Just a couple blocks from Budweiser's brewery, this is A "local" establishment thats been serving their clientele for years! No frills atmosphere, but very friendly service and good pours ... fun spot to hang out with friends early or late. They open at 9:30a, but don't count on a hot breakfast here; food is limited to nuts, chips and bag snacks plus a frozen pizza if you need some real substance. But undoubtedly one of the coldest beer served! Limited TV's, but there is 1 for catching some local games. Overall, solid 4.0 rated bar for attentive service, cold drinks and fair prices! And some great beads if you need any for Mardi Gras or party celebrations. Cat's Meow is the quintessential Soulard neighborhood bar. It is the type of place that feels like authentically "townie." But in a good way! The charm of it's somewhat *ahem* shabby chic (?) appearance is so much a part of the experience that it is hard to not fall in love with this watering hole. Have you ever craved Natty Light on draught? No? Well you can get it at Cat's Meow. That should really set the scene on the type of experience you're in for when you walk through their doors. The beers are cheap. The mixed drinks are strong. You're not heading to Cat's Meow to savor a craft cocktail. Most weekend you can find multiple bar-cycles parked out front. It is this party atmosphere that makes this bar so special though! My personal favorite feature of Cat's Meow, is the wall of beads for sale. Great dive bar. Small corner pub with great friendly clientele. The atmosphere here is that maybe you came to have a quick drink, but end up making new friends. This place is very neighborly and they even host some sort of annual neighbor potluck. So that's what I'm saying. Not sure I personally would order food here but I believe there are a couple of premade options/snacks if you are feeling adventurous. Only in the area for a weekend, but this place has great reasonable prices. I like that the local beer in town actually is Budweiser. We liked this place so much we came back a couple times. I really like the Cat's Meow for a bunch of reasons, but mainly I like it because it's a small dive bar in my neighborhood! There are times when my friends and I try to figure out a place to go for a few drinks and since we are always broke we need a cheap drink spot. Cat's Meow delivers. They have cheap pitchers and really cheap "shot specials" including an Apple Pie shot. The inside of the bar is very small, but this just means that everyone has to sit closer and mingle. The bartenders are friendly and they are quick. Remember to bring cash since this is a cash only bar, but they do have an ATM if needed. read more

Personal story incoming, but the TLDR is that I was BLOWN away with thr service here, particularly from Jennifer in the shop. My best friend and I drive past the shop frequently and I always promised I'd bring us there someday, but just never had the opportunity to. Today, her sister died in a freak car accident and she was devastated by the news. I stopped in to get a small gift with the store's name on it as a condolences gift and reminder that I would be taking her here one day. Jennifer was so kind in helping me pick out a personalized blanket gift with a card go redeem for a free monogramming when she brought it back! She even wrapped the gift and helped personalize it so it was perfect for gifting right away. I was blown away by the kindness Jennifer showed me and the excellent gift idea. This was the cheapest bar I've ever drank at. $5 for a Margarita made with Patron, $4 rail drinks, and $2 shots!!!! The vibe of the bar was very comfortable and the bartender talked to us when not busy. They have a huge patio to chill outside too. This is my new favorite bar. Have you gotten to the point in life where you just want to go out on a Friday night, or Tuesday afternoon, and get sloppy drunk while wearing sweatpants and a meatball stained shirt? If so, the Cats Meow is the place to be. The Cats Meow is a total dive bar but perhaps the best dive bar in all of St. Louis. I guess you could say it's a high dive. Not only is this place great but they apparently have "Inc" after their name. Incorporation is incredibly classy! Menu highlights: $2 Beers, an assortment of $1 shots, cheap pitchers and buckets, $5 frozen pizza. Nothing here is too rich for my blood. Speaking of my blood, the last time I came here I think it had an alcohol content nearing Larry Bird's career shooting percentage when I left the place. If Nosferatu had decided to strike me down on my way home, he would have needed to call a taxi to get back to Transylvania. A good time is easy to have at the Cat's Meow Inc. Awhile back, some friends and I brought Outburst in on a Friday night and played and drank for an hour. So in case you were wondering, yes, the Cats Meow is board game friendly. I'm hoping to bring Monopoly in one Saturday and play all day. The only downside is that smoking is still allowed which is why it gets 4 stars. In full disclosure, I have not been here in probably 2 years or so. However, I doubt much has changed and I have been here at least 5 times. This is a small dive bar that is either empty or full of fun and entertaining people. The outside area is pretty much like hanging out in someones back yard. It is super small, smokey, and cheap. Sounds pretty dull, right? Well that's what I thought too until I met some of the most interesting people ever here. One time I was here, random customers walked in all wearing super hero costumes. No it was not Halloween or anywhere near that. Another time, I played washers with a couple of stoned or drunk, or both biker dudes. So for some reason it seems the Cats Meow attracts some interesting characters. As you can tell from the fact that there are only 2 previous reviews, this is not one of Soulards "hot spots". That is what makes it kind of endearing to me. Plus, once you hit the ripe old age of 23, McGurks and Big Daddys seem like overpriced, popped collar, douche havens. But even that's ok on the right night. So the next time you are partying it up in Soulard, pop into the Cat's Meow for a drink or two, inhale the stale cigarette smoke, get a cheap drink, and strike up a conversation. It will probably be more memorable than any other part of your night, and a helluva lot cheaper. read more

I can't give five stars to this place, but I love Cat's Meow! As far as good dive bars, Cat's Meow might be the ultimate hole in the wall. When my wife and I were first looking into moving to Soulard, we spotted this joint while driving around the neighborhood. She noticed it right away and insisted we poke our heads in there. The wall behind the bar is covered with Mardi Gras beads for sale and statuettes of cats! Also, the beer is swill and cheap. We got a Budweiser draft and Natural Light draft for $2.25! This is the regular everyday price. I like to come in for a pint and listen to the elderly statesmen of Soulard converse. It's a great place for people watching, but I'm not entirely certain the regulars care for me, having said very little in my time there. However, things can get pretty interesting at Cat's Meow! One of the diveyest of dive bars I've ever been to. Bars on the front door, the smell of ash trays as you enter, and a female bartender that I bet could bet you at arm wrestling. Cash only, character of a bartender, smoking venue and you can buy Mardi Gras beads year round. This was the second stop on my friend's birthday bash after Chimi's and we had a great time. I went to this bar and a good song came on so my friend and I started stomping our boots to the beat, and the bar owner came over to us and yelled at us for doing it. We were doing nothing wrong or disturbing anyone in any way, but he felt the need to be aggressive towards us and threatened to throw us out. I thought it was really unprofessional and it seemed like we weren't allowed to have a good time. The Cat's Meow is a friendly neighborhood dive bar. I love it. It's dirt cheap. You can drink top shelf cocktails and premium beers all night and not spend over $25. They don't take cards, but there's an ATM in the back. The service is always fast and the bartenders are really nice. The restrooms are very clean and well maintained. They still allow smoking in the Cat's Meow, so it can get a little smokey inside, but it's not that bad. There is no kitchen, but there is frozen TJ's pizza which does trick when you need to fill your stomach in a hurry. The best part about the Cat's Meow, besides their unbelievably low prices, is the patio. The patio is pretty, well lit, and quiet. It's really low key and a great spot to hang out. Unfortunately the patio isn't always open, so you never know if you can sit outside. The Meow is a ton of fun and a great value. read more

What a place. Hidden freaking gem of St. Louis, maybe the world. The bar attendees are a friendly bunch. I was offered pizza pringles straight from a woman's can. You don't find that everywhere. The key ingredient here seems to be everclear, aside from their beer selections. Their famous shot "cat nip" is cherries soaked in everclear and chased by sprite. And the apple pie shots are homemade by the bartenders husband, featuring: everclear. Very tasty!!!! Very affordable!!! There is also a patio out back. The first time I came here there was an old timey car parked out back. I guess for kids to play on? At a bar? Confusing, but I'll admit I was sad when it was gone the next time I came. All in all. While I respect the 1st reviewers comments, I live a couple buildings away from the Cat's Meow and have spent a substantial amount of time there. One thing I like about the Cat's Meow is doesn't just attract one crowd...on any given night there could be a group of college kids, a couple of yuppies, a large handful of blue collars, and that mix of in-betweens. The $1 shots, cheap drink specials, and general dive atmosphere makes it a good starter location (or ending for us, so we can just stumble home afterwards). Only place in the city I can start and finish an evening for under $10. read more

I love that this place is dirt cheap and just doesn't give two cents about what it looks like. Total dive, complete with a loveably cheesy name and bars on the door. The "decor" has probably been there since day 1. Interesting collages of photos from bygone years are displayed for your viewing pleasure. Awkward tables are wedged against the walls. The air is smoky and will remain in your hair long after your departure. The clientele is always interesting, often older, and usually really drunk (duh - everything I've ordered here seems to be 3 dollars). It just isn't Soulard without divey holes like Cat's to adorn a few corners. I'm definitely not a regular, but I have popped in on random occasions and have always left feeling just a little weirder than when I came in, which seems essential and true to a dive bar experience. read more

I was recently at Cat's Meow for Kevin's birthday. The whole bar sang to him and took shots to celebrate. I've never met Kevin, but I truly enjoyed celebrating with strangers. The crowd was extremely diverse; from suits to boots. There were certainly a lot of regulars in attendance, but the bartender was nice as can be and happy to keep the drinks coming. This place has a Golden Tee machine, a jukebox, bathrooms, a website that seemingly hasn't been updated since 2008, an ATM (cash only), a TV, and a plethora cat statues that appeared to be for sale.
