight. Neither times were they busy. Both times the food was prepared as we ordered it, and was yummy, but arrived a LONG time after it should have. They seem to always bump in-house oders for the drive through orders, which is okay to a point but a burger and fries should not take 35 mins to arrive at midnight when they are dead! This past Saturday, we had t waitress seat us, and tell us our waitress would be by in a few... this was perfectly fine. 15 minutes later she still hadn't come over, still no drinks even, so the same sweet waitress who seated us stepped up to help. The waitress who should have been taking care of us arrived at the table with our rinks without even an 'I'm sorry about that'. We ordered. A very nice guy brought our shakes, and the sweet waitress refilled our waters. After about 30 mins we asked about our food, and the sweet waitress went to check on it. It arrived about 8 or 9 mins later with a crabby, 'here we go' from the 'assigned waitress' who was STILL wearing the drive through headset (very annoying). We ate and then had to wait for a long time for the waitress to realize we needed our check. Annoyed with the lack of service, I tipped the assigned waitress and walked over to the sweet one, who really waited on us two bucks, in front of the manager. Praying the next visit will not include a waitress for the tables inside who also runs the rive through... I truly believe our order never got enterd until the other chic checked on it... sad, because I love thier food! read more

Doesn't matter which one you go to this place has good cheap food terrible terrible service. They don't bring drinks until after you get your food. Don't expect a refill, napkins, or someone to check you out when your finished. They all just stand in the back and talk and look at you. Almost walked out because no one would come to the check out desk for 10mins they just looked at us and kept talking. Hate this place. So my friend and I come to steak and shake and get seated in the very back by the bathrooms. We sat there a good 10 minutes without a drink order being placed. I had not eaten all day so I was extremely hungry. Let me just say, that I'm a regular customer and I had never seen such bad customer in my entire life. I would seriously consider not coming back, however whenever I do go I always say hello to the staff that I've become close with. Debbie is a great manager( I didn't see her tonight or I would have told her what happened ) I also love Cain! He's the sweetest waiter I've ever met in any restaurant. Kat is an excellent cook and she always has a smile on her face. Everyone else there sucks though. You would have to pay me to eat here, and well, someone did - haha. AKA my wife got $50 in gift cards ---- so we tried it out --- and oh man. The drive through line took 20 minutes! 20 minutes!!! And they were not that busy. I understand their burgers are custom made, but sheesh, this is not 1930... drive through's are supposed to be somewhat fast! Also, the food was medicore. The fry's were not that good & the burger was just OK --- nothing to get excited about. My kids wouldn't hardly eat the soggy fries [I got home in 5 minutes] with their meal, and so I fed the leftover fries to our two dogs. Tonight I stopped to pick up a couple of shakes and some tenders for myself and my brother. I know that I'm going to have a slight wait. However tonight was different. I get to the window handed over my card and received my shakes. She handed back my card and walked away from the window. I sat there for five minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me. After no one thought to ask what I was waiting on after several people walked past the window, I pulled back around. When I explained that I'd been sitting waiting on the tenders they told me to pull back around. The entire time I was waiting the bag of food was sitting off to the side. I got no apology for the wait and inconvenience. Honestly I wouldn't go back to it, if it wasn't the only place that is directly on the way home from work that is open when I get off. read more

I have eaten here many times and each time has been progressively more disappointing. Maybe one day I'll learn my lesson. Service at this location is ALWAYS slow or non existent. If you order a shake be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes and then have it come out melted and looking NOTHING like the picture. This place is truly awful. I love their food, but the last two times I have been here they were terrible. We waited 20-30 minutes to be seated, with the line literally out the door. The whole time we stood there, only one group got seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. Eventually we left, after two other groups walked out & told us they had been seated for 30 minutes without even having their order taken. At one point, a waiter walked up & rudely told us it was going to take a while, because today is a "long wait day"...? Whatever that means. At the end of the day, I have wasted 30 minutes waiting & I have a hungry 6 year old who is devastated now because I had been promising her a Steak n Shake burger & milkshake all day. Since I can't select zero stars, it only gets one star from me. I was at this location last night after an event. Our table had waited over an hour to get water. And we got our food at about 12:10am. My order was correct but there were 2 orders at my table that weren't correct. I won't be going back any time soon because of how slow it was. Food is good but the SERVICE sucks!!! Everytime i ordered food in the drive thru, my order is ALWAYS WRONG!! I would always order combo # 8 and would switch my drink to cookies and cream shake....by the time i get home which is on the other side of town, about 15 miles away...(I would open my bag @ home because I really do not like the smell of onions in my car).. it would be too late for me to correct the problem and I ended calling up the store and complaining and talking to Debbie, one of the shift managers! And when I dine in on some other time, it takes a long time as well. This could be the worst service at any restaurant ever. Why? Because nobody cares. Understaffed, poor management, bad hires, low pay, poor working conditions....all of the above..who knows, but other places figure it out. There were at least 5 waitresses last time we went...3 spend at least 5 minutes at the window entering order and the other 2 spend 5-10 minutes and the drink station. After that they might come over and take your order, maybe not. The food was OK, but it would be better to order at the drive through, wait, and then come inside and eat it. That would take 10 minutes instead of 30-40 minutes to get a hamburger and grilled cheese. After that, it took a wait of 5 minutes just pay and get out of there because they were bussing tables with nobody waiting in line for a table. read more

First time here, heard the food was amazing here...First it took them about 5 minutes just to "seat" us (even though this is a burger joint). Our drinks were delivered wrong and those took at least 10-15 mins to come out correctly,at this point we were more than ready to order. The waitress took our order kindly but that's when things went downhill; We sat there for a whopping hour on our food! Half of our meals tasted like it was sitting out for an hour and it was very unpleasant...we repeatedly asked for the manager and after several negotiations, we walked away with our meals comped due to the horrendous amount of time it took. I love Steak & Shake, but normally the service sucks...no matter which S&S I've gone to, the same...this S&S is no exception. I really, really wanted S&S so I decided to give it a chance. If I wasn't seated fairly quickly, I'd just move along to some other place, BUT, we got seated promptly, with a friendly and courteous waiter. Our food order was taken quickly, hot and fresh food out in a timely manner. Things were going GREAT! Then, it went down hill so fast! Drinks needed to be filled and they had our server running drive-thru at this point. No one came to check on us again. Finally we flagged down another girl that just happened to come out of the kitchen. The whole time the manager was in the kitchen not doing much of anything. Ugh! It was going so well. When it got time to leave, we had to go to the counter to ask for our check. Poor guy. Why was he running drive-thru AND tables inside if he couldn't handle all of that? I guess I'll just have to wait until I just really want S&S to go back. :( read more

However, this location on Rockwall is hands down the worst service I have ever experienced - and I've lived in 6 different states. I agree! I ate there last night. Stood at the front, waiting to be seated a few minutes before being acknowledged, and the a young lady showed me to a booth. After that everything was fine, placed my order, received my food. The food was fine. Then I went to pay for my food. Several people were congregating by the grill. Occasionally someone would yell cash and ignore me! Then another customer came to pay. Something someone yells "cash". I pulled out my phone, googled the store, and called them. Then you could hear the phone ringing in the whole place. One of the guys that has been yelling "cash" answers the phone. I tell him, I'm at the register and would like to pay, find someone to help me!. He was clueless, I had to tell him to turn his head to the right, then tell him a little further! Then he saw that I was calling him. He hangs up the phone and yells "cash" and tried to ignore me! At this point I was yelling at him to go get someone, He kept saying someone was coming. I asked him his name, he said chief as he walked away. Another young man said he would go get someone, finally two ladies came. She did comp my meal, but I wasn't there for a free meal, I was there for a pleasant experience. This may explain all the Steak N Shakes that have closed in the area. read more
