We arrived on a Sunday night at 7:40 pm and the bartender came to our table to explain that the food area and bar are separate. We could not really tell but it was not a problem. We ordered food from a young man who was confused about the register and ended up coming back to explain to us that he undercharged me for the 4 pork skewers. I also ordered a pound of wings. My niece order Philly cheesesteak and fries. Despite ordering drinks too the bartender came back to explain that since food and drinks are separate that we had to pay separate. Had heard that this place was very similar to Fast Eddie's in Alton, IL. Since I love Fast Eddie's, but live in the city of STL, Stella Blues piqued my interest. Upon entry, I was a little taken aback by the dog laying under the table INSIDE the bar. I'm a true dog lover, but in a restaurant - inside?? It was a tiny lil thing, but still.... Other than that, I was NOT disappointed! The first thing I noticed is how unbelievably clean the place is. (Compared to F.E. which is kinda grimy, imho). The windows SPARKLED! Floors and tables clean, as well! They get cool points from me just for the cleanliness! Once you get past the "rules" (cash only, no tabs, no carry outs, no doggie bags, order your own food at the kitchen counter in the back) it's a great place to eat and have a drink from the full bar! It was a little concerning; however, when I asked the COOK what the difference was in the two chicken offerings on the menu and he said "he didn't know because the names of the items got changed. Ummmm..you're the COOK..do you not know what it is you're serving up back there?! Anyway, my husband and I ordered one of each and both were great! Like F.E., the prices are very cheap. Oh, and FREE popcorn!! I didn't make it out to the patio (it was chilly the night we went - but I'll check it out in the spring). And we don't have to drive all the way to the East side!! Absolutely love this place, they offer a great atmosphere. I absolutely love coming here for food drinks and a place to chill. There is a rule where you have to buy a drink to order the delicious food. But the drinks are totally affordable as is the food. I especially love the beef kabobs you have to try one if you're there. They also have a new pork kochi kabob that is so delicious and spicy, it is only a $1. Like what a deal. I also like the sauce bar, the Chipotle mayo is a great condiment for the fries. Saw the sign while driving down Morgan Ford and decided to turn around and stop in. I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by what this little bar had to offer! The crowd was young but of a diverse background. The bar itself reminded me a bit of Fast Eddie's Bon Air out in Alton, but Stella Blues has the advantage of not being a long drive out in IL. The bartenders for the night were a Korean mom and son, who were both friendly, though the son was pretty quiet. You don't see that every day. The food selection was quirky with a Korean influence, e.g. kimchi pizza with smoked bacon. Thought it was kind of funny that their Civil Life beer was cheaper ($4.75) than what Civil Life was charging at its brewery ($5). Oh yeah, my favorite sign from the night: "The sharif don't like it. I have found a new favorite bar! This place had a divey feel without being gross as some dive bars can be. The drinks were good quality, we had quick service and the bartender and cook were both so friendly! They have specials throughout the week and some really great ones such as $3 wells! For food, I only tried the mozzarella sticks and they were typical mozzarella sticks served with a side of sauce (hit the right spot after some drinking). The space is on the smaller side, so I would not recommend if you have a big party but for a handful of friends for a fun place to drink; It is perfect. read more

Just like everyone else has said, it is a mini fast eddies, but closer to home. Myself, my boyfriend and a friend of ours went down to morganford looking to go to 3 monkeys but since it was a World Cup USA showing, sadly none of the bars up that way had any tables, let alone anywhere to stand. We walked up to Stella Blues and decided why not? It was well worth our walk! We grabbed a table on the patio right by the TV. Great seats for the game. We got a round of drinks and some food. Although it's a very "do it yourself" no server place, it worked out. The bartender was great, drinks were cheap and delicious! They even have frozen drinks just like fast eddies (yum!) As far as food goes, we started with their hot wings, boy were they hot. Super spicy but delicious. We then ordered a pizza (just cheese) and it was so good as well! Later that night we tried their version of a chick on a stick. Just chicken wings grilled and put on a stick but still very flavorful! I moved to south city a little over a year ago. Stella Blues being right down from my house seemed like a great place. I would drive down, grab a drink, use their WiFi, and eat some really good bar food. Then, it all went downhill. They changed their ownership, and tried this new 'Fast Eddies' style concept. First off, NOBODY can compete with Fast Eddies in Alton, that place is amazing. This place? Cheap ripoff, at best. We walked in, wanted to grab a bit, and maybe a drink. Eh, no. You MUST buy a drink before you can buy food. Oh, and only use cash because god forbid we use plastic. There was *maybe* 2-3 other people around one table, and nobody else in this place. I walked up to the bar to order a drink, and received no service. There was an asian couple behind the counter who completely ignored us, as if we didn't belong. I tried saying "Excuse Me", but they ignored me. I will never go back, and I would recommend anyone who wants a better atmosphere hit up any other bar on Morganford. read more

So I came here on the recommendation from the SO. I am usually the one to give out the bar and eatery tips.... He surprised me this time! This place is a bar and it has beer and liquor. Do they have a fancy smancy cocktails list...no. Do they have a ton of craft beers... I think so but I only order PBR so you will have to read the other reviews. What I can tell you is that this is some of the best bar food I may have ever had. Everything is cooked to order. You will have to try the pork tenderloin and the tempura chicken bites.... Oh and the Asian sticky wings. I can go on and on about the food but you have to come down and try it. Bring your appetite and plenty of cash. They do have an ATM if you have to get your fix. Its Back!!! I used to love Stella before they closed a couple of years ago. It was a dive, but then again it wasn't. You didnt have a bunch of people who looked like they just came from clubs on Washington but then again there werent any bums either. Usually had a cool mash-up DJ or small band on the weekends. Just a cool relaxing weekend hang out. The new version seems to be pretty much the same but there were a few things that threw me off. 1. too much lighting. It was really bright and just seemed weird. 2. the waitresses outfits. Im all for a skimpy outfit here and there but the Jim Edmonds shirts (cut off at rib cage) have to go. There was a beautiful tall brunette bartender working and all I could think about was the 1980's style shirt they made her wear. The inside looked great, great Tv's, the patio was always cool and Im sure it still is, and I think there is a ton of potential. Just please let the girls wear a pair of jeans and a cute top...I swear they will not be tipped more or less based on whether or not they are showing off their bellybuttons! read more

You might think it's a sports bar from the outside, but the grill here is a hidden gem. The Korean-style fried chicken wings, covered in spicy-sweet sauce, are delicious, and the kimchi pizza with bacon (on thin STL-style crust) is an awesome invention. If you're skeptical, just try it. The french fries are also unusually good, with an extra crunchy layer on the outside. The woman who was tending bar last time I was here makes the kimchi and the wing sauce herself, and she's also a super friendly bartender. (She started pouring me the wrong beer by mistake, then caught herself, poured me the right one, and gave me the half-full glass of the other one for free. Bonus points.) There's also a good selection of bottled beers, including a few Korean beers and some others you don't find at your average South City bar. I like the blues brothers statues (although isn't it named for a Dead song?) Seems like they are doing a Fast Eddies type thing with the counter food service & their drink menu looks exactly like fast Eddies. They also do the frozen drinks & seem to be pushing that angle. It's cash only which I don't understand. In a high volume place like fast eddies I get because it's just easier & more efficient, but there were maybe 10 people in the entire restaurant. And why not able to rub tabs? Especially if we are the ONLY table on the patio. Trust me, you'll make more in tips & it's less of a hassle for you & the customer. Well hopefully they get those kinks worked out, because I really do like this place & want it to succeed! read more
