My friend and I, were there yesterday for breakfast. The waitress we had gave us very bad service. She didn't serve us the complete meal. She left behind the biscuit and gravy and a side of pancakes. She had also offered us salsa, which it never made it on the table. We talked to another waitress, which she apologized to us. We got up to pay, and our waitress had charged us the full amount. we said no, we didn't get the complete meal. She said we were getting it to go, the biscuits and gravy. Oh no, we don't want it anymore. We where there to dine in, we didn't order to go. It was our first time there, don't think I will go back. What a jewel of a place in East County. Eclectic decor, laid back, really good food, friendly service and good portions. Looked like everyone walked out with a doggy box. Their biscuit & gravy combination was exceptional. The biscuit just melted in my mouth and the gravy with chunks of sausage was a perfect compliment. I have really tried to like this place since I am walking distance from my house after a night out. Don't hate it but don't love it. Kind of indifferent about it. I like this place because of the food menu. A step above regular. Love the fish Friday until tonight. Two weeks ago and the time before the fish was excellent! The fish was thick and the right amount of batter. However, tonight, I was like I was eating fish from Van de Kamp's from Albertsons. It was thin triangles. The fish inside was hardly noticeable and mushy. I didn't say anything hoping it was a off night and may have supply chain issues. However, there was a couple next to us, the guy order the fish as well. The bartender asked if everything was on after seeing he barely ate the fish. His reply was "No", and complained about the fish. Can't say I blame him. Hope they correct this issue. I did have a quesadilla on a previous occasion. it was excellent, great portions, tasty with lots of meat. One last thing, I love Miller light, unfortunately they don't have that selection, have to settle for a Coors on draft, which nice and cold. I will definitely give it another chance because I like this place. Such a good variety of food selection from lobster, bbq to burgers. There is also live music, although I've not stayed long enough to check out the talent. Give it a shot, I think you will like it. Hope they review the comments here. While I get that this place has a roundhouse vibe and my expectations were reasonable heading in the door, this place is an absolute joke. 3 adults and 5 kids, food took over an hour, drinks took 20 mins after ordering, 2 orders were wrong, food came so inconsistently that waitress dropped the entire order through six table visits. What a Hidden Gem. The food is outstanding. Biscuits and the best Gravy I've had in a long time. The service was exceptional. Shea was awesome. She asked our names and as we were leaving she yelled by to us by name. The owner is just as awesome. He talks to people at their tables. Also asking our names. Delicious authentic Mexican fare. My husband had an excellent seafood dish that included the most tender and tasty octopus. Their enchiladas suiza had juicy chicken breast topped with a light creamy sauce. Their buffalo wings were also on point. Our waitress, Makayla (sp?) was incredibly helpful with menu suggestions. She was also extremely friendly and attentive. We will definitely be returning. Update from a previous review: I had to take away two stars because we had the most inexperienced waitress ever! She didn't know the items on the menu, only came around to take our order and to deliver the food and bill; never checked on us, etc. she was lacking in basic customer service skills. I wonder if she was even trained? It sure didn't seem like it. Otherwise the food was spot on and delicious. I just hope they hire better waitresses. read more

We came to the Steele 94 this morning with our family for the first time. We are a large party (11 adults & 3 kids), but we did take that into consideration and made a reservation. When we arrived there were only 2 other tables with guests. It was not busy. We sat at our table and ordered drinks. It took 50 minutes to receive our drink order, so we weren't off to the best start. We then ordered our food. Our server was very nice but clearly overwhelmed. Once our food began to arrive it was delivered randomly to each of us at at our table at different times over the next hour. We soon realized we were either receiving food we didn't order, food that was cold, was the wrong order, missing certain parts of our order, and then it became blatantly apparent that some of us didn't receive our food at all. Many tables got up and left during our visit because they never received their drink order after waiting far too long and others because they never received any attention at all. It's unfortunate because it's a cool little place, but we will not be back. read more

Yelp doesn't give the option to give zero stars but if I could, I would. The service is horrible. The waitress had an attitude the whole time since we walked in. Ordering our food took another 20 minutes after our drinks. She never came back out to refill our drinks and when we reordered drinks they were sitting at the bar for a good 10 minutes. We had to get up and get them ourselves. Mind you, the establishment was not even busy. The manager had given us a coupon for a free entree with the purchase of an entree but the waitress added automatic gratuity which ended up being the same thing. When she initially gave us the bill, the gratuity wasn't included, it wasn't until we asked for the discount that she added it. Don't waste your time eating here. Someone shared a partial menu in the app, Nextdoor, for breakfasts under $10, Monday thru Friday between 8-11am. My husband and I decided to give them a try. We were too late for the bargain breakfasts, but we found other options we liked and were definitely NOT disappointed with our meals. The gentleman that greeted us was very friendly, kind and accommodating for my husband, who has a handicap. Our food was delicious and hot and our waitress, Terry, was very helpful, friendly and great as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning for another meal. There's also a bar for anyone interested. They start with breakfast and end with dinner. The atmosphere is warm & friendly like the old times. A little known gem in Jamul! This is a family owned and run restaurant with a very large menu certain to have something that everyone likes. I tried Grandma's chicken enchiladas which were very good - although I prefer a sauce with a bit more kick. My husband had the el pastor tacos and he loved them! They use high quality ingredients and it shows in the great taste of each dish! Valentin's carries Spanish Peacock Winery wines that are 100% estate grown right in Jamul. Excellent! The entire staff, owners (one of whom is Valentin the chef) are so friendly that they make you feel truly welcome and special the entire time you are there! We live down the street and this was my 1st time trying. Their margaritas were really amazing. I was not expecting that and would go back just for those alone. Love their chips and salsa. Our family has been wanting to try since we saw the new place open. We decided we would try tonight. Not really impressed. Everything seem to salty. The favor of the meat was just okay nothing special. Had the Carne Asada plate. Asked the serve for no guac instead could I get sour cream. Was charge an extra $1.50 for sour cream. Margarita tasted as if came from cheap margarita mix with Tequila added. It was very tart. All in all I feel for $58 for 3 people. I could have made a better meal at home for less. That being said Carne had no flavor, was brought lemons instead of limes, had two sips of coke left and was told they can't bring another one until it was finished. The cosmetic changes in the restaurant paid off --- this new venue has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a super friendly staff! My husband and I were lucky enough to be Hector's first solo diners as a server and he's a natural. You can tell there's a lot of thought and care that goes into their menu offering with a family recipe touch. Came here on a Saturday Night! My fiancé and I live in Rancho SD and we were wanting some good Mexican food. Remembered about Valentins from a recommended by a friend. We had the Beef Fajitas and Grandmas enchiladas. Both were great! Service was friendly. Atmosphere is family friendly and fun. My Corvette Club went on a run here from Escondido for a wine tasting hosted by Spanish Peacock Winery (who makes amazing old world wines in Jamul) We had 20 people for wine & lunch and it was a great time. The food was served fresh and hot. My carne asada burrito was filled with thick juicy chunks of meat and all the right fillings. The hostess's were really friendly and right on top of every order. If you are in the area, or just need a good place to chill w/ good food, a full bar, and some really cool people do stop here. We will definitely do it again. read more

Some quirks, like the sweet enchilada sauce, but I think it may be a family recipe, something I'm not used to. The rice isn't your typical Spanish rice. Stopped by in on our way back from Baja. The restaurant has a very cool vibe. The waitress was super friendly and fun and my burger was delicious. Based on the I'd be back BUT... The owner was very friendly but after a short while he was handing me campaign literature and telling me that the Bible has predicted the end is near due to our one world government, forced vaccinations (?), and the government taking away everyone's guns. When he got on the topic of Covid he topped it off with "Show me the bodies." After I explained that we may have different opinions he said "They told me I shouldn't do this," so I'll guess he's done that before I try to be open minded and hate to leave negative reviews but I don't think it's fair or good business when a customer is looking for a good meal but has to hear someone's political/religious opinions. She was very unprofessional and tried apologizing once she realized the employees family was in the bar and had heard her.
