Worst. Slowest. Service. Cold food. I'll be contacting headquarters because this location is a detriment to their chain. How they allow a franchise owner to run a business into the ground while bearing their name is astonishing. Clearly there is a chronic problem with this location. We passed thru twin on the evening of eclipse day at around 7 pm. Was busy but many empty tables inside and a long line waiting to be seated. We went to drive thru which has 3 cars ahead of us. Wish I could give a no star rating. Worst ever for S n S. Meal wrong, food cold, party got food at different times. Had to ask for more coffee - which I never got, napkins and silverware. Restrooms dirty, half of tables needed cleared when we arrived and all were not cleared by the time we left. Did get a discount on meal, would rather have good food and service. Was traveling and got off the highway to make a quick trip through the drive thru. I encountered one of the most rudest employees that took my order. She did not let me finish before cutting me off, was argumentative about a coupon, gave us the wrong soda and cold fries. Two stars for being prompt and drive thru asking for my order. Then repeating my order at the window. One star for service after paying. Different person hands me a bag. I tell him I ordered the yogurt parfait and ice water. Looking in the bag, I realize it's not my order. Hand it back when I got my water. Manager comes over, out of the blue, and asks what I need. My order! She goes, grabs two bags and asks me to repeat my order. I ask her what is so hard about getting orders right. I've worked fast food. We didn't hand out wrong orders or our butts got chewed. What is so hard about making sure the correct order is in the bag before handing it out? I've only ate at S&S about three times. Now I know why. But they were the only ones open for breakfast. Darn Wendy's. Won't make the same mistake again. Bagel was not toasted or even warm. Potato cakes extra greasy. Coffee decent. We are here Friday evening with friends. Our friend fell coming in the door on a sign laying flat on the floor. It was a triangle sign to warn of wet floors, but the floors were not wet. She fell on her rump, back and hit her head. She was helped up by her husband. No one from the restaurant bother to come or assist. After dinner she told the young man at the register she had fallen and he said she should be careful and watch where she walks!! She then ask to speak to the manager. She wanted to file an accident report in case she had a problem the next day. Also that evening when a young lady served our food she served my food passing it over my friends food and in front of her face! I don't necessarily blame these servers, but I do blame management for not training their personnel !! Where is your training for staff Steak 'n Shake ?? I used to go to the one on Wabash before moving away. Staying at hotel close and have been missing 5 way and fries that I used to get often. The gal who eventually came to the counter was nice enough, but saw me earlier and should have been quicker. The fries were just not hot, but cold and 5 way was missing something and about half what I always got previously. Very disappointed. read more

EVERY TIME I go there, they screw something up but recently it was 1:45 AM and I was their absolute only customer and instead of a mushroom and swiss burger, they gave me some bacon, american cheese, bbq smothered, disgusting creation. It just boggles my mind how you can screw up an order that much. I'd love to rate them zero stars, as I didnt even get anything. Went in with a to go order. I've seen ads for the 2 for $3 menu, and was getting off an 11 hour day. I've eaten here before, food is normal greasy fast-food style in a sit down atmosphere. But I like the chili mac supreme and chili 5 way so I figured I'd stop in for a couple cheap burgers and use my birthday shake coupon on my phone, as it says "print or present coupon on your device." Well, they're a franchise location, so they dont participate in the 2 for $3, but they have a 2 for $4. Fine. I have $4 I can spend, so let's do this. Two burgers. Order my shake. The barcode on the email wont scan on my phone. Of course. Let's get a manager. Woman comes over, tries doing exactly the same thing the cashier did (the cashier was doing her best, Nicki was her name. Wish I could thank her and tell her it's not her fault). "Manager" asks if she can take my phone. Unorthodox, but whatever. She takes it to someone else on the floor, and then decides herself that because it wont scan, they wont honor it. She comes back, hands me my phone back and says that it HAS to be printed out, despite the email and the coupon both saying that it can be shown on my device. I point this out and she stammers. At this point she has no idea what to do. I cancelled the order and stormed out as they brought the shake out. If you cant accept a coupon that is for their company, for their product, and for their system, you dont want my business. I'll try one of the actual decent stores. My wife and I took our kids here for lunch today. We were verry disappointed. We are regular Steak 'n Shake customers at their wabash avenue location but ate here because it was closer to where we needed to be. The restaurant was very dirty with sticky floors in dining area and very slick bathroom floors. Our table was wiped down just before we sat down but the booth walls had easily visible greasy finger prints all over them. The advertisement thing on the table had petrified food stuck to it and was greasy to the touch as well. It took forever to place an order and drinks came even later. My kids ordered apples and caramel which upon inspection half the apple slices were mushy and the caramel was dark and chunky. My youngest got mac and cheese and when it came there was obvious dried chili or something on the inside of the bowl. When we asked for it to be replaced the waitress who was also dining room manager went back to the drink station and rolled her eyes at another waitress. My wife ordered bacon cheddar fries and specifically asked for no cheese sauce because she is allergic to it. Her food came with obvious cheese sauce and waitress asked with an attitude "what's the problem". Needless to say we had a terrible experience and will never return to this location read more

Worst service EVER.We waited almost 10 min before someone took our order. No silverware, no cheese sauce we paid for, no refills...we asked for all of these and never could get anything but the cheese sauce! They were not busy so that made me even more mad. No one came to check on us at all after the food came! This place has really gone downhill with the service. So sad b/c we love the food. First, let's address the restroom cleanliness, or lack thereof. Filthy. Floors had obviously not seen clean since the tile was installed. Second, have they changed the quality of their melted cheese? I got this congealed mass of fake off-white crap. Disgusting. Third, the booth seating was uncomfortable. Sat down and there was little seat support. Sank down so far that my neck was even with the table edge. All in all, a miserable experience. Will not be back. read more

We first called Steak N' Shake when we arrived at our hotel so we could quickly grab our food, eat, and rest after a long 10 hours of travel. First, we called to place our to-go order as they did not accept online orders. The phone was answered with a "You'll need to hold", so I waited on the phone. After about 5 minutes being on hold I hung up and attempted to call back as they had forgotten about my call. After FORTY FIVE MINUTES of calling and the call 'failing' a call finally went through and was ended by the workers. I called back one last time and the call FINALLY went through. I explained to the worker my frustration regarding trying to order for the last thirty minutes, to which she brushed off and asked for my order. After repeating the order multiple times, the worker asked when we would like our food to which I answered, "As soon as possible since we have been waiting nearly an hour" to which she responded by saying "okay" and hanging up. This left us confused as to how long our food would take, so we waited about 10 minutes and headed across the street. Upon arrival, we asked a cashier for our to-go order to which he told the people in the kitchen and asked us to wait as our food was not ready yet. We sat at the counter and watched the workers prepare our sandwiches on the COUNTERTOP. The bare countertop touched both of our meals. We saw this occur right in front of us, but brushed it off in the hopes that we could grab our food and leave. We then waited for 5 minutes, which turned to 10 minutes, which turned to 20 minutes of waiting following our food being bagged (we assumed our shakes were being made and that was the hold up). We then asked the cashier if he could please check on our order and he brought only the bag of food that had been sitting for the last 20 minutes. We informed the worked that we had also ordered 2 shakes to which he promptly receded to the back to grab our shakes. To no surprise, the shakes were not made and there was no record of the shakes in the system. He then asked what flavors we wanted and left again to have someone make our shakes. A few minutes later, he returned and told us that he had to make the shakes himself as no one would make them and apologized. We then asked if his manager could come and speak to us. The manager approached and we voiced our concerns about the wait time on the phone and at the restaurant. We politely asked if he would be willing to re-make our food as it had sat for the past 20 minutes and was now cold. He agreed and asked for our order. He re-made the entire order and gave it to us quickly. Upon receiving our food the rude woman working asked if we had paid for our food yet (we think this is the woman who kept the phone off the hook for 45 minutes) to which we replied "no". Thankfully, the manager who spoke with us told the rude woman that we would not have to pay for our meal and offered us a free meal the next time we came in. We gladly declined, as we will NEVER be visiting a Steak N' Shake ever again. Upon returning to our hotel to eat, we came to realize that the turkey club was legitimately two pieces of white bread with LUNCH MEAT, tomato and bacon that we saw sitting in a bowl for who knows how long. We barely touched our meal as we were scared that we would contract food poisoning from the unsanitary preparatory conditions. The floors of the restaurant were covered in food, papers, and other garbage. The cook grilled burger patties in bulk and stored them on the bare countertop until an order came through. The service was terrible besides the one kind young boy who was working his butt off to help us in addition to picking up all of the other worker's slack. Poor excuse for an establishment. Unfortunately, I can't leave a 0 star rating. I tried. My family visits this restaurant whenever we come to visit my husband's family. We don't have a Steak N Shake where we live, so we always look forward to having a steakburger and shake when we're in town. However, I will never step foot in this particular store, and possibly another Steak N Shake again. We ate lunch there yesterday and as we were leaving, the manager approached my father-in-law and told him there was a tip on our table when we sat down and she "knew the young man took it." The man in question is my 15 year old son. She waited to say anything until I had walked out to our vehicle with my kids and my husband was paying. My father-in-law was so shocked by the accusation, he didn't know how to respond. He just said there was no way his grandson would do that. When we got back to the house, I personally checked my son's pockets, which as I expected, were empty. We spent $60 on food just to be accused of stealing a $5 tip. read more
