Visited Ping's with some friends and ordered a few dishes to share. Everything we had was delicious, and there wasn't a single plate that we didn't enjoy. The service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated. The best thing we ordered was the Sizzling Yellow Croaker with Fried Garlics (9/10). The fish was super crispy, and the sweet, garlicky skin was incredibly addictive. I would 100% order this every time I come back. We also had the Shredded Cabbage with Sliced Pork (8/10), which was nice and tangy. The cabbage soaked up all the sauce, making every bite packed with flavor, while the pork provided a great contrast to the vegetables. The House Special Fried Rice with Pickle & Beef (7/10) wasn't anything extraordinary, but it served as a great base alongside the other dishes. The pickles were an interesting addition, as I've never had fried rice prepared that way before, but I definitely enjoyed it. Finally, we decided to try the House Special Spicy Frog in Stone Pot (6.5/10) since most of us had never had frog before. The flavor was outstanding, with a great umami depth and just the right amount of spice. The frog itself was a little difficult to eat because of the large number of bones, but the meat was tender and juicy. Replacing the frog with another protein probably would have made it more favorable, but I still enjoyed trying something new and didn't regret ordering it. Overall, Ping's Bistro is a great spot for outstanding Chinese food. Every dish we tried was enjoyable, and there are still so many items on the menu I'd love to come back and explore. If I were to sum up my meal in one word, I can do it easily: salty. Every dish I've tried today was incredibly salty. Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. We had a great meal at Ping's Bistro. They're known for Yunnan-style food and their specialty is with mushrooms. We ordered the wild mushroom stir-fry and it was fantastic. Thinking back on my delicious dinner at Ping's Bistro in Fremont, two things stand out for me: the delicious food, and the heat level. We ordered a variety of dishes, and all of them were fantastic. As my friend mentioned, a little bit saucier than you'd typically find in China, but still good. And we ordered everything extra spicy. The "Premium stir-fried beef with yellow peppers (with broth, Angus beef with brisket fat)" was a great saucy start to the meal, it had a nice sour flavor to go with the mild-medium heat and was very fresh tasting. "Husband and Wife Lung Slices" was good, standard and a smidge oily, but tasty. The tendons (there are no lungs, just beef and beef tendons) were cooked nicely, with just a hint of chew but tender. Again mild-medium "Stone Pot Flavored Frog" is where things started to get really good. This was one of the best dishes of the night, and the best frog I've ever had. So tender, with a nice crispy exterior, and so much flavor. This was delicious. If you've never tried frog, this is the one to get. A nice break from the heat was "Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens". I was told that this was a bit leaner than what you'd expect in China, but for me the meltingly soft, rich pork belly and chewy greens made into little mantou-tacos was great. It has a nice sweet/sour flavor and zero heat. Now, by far the spiciest dish we ordered was "Double Pepper Chicken Noodles". Delicious noodles, fresh chilies, great almost crispy texture from the wok, but this was firmly in medium-hot category. Everyone started to sweat and get runny noses eating this one. But the flavor was addictive. Some notes - the parking lot is big, but you may have to walk a bit. This is because this restaurant on a Saturday night was absolutely packed. I came around 6:30 and there were 9 tables on the waitlist ahead of me. I wouldn't say it moved quickly, and the area to wait in is cramped. So best bet is to come early or go wait somewhere else. They have an online waitlist that sends a text when your table is ready, so there's no need to stick around being jostled by people entering and exiting. Service was efficient. My friend ordered (in Mandarin) so I didn't follow what was happening, but the food arrived very hot and very quickly, and they nicely pack up your leftovers themselves. Overall - fantastic. I found some new favorites, had some good versions of things I already like, and while it certainly isn't cheap it was worth it. Oddly enough they added an 18% tip automatically. Fair enough, I would normally tip 20% for dinner but if 18% works I'm not complaining. Unfortunately the location isn't convenient for me and the food would be a bit challenging for most of my friends, so I probably won't be back soon. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it wasn't my favorite compared to some other places in the area. My friend and I were looking forward to the intestines but unfortunately they don't make it anymore. We diverted and ended up getting mapo tofu, pork belly, and chogqing chicken. My friends and I came for a late lunch around 1 PM. After ordering, all four dishes arrived extremely quickly--within about 5 to 10 minutes. We ordered the Chongqing-Style Spicy Chicken, sautéed eggplant with string beans, steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables, and the boiled spicy fish fillet with pickled cabbage. Overall, the food was delicious. Our surprise favorite was the eggplant dish. Came here after seeing my friend post a picture of this garlic fish, and she told us it was so good. So we got the yellow croaker fish and it was indeed very delicious. My family are not into spicy foods but it looks like this place serves lots of spicy food. Good thing they were able to accommodate not spicy on all our orders. So, that's a big plus with my family bcuz we have been places where they can't adjust how spicy the dish is. Love the decoration of the place, very modern feel with the murals style walls. I've gotten several of their dishes such as the spicy beef, spicy ribs, mapo tofu, sautéed shrimp, crawfish, spicy boiled fish, and more! My friend and I love Szechuan food, so I'm always searching for new Szechuan places to try! My go to's are always mapo tofu, spicy fish fillet in chili oil, and chongqing spicy fried chicken. I first tried Ping's bistro around a year ago and I remember it being amazing! We got spicy fish fillet (which was super smooth), a lamb chop dish (which was super flavorful and not too gamey), and an eggplant appetizer (which was slightly tangy, nice and refreshing). That's all to say I've been meaning to come back and try all my usual go to dishes! So I went back to Ping's bistro today with my mom, and we got the usual mapo tofu, chongqing spicy fried chicken, and a beef tripe appetizer. The mapo tofu was so good! Super flavorful, good chunks of meat in the sauce, and the tofu was so soft and smooth. It was a little bit salty though, so definitely need to load up on the rice. The fried chicken was good, but they cut up the pieces quite small, so each piece wasn't as satisfying. I've definitely had better at other places. The beef tripe was decent. It was nice to balance the heat of the other dishes with a cold dish (though still spicy cause I love that spice)! I didn't realize that it would come with small bits of century egg though, which is not my favorite. Overall decent, but I wouldn't order it again. Finally, I got an iced kumquat drink with chia seeds and it was fantastic. Perfect way to cool down after a spicy meal! If I'm in the mood for Szechuan food, I'd definitely go back! I don't go out for Chinese food very often and I don't know as many good places in South Bay, but apparently east bay is where it's at, as this place clearly shows. The pork belly had really good flavor and I was actually a huge fan that it wasn't as fatty as it sometimes is (I know that's the good stuff, just not personally a fan or the fat). The fish was also really yummy and was my favorite. The fish was so tender and there were also noodles, cabbage, and sprouts in the dish as well. The spicy chicken was alright for me, not as much chicken, mostly the chili. I did love the numbing mala type seasoning that chongqing chicken is known for. The restaurant are not full, however the host said everyone have to be present in order to be seated. Fair enough. After we sat down, no water no greeting. Waited 15 mins for water and plus I told them to bring us water. We order a few dish, one of them listed as "tiger prawn" but in reality is just frozen shrimp, totally not worth $40 something. During the meal we got asked twice if we need boxes and there is a lady just drop us off the check. The whole meal is less than an hour we keep getting rushed to pay and leave. We came here around lunch time and got seated after waiting in line for 10 mins. They were super busy but food came out pretty quickly. One thing I really love about this place is our server. He asked us if normal spicy is ok and I told him we can't handle a lot of heat and if he can make it a tiny bit less spicy. He told us there are certain dishes that are super spicy he will try to reduce the spiciness for us. Most dishes can be made not spicy. I have a lighter palate so even non-spicy dishes were bit too salty/soy sauce infused after a while. Veggies were fresh/crisp. I don't even know what a croaker is, and it looks like a piranha when it's all fried up, but that fish just flakes so perfectly and melts in your mouth. Also great is the Chairman Mao Braised Pork. I'm guessing the menu has drastically changed through the years because most of the pictures posted are no longer served. One thing that really stood out is their plain white rice. There was a wait for two and other large parties were waiting an hour before closing. You order through a QR code at the table and there's English or Chinese. One thing I didn't like was the place wasn't well irrigated so the whole restaurant smelled like food. Then when the employees clean the tables around you, you get hit with a cloud of chemicals. Several waiters stopped by to refill water and offered us bowls for our rice dish. The food tastes as good as it looks. I'd order the entire menu if I could. 5/5 --- *Sliced Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce* This appetizer was recommended by our friends. It's thinly sliced cucumber and pork on a mound of beansprouts topped with a mild spicy, numbing garlic sauce. The sauce was addictive and plate-licking worthy. Very savory and delicious, but not really spicy if that's what you're looking for. I'd highly recommend ordering this dish. *Fish Fillet with Flaming Chili Oil* This dish is HUGE. It comes with a lot of broth so it's great for leftovers with some noodles. :) The fish was perfectly cooked and the broth was tasty. Definitely felt the numbing spice with this dish. *Hunan Style Sauteed Pork with Steamed Rice* This is a mild dish that everyone can enjoy. The waiter kindly mixed the pork and its sauce with the rice, which was beautifully cooked. Not mushy or too dry. Soooo good and addictive. read more

Had dinner here with the fam -- it was my first time trying Hunan cuisine. My take is that there are basically some form of chilli oil, spicy peppers, and garlic infused in everything. The spice level even at its highest was not spicy for me but my cousin said he felt the heat. When you arrive, you're seated at an intimate dining area appropriate for your party size. From there, you scan the QR code to review the extensive digital menu. We ordered a variety of dishes including fish, braised pork, Ma-Po Tofu soup, some greens, beef tripe, pork intestines, and preserved eggs soaked in some sort of vinegar brine. All of the dishes had its individual distinctive flavor but were all topped off with the garlic and chili sauce. Definitely was a cool first time experience. I think I I will learn to appreciate the dishes more after having this cuisine at least a few more times. P.S. don't order their desserts -- not exactly the ideal kind of sweet treat we were expecting. read more
