This place is amazing they make the best pesto sauce I have ever HAD my daughter is a pesto sauce lover and it is her best too so order pesto sauce with penne noodles with sliced chicken and you will not regret it!! This new place has aspirations but alas, did not deliver. The decor is pleasant enough, but looks unfinished. There's a large number of craft cocktails and a nice wine list. The dinner menu is ambitious. Interesting, for a steak place, the steak choices are at the bottom of the menu and not really "featured" in any way. Appetizers include some interesting items such as roasted bone marrow, pork belly AND foie gras sliders. We tried the baked oysters - not very good due temperature not hot and hollandaise too heavy on the lemon juice (insert pucker face here). The roasted bone marrow arrived piping hot and but without a proper utensil for getting the marrow out and without an acceptable foil such as a little salad, some olives, or something else to cut the richness of the marrow. There's just a few lonely sprigs of parsley on the plate. The grilled Caesar salad is stated on the menu to have white anchovies but arrived with regular anchovies - shameful. The grilled asparagus with sous vide egg with miso dressing was nicely prepared but difficult to eat due to runny components not adhering to the smooth asparagus. My entree of shrimp and grits was delicious. Tender shrimp over cheesy grits with Spanish chorizo and a savory sauce. Super good. My wife's sirloin steak was perfectly prepared however the porcini mushroom demiglace was too runny (like water) and the fries were soggy. Must the parsley look so lonely on every plate? We shared the strawberry shortcake dessert - awful. This dessert was a dry muffin crammed into a mason jar with a bit of whipped cream, a few drops of strawberry sauce, and less than 1 whole strawberry. We didn't eat it. Problems aside, the staff seemed genuinely concerned and interested in our comments, and a few of these items were comped. Decided on this based on the 4.5 stars it has on yelp. Made a reservation, didn't need one! Upon arrival owner was at podium for check in. Took him 2 full minutes to acknowledge us bc he was reading his phone. Very awkward. Then handed off where to seat us. Server was nice. Lacked overall knowledge and made weird comments about how she didn't know anything about wagyu but is was the special. We ordered two appetizers (fig and prosciutto bruschetta and shrimp something). They gave us regular bruschetta as there was no fig and no prosciutto. Just red peppers and goat cheese. The shrimp appetizer is there special and it was absolutely tasteless. Salad had proportionally more egg than any other topping and the dressing was tasteless. We ordered t-bone w mushrooms and Parmesan crust. Side of Brussel sprouts and baked potato to share. Steak was to be medium rare and it was med well. Was not a prime cut of meat. Very grainy and the filet side was 60% encased in fat. Had no taste and the crust was not a crust but very liquid like. Burned as well. Mushrooms were old. Baked potato was inedible and was at least two days old. Brussels were nasty. Either over cooked or undercooked and no bacon to be found. But it did have these little pebbles of something they were trying to pass off as bacon. Owner yelled at his staff in front of the entire dining area yet he could be found sitting by the door mostly. Place is a disaster honestly. Like something you watch on Kitchen nightmares. Spent $190 w tip for an experience and food that was maybe worth $75-80. Won't be back and I recommend moving on down the road to fourteensixteen! read more

Hello FoodZees, the holidays are over most of the bills are paid and after a long wait we're back. Tonight after a well deserved massage at our spot Dolce Vita Spas we once again consulted our Rapid Reward Dining and we found an awesome dinner spot. Steak & Vine at 37 s La Grange rd, La Grange. Upon entering we were met with a smiling host, we were escorted to our seats and almost instantly met by our waitress Jen who was also very pleasant. After clearing away the extra table settings she returned with a couple small onion rolls; which were very tasty. The restaurant was war and inviting with an upscale rustic look, bare brick walls and a large wine rack adorning the north side wall. The waitstaff was very attentive, our water glasses never went lower than a quarter of the way down before they were refilled. We elected to start with the bruschetta (steak and salmon) the crostini was toasted nicely, they were topped with a think layer of dill creme fraiche (cream fresh), under thinly sliced salmon and steak and that was finished off with finely diced apple, onion and greens with a light balsamic vinaigrette. The mixture of flavors were fantastic, the salmon was silky and the steak tender. Glenda had the special Surf and Turf. Half lobster tail and 7 oz sirloin with a side of mashed sweet potatoes in a maple Jack Daniels butter. It was out of this world. Glenda almost licked the bowl clean. It was velvety smooth and addictive. The lobster was cooked to perfection, the steak had a heavy char and was slightly dry but when mixed with the lobster, dipped in butter and topped with the sweet potato mash it was very good. I chose the Cedar Planked King Salmon with greens and sliced apple. The salmon's glazing was sweet and savory and the salmon was flaky and moist. The greens were dry so I asked for a vinaigrette instead the chef suggested a lemon vinaigrette which enhances the flavor of the greens and combined with apples was flavorful. The dessert list was intriguing, the flourless chocolate cake and the carrot cake were made by two high school teenage girls. The Buffalo Trace Bourbon ice cream was very good, we chose that with the chocolate cake. The ice cream had a strong bourbon flavor (not to strong) and the cake was dense but with the ice cream they both melded well. I would recommend it. This one to put on the top of our restaurants. This was our first time at this restaurant. It is definitely our last. The food was OK at best. It seems they are trying to create original dishes, but are missing the field goal on every kick. Everything, from my steak to the short ribs, was swimming in juice. The steak was incredibly tough. A glass of wine was overpriced for the amount of the serving. The service was very good, and I have to give kudos to our very pleasant server. But after dropping $120 with tip, this place is way overpriced, has lots of promise, but fails to deliver. read more

I was meeting some friends for an early dinner and meeting in the middle was key. We decided to have dinner in La Grange and I was told to pick the restaurant since I was familiar with the area. I had never been to Steak + Vine before And after reading the reviews decided to check it out! Everybody loves her entrées and the service was awesome! Nice little hidden gem in the middle of downtown Lagrange. I had the center cut fillet and a side of broccoli. The fillet was cooked to perfection. We have eaten here several times, sometimes just my husband and me but more frequently with our two children. We always enjoy our meal. They have an interesting craft cocktail menu and everything we've tried has been delish. My fav is the spicy whiskey sour...I think it's called the "LaGrange Road"....YUM! We also enjoy their wine selection. We love the baked cheese appetizer (topped with bacon and caramelized onions) and their salads. My husband enjoys their steaks and we also love the meatloaf, the burger, and the steak sandwich topped with Brie. Their fresh cut fries are delicious too. It's nice for us that my kids love this place as well! They like to split a steak or order off the kids menu. The restaurant provides an appetizer plate for each kid with sliced apples and fresh cut veggies and ranch dip. This is a nice touch! The kids meals also come with a small dessert such as a homemade ice cream sandwich with crunchy chocolate chip cookies filled with Tate's ice cream. You really get a lot of good food for the price! Service is always friendly and attentive. While the design of the restaurant is no frills and not that exciting, the food and service make for a great dining experience. This place offers a much better value and more creative dishes than a traditional steakhouse - there is truly something for everyone here. We will keep coming back! read more

My friend and I had brunch here this past Sunday. The LaGrange area is an excellent meeting spot mid-way for us to meet, and well I love me some brunch. It wasn't necessary, but I did make a reservation on Open Table - you accrue points that way, so if the place takes reservations it's best to be on the safe side, right?! We were seated promptly in the bar area and ordered the bottomless mimosas...why not, right?!?! for $10!!! Such a great deal!!! We got these little bacon twist thingys for starters which were really tasty, and both ordered the chicken & waffles. Our server explained they take an additional 20 minutes to make, which was fine, we were in no hurry. The food came out fresh & made to order, it was delicious! Our server also kept the mimosas flowing...even while we hung out a bit longer to chat after paying our bill. I highly suggest this place - great food, mimosas and excellent service! Not hard to really like this place! The bar up front away from the dining room is a nice touch and I like the large space. Plenty of room for folks to move around. The food was great! We tried the melted cheese with bacon jam and split a delicious house salad. We skipped having steaks and tried the short rib over mashed potatoes. There was plenty on the plate and it was cooked perfectly! Shrimp and grits is a huge winner here! The grits were perfectly cheesy and the chunks of chorizo (not spicy) were "killer"! If you like shrimp and grits you need to try them here! We skipped desert because we were just plain too full but the menu looked good. Cocktail recommendation: Southern Man Old Fashoned. Tonight was the first time I went to Steak and Vine.The food was ok. I ordered the short ribs. Very tender. My date had a bit of a mishap with his meal. But they have wonderful customer service so fixed it right away and then didn't charge us for him meal. I can't say I'd go back but they're staff is great. read more

We came in for the the first time on a Saturday evening drawn outside our norm by La Grange Restaurant week. The restaurant was bustling upon arrival. The front room is the bar area and the back a dining room. It's fairly loud in the dining room because of the acoustics. I ordered off the special Restaurant Week menu which was three courses, starting off with French Onion Soup. Nothing special here. Basically a slice of cheese thrown on top of onion soup. For dinner I had which looked like the popular dish of the evening based on how many I saw coming out of the kitchen, the Parmesan topped Mahi Mahi. Before I get to the meal, I need to talk about the service. I literally had just finished the soup, when the entrees showed up. I felt like we were being rushed and frankly all three courses were like that. Basically we could have been in and out in 45 minutes at the pace the kitchen was sending out food. At this price point, they need to slow it down and let us have a bit of a break between courses. Regarding the Mahi Mahi, the fish was cooked perfectly. However, the Parmesan topping has a mayo like flavor and left a bad aftertaste. I scraped it off and ate the fish. Spinach and golden potatoes were on the side. My wife had the salmon and said it was delicious. She too agreed with the taste of the Parmesan topping on mine so I'm not crazy. At least not at the moment! The final course was the best part of the meal, Key Lime Pie. Key Lime is my go to dessert and actually the primary reason we came in. It was tart and not overly sweet, just the way I like it. I would definitely come back for the pie, and maybe just the pie. read more

Good food. Great server (Siobhan). Why the 2 star? Bar Tender. Rude as she could be. After spending well over $400 on the meal, an after-meal drink at the bar ruined our entire experience. Having taken a vow of frowns, the bar tender expressed impatience when we were ordering and asking questions. (no one else at the bar but our party). She made it abundantly clear that she wanted us to leave. It became so bad it was funny. We are an easy crowd to get along with. We were quiet and respectful. I have never felt so unwelcome at a bar. Her personality was borderline hostile. I would have attributed this behavior to her just having a 'bad night', but she had been rude in the past. What's worse, is that I emailed management about these incidents only in an effort to protect his business because again, the food and servers are very good. Alas, the restaurant did not respond leading me to believe that they either no longer needed our patronage, or this bar tender has an ownership interferes in the place. read more

Cozy yet cool little place with great eats. The warehouse/farmhouse vibe reminded me of some of my early-2000 favorites in the West Loop. Service was quick and staff were super friendly. Food was nothing short of amazing! The beet salad was to die for, and the ahi tuna and bacon wrapped scallops appetizers were mouth watering. Apps are on the smaller side, so make up for it by getting a few! Shrimp and grits were awesome, but be forewarned that the dish is super rich. The leftovers were awesome with a poached egg the next day, though! Parking can be tough in downtown LaGrange, but there is usually something available just north of the restaurant on Burlington. If it's not -9 degrees and you don't mind a short walk, there are also a ton of lots just a few blocks west of the restaurant! read more

We had made a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday night as they are usually very busy. We were about 5 min early and they were ready for us and sat us immediately. The waitress was friendly and made some good recommendations. There is a good beer and wine selection. We split the tomato and burrata salad. The cheese was really rich without being too heavy and the balsamic was good. I had the Mahi and it was delicious the soy sauce was perfect not too salty. My husbands steak was cooked perfectly. The Brussels sprouts were cooked until tender and had great flavor. It is a more expensive restaurant but the quality of the food and service is worth it. read more

I might try the bone marrow next time I go there. For our entrees, I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the braised short ribs. Both really good dishes, and ones we would get again. To wrap up, we had the key lime pie, which was legit key lime pie (i.e. not electric green). The only thing that knocks a star off is the bar. It's ok, but nothing special. I took a friend there last night (I get triple points on my Visa card through this restaurant, which is why I decided to try it out in the first place). It was slow, so we were seated quickly, and Megan (our waitress) started me with a martini. I had the special that evening, two 4 oz. fillets with mushrooms, and a side of spinach ($25). My friend had the veal chop, and a side of bacon mixed brussel sprouts. Food was great... I had the carrot cake for dessert, and my friend had the ice cream. First time ordering. Their menu looked great. Kids had chicken sandwich and a burger which both loved. I had the crab cakes. There were two crab cakes the size of a small cookie and very soggy. My husband had a beet salad which consisted of a tablespoon of diced beets. While my husband said it was good, definitely very underwhelmed. Now comes the husband's main course which was the tuna. The slices of tuna were no bigger than a very thin small eraser. I kid you not. Never again. read more
