Is Steak Street under new management? ....cause our experience tonight left much to be desired. It started out wrong, we made a reservation for a birthday party. When we arrived with two balloons, they advised that balloons were not allowed inside the restaurant. So we put the balloons back in the car. We requested a kid's menu for my daughter and the server advised that the kid's menu was for kids 13yrs and under. I said "She's 12yrs old." He paused - looked at my daughter and then sarcastically said, "Ok I'll believe you." I asked him how old she looked to him? He said "She looks about 15yrs old to me but if you say she's 12 then ok." Halfway thru my salad, I found a hair. I alerted the server. The server apologized and then said the manager offered me a free side salad. The manager never came by to apologize or anything. There was no live music either. There might have been one other table seated in that place apart from our party of 15. I am guessing they are under new management because the Steak Street experience has seriously fallen off....or maybe this was an off night but it was far less than what I expected. read more

Would have been 5 stars but the prime rib was just good not great- everything else was wonderful. We had 6p Friday reservations and we're seated promptly by a kind and friendly host. The waitress was prompt to intro herself and take our drink order which arrived quickly. We ordered several apps for the table which all arrived quickly and were excellent. The calamari was particularly good but highly recommend the tips tournedo, voodoo shrimp, fried oysters and Caesar salad. The waitress was attentive throughout our meal while never rushing us through the meal even though the restaurant was full and we were several bottles of wine in. Now for the prime rib... as a Friday and Saturday special, and at $46, I have a presumption it will be an excellent dish. It is labeled a 12oz portion but for the $$ the rib left me wanting more. The mashed sweets were very good, as was the okra. Thankfully my wife ordered the braised short rib which was excellent and a very very generous portion. I have lived in High Point the last 4 years and never been here. I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants. My neighbors told me they have great drinks and music so we decided to go. We walked in at 3:56 pm and they open at 4pm (which I didn't know) and there was already a table of 3 women seated out on the patio so, naturally, I assumed they were open. We were greeted by a very rude host and hostess. They stated, "Well we just opened so please be patient, we are still waiting on wait staff to arrive." We did not even have a chance to tell them how many in our party. When we told them they huffed like that was impossible. The host stated he wasn't sure if he could accommodate us due to market. He came off very rude. After a few minutes we ended up sitting at the bar. The bartenders were nice. Food was okay. They were out of crab meat and Hendrick's gin (cucumber). The bartender dropped a champagne flute in my friend's mashed potatoes and we had to remind her that it was dirty before it was removed. This place is definitely not worth the prices on the menu. Even my 15 year old asked me why a burger was $18. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Sammy G's. Service is better and prices more reasonable. Oh and I I found a hair in my soup at the end but honestly said nothing because it was not worth the fight. Definitely disappointed, not surprised at the 3 stars on yelp. read more

She brought my iced tea, returned to see if my order was taken, and then, despite having a table of about 12 guests, by herself, she returned to not only take my order, but to give me recommendations. She returned to fill my tea and brought a second plate of bread. I am traveling alone. I had a LONG day at work, and I needed some care and concern. Ms. TJ went above and beyond. Yes. The Managers, even though the restaurant was empty wouldn't even seat us close, because we weren't all one group, But then wanted to charge all our separate reservations tables a large party fee. The fee charged from 18 to 20%. Food came cold, and no bread was offered. Slow service. Just overall probably the worst experience I've had in a very long time. I don't want to assume but I'm almost certain had my group been a different nationality our treatment would not have been the same. The bottom line is do not come here. Staff and food was great! My boss and I sat down at the bar for a few drinks before eating and wow our server was a delight! All smiles and very cheerful. Was a pleasure talking with her. Everything was wonderful! I had the beef tournedo (something like that) with a loaded bake potato and house salad. The beef comes as an appetizer but I asked for an entree. I don't normally eat all of my food but I had NOTHING left to take home. The burgundy sauce that was on the beef was SO good I took a please a bread and dipped it in my sauce ANd put some on my potato. The house salad could use one more tomato. The only thing you shouldn't order is their steak. Me and my husband ordered our steaks prepared medium, mine was cold in the center and dark pink, my husband's was brown until you got about 2 inches into the steak. Two people in our party ordered coffee- in arrived cold. Felt bad for our waiter as he could get no support from the manager. My husband sent his steak back as being over cooked, the waiter agreed, then the manager brought the steak back to tell my husband he was wrong about how the steak was cooked. The cheesecake and bread pudding were very good. We were sat in the front room - kind of like an atrium type atmosphere. We had plenty of room and there wasn't much noise. Been here many times with different people. As of tonight I would say the business is declining. The menu has been reduced in offerings. Of course prices have risen as it has everywhere. The last time I went here I had the house salad with sirloin. Half the steak was fat. $24. Tonight I went back with a friend as someone had given a $50 gift card to me. There used to be a beef medallion appetizer that was a meal for me. Ordered it and the serving size was about half what it was a year ago. My friend ordered the pecan crusted chicken. I had a few bites with the bourbon maple sauce and it was delicious. Really the only thing keeping this rating at 3 stars instead of two. Took my wife here just before 5pm, having heard it was a great place to go, and having long been on my list to try. To start, we ordered two lattes and they came out tepid. They offered to warm mine up, no problem. My wife, who doesn't like to make a fuss, didn't send hers back and just sipped on it with a grimace. The bread arrived -typical Sysco bread... bland, tasteless, cool (not warm). we ignored it after a first bite. Then my wife ordered the bourbon chicken ($30) with asparagus and a side Caesar. I ordered a spinach salad ($14) with fried oysters (+$7). I confirmed with the waitress the oysters were hand breaded and the bacon was not bacon bits, but actual bacon. Service was prompt and courteous, no issues there. Caesar arrived very lightly dressed and not delicious, but a serviceable side. Then the entrees came, timely and warm for hers and mine arrived with plenty of extra dressing on the side. Let's start with my wife's meal. For something called bourbon chicken, there was very little sauce and what there was didn't taste like anything but a light jus. The two pieces of breast meat were not full breasts, but sliced from a larger breast... typical Sysco portion. The asparagus was pale, limp and soggy with no flavor and the chicken, though well-cooked and juicy, failed to live up to it's price tag. For mine, it was a spinach salad, hard to mess up, right? But no... bacon pieces described to me were absent, and instead, bacon bits. The fried oysters were standard frozen Sysco fare. No better than I could buy at the Food Lion. The dressing was flavorful and I finished (almost) my salad. I lost interest after the last (sixth) oyster was gone. We opted to skip dessert and bail. The bill arrived and all the prices were different from on the menu (all higher). I asked why and the waitress said the tax was included on each item... I scanned the bill and somehow, the $7 oysters added to my salad. were billed at over $9. I may not be that good at math, but a 7% tax rate on that amount is only about half a dollar and certainly not over two! Our stomachs turned, we paid the bill and left our waitress a tip over 20%. She rocked. The restaurant had one other table almost done with their meal in our area and not many other patrons at all. Seated at 2:06 pm, order taken immediately for a Caesar salad and the special- pulled pork tacos with fruit salad as side. Angie brings drinks and then comes back, tacos sold out. No problem, I'll have the chicken tacos. 2:40pm- ummm hello????? Food? Are you there? No?? Hmmm we have to go back to work kids. We found this place driving around, actually looking for another restaurant. Selected it because in large bold letters it had "STEAK STREET" written on the building. Now I grant you it's not the best way to select a place. Got inside, seated right away, place was very cozy with lots of table options for seating a couple to small to medium groups. It has an upstairs searing with music some evenings, a private dining room which could seat maybe 20, a small outdoor area, and separate bar area. Very nice layout. The menu was mostly beef (imagine that) but there were vegan selections also. Good selection of sides. We listened to the specials, 2 choices, both sounded good but we were drawn in to the "Steak Street's own Bourbon marinade". She ordered a filet, butterflied, medium well (I have been working on her for years to change) and I ordered the Carriage House Ribeye both the cuts in their custom marinade. Food arrive, in perfect timing and tasted wonderful. As we consumed our steaks, we discussed why we had not developed a bourbon marinade for us before. In our minds, we developed the recipe and can't wait to try it. Upon leaving, I took a peek at their dining rooms, bar, and wine cellar (very good selection of wines also) and ran into the manager. Stopped in for dinner on our way back from the airport. We were starving and decided to give them a shot instead of hoping to get a table at the bar at Ruth's Chris. By the way it is also a coupon for this upon checking in, but I decided not to even ask about the Yelp Coupon. The wine was good though. We both ordered steaks, Ribeyes, and they came with a side and soup or salad. Asparagus and sautéed spinach were good. Salads were standard not great but not bad. Steaks were ordered medium rare and received medium. Great grill marks but no flavor at all. I can say that they really needed salt and pepper. I actually considered using steak sauce for them. Not a ringing endorsement for a steakhouse. I will probably avoid the place, unless I want to be at the bar, it looked pretty good. Steak Street Restaurant On February 19th I made reservations at Steak Street to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was extremely excited for my family to experience the restaurant's atmosphere, service and food. The night started off great, however it quickly turned when my brother n law found a screw in his bbq chicken pizza! We quickly notified the waitress and she returned the food and notified the manager. When our waitress returned she said the general manager "Travis" said he was busy and couldn't come out, but he would remove the pizza, off his bill. We insisted that we speak with a manager, and another manager "Steve" arrived. Steve apologized, however I don't feel our situation was handled as a serious issue. Before leaving we finally spoke to Travis, who insisted that he was just too busy to leave his station. He brushed it off by saying this is rare, but it does happen. We explained that customer service is key and we didn't find a hair in the food we found a screw! He stated again, I was busy and couldn't come out. My thoughts are at what point do you come out.... When someone is choking on the screw? Travis clearly needs some additional training in leadership and customer service. Our situation was treated as a minor incident and not important. The evening was ruined and no one truly enjoyed their food as we were worried that maybe another screw could be in our entrees. This was supposed to be a celebratory dinner for my daughter's birthday but it turned out to be a very expensive lesson on what not to do. Don't go somewhere new with any bad reviews. Both my daughter and I were served undercooked steak and both of us had mediocre sides. Manager said that is the way the cook their steaks are basically told us we were wrong. The manages were rude, very biased, and extremely ungrateful to me and about 30 of my sorority sisters that were there to celebrate an important milestone. From being very rude , to being very unaccommodating, especially considering how slow business was on the evening we were there. Our average checks were over $40. Three of us at my table ordered salmon that came out very undercooked. Being a food-safety professional, there is a difference between medium and raw...ours was raw in the thickest part therefore I know a safe internal temperature was not reached. We stopped eating it halfway through. I have ordered salmon at Steak Street before and did not experience this, nor the rudeness of the managers (both of them). Hi; Came to Steak Street on Tuesday, August 24 for early dinner. Service was great. Food itself, another story. Portion size received in relation to price charged was astonishing. Two in party ordered 6 oz. steaks, ordered medium, came in well done. More vegetable and garnish than meat. I had the honey bourbon beef tips. Kid in party had chicken tenders. We adults, all of us have been around the block and have been to steak houses, so we weren't looking to eat on the cheap. We were stunned when the server brought the adults the food...we waited till she left, then we laughed and asked each other, '..where's the rest of the food...'. We didn't make a fuss at the table, we ate and left. We paid, left a good tip for the service, but we will still dispute the charge with AmEx because the value given (our $$) wasn't met with value received. Don't know if there's going to be an adjustment in the bill, but we had to protest to AmEx (and here on Yelp) because we feel we were ripped off. Not recommended. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. My sisters and I had a few reservations set for staggered seating times, when my sister made the reservations online and then called to follow up she was informed of the large party fee for TABLES of 8+ . We restructured and sat less than 8 per table and we were not sat together. This was the first time many of us had been to this restaurant When we arrived (at the appropriate time based on the reservations) the male front of house manager was rude and condescending from the minute we entered. Based on the limited patrons in the restaurant we asked politely if we could be sat closer together (we did acknowledge the party fee) the manager rudely stated that they had other large parties who also booked and he would be unable to accommodate. Which was fine except for the tone he took. When we were finally seated (less than 8 per table) my table was asked by our waitress if we wanted separate checks, no other statements attached. After we placed our drink orders we were informed that even though we were not seated together (completely separated across the restaurant) we would still be required to do 1 check per table and an 18% gratuity would be applied. When we questioned the decision we were informed that we obviously knew the other members of the other parties and that since we made reservations for the same time we were together and would be charged as such. REMEMBER they would not seat us together because we were separate parties under different reservations with different seating times. After that my table personally experienced extremely long wait times for food and drinks (our server was a sweetheart and could tell that we were not happy with how the evening was going, but service was just bad) we were not offered bread but we knew that other parties in the restaurant had been. When we asked we were told it was only available upon request (not written anywhere) and it wasn't fresh later in the evening (we were there 2+ hours before close). After we ordered we were told by other members of the other reservations that their food was either completely undercooked or almost burnt. We had yet to receive our food at this point. When we finally received our food all the other reservations had finished eating even though we had ordered earlier than them. 2 members at my table had cold food that needed to be sent back almost immediately and 1 persons burger was both burnt and cold. As our server returned with the first two meals the burger meal said she no longer wanted the food and it was taken back. After the food was taken back and had been out of our possession for more than 8-9 minutes we were informed that instead of comping the meal or being offered to choose something else, she would be offered a free dessert. When she didn't agree to that the female manager came over and said that because she had eaten "half the burger and most of the fries" (there wasn't but 10-15 fries in the first place and the burger was cut to check the cook and was found to be overdone) they would only take off 25% and that if she was unhappy she should have said something earlier and they would have fixed it. We were the last people in the WHOLE RESTAURANT to get food and our server had already had to take two peoples food back almost immediately and as soon as she came back she was informed of the issue with the food. The female manager remained rude and condescending and took a tone inappropriate for a professional environment when we had been nothing but respectful. All the while NO OTHER parties were sat in any of the tables that were "reserved" for other "large parties" at the time we were the only patrons still dining. No one else had come in since we were seated. At this point we just wanted to leave and when we asked for our separate checks The female manager informed us that we would be charged a 20% on individual checks. REMEMBER the original manager informed us of an 18% auto gratuity (even though there were only 7 of us at the table). We also knew that the other tables received separate checks and paid and not charged 20%. We were saying goodbye and comparing experiences with the other separate tables and were informed that they had similar experiences. And we were all apparently charged $2 (not disclosed on the checks) for a "cutting fee" since we brought in celebration cupcakes and handed them out as we left. All in all this was a HORRIBLE experience and we will NEVER be going back. read more

Don't try the prime rib. This is one of those times I should have looked at the reviews before I wasted my money. Nice enough place, nice if undertrained staff. Decent soup. Good baked potato. Uninspired prime rib. It was about 6-6:30 on a Thursday, so the prime should have been plentiful and not over cooked. I got mine so I believe it was plentiful. but, in this world of undercooked on purpose this medium rare cut was leaning very heavily on the medium to medium well side. So the eye was mealy. It was also missing the cap. That ring of marbled tender tasty happiness was missing. There was at least 2 ounces of pure tail fat that adds nothing to the cut. I asked about the missing cap. Was told it was trimmed away to give more of the mealy chewy eye, and that glob of fat was not addressed. So basically, they cook a prime rib without the best part of the cut. So don't get it. Last night was my first and last time visiting this establishment. We arrived at the steakhouse with reservations for a pretty big party in which the restaurant gladly accepted. Upon walking in, they weren't very business and the atmosphere was nice. Once being seated, we were greeted by the manager who immediately said, "this was a last minute reservation and a big party, because it is you'll all have to pay the check on one bill. We will not split it. One in our party asked a question and he stated, you all will have to send each other the money".It was condescending, almost as if we didn't belong or couldn't afford to foot the bill in the way he suggested.There was 8 of us). The manager also told us we would need to hurry and order because they would close the kitchen soon. Shortly after the waitress arrives and begins rushing us to order before really even having the chance to review the menu. She leaves, comes back and repeats the process. We had to constantly ask for refills. Shortly after receiving our dinner, 7 of 8 realized that no matter what was ordered the food had a charred charcoal taste to it, even the vegetables. We receive the bill and pay, we realize that the other party with us received separate bills. After talking to our other tables, they tell us they received separate bills and he stated he would have to charge 18% gratuity if this was the case. This option was never presented to our table. The entire experience was terrible and distasteful, we were constantly reminded we had last minute reservations and we were a large party, and they had other reservations (as stated before, the restaurant was empty so I'm not sure what happened to the house full they were supposed to have.) Reservations were made on Sunday and accepted by the manager and restaurant. If we were too big of a party, we would have gladly carried our business elsewhere. If we were too big of a party and the reservation was too big, they could have respectfully declined. Don't accept customers and business if it's going to be an issue and you will constantly remind the party and that it is a last minute reservation and the party is big. We had no issue paying or choosing this restaurant as we expected much more out of it but they did not live up to the standards. Horrible experience last night. Our server was like an emotionless robot. Did not crack a smile once. No personality or even a greeting. Didn't even tell us his name. Our soup was cold. In fact, all of our food was room temperature. When our food was brought to us (by a different person), it was placed down in front of another customer at a different table. When I told her it was our food, she picked it up and proceeded to give it to me. I told her, I did not want it. She said she would get a new one. It was brought back to me within five minutes by someone else and it was not hot at all so I doubt this was a freshly cooked dish. The woman who brought the new dish over threw our server under the bus and said he had written the wrong table number on our order.
