    Cream Soup
    Winn H.

Steaking is located in a large plaza with many other eateries; therefore, that it is easy to find parking is no surprise. I visited with a few friends on the weekend, and the wait time was ~ 20 minutes. It's fairly small inside, so that's fair. Once sat, I made a dash for the complimentary cream soup, which is a childhood vice of mine. Unfortunately, I was left scraping the sides of the metal pot for remnants until they brought out the new pot. I was two bowls in, but I had only caved to hunger and an addiction to be snacking on something. The soup was a bit bland and sour, almost like airplane food. :/ There were also complimentary tea, but these were easy to pass on. For our meal, we had a pork steak and egg, which came with garlic toast and also a beef teppanyaki. The pork steak was way overcooked and tough, not the most fun dish to be chewing on. The beef itself was heavily marinated and way too sweet and salty to enjoy. Overall, eating here felt like a chore, and the best part was... finishing dinner since we didn't want to waste food.

I ordered medium rare and got blue rare. It's a thin cut too on a skillet. I shouldn't have to send it back. Really?

Please learn how to cook your steaks. I ordered a ribeye medium rare and it came blue rare. A medium rare is anywhere from 130-140 degrees Fahrenheit. My personal preference is 137 but I'd gladly take anything between 130-140. The ribeye was also a thin cut which is generally easier to cook to the temperature of your choice. So I'm not sure why they fumbled it so bad. Service was great, employees are very nice, place was clean, I like the self service tea and soup they had, but the steak was too damn rare to rate it anything above a 2. They also serve it on a sizzle platter and it was still hella rare by the time the sizzle platter ran outta heat. For a place that calls themselves Steak King, or "Steaking", I would've expected better end results and better consistency. If they fix this issue I'd say this place is a 3-4 star spot. I'd like to come back, but have a conversation with your back of house staff on steak temperatures, first.

Saw Steaking while grabbing food next door and made a mental note to pick up take out later that day after shopping around the plazas. Ordering was quick and easy online right when they reopened at 5pm. Picked up 2 popcorn chicken bentos, fried tofu, and sesame balls with red bean filling (about $50 before tax and tip) and it was ready within 10 minutes. Service was nonexistent when I got there- no acknowledgment and the first girl behind the counter didn't even talk to me. The second girl next to her was eating something and came over to ask for my name before handing me my bag and then walking away. Unfortunately the food was very underwhelming and bland. The popcorn chicken was quite dry and the side dishes were lacking in flavor. The sesame balls were tiny and the red bean filling was minimal. The best item was the fried tofu but it wasn't anything special. Not a huge fan after this one and only experience.

We came in on a Sunday afternoon, and got seated quickly. For three people we ordered the ribeye cooked to medium and the bone broth hot pot with vermicelli. Also added a side of popcorn chicken. They had a self serve of teas and corn soup. Soup was tasty, the star was the ribeye, a pretty good quality cut paired with the mixed sauce ( mushroom and black pepper). Spaghetti was perfectly al dente. Hot pot was standard and pretty good as well. Popcorn chicken was crispy and well seasoned, maybe could have gone just a smidge lighter on the seasoning. Staff were busy, don't expect check ins. A casual interior, it was on the warmer side and the doors were open, it didn't seem like there was any AC. Otherwise a pretty nice portioned place paired with quality and price, would recommend.

Seated promptly, the qR app didn't work properly and server helped us to order immediately. The place overall is clean and well lit but felt kinda greasy I guess due to sizzling iron and oil bouncing around. Love the owner printed his storyline on the wall. Food: 10/10 Rib eye - the steak was placed on top of the spaghetti so it won't continue to cook. Pepper sauce is not too spicy, just right. 5/10 beef on sizzling plate mild but actually kinda spicy, braised pork over rice was mediocre. 10/10 popcorn chicken - crispy juicy and tasty. 8/10 bread and soup - you have to pay extra as add on. 7/10 - Korean kimchi pot - tasted fair but nothing special, ingredients on lower end side. Will come back just for steaks and popcorn chicken for sure, soup and bread depends on how hungry we will be.

A couple of friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a reservation. Steaking is located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, so definitely plan extra time for parking. The food was pretty tasty, but it's not quite as the iron steak we'd get in Taiwan. The flavor just tastes different, and so is the corn soup. The service was pretty decent though, as the food came relatively fast after we've placed the order.

Tried Steaking in Fremont recently and overall had a good experience. The ribeye (med rare) was a good size and cooked well; the mushroom + black pepper sauce combo worked nicely. I found the sauce to be pretty dam tasty, get it on the side and use it as a dip. The noodles on the side were pretty bland, nothing memorable. I did like how it came with a fried egg, corn, and broccoli. It also came with a salad which was like 2 bites and a piece of garlic bread. Priced around $27 for the meal which I found fair considering how much you're getting. Popcorn chicken was a standout and winner in my book. Crispy, juicy, and well seasoned. You can add additional salt/pepper and chili powder yourself, it's located next to the drinks. The beef hot pot unfortunately was a miss. It lacked flavor and there wasn't much in it for the price. A hot pot dipping sauce would have helped; I either missed it or they didn't have any. Stick to Tasty Pot/Boiling Point if you're craving hot pot and just order the sizzling hot plates here until they improve it. I did like that they offer free green and black tea and the self-serve setup is actually something I prefer. Service was decent, nothing amazing but no complaints either. Overall, a solid spot if you're in the area, but probably not somewhere I'd go out of my way for unless you're craving a sizzling plate with black pepper/mushroom sauce. I do appreciate the owner's effort to connect with the community and continuously improve the restaurant. I would come back and I wish them the best of luck!

This place hits the spot when you're craving Taiwanese style steak. I've gotten the new york and the boneless short rib sizzling plate and enjoyed both; it really just comes down to your preferred cut. They were accurate with the cook times and it came out a true medium rare. The meat doesn't sit directly on the sizzling plate so it doesn't cook much more. I suggest getting the mushroom and black pepper sauces combo on the side for more sauce. As part of your meal, there is also unlimited tea, soup, and garlic bread. You can get extra noodles without any surcharge. I also got the puff pastry soup and this will likely be a one time order. While the pastry is nice, the soup is essentially the free corn soup with 2 pieces of shrimp and a piece of imitation crab added. They also have teppanyaki, hot pot, and bento options, but I've not tried.

I've came to Steaking a few more times after my first review. I don't know what has changed, but the experiences after the first visit has just gone downhill. Service wasn't great, staff were not really friendly or welcoming. One of the times the steaks that were ordered to be medium were pretty much raw - like difficult to cut raw. One other time the cut of the boneless short rib has a big part of fat on it. Also, the upgraded soup with puff pastry had extra shrimp & imitation crab inside, which was nice, but somehow the soup tasted a bit sour. They posted on their Instagram 3 days ago that they're officially starting this special event when you check out - if you participate in tossing the crescent shape wooden blocks and get a "holy cap", you can get different items/discount. However, when we asked the staff, they said "oh we are not doing that". Okay. I want to support local businesses, especially a Taiwanese owned business, but for the price & service...I will unfortunately hesitate to return in the future.

My husband has been on a pepper sauce hunt for a while and has been tying to the find the best ones in our area. This one popped up as a potential so decided to check it out. They do have a big selection of different steaks, chicken, pork, and seafood. That works out for those that don't eat meat or has to eat seafood because of lent. We opted to share a Ribeye Steak which is advertised for $27.49. That's ok considering it comes with: -a drink (either black sweetened tea, or green unsweetened tea) which you get yourself -salad (this was really really tiny) -garlic bread (this was a smidge of garlic butter on a toasted white bread) -soup of the day (THIS WAS MISSING, WE HAD NO SOUP) fail... The hot plate came out hot, sizzling ribeye on top of the spaghetti, with one egg, some broccoli and some baby corn. We poured the pepper sauce on top of the plate and watched it cook. The taste of the sauce went well with steak which was pretty tender. We also ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot pot (medium spicy) which was $22.99, so I can try it. But dammmmm it was so spicy! I couldn't eat it. My husband didn't like it either. He said there wasn't enough toppings for the price he paid and the spice was slight overkill. The prices seem higher than other places that serve these dishes. I suspect location and rent is higher so therefore prices of the dishes are also higher. Service was not good either. No one checked on us after they served us which is why they probably forgot our soup.

We came here for the Wednesday BOGO free teppanyaki and tried a few extra items as it was our first time. The teppanyaki here is solid, my favorite one being the duck breast one. So juicy and the mushroom sauce was flavorful. I will say it was in the expensive side. Even the king oyster mushroom teppanyaki was flavorful. However, the taiwanese spicy pot I got was wayyy too salty. I almost couldn't finish because of how salty it was. Weekday lunch they also have all you can drink soup and tea. The service was very friendly and fast, especially considering they were packed! Place itself is casual and a bit tight, but nothing terrible.

Ribeye Steak, Spicy Taiwanese Hot Pot
    Alisa B.

The popcorn chicken here is really good, so I'm giving them an extra star just for that. Perfect texture and seasoned just right! Loved the crispy basil too. I'd come back just for the popcorn chicken haha Steaking is definitely known for their steak skillets with pasta, sauces, and veggies. I ordered the ribeye, which was HUGE! Pretty good quality in terms of marbling and fattiness. The mushroom sauce was an interesting addition, not so much umami - but definitely sweet with tomato vibes. The baby corn and broccoli was fine, but the pasta was reminding me of Jollibee at one point... but overall an amusing and unique approach to a ribeye steak! Casual and fun! We also tried out their hot pot options, and we went for the Taiwanese Spicy Soup. The broth was very flavorful and the portions were okay. Lamb was thinly sliced and fatty. Lots of veggies and tofu varieties. Overall... this was decent, but not a must try!

boneless short rib and new your strip steak with tempura fish cake
    Hannah D.

We ordered the Boneless Short Rib, New York Strip Steak with the mixed sauce, and the Fish Cake Tempura. When the fish cake tempura first arrived, we actually thought it was a basket of French fries! We ended up dipping it in ketchup before realizing what it was. While it was crispy and enjoyable, it was a bit bland on its own and benefited from the extra sauce. Both of us ordered our steaks medium rare, but they arrived closer to medium well. Fortunately, the steaks were served on sizzling hot plates, so I assume some of the additional cooking happened at the table. Despite that, the meal was still enjoyable. The overall presentation reminded me a lot of the Vietnamese dish bò né. The sizzling platter came with steak, noodles, eggs, and bread, creating a similar interactive and comforting dining experience. The bread was especially great for soaking up the sauces and flavors from the plate. One of the highlights was the corn soup, which was surprisingly sweet and delicious. The complimentary teas were also a nice touch and helped balance some of the richness and oiliness of the meal. The portions were very generous, and the meal included a variety of unlimited side items and self-serve options, making it feel like a great value for the price. The restaurant was clean, well-maintained, and organized. Service was excellent throughout our visit. Our server was friendly, attentive, and took the time to explain the menu and different options available. Overall, this isn't a place I would visit regularly, but I'm glad I tried it. The large portions, unique presentation, and variety of included items made for a fun and worthwhile dining experience.

I didn't try the fried intestines but was told there were okay. The stinky tofu not really stinky. I think it is because we are in the US and many restaurants stopped selling this due to complaints. I can take that but the dipping sauce was lacking with no garlic flavor. The other items were nothing to write home about. We were waiting for our stir fried seafood noodles and finally waved down someone only to find out it is out, but no one told us. So we ordered pork chop bento as we saw the next table had one and the portion was amazing. Well, someone must have eaten our order in the kitchen as ours was half of the size as what we saw from the other table. The decor was very simple and as with most Asian restaurant it was noisy. But I was there for the food so no problem. But the food didn't deliver.

A waiter told me they don't take credit cards when I was trying to pay. I was like, okay, maybe I should have done more research before I went there. So I tried to talk to him to see if there's any other options, like Zelle or Venmo, or maybe I can go to a nearby ATM and get some cash. He ignored me and did not respond, and left. I walked around, was finally able to get a waitress who was willing to talk to me. I explained that I didn't know they only took cash and I wonder if I can pay through other ways. She pointed at the wall and told me "it says on the wall", sounding like blaming me for not getting cash ready. Yes, maybe I should have read all the signs on the wall, but I really don't enjoy being blamed when I did nothing wrong. Assuming credit cards as one of the payment methods is not my fault, just how the society works. Anyway, I was able to pay them via Venmo, but I did not enjoy the experience at all.
