Came to Mutanke BBQ (慕碳客烧烤) and left very happy. This is Chinese-style charcoal skewer bbq done right! everything arrives hot, smoky, and packed with flavor. The lamb and beef skewers were tender with the perfect amount of char and cumin spice, and the grilled ox tongue was a standout. The seafood is where it really shines though. The grilled oysters and scallop vermicelli come loaded with garlic and scallions and were some of the best bites of the night. Almost everything on the menu runs a buy 5 get 1 free deal, so it's easy to order a big spread without the bill getting out of hand. Great spot for sharing with a group.

How did I just find out the Bay Area has BBQ that's as good as the one I had in Texas…read more Come with me to Smoking Pig BBQ, and they've been quietly smoking meats low and slow since 2011. Every brisket, rib, and pulled pork shoulder is smoked for hours over real oak and apple wood. And you can taste it in the tenderness of the meat. The brisket is rich, smoky, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The pulled pork is packed with flavor and practically falls apart with every bite. The ribs are juicy, perfectly seasoned, and pass the pull test every single time. This is my first time having burnt ends and they were bursting with savory flavor but doesn't taste burnt at all. This place isn't just about the food either because the whole family can enjoy watching the World Cup right here. And right now, when you order any main dish, you can get ONE FREE item of your choice link in my bio: Wolf Turds, Wolf Turd Quesadilla, Mac & Cheese Balls, BBQ Beans, or Banana Pudding. The voucher link is in my bio or comment BBQ to get it sent in your DM. Trust me... It's time to put Smoking Pig BBQ back on the map.

Their lean is too hard and dry even with the sauces. Burnt ends - juicy and perfectly cooked. Spareribs - The meats falls off the bone pretty easily and has good flavor. Peanut butter pie - Too sweet to my liking. Banana pudding - It's good, but also too sweet for my liking.

Review of 2 experiences in a week…read more [Appetizers] - Crispy Chicken Skin ($6.50): Can never go wrong with crispy chicken skin! I like that they have their sauce on the side rather than drizzle it all over the dish. - Truffle Brussel Sprouts ($6.50): A bit salty and I personally did taste the truffle, but still a good with beer. - Chicken Skin Gyoza ($4.95): Surprisingly good. I thought the chicken skin would be too thick and crunchy but it was good. Appreciate the decent amount of filling too. [Skewers] price per each - Thigh ($2.80): Moist and juicy. Would order again. - Wings ($2.80): A must order as it's delicious with the tare sauce they grill it with. - Gizzard ($2.60): Pretty good. Well cooked and nicely seasoned. - Negi Tofu ($2.60): Flavorful but I do wish they were a tad bigger. - Eggplant ($2.30): It was a bit bland for me but nothing togarashi can't fix. - Pork Neck ($3.10): Nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. Another one to add to my favorites! - Duck Breast ($4.20): This was a bit disappointing as I was expecting a flavor bomb that was juicy. Not to say it wasn't good though, it's decent. - Unagi ($4.20): Not bad as unagi goes. Not too salty. - Japanese A5 Wagyu ($16): Sad to say this was also a bit lacking for me because all we got was fat and a sliver of meat. I'm sure not all skewers are like this for this item, so maybe we got unlucky. Not sure I'd get this again though. - Hokkaido Scallop ($16): Delicious! I hope they keep this on their menu! It came with a bit of mayo and lemon. - Scallop ($4.20): If you don't want to splurge on the Hokkaido scallop, this is also pretty good. One skewer comes with 3. - Ranch Beef Tongue ($7.95): Decent flavor wise, so I'd probably order it again next time. - Chicken Skin ($5): Also not bad but I'd say the crispy chicken skin is more up my alley. - Grilled Onion ($2.30): Grilled nicely and tastes good with the meat skewers or even with a splash of lemon or dipped in ponzu sauce. - Breast w/ Shiso ($2.80): I really wanted to like this but the breast was dry. The shiso flavor definitely came through. - Chicken Shoulder ($2.60): Decent. Wasn't dry but did lack a tad bit of flavor. - Cherry Tomato ($1.90): Always a nice add some refreshing veggies to balance out my usually meat heavy meal. [Drinks] - Shikuwasa ($12): I'm so glad I ordered this. Would definitely order this again. Decently sweet with a nice flavor of yuzu and perfect amount of Chu Hi! - Lemonade Chu Hi ($8.50): I wanted to like this but it just doesn't taste as good as the Shikuwasa. It's definitely a lot less flavorful and sweet, so if you prefer a toned down version of the Shikuwasa, try this one. - Hakutsuru Sake ($12/180ml): My bf enjoyed this. Since I'm not too big of a sake drinker, I'd still say it's pretty palatable. [Service] - Attentive, fast, helpful - Walked in on a Saturday at 7:30pm for 2 and was seated right away at the bar. There were maybe 1-2 more spots at the bar opened but got filled up pretty quick. No line an hour after we left. - Came here twice. First time was great at 7:30pm, but our second time the service felt a bit off (was there around 11pm-12am) and we realized they missed an item after we left but still got charged for it. [Ambiance] - Fun Japanese izakaya vibes - Has bar and table seatings - Only 1 restroom [Overall] - My favs are the crispy chicken skin, chicken skin gyoza, thigh, pork neck, wings, Hokkaido scallop, gizzard, negi tofu, cherry tomato and the Shikuwasa! - If you are vegan, let the staff know you'd like the vegetable skewers with no bonito flakes as some do come with it. - Enjoyed the food, atmosphere and drinks, so I'll definitely come back to try their Nabemono, Saba, and squid. Love especially that they open late!

He had no idea that I had this saved so we ended up giving it a try. Dude. So good. The house special fried rice is crack albeit a little pricey ($13.99 compared to regular white rice at $2.49/bowl) but they pack it with a lot of different ingredients. It's perfect with some veggies like the chive skewers. We also loved the classic beef and lamb (minimum order of two) and lamb belly (comes in two skewers). The cut on the lamb belly is smaller than the classic lamb. The Taiwanese sausage, bbq pork with garlic, and tofu wraps (comes in ten skewers) were also delicious. Only skippable thing was the a-choy. The flavors weren't too spicy and they have a lot of drink options. Service was relatively quick but sometimes confusing in the order that it comes out. We ordered everything at the same time but the chives came out first and the a-choy came out last? Plenty of parking in the plaza; friendly (enough) service. It's a plus if you know Mandarin lol. Total was about $60 after tax and tip. We'll definitely be back!

Refreshing Cold Noodles and a Great Variety of Skewers…read more This was a standout meal that balanced comfort and something a little different. I came in mostly curious about the skewers, but the cold noodles ended up being the surprise highlight. Cold Noodles If you're on the fence about cold noodle soup -- get this. The broth is lightly tangy and deeply refreshing without being overly sweet or vinegary. The noodles had the perfect bite, and the sliced cucumber added crunch and brightness. Topped with two soft-boiled eggs and fresh cilantro, it was simple but extremely satisfying. On a hot day, this hits the spot in a way hot ramen just can't. And even though it's light and chilled, it's still filling. Grilled Skewers There were a lot of unique options and cuts -- lamb, chicken, beef, and more. Each skewer was well seasoned and cooked properly, with a good char but never dry. The flavors leaned slightly smoky with a hint of spice, and the meat was tender. It's a great way to try a few different proteins without committing to a big entrée. Overall Experience There was a bit of a language barrier when ordering, but the staff was friendly and made sure everything came out as expected. The service was fast, and the atmosphere was casual but comfortable. If you're looking for something outside the usual ramen or hot pot spots, this is absolutely worth visiting. Great variety, excellent flavors, and that cold noodle bowl alone makes it worth the trip. Highly recommended

We ordered a whole duck to-go. We got home and it was COLD. Like it was sitting in the refrigerator for days and they just repacked it for sale. After warning it up, it was evident that this duck wasn't made fresh. Parts of it were so tough and dry it was equivalent to jerky. If you like your duck DAYS OLD, I repeat.... DAYS OLD and DRY, get it from here. For me, I will never return again.
