Although the food is decent, the staff are not the friendliest. They are constantly understaffed. They always get the order wrong. The whole experience feels is very impersonal. The last time I had a shake, it was completely melted and had the consistency of soup, I hate the way you have to scan a ticket to get your drink now, and the machine cuts you off after a couple refills. Another thing that irks me is the manager parking in a handicapped spot in front of the restaurant. Doesn't have a handicap license plate or placard hanging up from his rearview mirror. read more

One remembers the Steak n Shake of old, where you liked going with a group, maybe for a late meal, with waiters and waitresses and good food. This is no more. I took my family here recently on a Saturday afternoon. The place was a ghost town and we soon found out why. First, there is no more wait staff: you place all orders at kiosks up front. The counter staff is gone. You can slog your way through the kiosk process and sit, after collecting the QR codes you are supposed to scan to get your drinks. My wife ordered a sandwich with extra Swiss cheese: she got it with cheddar, and only after asking did we find out they were out of Swiss and just decided on the substitution without mentioning this to us. They did take her meal off the check at least. The dining area was a sad shadow of what it once was and the place was silent. The food was pretty decent, but not really as they used to be, and the experience was much like going to an automat. Going to mark this off the list of places to go back to. read more

I can't say I'm thrilled with the new system they introduced during or after COVID. They went from a full service restaurant with servers, to a fast casual concept, where you order on a kiosk and then wait for your food. The result? Their business is down, substantially. While their expenses are down substantially, as well, I don't know if they're going to make it and it seems like people aren't happy with it, so their business will go down even more in the future. It seems like what they have, are bean counters making the decisions on how a restaurant is run, rather than professional restaurant managers who understand the business. A problem I had recently when I got there after 11:00pm just to get a shake and the doors were locked (another bean counter bad decision by them). I had to wait in line in the drive-through, which I despise, behind someone who placed a large order. It took at least 15 minutes to get him served. If they're going to have such a policy, they need to change their drive-through procedures. They should've had the man with a huge order, pull into a parking spot somewhere and have someone take his order out to him, so the next customer could get his chocolate shake. read more

Well, I tried the drive through around 11:45 this morning and waited about 10 minutes at the speaker but no one answered. They didn't have any signs indicating it was closed so I tried knocking on the window but the kid at the window just flicked me off. I wasn't able to get any food this time but I ordered inside for lunch a couple weeks ago and I did get my order but I had to wait about 45 minutes for the milkshake. I told 3 different people and I guess the first two were just ignoring me because it took the 3rd girl about 60 seconds to go make it and bring it back. She was great, but after today I'm basically convinced the rest of the employees are trying to sabotage this store. I should also mention I had a hair in my frisco melt. I don't think it was intentional or anything, they just have a bunch of long haired fry-cooks that don't wear hair nets. It's a shame they can't get decent help because the new fries are actually really good, even if they were cold by the time I got the rest of the order. I don't know why I didn't come here earlier! We came here twice with some friends for breakfast and lunch in one week. Both times I had really good food, excellent service and left with full belly! The first round, I got their hash brown with sauteed with onions, sunny side up eggs and crispy bacon the first go. The second go I got their classic single steak burger with double portion fries and a coke. I have to admit I wolf that bad boy down like a hungry badger getting ready to strike a pile of woodpile on a prairie! I took the leap and had a Frisco Melt and a chocolate shake for lunch the other day. The bread was toasted, not soggy. Plenty of sauce, which I like. And the milkshake was delish. I probably waited under 5 minutes for my order when I got to the window. Today I had a double cheeseburger and some fries. I was the only one in line and the service was banging! Pulled up to the window, paid, waited 2 minutes and I got a hot fresh burger. I was thinking about this all day. Knowing they deserved a good review at this point in the Steak n Shakes life. Had a triple cheese burger and onion rings. This was the best hamburger I have had for a long time. It was juicy, tasty, and a good value for the money. I do not usually eat hamburgers when I eat out, but I will take my husband to this Steak and Shake next week. The onion rings were to die for too. Had to top it off with a milk shake. No complaints there either. Server Crystal was attentive, friendly, and she did let us occupy her table 3,5 hours. (Yep, that's a long time to keep server's table.) My wife, Rosemary, and I had a bad experience at a drive-in Steak and Shake located at 120 Lauren Woodstock Georgia 30189. On July 30th--just a couple of days ago--we went to the take-out menu board in an attempt to place our order over the speaker. The person taking the order, in this instance the African-American manager, was very short with us, telling me that he would not repeat our order as requested and to abruptly move forward to the window, conversation over. I felt blindsided and so did my spouse. I only wanted the order repeated because my wife is allergic to onions and peppers and wanted to make sure that there would be no onions on her single steak burger, not to mention she, unlike myself, wanted lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. In contrast I only wanted ketchup and pickles. We were not trying to be difficult or unfriendly. To make things worse the young Caucasian man (a teenager I believe) at the pick up window was about to articulate or repeat the order of his own volition and in conformance with normal protocol, not at our request but to validate the order, but was angrily cut off by the manager (alluded to earlier) who in a very hostile tone of voice stated to his helper that "we don't need to repeat the order seven (7) times"--these were his very words--at which time the young man looked at his boss with disbelief as we did, I quietly whispering to my wife "Did you hear that?". The young man was very polite and customer-friendly, the antithesis of his supervisor/manager. We were then told to park our car in the reserved pick-up space and we did so as instructed and when the young African-American lady delivered the two steak burgers and French friends to our car, I let her know that we were shocked by her bosses' attitude and felt he needed some additional training in interpersonal skills. She was exceptionally nice. As we were leaving the parking lot he waved to us, out the fast--food's store window--as if to say I got your message and in response I'm ignoring you. In addition to the rude behavior of management at the Steak and Shake referenced below, the order wound up wrong, namely I ordered a bowl of chili, but only received a cup (unless the size of a bowl of chili has been compressed similar to cereal boxes reduced in size at a typical grocery store like Publix or Kroger's to use an analogy). read more
