I have over the course of this summer given this establishment a chane and they have never failed to disappoint me. Tonight there was 3 cars in front of me at the drive thru. It took me 50 minutes to get my food and that was after 8:30 pm. I have had half orders served. A cup break when I put the straw in a root beer float, the wrong sandwich served, a rude waitress on the order line, a cashier at the drive through put her gloved hand into her hair and scratch, use that hand to run the register, and continue to handle orders. No excuse will appease any of this. read more

We have been here on multiple occasions and the service is always very slow! Today we stopped after not being there for few months and we waited 15 minutes to be seated with no acknowledgement. There were plenty of open tables but not enough wait staff?? There was a gentleman who waited at counter for 10 min trying to find someone so he could pay. There appeared to be no manager or supervisor to organize service. After being a long line of people to be seated (and none of us getting seats or acknowledgment) we left. I love steak and shake in general but this one was just terrible. I watched waiters come by us and look but not order and it took 30 minutes for a worker to come over. I might be over exaggerating but I think 30 minutes for someone to ask me if I want a water is a lot of time. This establishment's service is horrendous. If I could give this negative stars I would. Many employees inattentive and the ones that were decent were carrying the restaurant. We got our food before our milkshakes. I waited 40 minutes for a milkshake it was ridiculous. I work in fast food that should not happen. last Saturday evening about midnight, my wife and I went to your establishment. We were seated, sat there 20 minutes and were not waited on. Another couple came in and received the same service. a group of young black kids came in, we seated and within 5 minutes they were waited on. I stood up and rather loudly I said 'Hell No" and as I walked out I told the waitress that the people who came in before the kids deserved better service. She told me it wasn't her section. My thought was the other waitress deserves to be fired for not doing her job, the manager deserves to be fired for letting this happen. The other couple walked out with us. I have always liked Steak and Shake, but I'll never go in there again. If this is the type of service I will get get you've lost my business forever. I do not live in Sandusky anymore but am from there. I frequent there often and can eat other places. read more

Was just in drive thru at steak and shake and they are usually slow but today I waited 30 minutes before we got to the window then she doesn't know our order and when she slides my card hands it back with no receipt gives us a bag with the wrong food that was all cold didn't give us drinks then gave me attitude cause I didn't know what I was charged for because of the fact I received no receipt needless to say we got our money back which was guess work at best now I have to wait for my bank statement to even find out how much I've been charged absolutely rediculous read more

This is the first time I have ever been to a Steak n Shake and I was very let down. My boyfriend went to this location a few days ago and we just went back today in a party of six. The other day, they waited to get sat while there was only one other party in the restaurant, along with many dirty tables, and the manager told them there would be an hour wait. When they were served their food it was cold. Today, we waited over 20 minutes to be sat, along with three other parties crammed in the entryway. There were only 3 servers on the floor, no hostess, and no manager on duty. There were many dirty tables along with a good number of clean ones as well. The party in front of us had left because they had been there so long. When we were finally sat (at a table that had been clean the entire time we were standing there), the server did not come to our table for almost ten minutes. Meanwhile, we watched as tables were sat and not served. I also watched food go up in the window and sit there for very long periods of time (18 minutes was the most time I counted) before being served to the tables. As we were sitting, more and more people were entering the restaurant and not being sat. I counted about 20 people waiting at one point, while there were plenty of empty tables. The servers had no sense of urgency, seemed uninterested when talking to customers, and were clearly overwhelmed. We sat for about 40 minutes before we were served our food, and some of it was cold. Also, we had ordered everything together (drinks, shakes, and dinners) and the shakes had still not come out by the time we had finished our dinners. When the server brought the bill, she had our shakes in to-go cups and apologized, saying "When I went into the back to get your shakes, the person that was supposed to be making shakes was cleaning up and trying to leave!" When we paid, we voiced our concerns to the person on the register (the same person that was cooking on the grill), and we got our shakes for free. Unfortunately, this was the only positive thing about the night. I was very disappointed with my first Steak n Shake experience and will not likely go again. :( read more

I would give this 0 stars if I could. My family and I stopped at this Steak and Shake drive-thru after a long day at Cedar Point and we were there for almost an hour. We gave the lady our orders after waiting for 10 minutes for her to tell us to go ahead- and then was told they were all out of noodles for my chili 3 way. I then ordered chicken tenders and had to wait a half hour for them. When we received our food, it was cold and they forgot our milkshakes. I felt bad for the lady working because she was so nice and clearly stressed out. I believe Steak and Shakes are always understaffed and don't give the right training to their employees. I have been to the one in Akron that had to close at 11 PM once when I was there because they were too busy and didn't have enough people working. Stay far away from this place. read more

The food is good but you'll have to wait 1 hour 30 minutes to get it. Parking wasn't that bad basically what you'll expect out of an average restaurant and the waiters/waitresses won't pay attention to you. And the worst part one time I found a hair in my food which was disgusting. My sister and I ordered stuff with guacamole and when the server gave us our meals she said they were making more and it'd be out soon. We ate our fries and waited and asked again when it'd be ready and she said the same thing. Finally after our entire group had eaten, but my sister and I. The server came back and said that they were actually out of it. So we waited to eat our food, didn't even get the guacamole when I ordered a guacamole burger, and by the time we ate our food it was cold. On top of that, they didn't put the cake pieces in my sister's shake and even told her about it, but didn't fix it or make her a new one. Steak N Shake is normally a restaurant we enjoy, however the service was horrible. We were in town for a long weekend and went around 9pm on a Sunday evening. Upon walking in the restaurant, they were at 75% capacity. After waiting a couple of minutes and seeing the couple ahead of us not be acknowledged, we asked if we could sit at the counter and the worker said yes. We waited another 5 minutes before finally flagging down a manager to ask if we could be waited on. She did bring us menus a few minutes later, and took our order. We ordered a burger, a grilled chicken salad, and a chilli, no shakes. 15 minutes in the grill guys in front of us were caught up. When asked if they were always this busy at 9pm on a sunday evening, he sais actually they are slow and usually never get a break. At about the 25 minute mark we got up to leave, as noone had checked on us, refilled drinks, or brought us our food. As we reached the door, our food arrived. My dressing was suppossed to be on the side, but overall the food was just like every other steak n shake. We also witnessed customers waiting 5 minutes at the cash register to pay. They seemed to not have enough wait staff. Many other customers were obviously just as frustrated with poor service as we were. read more

Absolutely horrible experience tonight. We travel for our baseball and softball tournaments and we decided to check this place out. While we seated right away tonight, we watched four other families come in. We waited 20 minutes and the other families that came in after us were taken care. We went to complain to the manager ( Kayla) and she told us she would look into who was waiting and take care of the matter. She continued to talk to other customers and we left. This was horrible and a very disappointing experience. Off season and the SLOWEST drive thru I have ever been in my entire life! After the obligatory "one moment please" we waited an additional 10 minutes before having to say "hello" to get their attention, and an additional 5 min til atrempting to revive the crack smoker working the drive through to no avail. An additional 5 minutes passed..."one moment please".....again we waited. FINALLY after 20minutes our order was taken. When we went to pay, the girl working the window didnt even know we hadnt paid for our order. We could have walked with free food, which we should have had after the painful wait. Whoever owns this franchise is a moron & needs to hire people who have more than 2 brain cells or can keep off the pipe. Clearly the workers in this location have 2 speeds...slow and stop. Pretty sad. The food was terrible. Two double steak burgers over cooked, dry and crunchy like shoe leather. A complete waste of time and money. I ordered food from here through the website and it says 24 hours on the door but apparently down for maintenance and I'm forced to go call some number for the refund. All lights and signs are on and doors are not locked. People are pulling in the parking lot then they tell customers they are down for maintenance. Actually if it were an option I wouldn't give them any stars. It is really too bad because, I like their food. But, forget about eating here in the summer time! Drive-thru is a joke, and the inside is small and crowded. The service is SLOW. They all act like they are on a Sunday stroll. No one cares about getting your food out. We was here last Sat about midnight old lady was complaining about how they need to shut doors and how she had worked a 14 hr shift the day before we waited nicely till it was 1:30 am. Then it just be came way to much. No place should treat there customers like crap and complain the whole time working when I asked for a discount for waiting so long she ripped the recipe outta my hand and rudely said don't frigging worry about it. Our waitress who was a bigger girl we only seen one time all of us had our drinks as one of us never received there till we asked u ever going to bring her drink? Been to a few SNS restaurants and get basically the same level of food and service: decent food, slow wait time. I go there because it's cheap. One waitress (not ours) was rude and certainly not professional in the minute of interaction we had with her. However, our server, Kate (spells it K8 on nametag) was phenomenal in recovery, made sure we still had a great experience, and was already doing her best as a good and efficient server. Best I've had at this establishment. Just writing the review to make sure she gets the good recognition she deserves. read more

This is a place to just drive by and not stop in. The restaurant was so cold when our food was delivered it was cold. We had to go to the car and get blankets for our kids. The service was so slow my son fell asleep before his food came. Half way through our meal my child had to go to the bathroom it was so dirty. The restroom had stuff on the walls and dirt caked floors it was so bad that it rivaled some of the more gross gas station bathrooms. It is a shame because my kids love the shakes but if the bathroom is this dirty where people see I hate to see what the kitchen looks like where we are not allowed in. read more

As I live fairly close to this particular Steak & Shake in Sandusky, Ohio, I have had many opportunities to visit. The food is usually acceptable or better, but something has happened in the last year to their service. Today I visited at 1:20 PM. I was the third car in line to order. I did not get my food until 1:42. I would like to say this was an isolated incident, but it is VERY much the norm for this location. We were in Ohio for the Summit races and after a long day decided on something quick. Last year we stopped here and everything was good so we thought we'd stop again this year. I wish we would have read the reviews before we did. This place was AWFUL!!!!! We were seated pretty quickly but it went downhill after that. The waitress took our order and never came back. After about 10 minutes we asked another server if we could get drinks. He sent someone else over with the drinks, and one was wrong. After another 10 minutes and the table beside us getting our order, we asked a server about our order. The same initial waitress came back over, said she didn't know what happened to our order, the person who took it quit. I said that she took our order and she said yea, but I gave it to her and I don't know what she did with it. She was not apologetic or even that polite. More irritated that she had to work I guess, or she could see her tip going away. After another 20 minutes we asked the server who brought the drinks out to get the manager. Didn't see the manager. Asked another server to get the manager and finally she came out of the back room, looked our way and said they have food. They were like not that table the other one. She never gave her name and seemed bothered that we asked for her. Told her the story about our order and she was like "I'm not making excuses, but I've had someone quit and been dealing with fights since I got her at 5 pm". Sounds like an excuse to me. She never said sorry, we're just really behind because we got slammed, never offered money off, nothing. We asked what we owed for the drinks and she said nothing, so we said good we're leaving. She again said nothing, but moved to the next table and asked them what their issues were. I have never waited at any Steak and Shake for 45 minutes for a basic combo meal. Never seen it take 45 minutes for people to get milkshakes (no food, just shakes) and never seen such an unprofessional manager. We will not be going back to this location EVER. read more

This is probably the worst place I've ever been to, and Ive been to sketchy areas with better service. I understand that it was very late, like 1am-2am and that no one really wants to be there but come on, rude managers and people who just ignore you!! The waitress was by herself and there were 3-4 other tables there. It took her about 8 minutes to acknowledge us and sit us down, it took her another 20 minutes to greet us and ask what we want. The milkshake was good and the fries were too but my friend got a burger with mayo NOT mustard. It was covered in mustard!!! We didn't even want to wait for another to be made because it was so slow. After we went up to pay we got ignored for about 5-8 minutes until we finally said something. The machine wasn't working and the MANAGER was very snotty and rude about us being in a bit of a rush. My friend asked her simple questions and she replied with a very rude tone and attitude. I did not enjoy this place AT ALL! I don't even think it deserves 1 star, that's being generous. read more

This resturaunts services has gone down hill. The waitress came and took our order and we didn't see her for 35 mins until she brought our food. Then she handed me a burger that she didn't know what was and was not mine. Asked her to just bring me a side of guacamole instead of making a new burger took her 10 mins to do that. My kids were finished eating by then and we still didn't received our water or milkshakes. After 50 mins upon arrival we just got up and had them take our drinks off our bill because we still have not received them and people that arrived after us recieved their milkshakes. Thankfully Meijer gas station was right there so we could get a drink. They didn't seem to care that they messed our order up and I still had to pay for a burger I didn't receive.
